I liked that this was a smaller luau, which made it more enjoyable. The food was above average and hot - I don't like my food cold. The staff were very nice and welcoming. Female dancers were exceptional! And the main singer was talented. I just recommend the MC to speak lauder and with entonations since he was difficult to understand. This is the most fun I've had in quite a while! The scene was remarkable and the talent of every individual on stage and off was amazing. Don't even get me started on the food, because even that could have easily blown your mind! There was nothing to make everyone more comfortable than to have the best food and music along with sand between your toes! The show, dance, and voices are vital parts that I will remember for years. The bus drivers got on stage to "Strut their stuff", and Germaine's even brought in the crowd to feel like they were apart of the event by letting them dance on stage for a great once in a lifetime experience especially for those who can only visit Hawaii! (I know a lot of us are ballin' on a budget peeps). If you get the chance to go see what this luau has to offer then I advise that you take it! Was told by many people (both in Hawaii and not) that this was the Luau to go to. I couldn't agree more. It is a simple gathering nothing too wild. It is good family fun. The food is buffet style. But before food is served they perform the ceremonial revealing of the all day cooked pig. I dont eat pork but that pig did look and smell amazing! Back to the buffet...if you are someone who doesnt eat pork like me. There is some delicious and very tender chicken and some very delicious white fish. There is an assortment of sides from pasta salad, pine coleslaw, to glass noodles and more. The food and entertainment was a nice addition to my new wife and I's honeymoon vacation. read more

My girlfriend and I share the same birthday, though I blessed the world with my presence quite a few years earlier than she did. Being the good planners that we are, we planned absolutely nothing for our birthdays in advance, and my husband was off the hook this year as he isn't even on the same continent. We tossed the idea around of a luau as neither of us had attended one, and were initially going to try to attend elsewhere, but the stars didn't align in the favor of Germain's competitor so off to Germain's we went.... Since we live locally, we did not arrive on a giant Robert's Hawaii tour bus, and were also able to get discounted tickets through MWR/ITT. Although the discount was great, the only "meh" part was that due to the fact that Germain's is open seating, if you want to get a good seat, you do need to arrive by about 5:00 to get a good spot before the droves of tour buses arrive. Each admission included the show, buffet and three drink tickets. Apparently if we had arrived by bus, there were also photos being taken (for sale), but truth be told we would not have purchased souvenir photographs. There were some tables that were reserved, but several tables that were available front and center so we grabbed one of those. Each table had several wedges of fresh pineapple for folks to munch on while waiting so we helped ourselves to that and some water and enjoyed being in the shade. Once everyone arrived, the evening started with the pig being taken out of the imu and we moved on to the rest of the evening. I think they welcomed the tour bus operators, and did some prize giveaways. The highlight of that was when the "first prize" winners turned out to be an engagement. Super sweet... They called everyone up by table to get their food and there was a decent selection. Pineapple coleslaw, macaroni salad, tossed salad, white rice, long rice with chicken, lomi lomi salmon, some chicken dish, teriakyi beef, the pig, fried fish, haipua, poi and two sheet cakes. The food was surprisingly good. The drinks were okay, nothing to write home about, good enough. The show was lots of fun with dancing, and fire dancing. There was lots of audience interaction, which is not my thing per say, but it was fun watching others. read more

My family and I wanted to try a different luau other than our usual place Paradise Cove. You can make online reservations but if you want Kamaiana Rate you will need to call customer service and make reservations. If you don't plan on taking the shuttle to the luau they won't need your credit card to hold your reservations, you can pay when you get there. Getting there was easy, just take the Campbell Industrial Park exit and go towards your route to Costco but stay on the main road and keep going down till the end of the road take a right. Then you'll see a little fenced parking area. I like how they have ample parking and a security guard. The setting is beautiful, it's a little cozier than paradise cove but the intimate dinner is nice sometimes. Gates open at 5:15pm so get there early to see the sunset and take pictures next to the light house. You get a free drink with your ticket but not sure which drink is actually free, I got a chi chi (coconut blended drink) which is extra $5 with ticket and a corona extra $5 as well. So not sure what the whole logic was for the tickets if you needed to pay extra for those drinks. Water and fountain drinks are complimentary on the other side of the venue. Show starts with a welcoming message and what I really didn't