My husband and long time friend of the family wanted celebrate a colleague and take him to a restaurant of his choice and he requested Georgia Brown's. To our delight the 6-course Sunday Brunch was well worth the $70 per person! Every dish was fresh, beautifully prepared and plated, and tasted wonderful! We feasted and took home plenty of leftovers of Fried Catfish, Gumbo, Fried Green Tomatoes, Shrimp Basil soup that was sooooo full of flavor to die for!, Fried Catfish, Buttermilk Fried Chicken & Waffles, Shrimp & Grits, and a Chef prepared Dessert tray! Here's the 411- I will just call this the bougie people's soul food spot! When I think of soul food I think of food runneth over and big mouth watering portions with a name like "Georgia Peach" I just knew I was getting my grub on. I simply was not blown away by the quality of the food and the portions are very small. In fact it's not a place I think I will pay $20 in parking for two hours (K st garage) to return to for soul food. My friend said it was the best chicken he ever tasted! It was not the best but just good for me. My kid didn't like the chicken at all! So this place is too each it's own. The ambiance is vintage to me, dimmed lighting, and a diverse group of people. I cannot say enough about this restaurant. First of all there were 17 of us in town for 55 & over fun weekend. This restaurant was able to seat us all together as a walk-in! A miracle indeed! The staff were extremely nice and made our visit there quite memorable. I had the braised chicken, mashed potatoes and green beans. All was simply "to die for". Some others in our party had the fried chicken and others the pork chop. Everyone was pleased with the dish they ordered as well as the drinks. After dinner, our waitress brought the birthday people in our party a nice ice cream treat! I'm definitely going back the next time I'm in DC. Love love love!!! read more

What a gem in the heart of DC! The food and atmosphere are fantastic here. If you want southern classics flavors with a modern presentation and setting then give this place a try. My husband and I came to Georgia Brown's for the Sunday Jazz 6 course Brunch today. Be warned it's extremely loud so be prepared to yell if you want to have a conversation. We both started with the mixed salad and fried green tomatoes which were both delicious. The fried green tomatoes were so good I wanted to,but didn't, order some to bring home. There's an omelet station for one of the courses. That's the only course that is regular sized. The other courses are a smaller than a lunch sized portion, which is fine since there's 6 of them. The omelets were basic, nothing to write home about. Next, I got the jerk catfish w/collards and mac&cheese and he got the steak and eggs w/homefries. I was weary about the mac but it was really good. Well flavored&cheesy. The catfish was great but the collards were bland and tasteless. My husband said the steak and homefries were good but he didn't eat the egg. Since there's an omelet station, he thought it should come with something else. Our last course was gumbo and chicken &waffles. The gumbo was just ok. My husband really liked the chicken and waffles. He said the chicken was well seasoned and the waffles were fluffy. They bring out a plate with bite sized portions of several desserts (red velvet cake, chocolate tarte, cheesecake topped w/strawberry, banana pudding and bread pudding) but they only gave us 1 bite of red velvet and banana pudding which was fine since neither of really liked either. We each had 1 cocktail. They're overpriced at $15 but they were strong. Note that DC's sales is 10% and they add 20% gratuity to all checks so we ended up paying $211 and change. My biggest complaint was how hot it was in the restaurant. It was 96° outside so you think they would have the AC on. There were a few ceiling fans but I couldn't feel air moving. Came here for dinner after visiting a museum. Bar crowd was pretty busy The dining area appeared pretty upscale although the ladies room could probably use an upgrade Menu looked pretty interesting. It definitely has a southern flair to it but there are things on the menu that you could get if you weren't into southern. The cocktail list looked interesting especially the cocktail of the day called " bitches brew" but since I have been on a diet- I had to decline cocktails and things like shrimp and grits and catfish and mac and cheese lol My friend got the Cajun catfish with Mac and cheese and collared greens and she LOVED her dish. I got the seafood platter which was a special- broiled shrimp, two MINI crab cakes and a small mahi mahi serving - I got the cauliflower and asked for asparagus instead of the spicy rice it comes with. It was a cleaner dish which was what I wanted Only had water lol so no cocktails to review. I was treated to brunch at Georgia Brown's for my birthday and had a wonderful experience! The decor of the restaurant gives off an old fashioned, southern vibe. However, the tables are pretty close together, making walking through the restaurant a little difficult. As for the food, there is an abundance of it! You can choose from pretty much anything your heart desires. If you leave the restaurant hungry, there is something wrong. An entree from the menu is included in the brunch, so if you don't want to eat the incredible amount of food on the buffet, you have a different option. If you do choose to only eat from the buffet, you can take an entree home. I ordered the meatloaf and enjoyed it the following day. The icing on the cake was the jazz ensemble that began playing around noon. The musicians and singer were very friendly, talented and interactive with the audience. First time in DC, found this spot on Yelp. It's black owned and the food