In my case, the truck I bought didn't have enough air in the tires and the air pressure warning signal went on before I could even make it home. And I didn't appreciate the ugly Gerald sticker on the back of my new truck as well as permanent marker on the drivers side door. The finance department did their job and up sold me on the extended warranties, but they were really nice when I came back to my senses and canceled them. We came in to have them look into the noise that our 2015 Honda CRV was making and to have oil changed. When I made the appointment, I explained to them that the car makes loud, almost grinding noise every morning when we start the engine. My husband waited for the car to be done. He paid $685 for the work done. Next morning the car made the same loud noise. When I looked closer at the receipt, I realized that they never did anything about the problem. They changed, replaced, drained bunch of fluids and they never addressed the problem that we had with the car. And they charged us $685 for that! I complained about it and the general manager did call back, but we were out of town. When we got back I called the general manager numerous times and then I emailed him and he never responded. If I could give negative stars I would. Worst experience I've ever had at any Honda dealer, and I've visited many. I saw a used Honda Odyssey on their website that I was interested in, so made an initial inquiry online. The interent sales contact at Gerald invited me to come see it. Mind you the dealership is an hour's drive from my home. Anyway, halfway there I get a text indicating the car just sold. She says they have more used Odysseys (plural). I pull over, look on their website and see just one, and not close to the specs on the one I was wanting. So, I turned around and went home. A few days later I see the car I wanted is still listed for sale on the website, so I follow up again. I get a response indicating that the car never actually sold, so can I come see it now? I respond that I am willing to come, but only if they can guarantee me the car will be there. The internet sales person says, "Yes, I have the key in my hand and have told the manager here that you are coming!". So, I head out again for the hour drive over there. I arrive and get greeted a snotty sales person that tells me that I now have to deal with her, and not the person I had been dealing with. However, she says she knows about the car I am interested in and will take me to it. She takes me to the wrong car, and I tell her repeatedly that it is not the car I came to see. She says, "Well, it must be, because it's the only one here." In fact, she insists I am wrong until she gets in the car, starts it, and notices that it has over 100K miles on it; whereas the car I was interested in had under 20K. She finally admits its not the same car and we go back inside the dealership. Once inside, she tells me to sit at a table, goes away for a bit and then comes back and tells me that the car I came to see is now being detailed "someplace else." She then tells me they have a used Chrysler Pacifica minivan in stock, and maybe I would want to see that - all the while looking over my shoulder at MY Pacifica parked outside that I already indicated would be my trade in. After I say "no," she laughs and says, "Yeah, I guess you wouldn't want another one of those, would you?" She then asks if they can assess my Pacifica, and I say, "Not until I actually see the car I came her to see." She responds indignantly, saying, "Well, it's standard procedure." She then tells me she's going to check on my car again. I watched her walk over to the business counter (that was right by the table I was sitting at), and chat with some of her co-workers in a nonchalant fashion, never once looking over at me or giving any indication she was actually doing anything to find the car. Having had enough of this treatment I got up, walked right past her and out to my car. I then drove away. She didn't notice until at least 10 minutes later, when she left a message on my phone indicating "there was a mix up amongst the managers." This review is a few days late. Last Friday evening , driving on the Dan Ryan and the check engine light starts flashing like crazy. There was no Honda dealer in site , so we drove slowly and came upon the Honda sign at US 30z we pulled into the service stall at 5:57pm. Just 3 minutes before closing . Craig was the service advisor . There want a tech around . He took the time to take a look at the van and found it was down two whole quarts of oil to our surprise . Thanks fully the check engine light did go off. We took the van into the Honda dealer where we bought it from and they could not find an error code. I took my Honda Pilot their to have a rear AC hose replaced. The guy calls me with an estimate of over $4000. Stating I needed a new AC until in the rear. I told him not to do the work. I took it to a local auto repair shop who found a leak in the rear hose (As Firestone stated) He replaced the hose for $329. The ac has run perfectly since. Let me me try to give you a short version of our recent experience here: We were a customer of PLANET HONDA for 15+ years! We leased a 2019 CRV 2 years ago and I put on a lot of miles because I do DOOR DASH. But, around the end of March, I received a text message that said...there was a faulty fuel pump on my CRV and it needed to be replaced ASAP. I called the service department and ask them when I could come in to get this part replaced. They were clueless to the recall! They said they had no notification of this recall. They said they'd get back to me. Lie number one. Never heard from them in a week. I finally had to call them back. So they finally get the part in. And I make the appointment. Well oh, we get the vehicle back, and now my engine light is on! So we were quite busy that weekend. I finally got ahold of service department again, and explain to them about the engine light. They had the audacity to tell me that they were going to charge me $150 to do a diagnostic and find out what the problem was! I said absolutely no way in hell am I paying you a $150 when you just had my vehicle. So, we decided to come in and talk about trading in my vehicle. Vasko had have been sending me emails asking me to trade in my vehicle, because they were short on used vehicles. He said that Jaime would be our salesperson. She has only been there since December, but we were willing to work with her. We told her what we were looking for, and where we needed to be add a monthly payment. After running back and forth several times to Vasco, she comes back with a price 35% higher for a lease than it would be to purchase! Outrageous! They expected us to pay $674/mo for a LEASE??!! So back and forth..she kept running over to Vasko. Finally. I came right out and told her.. STOP DIKKING ME AROUND AND EITHER GET ME THE PAYMENTS I NEED OR FORGET IT! We left... The sales part was easy although Razan was only concerned about getting her 10 stars so she gets her commission. When she texted me a week later to make sure I would give her 10 stars on her survey I mentioned I was having problems with the finance guy and asked her to have the manager email me and that never happened. The finance guy Felix is absolutely horrible!!! He registered my plates to the wrong county and charged the wrong county sales tax. I emailed him every single day for a week with no response. I'm a reasonable person and I understand people make mistakes, hell I make mistakes but I fix them. I literally had to call and ask for the general managerand throw a fit before the problem got resolved. I will never buy from them again. An honest person would have fixed the problem right away and replied back to my email that he was working on fixing the problem and would get back to me when it was resolved. The sales girl would have made sure a manager took care of the problem if she was honest too. This place is only concerned about $$$. I understand they are a business but I'll go to someone with better customer service next time. I prefer to give my money to a business that has morals. Going back to 2021, we have experienced terrible 'up-selling' at Gerald Honda in Matteson, IL since they took over Planet Honda. Little resolution and one small refund for work deemed unnecessary. Recently I brought my 2015 Honda Odyssey in for a LDW code and rough ride. I was given an estimate of repair for $15,557.74. No proof was ever made available as to reason for the work. After considerable amount of time and review with Service Manager, it was concluded up-selling of 40%-80% for parts, double charges for work (2 oil changes) and $2,500 of unnecessary charges. Bill was reduced to $8,400. Parts came in a week prior but work not scheduled. When I questioned this Service Advisor lied saying the parts weren't in. I told him I had come in the night before and was told the parts had come in the week prior. So much follow-up on my part. I wonder who ends up getting this money. Mechanics, dealership, service advisors? Ended up with $2,200 car rental charges. Anyone choosing to use this dealership, should carefully review and question charges before authorizing work. Service advisors at this dealership do not advise and are not held accountable. This was a worrisome experience, leaving me feeling vulnerable with the scare-tactics of you could break down, be stranded, etc. No one in management seems to be reviewing charges. Service advisor, just made excuses. 5 family members currently have Hondas and we have been loyal customers for years. Sorry to say goodbye to Honda in general but enough is enough. WARNING/BWARE-Bad Engine/Motor Do Not Buy From Gerald Honda of Matteson Dealership DO NOT TRUST THIS DEALERSHIP SOLD A CAR A BAD MOTOR TO YOUNG ADULT! Most recent events: Approx 3 wks ago at around 4am, on one of the coldest days in Chgo in negative degree territory, car stopped & will not start on the HIGHWAY with my son stranded! I get a frantic call from him saying the car has done something weird & will not start. He doesn't know the exact location but he needs a tow truck to come and get him and the car! This was terrifying for me, his mother! We figured out where he was, and thank GOD for a charged iPhone w/location capability! Once he was safe & I had time to digest what happened, I had a mechanic take a look at the