This location is better than Georgetown, believe it or not. Skip the line, come here. I know, you know, we all know Georgetown cupcakes are decent. Sometimes the hype is worth it, what can I say. Just look at this picture. It's a cupcake. I gave it 4/5, because I want more.
The cupcakes here are delicious and moist. They have a large variety of cupcakes so you can choose the type of cupcake you want. I really like the caramel, coconut and strawberry cupcakes but you can't go wrong with any of them. There really isn't space to sit so you need to take the cupcakes to go. I liked that there wasn't a long wait and the service was good.
Overall, the Georgetown Cupcake in Bethesda is a high 3* experience and certainly one worth visiting for a delicious cupcake. The shop could easily be a 4* if not for the decline in quality which is too considerable to overlook. The decline is in their presentation, attention to detail, and overall quality. That said, these cupcakes are as good, if not better than your average bakery cupcake. Again, the 3* is because the cupcake quality once was arguably most competitive in the region. They do offer traditional flavors which are available on specific days of the week and seasonal flavors that are themed. If you want a specific traditional flavor it is best to arrive early before they sell out. The same goes for their seasonal flavors. Customer service is OK. Street parking does exist, however, considering this is a busy street the parking along the storefront is almost always occupied. There is garage parking in the area down the street from the bakery. I will continue to visit when in the area. Give them a try.
I love cupcakes , however, through the years , this place has disappointed me. The service is good, no complaints, there but the shop is so small. It's always cramped.. The door can easily smack someone waiting on the inside! Their menu has expanded, and it would be nice if some of the menu items had a short description, so we don't have to keep asking the staff what's in this or that. The taste, they changed the recipe and it doesn't taste the same. The cupcakes taste more artificial and more like it came from a Betty Crocker cake mix. What chapped my @ was when my cupcakes were placed in their iconic pink box, and they were tilted. Like seriously? So yeah. Unless someone else is treating. It's a no for me. I rather go to Sprinkles.
I picked up my cupcakes and checked them in the store. When I opened the box, they were in terrible condition--upside down, melted, and stuck together, looking like a complete mess inside the box. I immediately asked for a replacement, but the manager did not come out to assist me. I eventually had to leave because I was parked directly in front of the store. I paid $98 for two boxes of cupcakes that were completely ruined and unusable. I had planned to gift them to my office, but now my plans are ruined.
Believe me or not, but I think the Bethesda location has better tasting cupcakes than the location in Georgetown. Most of the time I order my cupcakes from this location. I'm a cupcake fanatic and have been eating their cupcakes for years. Time and time again, the Bethesda location proves to be superior. My recommendations are any cheesecake flavor, the red velvet, and my favorite months for specialized cupcakes are February and October (for their red velvet flavors and their pumpkin!!).
Georgetown Cupcakes are still my favorite even though the rest of the world seemed to have moved on to other bakeries. I'm still a die hard fan of their red velvet cupcake and continue to order boxes to gift to family and friends on special occasions.
Georgetown cupcake is a classic staple of the dmv area. The cake is fluffy as always. The flavor is distinct and shines through the cake well. The frosting is rich and thick. If you're not a frosting person, these cupcakes aren't for you. There is quite a bit of frosting, but it compliments the cake well. I like that for the whole month of February there are heart decorations! The service surprised me a little as when I opened my box there was a smoshed finger print in the frosting of two of my cupcakes. Probably when the server went to grab them they got the frosting. It was a bit upsetting as the most exciting part of the cupcake is the aesthetic appeal.
Picked up my cupcakes and opened the box and they just looked like a mess, not sure if they were dropped or tilted too much when going into the bag but definitely should have checked them before leaving the store. So sad and not suitable for gifting.