like was the how the program focused on the bus drivers and the shuttles. I understand most of your sales comes from Waikiki but it was just a waste of time. Paradise Cove has lots of visitors from Waikiki but I don't hear much of it. It just felt like we were isolated and it distracted us from the program. Also what I didn't like was the reveal of piggy, they had it all chopped up already not the whole pig, so no picture opt for that (I know my son really wanted to see it). And last but not least no other activities you can enjoy, no lie making or haku making, no games at all. The food was usual, bbq chicken, chicken long rice, kalua pig, salad and etc. No poi bread like the others and no lau lau. Out of all the major luau-type activities in Oahu, I'd have to say this is my favorite one. No frills. No waste of time. You just get down to business here. To me, a true luau, is a party...basically, a good time. And, I found it here. The shuttle bus (which is included as part of the admission fee) picked my sister and me up at our designated hotel in Waikiki. I was expecting our tour guide (Cousin Greg) to talk about some points of local interest (as I had experienced in the past during my bus rides to Paradise Cove and Polynesian Cultural Center). Zilch. Nada. Nothing. Now, I don't have the map of Oahu in front of me, but I take it there were just no points of local interest along the route to Germaine's Luau. Am I wrong? I hope not, otherwise Cousin Greg didn't do the best job. But, he was a great tour guide, and did what he had to so that by the time we got to the private beach where Germaine's is located, we all felt like "ohana." For the 21 and up package, you get three complimentary drink tickets (which I pretty much used within the first hour or so I was there, thank goodness those nice ladies seated next to us gave away their drink tickets to us!) and buffet. I thought the food was pretty good, especially the beef. My sis and I skipped out on the pig ceremony since we've been to luaus before, but the actual show on stage was great! The lady dancers are beautiful, but what we really came here for were the GUYS!!! And yes, we each had our eye candy on stage. I also liked Cousin Reno, who happens to be the son of one of the emcees. He was really cute up on stage dancing hula with the other tour guides. Oh, and I must add, unlike Paradise Cove, here, the dancers don't come out to the audience after the show. My sis and I were bummed because we didn't get a chance to take photos with the male dancers we each fancied. Seriously, how could you get a chance to know who the cuties were until the show took place? So, you kinda have to be on the look out before the show starts because some of them do hang out with the crowd before the actual show begins, and you can take your photos with them then. The performers on stage were very interactive with the audience. The set-up felt very intimate, so it was like having a party in your backyard. At one point, my sis and I got up on stage with a bunch of other ladies to do the hukilau. The weird part though was the "kissing line," where we basically greeted a line of 30 or so strange men (basically the guys in the audience), who kissed each of us ladies on the cheek with an Aloha greeting. It was a bit weird. If you want a luau experience that will last just a few hours (so you have the first part of the day to hit the beach and do other things), and all you really need is food, drinks and a good show (no arts and crafts and a bunch of side stuff), then this is the luau for you. read more

If you bring children with you, they definitely need jackets! - At least ONE person in your party need to bring ID to get alcoholic drinks. - Bring cash to get more alcoholic drinks, tips, souvenirs or spray-on tattoos ($5 each). Save $20 for our family photo print-out. - Remember to enter the raffle! Location (4/5): This luau locates around 45 minutes away from downtown area. We used Google Map on our phone to beat the traffic since we started driving at 4:30pm (peak traffic time). About 5 minutes before you arrive at the destination, you will realize that this luau oddly locates inside an industrialized zone which happens to be next to the Barbers Point Beach. There are plenty of parking spaces regardless if you go to the beach only or the luau. Services (3/5): Since we drove ourselves to the luau, I have no idea what kind of service you get if enter by tour bus. While you enter the entrance, they will give you a ticket (with 3 alcohol drink tickets if you are above 21). Yes, that means all non-alcohol drinks are free! On the ticket, there is a piece where you can write your name down. That's for the raffle! So don't forget to drop your info in the box near the gift shop. The gift is a whole package of photos they took of you at the entrance and more! Once you found your seats, put the lace of shells on top of the table to reserve. I have not yet seen any party that was mean enough to take over seats with lace-reservations. In case you don't want to self-reserve, I recommend calling the luau people in advance asking them to reserve for you ahead of time... Perhaps, they might charge (idk)! The two main details that their services drop down to 3 are (1) it took them a while to feed us, (2) a beautiful dancer approached to our table, asked if we came to the luau for certain