After our happy hour we went to the hotel restaurant, Geraldine's. I know what you're thinking; hotel restaurants are the worst! Not Geraldine's. This gorgeous pet-friendly restaurant is known amongst the locals for its old Hollywood atmosphere, killer cocktails, and out of this world desserts. Although the patio space is small, it gives off such a relaxing vibe. Then if we weren't already obsessed with our time there, the waiter grabbed homemade treats from his own personal treat stash to bring to our puppies. We seriously couldn't have been happier. After stuffing our faces to the point of no return, we decided we needed to walk off some of the calories. So we took a walk around Lady Bird Lake with the pups and explored the new-ish Austin Boardwalk. In all honesty, I am a true creature of habit, and typically walk the 3-mile loop that goes from the Austin High pedestrian bridge to the Pfluger Bridge. However with the close proximity to the boardwalk, we couldn't resist. read more

The food was pretty good (presentation was the best though) my favorite thing about this place was the entertainment. And not from the band. They were entertaining but a little too loud for us to be able to hold conversation and we asked to be moved outside which was perfect. The entertainment I'm referring to was from our Waiter. He was by far the best part of the night. Seriously, he needs to be doing stand up comedy at Moody theatre, not serving brownies on cast iron skillets. Geraldine's is a bar and restaurant - located on the 4th floor of the Hotel Van Zandt. I visited three times during my stay at the hotel: Late Lunch: The first day, I sat at the bar and had an order of chips with sides of guacamole and con queso sauce. Rather average guacamole and con queso in my opinion. Drinks: One evening I came in and had a local IPA (which was pretty good). While sitting at the bar - I was reading through the cocktail menu - and was intrigued by a cocktail that contained both whiskey and beef Pho broth - being a fan of both - I knew I had to order it. It was a strange, yet successful intersection of whiskey and Pho - it made for a savory, hearty, tangy, lightly spicy cocktail. I very much enjoyed it! Great place to spend a night out having fun. They serve dinner, drinks, atmosphere, and ambiance here. It is located in the Van Zandt hotel. Take the elevator up, and be amazed. It's a more "trendy meets classy" atmosphere, so dress up. No cover to get in, but the prices for drinks aren't on the cheap end. I would say on average $12-$15 a drink. Some unique concessions to try out thats for sure. There was some live entertainment (singing) on a Saturday night. Step on outside to th rooftop bar area, and enjoy the view of Austin. Overall it was good! We enjoyed the burrata, sweet potatoes, biscuits, and pork chop. They were serving Friendsgiving cocktails in addition to your normal cocktail menu. I ordered the dr. Drink ramoray and my husband the Condore. We ended up switching drinks and that worked out. We sat out on the patio and they had heaters which were plenty warm for the brisk night out. You would probably need to make a reservation unless you are okay sitting at the bar or on the patio. Is it wrong that I just left and I already want to go back. Ugh, so good! There is no parking except for hotel valet so just do it. Cost $14 because we ate at restaurant, normally $28. Hotel is gorgeous and so is the restaurant. Food is AMAZING. Me and my friend spent $220 on these shared dishes plus drinks and a glass of red Pinot noir you do not see in pics. Best money I've spent on dining since Arlo Grey (not great food). This was so damn good!!! We got fish and chicken and Brussels and pasta. We also got the coconut panna cotta because I'm not a chocolate lover and it was divine. I heard the Van Zandt has an amazing rooftop bar which I haven't experienced yet but seems like whatever you do here is a whole vibe. I highly recommend this place! Special occasion, date night, catch up with friends, just because. Do it! If you are looking to bar hop on Rainey street, this would also be a good place to bar hop afterwards. I read online valet has a three hour limit if you are not staying at hotel. Geraldine's is wonderful! Absolutely recommend for brunch and it is a great place to bring out of town guests. Parking was surprisingly easy on a Saturday around 11am and the staff is very attentive. The ambiance was somewhat peaceful as it was not terribly busy on a Sunday morning at 11:00 a.m. We walked to the Hotel Van Zandt since it was close enough however you can valet and get your ticket validated at the restaurant it will cost $14 for 3 hours to park through valet. The food and service was exceptional. I ordered a cocktail that was not on the menu and was not sure the bartender would even know how to make it. To my surprise the bartender knew how to make the cocktail and even asked me what liquor I would like inside of it. I would definitely have breakfast/brunch at Geraldine's again! Inside the Kimpton Van Zandt hotel this restaurant is on the 4th floor. Food is family-style plating. Highly recommend the chicken and brussel sprouts are a must. Cocktails and beer available in draft and bottle. Service was a little slow but the food is worth it! You can take your cocktails outside and lounge on outdoor seating near pool. There is a bar outside too but closes early even on Friday night. Live music inside on stage in restaurant area. The location of this restaurant hotel in killer around the corner from Rainey St. so even if Geraldine's closes down you can walk around the corner for more entertainment. read more