This is a very convenient location, located in high traffic downtown area, convenient parking garage right across the street. Service: efficient, line moves fast Cupcakes: delicious, it has been our favorite in comparison to all other cupcake shops, buttery bottom and creamy top. Price: not the cheapest, on the pricy side, but...you get what you pay for. Inside the shop: clean , tiny place, can get crowded with people who waiting for orders instead of order ahead just to pick up. Highly recommend by @WineDinenVacay
My first experience with Georgetown cupcakes was when my wifes best friend sent us a dozen to us where we lived in California to celebrate the birth of our first child 11 years ago. Fast forward to today and we live close by and were out with some friends and stepped in. The shop is little on the small side so I could see it getting crowded easily. The cupcake selection was extensive. So much so we spent a lot of time talking with the guy behind the counter regarding the difference between the 4 different types of chocolate cupcakes. We got a bunch and I sampled the Red Velvet, Key Lime and the Lavender Earl Grey. The Key Lime was my favorite flavor wise. Also the cupcakes were little on the small side compared to some of the other bakeries that we have been to in the area. Overall the experience was good and we would probably swing back in if we were in the area.
I used to be a regular at the Georgetown Cupcakes in Boston before the pandemic. I was sad to see the business had downsized but was ecstatic to visit again during a trip to DC. We decided to go to the Bethesda location instead of the Georgetown location thinking the parking situation would be more favorable. Of course, the street was blocked off for an event taking place the next day. I decided to get a half dozen cupcakes, not knowing the next time I'd be able to make it back to either location. I ordered two vanilla2, a vanilla birthday, a red velvet, a chocolate ganache, and a salted caramel. I couldn't quite remember which vanilla was my favorite but I went with my gut and got two of the cream cheese icing variety. I remembered enjoying the other flavors before and went out on a limb to try the salted caramel. The cupcakes were good. However, they did not quite rise to the level of deliciousness I remembered. And the chocolate ganache and the salted caramel were completely forgettable. In all fairness, it is hard to compete with a memory and something as simple as a change in elevation can affect baking results. I shared these cupcakes with first time Georgetown customers and they were very impressed. Overall, I'd give the vanillas and the red velvet 5 stars as they still rose above the quality of cupcake you can find at other bakeries and I'd be willing to try other flavors.
Georgetown Cupcakes are delicious and moist. The icing if rich with the perfect balance of sweetness not overpowering the cupcake. There's typically a line (short or long; depending on the location and time of day you go. The customer service is great and the line typically goes quick. All the cupcakes are highly enjoyable. ORDER: * Chocolate S'mores * Chocolate cupcake with a s'more flavor icing. I was told this is similar to the hot chocolate cupcake which was my original pick however they were all out. * Red Velvet * My favorite red velvet cupcake in the chocolate family was amazing. The icing tastes like a cross between buttercream and cream cheese icing. It's hard to say; nonetheless it was yummy. * Chocolate * OK, so clearly another chocolate cupcake; what difference can you possibly have and why choose a plain cupcake. Hear me out; a classic chocolate cupcake is pure bliss. This plain chocolate cupcake with buttercream icing was great. A chocolate lovers dream. SERVICE: The service was great. The gal at the register had a good handle on he flow considering their system was down requiring manually entry of debit/credit card transactions vs cash transactions. Despite the system being down, the staff was able to navigate through customers fairly well working under the pressure of the occasional questions from a customer regarding the system being down. Tip: always carry cash so you don't miss out on a sweet treat due to a system outage and not wanting to provide your card information manually. Extremely long wait to get cupcakes here! Once inside they are quite efficient at getting your order out. While the cakes were tasty I'm not sure they're worth the 40 minute wait to get them. If I had a Publix nearby I would more than likely go to Publix bakery. Ouch sorry guys :/ read more