celebrations, promised that the MC would call our parents' names cos they came for their anniversary, and never did it! Food (3/5): The food is buffet style. Unless you have children in your party, you have to wait for them to tell when you can get your food. The food itself tasted okay. I remembered while waiting for our turn, we promised ourselves to come back two or three times, nobody ended up returning... The menu served original Hawaiian food and desserts even the most exciting meat (kulau pork they cooked underground from 5am) didn't taste as wowing! I would gladly go to Ono Hawaiian Foods restaurant for much better quality food. Food aside, I love their alcoholic bar. They have good standard drinks (1 ticket per drink) and special mix drinks (2 tickets per drink). If I were to redo my luau experiences, I would book Pacific Cove Luau since I enjoyed my experiences there more than this one :( read more

I wish I could say the location of this place is perfect but it's not. Whether you are a Tourist on a bus, a Tourist driving, or a local resident checking the place out....it's quite the scenery. The beautiful industrial buildings of Kapolei, ohhh what a view! The Luau was not hard to find at all, just very well Hidden. Lot's of parking space if you plan on driving! Just arrive early to get a decent parking spot. We came here only because my childhood friend was visiting, and she paid for our tickets via LivingSocial Deal for $35 per person. Complete with buffet and entertainment. I was so upset that at the end of the Luau, the Gift Shop was CLOSED. Are you serious? How is anyone suppose to buy a souvenir if you close the shop when the Luau is done? what if you were seated the whole time, just thinking "oh I won't visit the gift shop i'll do that later, since the entertainment is starting" What a rip off on that! I felt so bad for my friend who couldn't get something else rather than a PICTURE packet for $20! Maybe it wasn't worth whatever is inside there anyway. Luckily, I went to the gift shop BEFORE I sat down and my husband saved the seats, but I also felt bad for him because he wanted to check the gift shop after, but since they closed it, it didn't happen. They probably would make more money if they did leave it open before, during, and after the Luau. Other than that, the food was actually delicious compared to PCC's. I also didn't enjoy the fact that they say, you can have "seconds and thirds" but throw away the food before you can do that, I mean I think they should let us take some of that leftover food home! Maybe that's just the filipino in me, who likes taking food home and save for later. My overall experience was "okay" the dancing and entertainment was decent, I've seen better at Chief's Luau, and it seems like there is always a PROPOSAL at this Luau since I read a couple reviews, and I experienced it too...it's just awkward. I also brought bug repellent and sprayed some one JUST in case, since it was outdoors and IN SAND. I attract bugs/mosquitoes like crazy, if I didn't bring any or put any on I don't know if I would be bit or not, but better safe than sorry! It probably depends on the month you go. Oh man, this is cheeeeesy. Painfully so. I've heard that there's not much to choose from in Oahu, as far as luaus are concerned, it's this or the Mormon one. Apparently the Morms have more authentic dancers, but there's no way in hell I'm supporting their church/ worldview, so to Germaine's we went! Also, no booze with the Morms. Bus ride there: about 45 minutes long, you have a tour guide on the mic who entertains the crowd and gives you "secret" tips about the luau. We had Holly, she was very funny and cute but I hate this kind of forced banter. I paid the $8 for a larger glass for my "free" mai tais. It's a huge scam but it is a cute glass and I needed to get drunk in order to endure the silliness. Strong drinks, especially if you tip well. Food: horrendous. They take a pig out of a pit but that's not the one you're served. It's a buffet line of crappy cafeteria style food. My friend recognized most of it as Costco salads/ sides. Truly disgusting food. Don't go on an empty stomach. Entertainment: meh. It feels like a Knott's Berry Farm act. Nothing to write home about. Lots of embarrassing audience participation. I have been to luaus on Maui, the big island of Hawaii and Kauai with each one seem to have a different setting and theme. Germaine's is unusual because you have to take a 45 minute bus drive onto a private beach and listen to cuz Greg (or one of the many tour guides) narrate about the Hawaiian folklore. Hang loose brudah and he would do the thumb up with the pinky waggin with his right hand. I would do the Texas longhorn version (index inger and pinky straight out). Usually these luaus can run $60 to $75 a head but I went to a timeshare presentation and received a freebie. OK , I admit I own a timeshare and went to an update, received the luau for free. Back to the luau. Ladies do not wear your 4 inch spike heels because the setting is on sand with a stage sound surrounded by tables. Gentleman wear your Hawaiian shirts that your wives or girlfriends bought you. Each person received two drink tickets but my partner in crime was not drinking so I had four of them. My bartender Kimo (my name for him) hooked me up with some Blue Hawaiians that would not quit. After three