On my last day of my 4 day stay at Kimpton Van Zandt, my friend and I decided to get brunch at Geraldine's. With a 3.5* rating on Yelp, I wasn't sure how good it was going to be for a hotel restaurant, but I had high hopes. Unfortunately, my hopes were dashed with more than a few service faux pas. Our waitress took many tables orders in a row, leaving us to wait for our drinks. Beer was flat, next one was poured incorrectly, etc. etc. In fairness, the staff figured out we were getting screwed and the manager came over to apologize for everything. They took off the beers and comped a dessert to make up for it, which was a nice gesture. Unfortunately, we had planned to have a half hour free after lunch to run an errand, and the long lunch kept us from doing so. As for the food, it was pretty good. The short rib quesadilla would have been a bit better if it was hotter, but I enjoyed it with the egg on top and the avocado and salsa on the side. Was it small for $13? Sure, but these are hotel restaurant pricing. I added a sweet potato fritter for $2 on the side and this was bomb! This was the hidden gem on the menu lol. We had a sticky bun dessert, and the bun itself wasn't great but the combination with the ice cream and nuts was pretty tasty. Considering the service and prices, I'd say it was a 3* visit. If we didn't have any timing issues, I probably would have given them a 4*. Hopefully they can learn from this and put forward a better look in the future. If you're staying at the hotel though, Geraldine's is not your worst option. But considering the area, it might not be your best. read more

Geraldine's was nothing like I reviewed or researched. 1. You have to pay $22 to hold the table and you get none of it off your meal. 2. On my $22 reservation I added my dtr's 30th birthday. At the end of the meal, I had to remind them. Apparently the hostess forgot to tell the waiter. They offered cinnamon rolls after the fact of course. 3. They bring the honey biscuits out with no plates. I had to go to the kitchen door to get plates. You can't find anyone anywhere with a half filled restaurant. 4. My dtr's medium rare steak arrived medium well. The excuse they gave were flanked ends are cook longer. So just the middle is what you order. Disclaimer needed if you ask what type of steak I want upon ordering. 5. Live music was over at 1 pm. I paid $22 for a front stage table for a 12:30 pm reservation. Why take my $22 for 30 mins of a 1 man clarinet band? Jazz is advertised. 6. When they finally brought cinnamon rolls out, they placed the sack on the floor. We had tell her not to place our food on the floor, while the manager lurks in the corner. Not once did he come over to address any of our issues. 7. Our waitress was not attentive and would skip over our table many times to run to others. To sum it up...they truly need to treat all tables and people the same. We were 4 African American ladies, one a doctor, one a lawyer, one educator, and the other a real estate agent with natural wearing hair and African garb. I had drinks here with my friend at 5pm a few days ago after walking around downtown and Lady Bird Lake for a few hours. We snuck up the elevator to quietly sit at the bar before sunset and enjoy some girl talk before our dinner reservations elsewhere. The bar only had another 2-3 people sitting on the other side so it was not very busy, there was no one else dining inside, and no live music. So we were quickly greeted and drinks made for us. The bartender was nice and made a suggestion of a mocktail for me since I don't drink alcohol ever. I enjoyed the drink she made but it was a bit too sweet (my preference). The ambiance inside is gorgeous - reminds me of a Gatsby movie or something... dark and gold-toned with velvet furniture and drop lighting. The bathrooms are even gorgeous. The bar overlooks the rooftop pool deck so at night, on warmer days, I'm sure it's gorgeous. A pleasant experience for an hour - but I'll have to update when I come back for food service during a busier time to be realistic. read more

When it comes to ambiance, this place is it. I came for a bridal shower brunch one Saturday morning, and there was a live band playing soft jazz, and great views of the Hotel Van Zandt pool/Zilker park from where we were sitting. The food was a little on the higher side but for the location and quality I actually felt it was fairly reasonable. I remember having their French toast and LIVING for it; it was very well done. This place also had very nice, clean bathrooms, and I remember the staff were very friendly. I was a little confused finding the place initially because there's no immediate parking there (unless you're staying at the hotel), so otherwise you have to park down the street which gets wild on Rainey street. But after you enter the hotel you just have to go straight right and take that elevator, I think there was a subtle sign for it. Once you go upstairs, the place is right there. Overall I kinda want to come back for dinner sometime, I bet with the live band and views it would be a very fun and romantic spot! read more