If you go when they open, at 10 am, you can avoid all the lines. It's never too early for cupcakes! I highly recommend these sweet treats. If they have it, try the Oreo cheesecake. It's like no cupcake I've ever had. Forget regular frosting- it's all about about crumbly cheesecake on top of a cupcake! read more

This location seemed better than the Georgetown location. Hmm. It's a lot smaller than the Georgetown spot, but it wasn't as packed today (possibly because of the current horrible road conditions, but there were quite a few people out and about in downtown Bethesda). Service here is quick and friendly, and they had a lot more cupcakes "in stock" than at Georgetown. The Red Velvet cupcake is amazing, very moist and the cream cheese frosting is great. My girlfriend got the lava fudge cupcake and she raved about it. There were a lot of great varieties available, but I decided to go with red velvet because it's safe and sure. Compared to Cakes by Leslie, I'd say the red velvets here are a bit better. Overall I'm glad that Bethesda has two great choices around for getting one's fix of tiny, sweet cakes. read more
Three stars.. I know I might get all snowballs from GTC fans by giving only 3 stars.. but I must say.. I have NO idea why people praise about GTC... I thought I had to be fair.. so I got 4 cupcakes. Red-velvet (most people seem to choose and talked about), Honey banana, Straberry and Toffee. I knew I would get sugar-overloaded but what the heck.. If I am going to do-cupcake suicide, mine as well.. Just do it right. So I tried all and +1 from Hello Cupcake and +2 from Balducci's. I agree that GTC has more variety and cute-look than Hello CC but much smaller. The frosting was too sweet. unbalanced... and major problem was that the CC was DRY!! Especially, red velvet CC.. Balducci's Red velvet CC was much more moist and softer and better in flavor. Among all 4 kinds, toffee was better than others. Strawberry was surprisingly worse than I expected. Honey banana was good and maybe banana made the texture moist a bit more than other ones. Anyways, I still give 3 stars becasue thier pink box was cute and they had good variety (I like to see more interesting flavors). I will attack other CC stores soon but not today or tomorrow.. Need to give my liver some rest after breaking down all those sugary thick frosting I had.. ugh.. I won't mind trying different kind in the future if I'm in the neighborhood but I won't make the trip just to get CC from GTCC again. read more

These are the MOST DELICIOUS cupcakes that I've ever had. Anybody that knows me knows how much I love these cupcakes! I really don't have anything negative to say about this place other than that I wish the cupcakes weren't so expensive but honestly I don't even care at this point. The cupcakes are THAT good. In my opinion, this location is better than the one in Georgetown. It doesn't get as crowded as the other one and when it does the line moves pretty fast. There really isn't anywhere to sit except for one small table inside but I don't mind. Some of my favorite cupcake flavors are the milk chocolate birthday cake and strawberry. The icing on pretty much all their cupcakes is so soft and not overly sweet. I 1000% recommend this place! read more

I'm from cali, so I'm sorry but this is a comparison to Sprinkles. This place has been on tv, so I thought it must be pretty yummy. Upon first walking in, I saw that the cupcakes were smaller, but also cheaper than Sprinkles. The cupcakes were pretty, but not quite as nice looking as Sprinkles. Their boxes and spoons were quite plain and generic with none of their logos on them. The cupcakes were tasty, but unfortunately were lacking that wow factor. read more

