Was super excited about our reservation for brunch with Jazz. While there was a jazz band playing, you could not see them whatsoever from our seats and it took away from the expected experience. Yes, you could hear the music, but no different than hearing a stereo in any other restaurant. I asked the individual that seated us if we could find a table with a view of the band and he indicated you have to go onto a website and pre-pay for seats, like an airplane, if you want to select yours. I would say he (bald, white guy with beard) was not very friendly or warm. So not a great start. Next we ordered lattes, one decaf and one regular. When our server brought them out, she indicated she was unsure as to which one was decaf vs. regular and set them down like it didn't matter. Although she seemed genuinely confused, it demonstrated that she was probably tasked with too many tables. This example frames the general service experience. It was lacking. In fact, she did not check back in to see how our food was and a different person ended up processing our check. She also didn't validate our parking and told us we had to get that from the host. Which seems a bit strange. Don't most servers ask you if you parked in the lot and validate? Regarding the food, it was just so-so. The menu read perfectly and got your taste buds going, yet the execution was lacking. We had smoked salmon Benedict, which was supposed to have a chipotle hollandaise, nonetheless it was rather bland. We also had a short rib quesadilla- To our surprise also extremely bland and dry. The hotel has an interesting eclectic music theme and a cool lobby. However, the parking to go to brunch for less than 90 minutes was $30 and after validation $15. The parking attendants were pretty cool and told us about free margaritas in the hotel lobby every day from 5 to 6. I guess it's some kind of daily social hour. If you're looking for a good brunch, I would go somewhere else. Likewise, If you're looking to see a jazz band, I was also go somewhere else. Just not memorable enough to return. I went here with a larger part of 8 to celebrate a birthday. The restaurant is really beautiful, lots of seating, and you can see guests hanging around the pool from the window and the skyline. I came here during brunch. We had lots of mimosas, biscuits, potatoes, and French toast! The mimosas were great, nothing to complain about. The French toast was so fluffy and light. The slices are a lot thicker than you'd expect, so the 2 pieces of toast is very filling. The breakfast potatoes were also good. They were very crispy and nicely seasoned. They also brought out a special breakfast bun (?) topped with ice cream as a birthday surprise for my friend! Our hosts was very nice, but the person who sat us down did not pay very attention to us (didn't give us menus). Absolutely loved Geraldine's! We came here on a Sunday for brunch. We had reservations for a table but when we saw the bar was empty decided to seat there instead. Immediately we were greeted by our server. She poured water for us and gave us time to look over the menu. While we did that we also took in the decor of the place. Nice outside area, spacious inside seating, and fun lamps. We also noticed they had a small stage and were told the band would start playing at 11am. So we took our time with our food and drinks so we could enjoy the live band as well. During all this time there our server never rushed us, kept refilling our waters and making sure our drinks were full too, and had everything we needed. Not only her but other bar staff members came over to help if she was busy. Great service! Going back to the menu, so many things sounded so good, so we decided to share... 1. Biscuits - 2 per plate with a honey butter on the side. I recommend you eat these as soon as they come out, warm, so the butter melts on it. Delicious! 2. Quiche - very flavorful and loved that it came with a nice portion of salad on the side. 3. The Brunch Burger - this is a MUST! Bacon, hash brown, burger patty, cheese, egg, lettuce, pickles, tomato and their special sauce. Press all of it down and try your best to get all ingredients in one bite. This is the perfect brunch dish! and order it with the fries, they were so good!! Drinks were on point too. Stopped by for drinks on a Saturday night. It was busy, as they have live music. The hostess refused to seat us at first because we weren't dining, just drinking. She quoted us a 20 minute wait, we waited maybe 5. Not sure why she wouldn't seat us at first because as soon as we sat, the waitress told us the kitchen was closing and if we wanted