Kayo is amazing! She's been cutting my hair for the last 10+ years. I follow her whenever she changes salons. She just cut my hair tonight and I love it! It was super long down my back and with this summer heat I just wanted it ALL OFF. Such a pretty cut, I love it so much. It's a little longer in the front, and shorter in the back because she knew I didn't want it touching my neck. I feel so free! The salon was taking precautions and following social distancing. They make you wait outside, won't let you in without a mask, take your temperature with an infrared thermometer when you come in, and immediately make you hand sanitize. All the brushes and combs were sanitized MULTIPLE TIMES during JUST my cut, and there were few people in the salon so social distancing was followed. I visited K's salon based on its high Yelp rating after not having a haircut for over a year. My head was starting to feel like a bird's nest. This was also my first time having a haircut this expensive, I'm much more used to frequenting Chinatown establishments. Joe, who cut my hair, was so lovely. This is a place, I observe, where you form a relationship wtih your stylist and chat to them about your life and treat them like family. Unfortunately I'm the sit quietly while you cut my hair type of gal... so it was a little awkward, but not anyone's fault. The cut was great, and the atmosphere as a whole was relaxing and calm. Since I was getting a cut for a special occasion Joe took the time to curl my hair after the blowout, and it looked amazing. Cute, friendly place with talented stylists. Friendly owner, tea/coffee and laughs abound! You feel good being here because the staff get along and are like a family. In particular, for those of you with very thick and straight Asian hair, I would highly recommend Mariko Miyagi. When i moved back to NYC after college, i had many disastrous results with hairstylists across the city, which ended when i found Mariko! I have been seeing her for 8 years or so now, have followed her loyally, and she truly understands my hair. She is super talented, super sweet, and can offer helpful suggestions on your hair cut depending on your morning routine, preferences, etc. And i have no doubt she's talented with other kinds of hair, whether it's coloring, perms, curly hair, etc. So good atmosphere, friendly folks, and talented stylists. Joe Vitale was my go-to guy when I was living in NY for a year or so. Originally found K's on yelp and so glad I did. Unfailingly lovely to talk to and sweet, he did cuts and some colors for me and always knew how to keep it glamorous but natural. One day I needed a 1920's style do for a network audition, and he researched thoroughly the night before and did the most beautiful intricate hair-up for me which got so many comments. I tried to get my hair done before vacation, but the person I normally go to was on vacation. I ran out of time and decided to get my hair done shortly after my arrival to New York. I was worried that I was going to have to pay an enormous amount in Manhattan. My poor neglected strands were damaged from too much bleach I had about a year ago by a stylist who lied and said I needed to use bleach to dye my dark brown hair medium brown. My broken uneven ends were turning light brown from the bleach. I received great friendly service at K's. Joey was great! I love my new color and cut! It's been about a month now and my hair has not faded. The entire staff worked together to make you feel at comfortable. The manucurist even gave me suggestions on shows to see. This was my 2nd time in K's salon. I have kaye this time round. She gives me a fabulous cut, one of the best cut so far in NYC. She is very patient and professional. The experience is greatly enhanced with the wonderful decor of the salon and great service provided. You felt like a cherished guest, with tea/coffee being served when you are having your cut. There is no rush and hassle to get by but full attention given by the hair-stylist. Love the chandeliers! Although it is slightly on the pricey side, the experience and the great cut is well worth it. read more

What a wonderful salon! Everyone there is so friendly. I just had my first cut there with Kaye, who's pretty fantastic. She knew exactly what I wanted, did it fast, and gave me a quick (and beautiful, might I add) blow dry without any extra charges. I was in and out in half an hour, and I have A LOT of hair. The staff in general was also great. Everyone was teasing each other and working together, just a generally fun atmosphere. The salon was beautiful too, apparently Kaye designed it herself! She has been cutting my hair ever since I moved to NYC in 2005 and she's amazing at what she does and there's no one better than her! I have been there for the first time in august 2014. My hair dresser was Tina. I called on a friday morning and got an appointment for the afternoon. The person over the phone was very friendly so it put me at ease. It takes me a while to find them since they changed the name of the salon. It is now called salon 84. They welcomed me warmly and offered me a drink. I waited 5 minutes for my hairdresser to be ready but the nice lady at the welcome desk chatted with me. I am not a hair dresser's dream since i know specifically what I want. So while I can't talk about Tina's talent in terms of creativity, i can say that she can give you exactly what you want which is something I really appreciate. The salon is not a luxury retreat where people whisper and service is impeccably flawless ( and boring in my opinion ). People here talk, laugh and act spontaneously. So it can result in a loud laugh while you are enjoying an amazing massage given by the lady who washed my hair. I am the kind of person who like it this way so it looks like I found my new hairdresser in NYC ! I was given a discount because it was my first time so I paid 100 dollars for the cut and blow dry/styling. read more