car to see exactly what went wrong. The car would not start because the battery also died. After getting the battery working again, the mechanic heard the knocking noise & said the MOTOR is BAD & would need to be replaced. He then checked the oil & said it was enough oil in the oil port/dipstick & the only reason this could be happening was because of the BAD MOTOR. The car is not drivable. During the week of Feb 6, 2023, my son called to speak with a manager to try and get this issue resolved. Instead of doing the right thing and what should have happened when he first returned to Gerald Honda of Matteson approximately a month after the purchase, due to the BAD MOTOR, they transferred him to the finance dept & told him he would have to purchase an extended warranty to get the matter resolved. They did not help him so he asked if I would get involved. I called the dealership & spoke to the receptionist informing her of what happened and requesting to speak with a manager. She referred me to Mike Hayes, Service Lane Manager. I was told he wasn't available but she would leave a message for him to call me back. I did not receive a callback. I called again, the same day, no call back. Only the run-around. The following day, I decided to try my luck & go up to Gerald Honda of Matteson where I was greeted by Tom Hayes, Sales Consultant, to speak w/a mgr face to face. Tom wanted to know my reason for wanting to speak with the mgr. I told him what was going on and he led the new Gen Mgr, Todd King. I spoke w/Todd King & he seemed concerned but told me he would have to speak w/Mike Hayes, Service Lane Mgr to see what they would be doing about the situation & how it would be resolved and I was to expect a call on Mon, Feb 13. No call from Todd King or Mike Hayes. I called several times during this week and again given the run-around. No call from either Todd King, General Mgr, or Mike Hayes, Service Lane Mgr. On Wed Feb 15, I finally spoke to Mike Hayes. He said he was unaware of what was going on so I told him. Mike said he would need to have the car towed to Gerald Honda of Matteson to take a look at it to see what the problem is before he could do anything to resolve it. Mike sent a tow truck to pick up the vehicle and bring it to the dealership. No one called me for 2 days with an update so I began calling again. On Fri, Feb 17 I received a call from Mike Hayes and he said the MOTOR IS BAD. The motor is knocking and shaking. He said he needed to talk to Todd King, General Manager to see how they would be able to resolve the issue with either a rebuilt or new motor and he would call me back on Monday, February 20, 2023. I did not receive a call. I called Mike Hayes at approximately 10am at which point I left a message. I called again and was transferred to Mike Hayes from the sales department but was disconnected. I called again, and left a message with the receptionist, and asked for a callback. It is now Tuesday, February 21 and I have yet to receive a call to get an update on how they are going to fix the car which should have never been sold with a BAD MOTOR! Some back story: Approx 1 yr ago, during the pandemic my youngest son went to Gerald Honda of Matteson located at 5000 West Auto Court to purchase a used car. Ammar Amro, Finance Manager knowingly sold him a car (not sold "As Is") and placed him in a car note. My son found himself going back to Gerald Honda of Matteson about a month after purchasing the car because the car started shaking and making loud sounds. When he went back to the dealership to get the service he clearly deserved due to the recent purchase of the vehicle and its current state he was told there was a problem with the motor and that an adjustment to the motor had been made. Whatever adjustment the service dept claimed had been made didn't work because approx 1-2 wks the car did same thing again. Pt 2 coming up read more

IF I COULD GIVE THEM A ZERO I WOULD! On January 4, 2022, I took my 2015 Honda Pilot to be serviced at Gerald Honda in Matteson following multiple issues with my battery. Prior to my appointment I had to have my car jumped a total of 4-5 times within a four-week period. After waiting for about a couple of hours, I was told that everything checked out and they could not find anything wrong with my car. Following my appointment, I was able to start and drive my car without any problems for about a week. On January 13, 2022, I was driving down 183rd Street after coming from Orland Park when out of the blue, my battery indicator light came on followed by several other indicator lights. In addition, my car was making a loud noise and I had difficulty accelerating. When all of this occurred, I immediately called Gerald Honda. After speaking to one of the service reps regarding the host of issues I was experiencing, they recommended that it was best to bring my car in right away. I followed their advice, and by the grace of God was able to make it to the dealership without further incidence. When I arrived, which was about 1:50 p.m., I explained to the service rep what was going on. He indicated that it was probably my alternator but would have one of the mechanics look at it. However, I knew