Here's an email I sent to my sister that summarizes my newly found love/hate relationship with Georgetown Cupcake: Hey (Little Sister), Ate the cupcakes and I'm really sad to say these cupcakes are prolly some of the best cupcakes I've ever had.... I'm so sad I've succumbed to the actual real hype!!! T_T arghhhh... Whyyy did we have to go there?!?!?!?!? Arghhhhhhh now I know that they are semi-close and available at any time!!!! Arghhhhhhhhh This is all your fault dammit. Argh. FML. _______________ I really wanted to hate this place a lot... The super long lines just for cupcakes, the general cupcake fad/hype, the annoying reality TV show, the price per cupcake, I was not a Georgetown Cupcake fan and was determined to smite these cupcakes after finally trying them. That all went to nothingness after biting into a Key Lime cupcake. I chalked it up that that particular cupcake was a delicious anomaly and preceded to sink my determined, scowling face into a Salted Caramel cupcake. They were both very good and the flavors spot on; Just enough zest in both the frosting and cake, just enough salt to keep that caramel sweetness in check. The frosting here is not cloyingly sweet with a weird powdered sugar texture, the cake itself had a good bounce and crumb texture and the cupcakes themselves had a nice, cute presentation. The details even carry over to the paper cups themselves, emblazoned with the Georgetown Cupcake logo on the bottom. Though, the frosting here may be a little bit on the generous side in my own conceived cake to frosting ratio, the details in the taste of the cake and frosting won me over. Argh, I'm still a bit upset that I like these cupcakes... But, I'll be sneaking back to Bethesda to get some more. read more
Holy Crap!! Believe the Hype!! This place is the Real Deal! I've traveled across the US and this is my favorite cupcakes hands down! Thank God that I am lucky enough to travel to the DC area several times a year. I always make it a point to stop here on every trip. So far here is the list of accomplishments that I've eaten off the menu: Chocolate 2 Chocolate 3 Chocolate Ganache (my favorite of the bunch) Gluten Free Lava Fudge Chocolate Peppermint Ganche (my favorite Christmas cupcake) Salted Caramel Red Velvet Coconut Gingerbread All of them were amazing!! I was wandering around Bethesda Row when I came upon Georgetown Cupcake. Now, I don't watch the show but I have heard lots of hype about these cupcakes and anytime I drive through Georgetown the line for the store is up the street- even at 4pm on a weekday. So since there was absolutely no line I decided to try one. I chose a pumpkin spice cupcake and it was pretty good. Definitely 8 billion times better than the one I had at Cakelove, but I didn't think it made any best of the best charts. I did like that it was smaller than most other behometh cupcakes you see at other places and probably cheaper as well. I'm not really a huge frosting fan and I always think they put too much on, but this one was ok and it was garnished with a cute maple leaf. I was scared to try the red velvet cupcake because I found a great recipe online and honestly no red velvet cake that I have had anywhere else lives up to the ones that I can now make at home. (without being covered in a cup of frosting) Right after I ordered a whole bunch of people came into the store so I really got there at the right moment. The sales girl was really nice and cheerful. I don't know what they put in these cupcakes (crack perhaps?) but these are the best cupcakes I've ever had. I've tried many cupcakes places cuz I'm particular when it comes to the taste of cupcakes (frosting musn't taste too sweet or be too hard, cake should be moist) and these are by far my favorite cupcakes. Personal loves are toffee crunch, carrot, chocolate ganache, lemon berry, red velvet, pumpkin spice (seasonal), and the list goes on and on. Yes, a cupcake for $2.75 is kinda steep but they are so worth it. Anybody who tells you otherwise is lying. Oh and they give out a free cupcake of the day. If you "like" their fb page you'll know what that secret cupcake is for that day but it's usually given to the first 100 or until they run out. read more

Stopped by here to try the seasonal flavors. Cupcakes are tiiiiinnny for the price, $3.50 each. Short line on a Wednesday morning and they were out of the secret flavor by 1pm. I got the toffee cheesecake, chocolate peanut butter cheesecake, and banana marshmallow flavors. The toffee cheesecake was the best of the 3. Chocolate peanut butter had a really bitter ganache and the Oreo crust was super dry. The cupcake with sticky marshmallow center was weird, I would not get it again. So basically, come to Georgetown cupcake for the cheesecake? read more
Tasty cupcakes. Perhaps not as amazing as the line outside in the freezing cold would suggest, but definitely worth a stop if you're nearby. The chocolate peppermint is a bit intense for all but the most devoted of chocolate lovers, with a thick fudge-y icing mixed with peppermint. Milk is a must! read more

I recently took my friend who was out of town to Georgetown cupcake. We both had the gingerbread cupcake and I loved it! I am actually not a huge sweets fan, but their gingerbread cupcake is to die for. I also liked the extra touch of having a little gingerbread man on top. However, this is a seasonal item and only offered during December. My only issue is that there is only one table in this establishment which means either you need to eat standing up or do a take out order, as the table is always filled with teenagers. read more

O.M.G. I remember, back in 2000, as I was studying for finals, I had my first latte. It was an iced mocha latte, and I SWORE, that I would never be able to have a regular cup of coffee again, because it could never live up to the chocolaty, caffeinated-goodness that was that $3.50 concoction. It was totally worth much higher price. Skip forward to 2010, and the same feelings are invoked by the red-velvet cupcake from Georgetown cupcake in Bethesda. To call it a cupcake is almost insulting -- like calling a latte "just another cup of coffee." Yes, it is $2.75, and yes, that is an absurd amount to pay for a "cupcake"...but these are not just cupcakes, my friend. They are tiny works of art in confectionery form. On first bite the cake and frosting combine into the most amazing explosion of flavors. There is a reason why there is ALWAYS a line. But, there is one thing you MUST know. Once you have cupcakes from Georgetown Cupcakes, you WILL want to go back...again, and again. You have been warned. read more