food. Weird? Anywho, the drinks and live music were AWESOME. We really enjoyed the ambiance and tunes. My gin and tonic was delicious and so was the Water You Drinking. First review of the year!! Took our kiddo today to Geraldine's for his birthday brunch, and he absolutely loved it. I was bit hesitant about it, as they had 3.5stars and it's for my baby birthday brunch, but after looking at the brunch menu and ambience of the place, took a chance and made reservations a week before and glad I picked this place. Food, service, ambience everything is good, we ordered biscuits, spicy chicken sandwich, brioche French toast, lemonade, coffee and beer. Biscuits were good, crispy on the outside, light and moist in the inside, with the maple butter, it was delicious. Spicy chicken sandwich: this is absolutely delicious and a must try, it was just perfect:) Brioche: it was good, no flaws. Wow. This place is a must eat! The ambiance is amazing as well. We ordered the cucumber salad, smoked carrots, crispy potatoes and mushroom Ragu. 3 of us shared all 4 and it was more than enough. All were delicious. I highly recommend. The carrots are truly Smokey, so if you don't like that taste, move on. It was so good we forgot to take pictures of everything! The Service was mediocre. The server either forgot to put in my order or she didn't go and grab and it went bad or went to another table, but they had to make a new order. My food came in more than 40 minutes later than my party and they all had to wait. No apologies from server as well. The food is excellent (get the cacio pepe) the drinks were great, get the twinkies at dessert- it's lemon cake heaven. Our waiter, Gary, was really the star of the show though - he was amazing. However, I'm really here to rate the indoor climate on a sweater scale for all my chronically cold homies (1 being least sweaters needed, 5 being the most ie very cold). Chicken on the Upscale It has been a long time coming to experience Geraldine's after hearing about great things. It all started earlier in the day when we entered the Kimpton Hotel Van Zandt and noticed a poster board advertising Fried Chicken Thursday's. This got our immediate attention and made reservations online. We returned to the Van Zandt in the evening navigating around a construction crew outside to find out the elevator to the restaurant is activated at 5:30 PM sharp. Waited shortly in the lobby until able to go up to enter a darkly lit awe-inspiring place. We were the first guests and quickly seated to a nice table. I saw a stage, kitchen and bar. The intimate romantic atmosphere was perfect to celebrate our anniversary. The service was top notch. As for our meal we ordered the Fried Chicken (4 pieces), Buttermilk Biscuits, Sweet Potatoes, and Brussels Sprouts. My drink was a Southern Sipper which was a bourbon drink with maple-pecan syrup with a cinnamon twist, and enjoyed it very much. Our special evening was treated like a five course where each item was brought to us separately starting with the biscuits and ended with the chicken. All the items were superb and plentiful. The fried chicken was the highlight. It was mildly spicy and not greasy. I was able able to eat it with a knife and fork without it being a mess. The flavor was perfect and truly was among to best in Austin. I want to thank Geraldine's for the surprise Chocolate Tart desert for our anniversary. We appreciate it! read more

The food here is a bit on the pricier end for what you get (portions are a bit small) but the dishes are well cooked and nicely presented. The customer service is excellent. Our server was attentive, knowledgeable and overall one of the best I've had in Austin. For appetizers, we tried the Brussels, Pig Ears and Biscuits. The Brussels were absolute fire, pig ears were good and the biscuits were as well. For my entree, I had the 8 oz steak with oyster mushrooms and wow! I've been to steakhouses in Austin that didn't cook my steak as perfectly as they did. Needless to say - I ordered the best thing on the menu. A friend ordered the salmon and it was a bit dry. Came during COVID and felt it was safe, clean, protocols in place. Enter the hotel and turn right toward the elevator. You will need to take the elevator which opens to the restaurant. Food and drinks were delicious - plus live music and amazing service. We couldn't have asked for a better night. The grilled broccolini was delicious - which I've never said before. Fantastic texture with a light cream base. Gulf snapper was fresh and melts in your mouth. Endive salad was huge and crispy. Drinks were very good. Couldn't have been happier. We