My husband thinks three stars is too harsh because we had so much fun at this piano bar, but I'll tell you why I knock it down one star: do not plan to eat dinner here. My sister-in-law had her birthday party here so a bunch of us came on a Friday around 8 PM. We should have gone for dinner somewhere else and came here later, but nonetheless, she had a table reserved so we ordered. The menu consists of a couple of appetizers, tacos, and probably six sandwiches (that only come with chips or pasta salad, no fries!). It took over an hour to get our food, which I would say was understandable if they were intense meals and we all ordered at the same time, but everyone ordered various things at different times based on when they arrived, etc. Not sure if the restaurant had to go hunt the chicken, butcher it, and bake the bread from scratch, but on no planet should it take over an hour to get a sandwich and some chips. There were two bars open, but only one bartender at each, and I think our server had a huge section, so it also took anywhere from 30-45 minutes to get a glass of wine. At one point, I just started ordering my next glass when she would bring my wine out. Our server was so nice, so I felt bad when I complained to her about the delay, and I know it probably wasn't her fault, it was probably a staffing issue, but the service was horrendous. On a positive note, I would totally come back here circa 10 PM on a Friday night because the music was good, the crowd was fun, and it was a low key evening. The bouncers use a faulty machine to check IDs, and caused a hassle for my friends that are well of age and trying to get in. It's as if these bouncers can't even check an ID themselves, and are beholden to a flawed machine. Even after our troubles getting in, the vibe was pretty mid. I came here on a Friday night around 7 pm and it was initially quiet which I thought was a perfect way to unwind after a long day but it definitely picked up as the night went on! What I really enjoyed was that this seemed to be a spot that brought people of all ages and backgrounds together. Everyone was singing and dancing together as the pianist kept up with the endless requests. The pianist was very good and friendly so I think he kept the atmosphere alive and energetic. I even sang (and boy was I terrible), but we all enjoyed our time here! The staff was very friendly and good about clearing tables so we had no choice but to keep ordering drinks. Georgetown Piano Bar. I experienced it on a Thursday night. I went primarily for the comedy, but I could barely hear it because the bar crowd was pretty loud. There are two bars. One is the main bar, shaped in a circle with very low stools. I have never seen anything like this, so it was unique. My sister tried it out and expressed that "they aren't as uncomfortable as they look." There was only one bartender, as I am assuming this may be a slow night for the bar. The only food option I can speak on is the personal cheese pizza. Nothing extraordinary, but this a meat free option, if that matters to you. The crowd was an uneven mix between college age (Georgetown Uni) and older professionals, old profs with the lead. Went for drinks on a Friday night. At 7pm they were empty. By 9:30 there was a wait for seating, so get there before 9 if you want a table. Entertainment on point; the pianist of the night knew how to work the crowd and played several well known songs like Only the Good Die Young, Bohemian Rhapsody, and of course, Wonderwall. On to the food. The Riesling was good, however the food was just ok. I don't know if it was just super loud but the server left the cheese on my tacos when I asked for no dairy. Either way, if you want a craft cocktail beverage that is very uppy Georgetown-ish... that can be accommodated. You'll look sophisticated in your own mind, but just know you're making away like a bandit because the drink you just bought is still cheaper than $13. IF you want a rail drink to make that really ugly guy in the corner playing with his in empty drink to seem more appealing since the date you came with only wants to get in your pants anyway -- they can make that kind of drink too. At least at that point you can choose between the annoying horny date or the ugly guy in the corner. Always explore your options! Don't say I didn't warn you though. The place is not super huge, but it is not super small either. It can hold 150 comfortably both standing room and sitting. The bartenders know their stuff. They can make a good cocktail. Might I also mention the food is solid too and they offer a full extensive menu. If you get their sandwich; go for their house made seasoned chips versus the salad. You'll thank me later. I work with a colleague who who is here from FL on a long term contractual gig. Occasionally, I give her a ride home from L'Enfant plaza by way of the Rock Creek Pkwy. As we passed the Kennedy Center,she asked me about Georgetown. At 6:30 pm , on a Friday evening, I was in no mood to sit in M St. traffic. But, I am a good ambassador for DC, so off we went. I'm glad we did. I found The Georgetown Piano Bar!! First I love piano bars like a fat kid loves cake. GPB is casual, comfortable, friendly, LOUD, happy and the BEST happy hour. Mike was our bartender. I didn't try the food, but the drinks were great! $1 off beers, $3 rail drinks. Two rounds for a party of 2 was only $12!! I had an awesome time here with my friend on Saturday night! Neither of us had ever tried out this little hidden gem that you have to walk down a case of stairs to get into from the street, but she had heard it was fun so we decided to give it a try. We immediately sat ourselves down at the bar in the middle of the room and looked over the mixed drink menu that included a list of unique options with names like Elton John and Carlos Santa Rita. The drinks were good, a little pricy though...coming in at $11 a drink (so while you don't have to pay a cover fee to get in, you will easily make up for it...) The music was great and the two piano players, who kept switching off throughout the night, knew their stuff and were extremely entertaining. We discovered pretty quickly that leaving the bar to see the piano and get in the middle of the dancing and singing is the best place to be, duh! One thing that made me a fan of this place is the fact that there are so many different age groups out and not just college kids, and everyone is dancing and belting out the lyrics to classics and more recent songs alike. I would be willing to give this piano bar 5 stars if my next visit is equally as great! read more