of those life was good. Side note...they have a presentation of the pig where they grab the pig from the earth (mesh and ti leaves) and say a prayer. For picture takers. The food is served buffet style, usual bill of fare: assortments of salads, terayaki beef, fried chicken, kalua pig, desserts. The food was not to bad and not too salty. Entertainment consisted of different forms of dance such as tahitian, samoan, tongan and hawaiian. Very pretty girls who knew how to shake the grass skirts, smile and show off those coconuts. For the ladies, studly type of male dancers to drool over. The highlight was the fire dancer who had the batons of fires. Plus they had open enrollment for male and female audience partcipation (hide your ass). In addition, singers who sing traditional hawaiian songs. My biggest issue was that I was really hungry going in and the food, I felt, took forever. So, first there's a whole ceremony where they take the piglet out of the ground and dammit it smells good. Then, they serve the food via buffet, letting each section of tables go up at a time. My table was the last one called to get in line for the food. Gaaaaawd dammit. I ate everything on my plate, including pieces of the plate. And even in the extreme state of hunger, I could still tell the food was mediocre. On to the talent. Beautiful. Dancers. Let it be known that offering a one star rating on anything Hawaiian is difficult for me. I have such a respect for the culture and people, however I also think there are some glaring issues here that need to be addressed. You're basically going to a luau sandwiched in between a dump and some sort of "yard" that reeks of oil. This in itself is disturbing due to the fact that. A) Sand fleas abound & B) the smell of oil waives over you with the tradewinds. I won't even get into the cheesy attire, show, and lackluster drinks/meal. What absolutely overwhelmed my entire party (there were 8 of us) was the flea bites all down our calves and all over our feet.We actually left mid-show and stopped @ Costco to pick up hydrocortisone cream to rub all over ourselves. Note: this occurred at our dining picnic tables, not down on the beach. We were being chewed thru dinner & the show. It was unbearable! I suppose this was avoidable had we all worn long pants, socks, and shoes. But, I find it disturbing nonetheless. If you choose to attend, I highly recommend taking this into consideration. It was both uncomfortable and highly unsanitary. Speaking of unsanitary, the bathrooms were not well kept either. They really need to work on some housekeeping issues here. And finally, the toxic smell. I will admit I have a sensitive sniffer (possibly a bloodhound in my past life?) but this was ridiculous. While sitting outside having a drink and enjoying my view (there is a nice view if you just stare at the ocean and nowhere else) I should not have to be overcome with the nasty smell of an oil refinery. There are MANY luau options. If your trip includes traveling to neighboring islands, I highly recommend experiencing a luau there as Oahu has rather limited choices. But if Oahu is you only option, I highly recommend choosing a different venue. I'm just thankful that I didn't ride in on one of the tour busses that would have trapped me in flea hell without any option to leave! **. I work at a tourism agency and a lot of times many of my customers always ask for an authentic luau that's not so "touristy" Of course none of these paid attractions would come close to a real home luau, but Germaine's can get super close. I guess I didn't give it a five star because the location kinda kills the mood, since its right next to the industrial park at Barbers Point, but besides all that it still won me over. So when you enter you are greeted with a shell lei. The backdrop for the picture isn't all that extravagant and you don't get the people in their costumes, but the photos always come out great. The drive out isn't all that pretty, but once you're in there, you'll be in awe of how close extremely close you are at the water. Although, you wouldn't be able to go in the water. Make sure you wear sandals or you'll be sinking in the sand all night. The fun part was seeing everyone go barefoot, and just seeing how comfortable and relaxed everyone was. The seating is a first come , first served type of deal. Germaine's has tables were you can either sit on mats, which are right in the front, or sit on the ones with benches, but they got plenty of tables to choose from. They let people in by 515. So people who drive out gets the good seat , and if they arrive before the people who rode the buses get in. Which will probably be around 5:20, in Oahu it really depends on the traffic! Each table comes with a fresh pineapple. Then each ticket comes with three free drinks. Coffee, water , fountain drinks and juice were all complimentary which was amazing, how generous!! The type of liquor drinks you can get varies from then number of ticket you want to use. One ticket can get u a regular mai tai when two can get you something more like a margarita. The drinks were pretty hefty with alcohol! The bartenders were cool and friendly. Ask them for a suggestion, they'll serve you with a smile! So basically once your sightseeing, picture taking, mai tai drinking self is all settled. Some of the show will start. The host will introduce