looked good based on the reviews so I decided to try it. When we walked in the hostess was on the phone, we were not greeted at all. She was on the phone for about 2 minutes, then just looked at once she was off. My wife and I don't complain when spending money for food, unless it is disappointing. We also ordered two drinks, the henny sidecar and my wife ordered the Mr. Heartly. Both drinks were delicious and full of liquor! Our waitress was very attentive and knowledgeable of the menu, she gave us descriptions of everything and even helped my wife make a decision that was better for her. My wife wanted the Charleston Perlau but with it being such a huge portion, the waitress suggested she get the half plates, half of the Perlau and half buttermilk fried chicken. I got the Pork Chop. The red eye gravy on that pork chop was heavenly! I wish I could make gravy like that. But the winner of the dishes was the Perlau to me. It felt like a jambalaya and the duck added an extra finesse. I'm pretty sure the waitress herself is a chef as well because she had on a chefs apron. Maybe the chefs rotate working the kitchen and the tables? I think it's a great idea if that's the case. Georgia Brown's is a delightful establishment with great food and great service. I attended a private Saturday brunch and from the moment I walked in the door I knew it was going to be good. The staff greeted all the guests with the hospitality of Southern charm. The decor and layout was classy with a hint of trendy. The delicious brunch buffet offered so many options my stomach, eyes and mind couldn't not decide what to try first. The salmon was delectable, the French toast melted in my mouth, the breakfast potatoes sent my tastebuds into orbit and the fried chicken tasted like home!! I first visited a Georgia Brown's restaurant in Atlanta and this DC version was equally as fantastic. I look forward to traveling back to DC and enjoying dinner snd music one evening. Food was not good. Everything missed the mark. My husband and I ordered the fried chicken dinner. My sides were collard greens and mac and cheese and his sides were fries and collard greens. We ordered a salad and cornbread as appetizers. When they brought the cornbread out we laughed. The cornbread were like breadsticks from olive garden but a bit sweeter. The mixed salad was fine. The fried chicken were chicken breasts, so the chicken was dry and lacked season. The mac and cheese and collard greens had potential but they both were too sweet. The mac and cheese was not cheesy and the fries were too salty which made it difficult to eat. The drinks were good and that was it. Service was ok and the ambiance was ok. My hubby took me here for my birthday. We had reservations and was sitted aft showing our vax status. Upon entering it wasn't too crowded. Our waiter came to our table almost immediately. We ordered the sampler for our appetizers, and although it came with a few different food choices it was very pricey and the food was just ok. I ordered the fried snapper, greens and dirty rice meal. Hubby had the shrimp and grits. He also had the Mr Hartley drink & I had the peach martini. I didn't care for my drink, so I sent it back and ordered a peach ice tea. The ice tea was very good. My friend brought me here because most people consider me something like a foodie. Unfortunately, she considers expensive = "good" food. As someone from the south, I really wasn't impressed by this soul food place. I enjoyed the cornbread with butter since I was starving! And the calamari was the best I've tried. However, the ceviche was too tomatoey. I had the "Devil Shrimp" for my entree. The crabcakes were too doughey and not completely cooked through and the macaroni was so "rich," I could barely eat it. I barely recall what the spinach tasted like as it wasn't even seasoned so it was such a waste of an accompanying vegetable that could have lightened up the heaviness of everything else on the plate. Since my crabcakes were undercooked, I asked if they could just comp the meal $10 or so, but they made me choose another meat, when I didn't really want anything else. They cooked me another whole hen that I ended up throwing away and I hate wasting food. Finding parking was a quite an atrocious experience. Between gratuity being added (and it was only me and my friend), parking, and the meal, eating here cost me about $100 and I didn't even have a drink. But the ambiance is nice. read more

He assured us that it was ok and so we ordered one item. The bill came and they charged us for the full 6 course brunch. We asked why we were charged the full fee and he said (several times) that they must charge us the full fee because that is the only option during brunch. BRUNCH Review (Nov 29 2021) I had brunch at Georgia Browns on Sunday 11/28. I was excited to try the 5 course + omelette station menu plus indulge in some mimosas! It was also the Sunday Jazz Brunch (live music!) I had a lovely time at Georgia Brown's. We ordered the biscuits and seasonal salad to start. I loved how the biscuits came with 3 different spreads. It was nice to have some greens in my brunch diet For our second course we had the fried greens tomatoes and shrimp cocktails. Really good. I think the all stars were the chicken and waffle and sausage andouille & duck hash. The duck hash was spectacular, really tender meat. And the waffle had a great berry compote. Shrimp and grits were fantastic. Benedict was classic. I have a major sweet tooth so the dessert platter was a dream come true and totally satisfied by sweet tooth. Mimosas were flowing well and our server always made sure we had a full glass. Flavors included: orange, grapefruit, passion fruit and peach The music was lovely. However if you sit by the music it is a tad loud.
