SHE SHOULD HAVE HER LICENSE REVOKED!!!!!!! I would NOT return to Dr. Germaine if paid to do so. It was a terrible experience, unusually long wait, and Dr. Germaine is disconcertingly and transparently insincere. I went for adult acne, rosacea, and Botox. A specific appointment that was clarified and repeated on the phone. When I finally met Dr. Germaine she explained that she was not qualified to treat my acne with a prescription and that I must pay an additional $175 for an appointment on the medical side of the office (bait and switch). I am very experienced with Botox. It goes INTO the muscle (intramuscular) NOT on top of it (subcutaneous). It was very odd that Dr. Germaine did not inject it deeply enough and when I asked her why there was no sound (one can hear a pop when it enters the muscle sometimes), she seemed surprised and replied, "Oh, this is a new technique". Two weeks later, foolishly, I returnd for a touch-up because Dr. Germaine's "new technique" was ineffective excluding the fact that my forehead was lumpy. She was obviously displeased that I returned. Her curtness and urgency to be done with me and get out of the room to the next patient made me very uncomfortable...Do your research before trying a new medical professional. I've been seeing Dr. Germain for about 3 years now. I'm in my early 30s and starting noticing significant wrinkles between my eyebrows. I had Botox and this fixed my problem and no more squinting thank goodness. Next on my list was *lips*. I've been wanting fuller lips since I was 12 years old (I know young right lol) anyway I had my first experience with Juvaderm about a month ago and couldn't be more pleased. She was honest and upfront with me. She added Juvaderm above my lips and below to help with the outcome I was wanting as well as my upper and lower lips. I literarily cried afterwards, they were prefect and beautiful. Not to big (like duck lips) but just perfect to fit my face. I had some bruising and swelling afterwards but she had told me this was to be expected. I'm so pleased and cannot wait to see her again. Her staff was so professional and kind. I felt so welcomed and cared for. Neither procedure was painful, which I was mostly nervous for. If you're looking for the best in the Charleston area, this is the place and Dr. Germain is your girl. She spends time explaining procedures and things to expect and the best ways to achieve what your looking for and I never once felt pressured to be upsaled or pressured into buying products I didn't need or weren't interested in. I also got to try the cryotherapy which was amazing (definitely chilly) but I suffer from back pain and i was pain free for a week. Cryotherapy takes about 3 minutes and to be pain free for a week I would do this weekly. I would to thank to the staff at Germain Dermatology and Dr. Germain for giving me the most amazing experience and look I was going for. I've had two appointments at Germain Dermatology and can say I left both feeling a bit disappointed. A friend recommended Germain (she was a patient and even worked at the office for a year) to me as I recently moved to Charleston and was looking for a new dermatologist. The office was clean, the staff was nice and I was able to get in easily. I saw the same PA both times and she was very nice but I just didn't feel confident leaving the appointment that my concerns were really addressed. I get that you want to sell your own products / treatments but it all felt a bit weird. The PA did give me a prescription but it was sent to what I assume is their partner pharmacy, Professional Pharmacy in Anderson, SC, which means the prescription will be mailed to me (instead of it being sent to the pharmacy I provided). After not hearing anything for days, I called Professional Pharmacy and they said nothing was sent over for me and would follow-up. I think it's being figured out and I'll get it in the next week in the mail but overall I feel less than pleased and don't think I'll be back. read more

I highly recommend Germain Dermatology. They were very professional, comforting, knowledgeable, and well-equipped. I went for Coolsculpting treatments, my first cosmetic procedure ever. Great Staff - Their staff was easy to work with and their facility is top-notch. I'm not totally comfortable being naked in front of others, hence my Coolsculpting treatments, but the experience wasn't awkward at all. Well-Equipped - Not all facilities have two Coolsculpting machines, but Germain does. This is a major benefit, as those getting multiple cycles or treatments at once can cut their treatment time in half. A treatment/cycle for one area lasts an hour, so having 2 machines means 6 treatments is 3 hours instead of 6! I'm not an expert and I'm sure this time factor depends on the areas being treated, too. They made the actual procedure as comfortable as possible, too. As you sit through the procedure, you are seated in a reclining chair surround with pillows and covered with fluffy blankets. The Coolsculpting Coordinator is there with the push of a button if you need her, all the Netflix you can watch, and a table for anything you brought with you. Payment Options - I've always been more comfortable and confident when I'm happy with my body's appearance. But with age, it's been more difficult to get my desired results, which brought me to Coolsculpting. My final hesitation was payment... I was worried that procedures of this type would require up-front payment in full. But I was very pleasantly surprised. They accept the CareCredit card. This turned out to be a very reasonable way for me to make payments without interest over a long period of time for my treatments. read more