I have straight, limp hair. I have spent years getting haircuts that don't work for me. Then I met Joseph 4 years ago. Right off the bat I had the best cut ever. My hair was swingy and manageable. Even though I like to wear my hair longer than I should - Joseph has always been patient, recommending a shorter cut, but always cutting it to the length I wanted. I finally agreed last week to the length he was recommending. It looks and feels fantastic! I like Miss K's Salon too it's warm and inviting. The cut is pricy. Bait and Switch 2 previous visits within the past year, 1/2 head highlights and cut, charged $132 & $154. Yesterday they charged me over $230 for the same exact service! Their response, "those are the prices". They said I should have saw the prices that were posted. I guess I shouldn't have relied on my past experience. My hair was a real mess, I had been doing my own color(red) and it was bright on the roots and another shade in the middle and dark on the ends. I went to Mariko at K's and she explained what she needed to do to make it better. I could not believe the end result, so beautiful! She was able to correct my color, give me light framing around my face, my hair color was stunning, a beautiful natural looking red I had always dreamed of having. (Many times I have been left with a blue red and very bright roots, not a good look!) She also cut my hair so I looked and felt like a total Rock Star! My blow dry lasted 4 days looking amazing! Mariko really listens and takes her time with you which is so nice. I saw her client before me leave looking beautiful and very happy and while I was processing with the color she did a haircut and the guy was happy and looked great. Mariko also does make-up and eyelash extensions, I have seen some of her work and she is an amazing artist. And such a lovely calming energy too.I will not go to anyone else ever again, I have found the perfect hairdresser for me! The salon is beautiful with white Alice in Wonderland framed mirrors and lovely chandeliers, very warm and comfortable. Everyone from the moment you walk in the door are nice. I felt very welcome here.The owner Kaye is lovely and all her staff are friendly and seem to enjoy working together, helping each other when needed. I was there awhile so I had a chance to chat with some of them, they all raved about my new look and are very supportive of each other. I really enjoyed the shampoo too, nice massage and relaxing a real treat! I also had a beautiful manicure with Judith, she is lovely and gave me a perfect manicure. We also had a great time talking, such a sweet person. I hear she does amazing facials which I plan to try soon. I have been back to K's 3 times so far and have enjoyed being there as well as walking out feeling and looking great! This place is absolutely a delight to visit. This was my first time and everything from the hospitality when you walk in through the door until the time you leave was superb. The salon has a very girly, living room/miami-esque kind of vibe. Everything is clean and the staff is beyond friendly. Mariko was AMAZING- not only did she listen carefully to my needs, she was very thoughtful about what's best for me and my hair (I'm very pregnant). She frequently checked to see if I needed a pillow, or if I felt cold or needed more tea. I've lived in the city a long time - it was refreshing to get this level service without the BS. I don't like giving a bad review but forewarned is forearmed! This salon is listed as $$ (out of $$$$) for a blow dry which I assume as reasonably affordable. Should have checked the price before hand. She did a great job, no doubt, but it was $70 for wash and blow dry (with a first time 15% discount). I usually pay $35-40 for the same job at other salons in the area but wanted to try a new place. Won't be going back at that price sorry. read more

I've been getting my hair cut at K's for more than 3 years now, and I just wanted to put in a word for how wonderful they are. It's the friendliest, most pleasant salon I've ever been to - relaxed and elegant at the same time - and they do a phenomenal job with hair! I went to Kaye until she moved back to Australia, and today Joseph did a great job with my hair. I no longer live nearby, but based on not-so-great experiences I had before I found K's, and some horrid Yelp reviews of other salons that are more convenient, it's worth coming back to the UWS and paying a little bit extra.