This is the 3rd piano bar I've been to in the last year, and it does not even compare to the other two. They have a MUSIC LIST, ie they CANNOT and WILL NOT play songs that are not on their 1 piece of paper. This alone puts this Piano Bar a full star behind the other two. (My girlfriend tipped $5 for them to play Beiber or Destiny's Child, and they said they don't know any songs by either of them. I tipped $5 for a Linkin Park or Red Hot Chilli Peppers song, and they said they don't know songs by either of them also. Pretty absurd if you ask me.) If your looking for a good piano bar, head to Austin TX and go to Pete's dueling piano bar. It puts this place absolutely to shame. Not to mention they are not even playing real piano's, but instead of keyboards set up behind a large fake bench. This is not a big deal to some people, but I could pretty clearly tell they were not playing real instruments. Last; the 'pianos' are not even setup on a stage. You cannot see the piano players, and there is not a great area to kind of crowd the stage and get that rowdy sing-along feeling that good piano bars are known for. read more

I guess I'm a little spoiled with the Piano bars that actually have a piano and not a keyboard and I prefer the dueling pianos. I went to the Georgetown Piano Bar for the first time last night. I was with a group of friends and we reserved two tables for a birthday party. We were able to reserve the tables at no cost which is a steal! There were a few things I enjoyed. It's always nice to have live music but the song selection wasn't the greatest. It was my first time at a piano bar so maybe I'm just not used to it! The service started out great but then turned into a nightmare towards the end of night. There was only 1 waitress for the entire place. Maybe someone called off, not sure, but it was difficult to order drinks over the course of the evening. Ultimately, I won't be coming back on my own but if someone were to invite me for a similar gathering I would probably show up. read more