I came here a while ago for brunch and came here on a Sunday night for dinner. There's validated valet or you can pay upwards of $15 for the parking lot a block away. The entrance to the hotel is gorgeous, you take the elevator up to the 4th floor. We tried pretty much everything on the menu. There's a kids menu too. The highlights were the octopus, carrots, wagyu beef and caccio pepe. Although everything we ordered was delicious including the brussels, biscuits, fried chicken, scallops, fried green tomatoes. Drinks were on the lighter side. Desserts were good. The rice pudding wasn't what I thought it would be, different. The tart was yummy and I wish we ordered the "twinkie" too. Food came out quick, restaurant appeared to be full. The service was excellent. Price was indicative of the ingredients, location and service. It was a very nice dinner. There was a DJ playing 90's hip hop alternating with mellow music. We enjoyed some of the throwbacks. Came here on Thursday night to check out the Birds, Bubbles & Blues special they had going on. Overall it was an ok experience but let's start with the good. If your looking for a lively show while dining & with a view Geraldine's is your spot. We opted for the fried chicken special which had a good breading and mild spice but was a bit on the pricey side as far as specials are concerned. Now let's talk about the service which was underwhelming to say the least. After we were seated it took about 15-20 minutes before any one came to greet us or take our drink orders. After we finally were greeted our server came back rarely to check in on us and also forgot to put in one of fried chicken orders. I came with my family to celebrate my birthday. The atmosphere was great! Loved the live music. The food was okay. I ordered my steak medium rare and it was closer to medium well. The reasoning given was accepted but not acceptable. The attention given to the table was none. We watched other tables get drinks and food before us. We got an order of biscuits and wasn't given any plates to share the food. We had to physically go to the kitchen and ask for plates. We also made reservations. In the reservation they asked if we were celebrating anything. We indicated we were celebrating a birthday. When we received the check we were told they forgot to inform their staff of the birthday reservation and then brought out cinnamon rolls as we were preparing to leave. The woman who brought out the cinnamon rolls then proceeded to but the food on the floor and we had to tell her to place the food on the tables. At no point did the manger, who was present, come to apologize for the oversight. Unacceptable. We didn't feel welcomed at all. Another table came to wish me happy birthday because they could clearly see that we were being ignored. I think this place would be better if they made a conscious effort to treat all tables well. I will not be returning but I think everyone should be aware of this before considering Geraldine's. read more

We dined here for dinner, but I reserved writing my review until I had brunch as I heard brunch was better. For dinner, we had the infamous buttermilk biscuits that are worth every carb. I love beets, but their roasted beets were bland, the hamachi crudo was refreshing, the grilled broccoli was just ok, but the grilled gulf shrimp was really good. We were a tad annoyed because there were 3 of us sharing plates and we asked the waitress if we could pay for an additional shrimp as the dish was supposed to come with 5. She told us they could not do that and then the dish only came with 4 shrimp instead of 5. Brunch started out great as we dined on the biscuits once again and toasted with their Persephone drinks that were very refreshing and on point. Our waitress was Andrea and initially, she seemed friendly and professional and then she seemed to have dropped the facade. We placed an order for the smoked salmon benedict and were disappointed as the brioche was too thick and did not go well with the salmon. Their incredible biscuits or an English muffin would have been a better choice. Nonetheless, we skipped the bread and devoured the perfectly poached egg and salmon. We wanted to order another round of drinks, however, Andrea never resurfaced. When we were on our last bite, she dropped our check at the table and then I gave it back to her and told her we were not finished. The smile dropped and she snatched the check from me. I then requested to speak to a manager and I explained the situation and told her that any waiter should know that you NEVER drop off the check without asking if the patrons would like anything else. The manager apologized, comped us a round of drinks and then Andrea approached us with a smile plastered on her face and asked if we wanted anything else. I was going to order dessert, but Andrea ruined the experience so we just left. Underwhelmed. Geraldine's is located inside the Hotel Van Zandt. The hotel is gorgeous, and a good stay. I would recommend the hotel for sure. Geraldine's does not meet the setting though. A friend wanted to meet here for brunch, and as I've never had the food I agreed. Being that it's essentially on Rainey Street, you're a bit forced to valet to be able to park. We came for brunch, and were able to get a reservation. There was no wait, and the staff was very polite. The food and drinks were just what you would expect at an average hotel. Not a 4 star hotel. The coffee was very much hotel coffee. Bitter, you could taste the grounds...jut not good. The food was exceptionally basic. Nothing tasty. Nothing to write home about. We went to another restaurant to eat after, as we didn't finish our meals here. Just not worth it. Plus, it was $12 to valet, and we were only there an hour. I'd definitely recommend the hotel to friends staying in Austin, but would not recommend the restaurant for dining. If they ever get a new chef and menu, I'd give it another go. They should also consider teaming with a local coffee roaster, as good coffee in Austin is very easy to acquire. The staff and atmosphere are great though. read more

When r questioned the flavor profile of several dishes - asking if modifications were made for my gluten allergy - the waitress decided that my partner and I had covid! Surprised by poor ratings as our meal was INCREDIBLE. We have our usual go to spots in Austin, and decided to try this and I am so glad we did as we now have a new restaurant to add to our rotation. Every dish we had was amazing. Some of the most unique flavors and pairings, and the quality was top notch and you could taste how fresh the quality was. The pop overs were the only items we weren't impressed with, but the broccolini over cashew butter was amazing. The bartender was nice enough to make me my own drink off the menu as I wanted something a bit sweeter and fruitier, which he was happy to do and they were delicious. For such a big party we had to order a lot of plates and it was pretty expensive per plate. We ended up ordering lighter and eating somewhere else after. We got two plates of brussel sprouts, one salmon dish, one shrimp dish, a cheese board for 2, a caccio pasta dish and 7 drinks for the table. The total was about $350 and we each got like a small sample bite of each... Although the food was very tasty, it's better not to come with a huge group. It's better as a nice date night.