I would not be able to wait as I had to pick my son up from school, so I asked for a loaner. The service rep indicated that he did not know if they had any available but would have to check. I found his response perplexing because I am at a dealership where they sell cars. In my mind, I was thinking, "HOW DO YOU NOT HAVE A LOANER VEHICLE FOR A CUSTOMER WHO NOT ONLY PURCHASED THEIR CAR FROM THAT PARTICAR LOCATION BUT ALSO HAS THEIR CAR SERVICED THERE REGULARLY". I digress. While he went to "check", I proceeded to sit in their waiting area. At this point 20 minutes had passed by, and I still had not received a response about a loaner. I then went and spoke to another service rep by the name of "Craig". He tells me there are no loaners. I plead with him and tell him that I must pick up my son from school. He asks me for my phone number and address. After receiving this information that he asked for, he tells me that there is a loaner shortage and there was nothing he could do. While he is telling me this nonsense, the initial service rep comes to me and asks me for my drivers license and insurance card. After making copies he says nothing but proceeds to take necessary steps physically to get me a loaner. Once he finalized everything, again he did use any verbal communication, but motions me to loaner, which was a newer model of their Honda Odyssey. He did not give me any instructions how to operate the vehicle, so I had to figure it out on my own. While I was headed to get my son from school, I get a call from Craig indicating that the VTEC Oil Pressure Switch Front Spool Valve Assembly burst open causing oil to leak onto and fried my battery and alternator. He further indicated that the cost for repair was around $2000. I told him that I needed to process what he was telling me and would need to call him back. He tells me that I needed to call him back with my decision by 3:30 p.m. that day. At that point I called to make future arrangements to have my car looked at by my mom's mechanic to get a second opinion. While driving back to the dealership from picking up my son, I get another call from Craig and I inform him that I did not want them to proceed with fixing my car. He tells me that my car is on the charger and that I will be able to drive it home at best. Even though I did not accept their recommendation, I had to pay them $165 for falsely diagnosing the problem. After leaving the dealership, again by the grace of God I was able to get home and had my car towed to my mom's mechanic. The mechanic informed me that GERALD HONDA sold me a bill of goods and that it was only my alternator that needed replacing. After my horrible experience with GERALD HONDA, I will never give them my business again! read more

He said anything electrical, anything involved with the engine and transmission would be covered. But when it was time to do the deal they tack on an extra 4 grand for an market value adjustment. They told me ALL the car dealers are charging this fee because of low inventory. How is this my fault? I drove 5 hours for this car and they refused to take the fee off. I felt under duress so I signed the contract anyway. The next day brother bought a car from a different dealer. They tried the same scam (market value adjustment). He called them out on it, and they took the fee off immediately. So Gerald 's facility told me Fake News. Even though I like the car, I will forever look at it as the car Gerald ripped me off on. So when you go here beware of the market value adjustment scam. We bought our minivan brand new from Gerald. Within a few months there is an issue with the speakers and several other recalls. We called ahead to make an appointment for specific issues/recalls and were told that the vehicle would be fixed. The issue we were most annoyed with was said to be fixed and the recalls as well. However they did not have the parts for one of the recalls. So we left with one recall to be fixed. They called us to tell us the camera was available so we made another appointment and rearranged schedules to bring the van back in...only to be told that they did not have the camera they promised us. We made a third appointment to get the recall fixed and they promised the camera was actual in. We took our vehicle home and the annoying popping sound from the speakers was not actually fixed. We made a fourth appointment to get it fixed. They took all day and called at the end of the day to say they couldn't hear the noise. We left. The popping noise happened immediately. Appointment number six we brought it in and Manny came with me for a drive. We did not even make it out of the parking lot and he knew immediately that the noise was still there and the speakers were not fixed. Appointment number 7. Today. We brought the vehicle in for our appointment at 8:40 a.m. They told us it would likely take to the end of the day. By 5:00 p.m. I finally called back only to find that they would not be able to get to the vehicle until the end of the day TOMORROW. Another day of rearranging and trying to figure out how to be without a vehicle. I honestly would not recommend this business to anyone. I was not even offered a courtesy vehicle.