The place was packed and honestly it was so loud in there that you couldn't hear the piano or the singer. I'm sure he was good but I wasn't able to tell as it was just very noisy. Our waitress was great as we ordered just drinks and they came out quickly for it being as busy as it was. This place is straight out of a movie! Had the best night here, little bar up in Georgetown and open till late. Amazing staff and service, food was delicious and affordable. The manager Bill (I hope I got the name right) went table to table checking in on everyone making sure orders were right and food tasted great. No complaints, played 2 of my favorite songs: Piano man (duhhh piano bar lol) and November Rain, like I said dream come true. I'm from Miami and we have nooo piano bars down here. 5 stars for food and service, if I'm not mistaken the cheese and meats plate was $10!! I've heard good things about piano bars and I had a little bit of a higher expectation for the first time experience at a piano bar. Georgetown Piano Bar is a divey type of bar experience. There is a bar in the round. It's cool that the bar is lower than normal height, it's a cute look if that's what they were going for. The two pianos being played for the night were on a far wall. It's not great acoustics but if you prefer piano covers and kaoroake sing alongs it probably won't bother you too much. There was no cover around the time I walked in which was 9ish. It got packed as the night continued and the energy was good. The two pianist that were playing had a laminated sheet with the songs they could play, most of the songs were 80/90's rock based with a little Micheal Jackson and not much jazz based/R&B type music. I'm not sure if they are the house musicians or not but if they are I wouldn't expect any modern songs here. The pianists select request based on how much you pay(tip) for a song. Given it's G'town some people pay (tip) quite a bit. Unfortunately unless you pay (tip) enough, you might (aka won't *Bryson Tiller voice) ever hear the song you requested. I think I spent about 2 hours here and the Micheal Jackson song requested simply never got played. That was pretty annoying to me but they do have a sign that says we play songs for whoever pays (tips) the most meaning bring your cash with big faces or risk wasting your money. I put in my request fairly early with a $5 which I thought was fair for a 2 minute snippet of Thriller while the place was mostly empty. I saw a $20 and a couple $10's but I figured $% for a MJ snippet was fair at least in a piano bar. God forbid a paying bar customer pay $5, for two minutes of a song, in addition to a bar tab hear a song they'd enjoy actually get played at a piano bar....you might be better off a a strip club but I digress. In addition the bathrooms were in renovation mode and while I didn't mind the dust or the lack of stalls around the toilets I would have appreciated a working sink and soap not covered in tarp. The bartender was cool and made a couple good drinks but overall my experience here was extremely disappointing. I wouldn't recommend this piano bar to anyone. read more

Perhaps I came too early in the evening, because I was not as impressed as many other Yelpers. The main thing I noticed was that the "piano" part of the piano bar seemed to be an after-thought. It was more like a bar that happens to have a piano off to the side. Other piano bars I've been to are set up in such a way that the piano(s) are the true focal point and are even on stage. The focal point of this bar was...well...the bar in the center! By the way, our bartender had a vibe as if he didn't like his job; he had a long night ahead of him I assume since it was still fairly early during our visit. While in town visiting a friend, we stumbled upon this little tucked away establishment! We walked in, got IDed, walked down the stairs and into a lounge-y area. The bar was in the middle, in like a pit, there were chairs surrounding it. There were some hightop and some lowtops around the edges. A piano player was in the back corner, playing everything from Johnny Cash to N*SYNC!!! It was fantastic. It was crowded but no one bothered anyone else. Everyone was just having a good time hanging out. If I remember correctly (LOL), the drinks were cheap. i stuck to bud light, which was about $3 a bottle. I didn't even have to ask the bartender he just kept bringing me new ones! It didn't hurt that he was cute, too! We stayed here almost all night, just cutting up, singing along, even did a little dancing. It is very dark inside, but I do know the bathrooms were clean and there was never a line! I visited the Georgetown Piano Bar on a Friday night. The music was nice and appropriate to the crowd and environment (which included a mix of older and college-aged adults). The pianists seemed friendly and happy to be there. The drinks and food were well made & better than expected. There were cute customized napkins. My only complaint is directed at the bartenders. It was not too late in the night (~9pm) that a poor attitude was warranted, yet most of them were not very nice. Even when a person at the bar accidentally spilled his drink, the attending bartender rudely told the person to stop cleaning up and then continued to show an angry and rude disposition to others. I would have expected an understanding and mature reaction from an adult; the bartender's reaction was on par with that of an entitled child. Altogether, I'd recommend a visit for the music, but sit someplace other than the bar. read more

It's more like a frat house with two drunk dudes playing the piano and singing such great classics as Eye of the Tiger or Great Balls of Fire. Honestly, I wouldn't mind the pianists because they're definitely entertaining to watch but the place is packed full of underage or college kids who can't hold their liquor. I came here for happy hour and dueling pianos on Friday night and had a blast! I arrived pretty early around 7:00 to really take advantage of those happy hour deals, and there were only a couple other people in the bar. The place didn't really start livening up until 8:30, which was to be expected. I thought that there would still be live piano music leading up the the dueling pianos, but I guess they don't do the live piano at 6 on Fridays like they do on other nights. My disappointment was soon forgotten at 9 though, when the dueling pianists came out and gave a great show!
