I was in Georgetown for the weekend with some friends and stumbled into the place after bouncing around. We sat down at the big red bar in front of the pianos and couldn't leave. Hunter and a special guest Bill were playing, and they were so much fun. Excellently priced drinks for Georgetown and quick service made this place an instant new favorite compared among the many bars, pubs, and taverns I have visited east of the Mississippi. It was so good that when more of our friends joined us in DC the next night, the only place we wanted to go was here. I knew from the moment i walked in and billy joel was playing. The music isnt too loud that you can't hear your friends, and they're songs you want to sing along to. Great atmosphere! Came here on a Thursday night with my dad and sister at ~9pm and it wasn't very busy, but for the amount of people there it felt surprisingly energetic. The pianist that night was entertaining and open to many requests! Great bar food that is simple and hits the spot. I can see how this place probably gets crowded on the weekends, but it's also a very relaxed place to meet friends. I brought two of my out of town friends who are both over 21 (one is 21 and one is 22) and they were violently shoved out of the bar after their real IDs (verified with the real ID star) were rejected by their system. Whoever was at the door (who told us he was the owner) grabbed and shoved them out of the door. When I kindly asked if they could come back in, the "owner" also put his hands on me and grabbed my collarbone area to shove me out of the door. Physical assault is not justified when someone is trying to ask you a question, and is illegal because nobody was posing a physical threat to you, just politely asking a question. Please fix your system so that it does not reject people who are fully of age. I am also beyond upset that I was manhandled for asking if my friends who were of age could come into the bar could try to have their IDs scanned again, and that my friend was also forcefully grabbed. Bouncers are not legally allowed to use force to remove anyone that does not pose a threat, and I will be speaking to the building manager about how we were physically assaulted. Also, the bar is more that half full of underage people. Absolutely ridiculous that you would reject people who are actually over 21 and physically assault them while letting in someone who told us it was her 19th birthday. read more

Such a fun place to be on a Friday night!! Music can definitely range from classic to more modern pieces depending on who you have in the crowd giving recommendations. There are college students to professionals in the audience. No cover charge, which is nice. There's a $10 minimum for having a tab. I docked a star off because the bartender was rude to my boyfriend when he asked for a glass of water. He had just placed a drink order with one bartender, and as she left to go make the drink, he asked for a glass of water from the other one (for me actually). My boyfriend said that the bartender guy literally scoffed at him and walked away. He got me my glass of water from the female bartender when she came back with his drink in tow. I like this place! It's a little more divey than you would expect, but I like the atmosphere. I've been here for the dueling pianos show, as well as just on Saturday and Friday nights. The crowd kind of varies based on what time you go (it gets louder and more enthusiastic later at night night). There's always 1-2 piano players there. They generally play hits and have a song list you can choose from to make requests. Sometimes the crowd sings along enthusiastically, and other times it's just me (I have no shame). I've been told that Spencer is the weekday piano player, while Hunter plays on weekends (they both play during dueling pianos). They seem to be the regular performers, but I've seen others playing there. Both Spencer and Hunter are really friendly and personable. They really try to please the crowd and get people amped up. Hunter also let my boyfriend sing a song once for my birthday and he played along with him, which was super nice! Drinks are pretty average priced for DC. They have a few specialty cocktails on the menu and then the standards (cider, beer, spirits, wine). Stay away from the champagne though. It was $7 for a split glass, and was the cheapest tasting "champage" I've ever had. read more

So... my first review got taken down which is extremely strange??? This was the worst experience I've ever had at a bar. I play piano so I jumped on it for a second until I was told to get off, without putting up a fight, I kindly did. After that, I was asked to leave the bar. I promised I was just sitting with my friends and minding my own business. They wouldn't budge and eventually got the manager to come kick me out. They escalated the issue at such an unreasonable rate and with the most demeaning tactics. I kept a cool head until the BARTENDER TURNED ON ALL THE LIGHTS, TOOK OUT A MIC, AND BEGAN A MOB MENTALITY CHAT "GET HER THE FUCK OUT". Everyone started chanting, cussing at me, calling me terrible names until I was SHAMED out of the bar. I pose no physical threat, I had not more than one drink, but I eventually leave in tears while the rest of the venue APPLAUDED MY EXIT. The rudest fucking people I've ever met, and the worst Georgetown--no ALL of DC has to offer. The Piano Bar was great! Really hip atmosphere, cool lighting, and good drinks. There were two pianists sitting behind the bar that was also part of a piano. People would take turns requesting songs and everyone was singing along, dancing, and having a good time. I would definitely go back! I was there around 10pm on a Saturday night. What a wonderful find! My girlfriend and I made a trip down to DC from Philly to see the cherry blossoms (yes, this review is super late...sorry!), and we figured Georgetown is a must-see, too. Unfortunately, while it's now hard for me to remember exactly what we did at Georgetown, this place is the one place I probably won't forget for a while. We found this place searching through Yelp after dinner. While we were a little hesitant about going at first (the path down to the basement was a bit uncomfortable for us since we're from out of town and all.), it was a great decision. The bar was surprisingly crowded, the pianist/musician was wonderful, and we had a great night of listening to classic hits (especially entertaining when it's drunk karaoke), occasionally dancing to the music, and people watching (it's got s very diverse crowd) as we enjoyed our beers by a table on the side. Actually REALLY liked this place. Cozy. Dark. Intimate. The food was kinda sad- for how great the atmosphere is, the food is kinda like a sketchy dive bar at best. I wish I could give negative stars. Do not ever go to this bar. I have never been treated as rudely as I was treated in this bar. The owner and bartender refused to serve me due to my 'high maintenance' appearance and threatened to get physical with me. The way that this bar is being run, it should not be legally allowed to stay open. A cramped, dark, sweaty bar with a limited drink selection, and awful music (and the chance of being verbally assaulted by the owner!)...why would you even consider going here? Do yourself a favor and consume water from the Potomac rather than drinking at this bar. read more