She's treated me for acne and general facial care. I was skeptical of her line of products when I first went in, thinking that it was just a way to put money in her pocket, but they actually work and do what she says they will. She only offers what I need, and helps me figure out how to save money on my overall treatment by streamlining the products my skin needs most. I truly love Dr. Germaine and I think she is by far the best dermatologist I have ever seen. We had established a patient/doctor relationship and I truly trusted her. However after not seeing her for many months because I was working out of state when I return to see her and she was disappointed that my skin did not look as well as it should have. I explained to her that I was out-of-state working and I did call her office for medication prescriptions. I was told by the girl that answered the phone just to use over-the-counter facial cleansers such as Cerave. She abruptly informed me that I would no longer be seeing her but I would be seeing her new partner. I was extremely disappointed and have not been back to this office since. I did not want to see another doctor I wanted to stay with Dr. Germaine. I thought the patient was the one that decided when she wanted to switch doctors. This really really hurt my feeling. I find myself adding to this post after discussing Dr. Germaine at my church yesterday. I was so surprised to hear that six of my Sunday school class members chose not to go back to Dr. Germaine because she farmed them out to other doctors in her office or in one case she asked one of our ladies to see her PA instead. I hope someone reads this and let Dr. Germaine know she is losing clients because of her new way of practicing. read more

I waited a month for a spot to see Dr. Germain. I was having a sudden and scary rash (on my face -- emergency!) that I needed a specialist's help on. I also had a list of other spots I wanted looked at while I was there. She blew into the room, took a quick look at me, gave me a diagnosis, and was ready to wrap things up. I kept having to stop her to say, "sorry, can I ask you one thing?" But I only got to one or two of my other things. I was bustled out of there super-quick. I would estimate we spent about 5 minutes together. Total bill=$200. Antibiotics prescribed: $100 for me; close to $1000 for insurance company. Plus various crèmes and whatnot. A follow-up is scheduled for one month later. Nothing has changed. I am still in pain from this rash and so worried and scared. We spend another 5 min together. She explains that this rash must be an allergic reaction, not what she said it was originally. Huh. Total bill=$200. Patient (me) still in the exact same condition she was before she came here but $500 poorer. Now, let me tell you, the staff is very professional and friendly. We're talking about a high-level operation here. But I will never ever go back and would stridently urge you not to go either -- a doctor who will not listen to you, who makes you feel disinclined to talk because of the rushed atmosphere -- that is not healthy. Well that was one of the worst experiences I've had at a medical practice!! The staff is about as friendly as a group of pit vipers (with the exception of one or two) and seems to think rolling their eyes at patients is "exceptional" service! On top of that the doctor is about one sandwich short of a picnic if you ask me! She seemed to talk more about her life than what I was at my appt for... I felt like I should get paid instead of the other way around! To top it off I heard gossiping about patients while in my room, where I waited almost 45mins to even see a doctor! My significant other, who had the appt slot right after mine, was told he would have almost a thirty minute wait bc it was lunch time and they were running behind, really?! When I asked what was in certain products and what their benefits were for me, that they were so keen on selling me, the "friendly" staff couldn't give me clear answers! They seem to be more worried about making money and getting more patients than they do with helping those patients they already have... Wasted my time and money completely! I've never had such a hard time trying to get my prescription! I took the time out of my work schedule and pulled my daughter out of school to make the 30 min drive to Mt Pleasant to be seen. Fast forward to over a month later- she's due for her follow up, and I STILL haven't gotten her prescription! First, they prescribed her a medication that is no longer made. Then I had to call to have the prescription reissued to something that's currently on the market. No one ever answered the phone or returned my calls. Finally I got tired of getting nowhere so I emailed the lady who created my online registration account (thanks Laura). She relayed my information to the front desk and finally that day they called me back. Supposedly, the replacement prescription was called in the first day I left a message- why didn't anyone think to notify me??? The next day I showed up to the clinic and of course, no prescription had been called in and of course the next day no one answered the phone/returned my calls. Again, I sent an email and again my information was relayed (thanks again Laura). The same day I received a call but of course they didn't know why my prescription wasn't showing up. They said to make things easier I could enroll in an online pharmacy where my prescription would be called in and it would be shipped to me in less than a week. I agreed and submitted the online info and waited. Again, nothing. I called the online pharmacy, they could see that I created an account, but again nothing had been called in. I've never had to work so hard to chase a prescription down, I might as well have gone somewhere else. I've tried calling them again today and as expected, no answer. I will say this about the staff however, they were very courteous and professional and were not pushy about trying to get me to buy any of their products. I didn't feel rushed throughout the consultation and the wait time was minimal. Would I go back? No, this for the most part has been a waste of my time, my daughter could have been taking her prescription for over a month now. I'll have to start over somewhere else. read more