got one of the only reservations available of 10am at Geraldine's this past Sunday and couldn't wait to try the food. I got in a little late and my gal had already gotten an excellent seat at the bar. I love bar seating as the service is almost always better than a random table, and Geraldine's was no exception. I could see a few tables still waiting on service when our server had always taken our order and brought drinks already. after ordering it gave us time to soak in the room. It was a beautiful dining room, with rows of lit arches adorning the ceiling. our bites came out and we dug in. The breakfast burger was tasty, the French fries were perfect, the biscuits were really good, the quiche, well, turns out I don't care for quiche. It's likely some of the tastiest, freshest, most well prepared food I've ever had. The service was perfect- friendly, professional, and personable. I observed all the waitstaff interactions I could at other tables, and it appeared to be consistently excellent. In fact, the down-to-earth friendliness carries over to the Van Zandt hotel staff as well. It isn't the least expensive meals, but worth every penny. However we have not been to Geraldine's for brunch. We decided to valet park because parking is not great since it close to Rainey street. There is an elevator to the right of the entry of the hotel that brings you directly to the restaurant and level 4. The restaurant is warm and welcoming. Lots of wood, leather and rich fabrics. It faces the pool. There was live music. There was a full bar. The menu is short but a decent selection. We order fresh squeezed juice. We tried the standard breakfast, smashed burger, dish equipment to the migas, avocado toast and short rib quesadilla. Everything was delicious. They brought a cinnamon bun with ice cream and a candle for my sister. People were friendly and food came out fast. Attire for brunch is casual. There are people who were well dressed and people with nice shorts and tshirts. I highly recommend this place for brunch. read more

After our happy hour we went to the hotel restaurant, Geraldine's. I know what you're thinking; hotel restaurants are the worst! Not Geraldine's. This gorgeous pet-friendly restaurant is known amongst the locals for its old Hollywood atmosphere, killer cocktails, and out of this world desserts. Although the patio space is small, it gives off such a relaxing vibe. Then if we weren't already obsessed with our time there, the waiter grabbed homemade treats from his own personal treat stash to bring to our puppies. We seriously couldn't have been happier. After stuffing our faces to the point of no return, we decided we needed to walk off some of the calories. So we took a walk around Lady Bird Lake with the pups and explored the new-ish Austin Boardwalk. In all honesty, I am a true creature of habit, and typically walk the 3-mile loop that goes from the Austin High pedestrian bridge to the Pfluger Bridge. They were entertaining but a little too loud for us to be able to hold conversation and we asked to be moved outside which was perfect. The entertainment I'm referring to was from our Waiter. He was by far the best part of the night. Seriously, he needs to be doing stand up comedy at Moody theatre, not serving brownies on cast iron skillets. (However, it was godlike) I'm not mad that this one thing surpassed my daily caloric intake goal by about 800. What did Tim Nichols say???? Live Like you're dying!!! I visited three times during my stay at the hotel: Late Lunch: The first day, I sat at the bar and had an order of chips with sides of guacamole and con queso sauce. Rather average guacamole and con queso in my opinion. Drinks: One evening I came in and had a local IPA (which was pretty good). While sitting at the bar - I was reading through the cocktail menu - and was intrigued by a cocktail that contained both whiskey and beef Pho broth - being a fan of both - I knew I had to order it. It was a strange, yet successful intersection of whiskey and Pho - it made for a savory, hearty, tangy, lightly spicy cocktail. I very much enjoyed it! Great place to spend a night out having fun. They serve dinner, drinks, atmosphere, and ambiance here. It is located in the Van Zandt hotel. Take the elevator up, and be amazed. It's a more "trendy meets classy" atmosphere, so dress up. No cover to get in, but the prices for drinks aren't on the cheap end. I would say on average $12-$15 a drink. Some unique concessions to try out thats for sure. There was some live entertainment (singing) on a Saturday night. Step on outside to th rooftop bar area, and enjoy the view of Austin.