I threw a huge 30th birthday party for my finance and it was absolutely wonderful. They roped off a section in the bar and we had food/drinks for 60 people. The food was delicious - they did a great job of keeping it coming. We had the meatballs, chicken skewers, and mozzarella tomato skewers - TOO DIE FOR. They were super easy to coordinate with and even let us come in early to get organized. If you are going to throw a party - I would recommend this place. Meh. I've been to several piano bars and this was not a piano bar experience. While we are are ways excited to trying out new places, this was not worth it. First of all, a few of us arrived earlier than our reservation and decided to grab a drink at the bar. It wasn't busy at all, and it took over 6 minutes for the bar tender to even acknowledge us. The bar is in the center of a circle shipped bar, so it's not like he didn't see us. The set up of most piano bars have the pianos as the focal point. ..this was not the case. When you enter the bar there are a few rounded booths/tables to the left. There are some large pillars that block your view. There are also some small bar tables by the bar (that is also in the middle of the establishment and blocking the view). If we are being truly honest, I forgot we were even at a piano bar. Typically they are fun and you can tell you're listening to live music. It just seemed like there was music in the background of a loud bar by the time things got busy. Perhaps it's the acoustics, but still not worth the trip. We were there maybe 3 hours tops and decided to leave. We won't be back. read more

Maybe it is because I am not in my 20s or 30s, but my wife and I checked the place out on a Friday night in early April 2017 after enjoying a fabulous dinner at Ris. It didn't bother me that we were surrounded by a bunch of young people, but the bartender appeared to be more interested in socializing with the young ladies than he was in taking and filling orders. I've been waiting for a piano bar in DC for AGES, and though I personally enjoyed Modern (the previous establishment that occupied this space), having GPB is a great addition to the city's HH and nightlife options. You'll be hardpressed to find a reasonably priced bar in DC, much less in Georgetown. I ordered 2 drinks, 2 shots, and a shawarma for $44. That's next to a steal in GTown -No cover! -No dress code: I and my friends were completely dressed down while there was a party next to us in which the birthday girl opted to clothe herself in a sequined floor-length blue ball gown reminding us of Elsa from Frozen. Dress to your heart's desire! -Happy hour 'til 9pm everyday!!! -Daily drink specials -Free coat check (huge plus when you decide to come in a 20 degree night) -Option to order select items from Good Stuff Eatery, Quick Pita, or Capriotti's...delivered straight to you by your waitress/waiter -The night I went Hunter was the pianist and did a great job with all the requests and covers...including Wrecking Ball my Miley Cyrus -Requests are minimum of $1, but like most piano bars, the more money you throw for a request the more likely/the faster it will get played -Option to pay $10 and sing a long with the pianist...terrifying idea since that opens up the place to horrible singers, but hey...you go for the experience right? -Crowd of all ages and backgrounds: the later we got into the night the more the crowd turned into a drunken Georgetown University crowd -Though I went on a Saturday night it wasn't overly crowded. As a frequent Georgetown patron over the past six years, I very much have enjoyed the cozy and extremely fun bar scene posited by the area. Most recently over the past few weeks while passing by the spot where the bar Modern used to be located and after seeing the signs on the windows indicating it would be opening soon, I decided to stop in on opening night to see what the Georgetown Piano Bar was all about. I was very pleasantly surprised by some aspects and simply amazed by others. To start, this place, by all intents and purposes, is a full time piano bar. Much like the now closed Mr. Smiths, the atmosphere is very homey and welcoming. The young and entertaining piano player (I believe his name is Hunter) from Mr. Smiths was playing when I stopped in. While he's a pretty good singer, he's a great piano player, and an AMAZING entertainer. That man has the largest song list of any piano player I've ever seen (and I frequent piano bars when traveling in the Midwest and up/down the East Coast) and does an amazing job improvising and keeping everything fun. During my 2-3 hours there, it didn't seem like a single person was having a bad time and my GF and I sure-as-heck had a great time. The drinks were DELICIOUS and tasted better than most Gtown establishments, and they were on par (if not less) as far as prices go than most places in the area. I definitely recommend trying The Sinatra as I definitely had my fair share of those that night :) My favorite thing about this place was the fact that they had more than one piano, including one of those old school automatic player-pianos! I get all the great reviews but I'm biased because I am a fan of Bobby McKeys at National Harbor. It's not too entertaining as I expected and the bar is off to the side, away from the entertainment. If you like piano bars, this is an excellent choice. The drinks are delicious, the music is excellent, and the piano man entertains very very well. This place is where the staff of the old Mr. Smiths went, by and large, and they do a fantastic job! The style is generally just one piano player - not the dueling piano format. I actually like this format better, as it keeps the piano player more focused on the crowd. They've got one performer for the weekends, and another for the weekdays. Hunter and Spencer are both excellent piano players, and keep the crowd engaged and singing along. If Hunter doesn't have your song on his list, go ahead and ask anyway; I've seen him pull some pretty obscure songs off of the internet and sightread them well enough to still rock the place. If you're a singer, they'll let you sing with them on the microphone for a tip. The facility itself is brand new, clean, and gorgeous. As well, the staff is very friendly and really good at what they do. Do yourself a favor sometime and check this place out. read more

Came here on a Saturday night when we were in town. It was difficult to hear the piano if you were very far away, but we ended up getting a table fairly close and it was much better. The pianists were both very enjoyable and knew a lot of songs. It wasn't nearly as '"showy" as your typical dueling pianos which we really enjoyed.