I had a very unpleasant experience with a local derm who "guessed" my lesion was squamous cell. Cut, cauterized, and I was out of there. I called to ask about path report only to learn he didn't send out a specimen. As an oncology nurse, that was an unacceptable answer. An orthopedist referred me to Dr. McGowan who saw me quickly. As a MOHs surgeon, he took 3 samples before determining that he got clear margins in removal of the squamous cell. It was love at first sight. He walked in the room with such a warm and friendly smile and I felt I was in good hands. He's very personable and truly has a heart for his patients but above all, he's technically very proficient. It starts with the front-line girls Lauren, Emily, Hannah, Allie, & Kate. All 5 are extremely polite and accommodating, and then it just blossoms from there with Michael and Louisa adding their experience and insight to help create the best possible regimen to keep my children's skin healthy and optimal. I would suggest for ALL dermatology needs to see the awesome team @ Germain. From the front desk to the suture removal was a great experience. I was exceptionally pleased with Dr McGowan and his assistant Olivia while going through MOHs surgery. Everything was explained under a family oriented nature. Although the circumstances were not great for my visit, I could not have asked for a better experience with their entire office. My wife went to Germain. They convinced her to have a shot with the implications that insurance would cover it. Long story short. They send us a bill two months later stating we owe money for the shot. If they are not sure insurance will cover a procedure, they need to stop persuading patients to have procedures under the guise that insurance will cover it. Of course they are looking for that extra dollar to cover the Keurig machines in the waiting room. read more

I just had a silk peel a few days ago. I have been going for years and they do make a huge difference on your skin, so it is worth to do as you get older. I get a lot of compliments on my skin all the time. In all the years I have been going there was just one girl that was not so great, but the rest seemed to be fine. But, they did not do extractions. I have not been in a few months, so it seems Dr. Germain is now hiring licensed cosmetologists. To my great surprise I got this terrific young women, Ashley that gave me the best silk peel I have gotten in the 7 years I have been going to Dr. Germain. Ashley had a different technique how she did the silk peel , which was impressive. Then she did extractions on my face which I desperately wanted. And boy, did she get in there! I saw such a difference on my skin. I'm so glad Dr. Germain has decided to hire these trained women to do extractions now. I'll be using Ashley again. She was great. read more

Wow. What a disorganized and annoying process. In January and February, I made appointments for biopsies of moles on the medical side of the business and some cosmetic treatments on the cosmetic side. I agreed to the multiple visits for a package price. What a mistake. Five confirmed appointments total and each time they were running late - 30 minutes, 45 minutes - ridiculous. More is more for these people. One skin tag removal caused scar tissue - now I don't want to wear a sleeveless top. The overwhelming candles, lotions, and scents caused an asthma attack so I cancelled the last treatments. They said they were crediting my account which I assumed meant my credit card account. When I called today to see about the credit that never appeared on my account, I was informed over half of the credit had been used on medical bills I had never seen! Do yourself a favor and avoid the hassle, unprofessional behavior, and dishonesty. read more

I recently attended one of Dr. Germain's CoolSculpting events. The event itself was informal enough to feel at ease while also being very informative and entertaining. She even had a volunteer undergoing the treatment as a live demo. After giving her talk, Dr. Germain circulated the room and spoke with anyone who had questions while we waited to have our free consultation with the cool sculpting team. She took a genuine interest in not only what I was hoping to acheive with this particular procedure but also inquired about my work, family, life... it definitely did not come across as "business as usual". I am in pretty good shape, work out regularly and maintain a healthy diet. However, there are areas around my abdomen (the dreaded muffin top) that would not go away no matter how many crunches I did. So after my conversations with Lauren the CoolSculpting administrator and Dr. Germain I decided to go ahead with the treatment. During the procedure Lauren made sure to ease all of my axieties, explain every step of the process, and even shared her own experience recieving the treatment. I was wrapped in blankets, given snacks, and checked on frequently- all of which made something that is not necessarily the most comfortable couple of hours a very positive experience. My first experience with Dr. Germain was a great one so I returned to her office for another issue I was having. I had been suffering with a horrible itch for a couple of months when I saw her PA, My first visit with the PA she only got within 3 feet of my skin to look at it and the first thing was to give me steroids because my diagnosis was eczema. I was told to come back and given a list of products to use. I went back for a follow up visit and again the PA didn't even get close to me to look at my skin or scrap to investigate as to why I continued to itch. Last week I decided to go to a different Dermatologist and was seen at MUSC and had the best experience there! As soon as the doctor took my history, he examined my skin, scraped and finally a determination was made. So after 2 visits to Germain's office I was no closer to an answer but they had no problem charging me for those visits! I'm very disappointed in her staff, also the nurse that put me in the room wasn't very nice either, because of this experience I will never go back to Germain Dermatology for my skin needs. read more