himself and welcome you with the AALLLLOOOHHHHAAAA thing haha. Minutes later they direct you to the emu pig ceremony; featured in an episode of Diners Drive ins and Dive (food network) It was a good experience to see it done, looked kinda painful with all the heat coming out of the ground, but it does smell sooo good! Right after the aroma of the smoked pig filled up the whole entire area I was so ready to eat. So basically each table take turns getting up for the buffet. We sat at the closest side to the beach and ate last. So If you want to eat first sit farther away from the water or on the mats! But even still we enjoyed the food, it was all on point. That kailua pork was so tender! First time I've enjoyed poi! They had fried chicken and mahi-mahi. Some Assorted salad, teriyaki beef, taro bread; Great Hawaiian staples. The dessert menu was small but after the entree part. I was honestly stuffed, but still had to try the bomb coconut cake. So as you eat the continue performing, the usual at a luau : the different Polynesian dancing and of course the samoan knife fire dance. So what I really liked about Germaine's was how wholesome it felt. Even tho I'm fairly new to Hawaii, I felt at home at Germaine's. The show was super entertaining and the workers felt more like family than a staff. It didn't feel rehearsed at all. 5 hours wasted in Hawaii. Wanted to do an authentic luau during our visit to Hawaii. Let's be upfront- there is evidently no such thing as an authentic luau anymore. Everything is commercialized now and profit is the name of the game. This luau was nothing more than a overly long musical production accompanied by not-so-very good bbq food. Have you ever been on a cruise with a stop at one of their "fake islands?" This was it reminded me of. I thought the saving grace would be the food, but I was mistaken. I'm a huge guy that eats like no tomorrow and left half my food on the plate and didn't even consider a second run through the buffet. The pig was the star, but nothing to write home about. Coleslaw, rolls, rice and other basics accompanied it- sadly no hamburgers or hotdogs to save the day (not that I wanted them when I booked- but when I realized things had gone south, I was hopeful). Your 3 drink tickets will get you 8oz of certain drinks- but not all (some cost 2 tickets). For $15 you can buy a 20oz glass that they will fill completely for your drink tickets. See what they did there? For having 3 20oz drinks, I was stone sober. Definitely watered down/not very strong. Kids in the audience seemed to have a good time, so it may be more of a family thing... but if you're a couple looking for something to do, your money would be better spent trying a great restaurant on the island and a catamaran cruise. I had such a wonderful time! I went with a large group of people - we all live on Oahu so we carpooled with each other. We arrived around 5:30p just as the large tour buses were arriving as well. Because of that, the entrance was a bit congested. I believe the gates open at 5:15p so I would recommend getting there as early as possible to avoid the herds of tourists arriving on the tour buses. Seating is on a first-come-first-serve basis but because we were a large party, they reserved two tables for us, which was very nice of them to do, otherwise we probably would be sharing tables with other people other than our own group. We had a bit of some time to walk around, get drinks early, take in the sites of the beach and take photos. The Show/dinner started at 6p and ran through 9p. The buffet was very good. The show was excellent and all the dancers were amazing. The live band was very good as well. Each adult is given three alcoholic drink tickets and non-alcoholic drinks are free. I had three alcoholic drinks throughout the night and I was satisfied with that so I didn't have the need to spend extra on more drinks. The nice thing about their drink bars is they have one bar for alcohol and a separate bar in a different area for soft drinks, water, coffee and tea. That was very smart for them to do it that way because there was never a line at the soft drinks bar so you can very easily get non-alcoholic drinks without any wait. However, at times, especially in the beginning of the evening, the bar for alcoholic drinks had very long lines. I'm giving four stars because I enjoyed nearly everything about this luau. The staff was extremely friendly and nice, even the reservations dept over the phone, was very polite. The food and drinks were wonderful and the show/dancers/musicians were fantastic. The only reason why I could not give the fifth star is due to the parking. Obviously, this Luau is catered to tourists, hence the many bus loads of tourists that arrived. The parking lot for people coming on their own, is very small. Luckily we found a stall when we arrived but the parking lot was already full when we got there. Another car in our group arrived a little later than the rest of us, and there was no parking for them so they had to park at the nearby public beach park. read more

Germaine's Luau is not worth your time or money. No Hawaiian soul at all. Mostly Tahitian dancing and no real representation of all of the Hawaiian Cultures. The dancers were definitely talented, but the production was just now well thought out, in my opinion. It was more like a Vegas Show trying to be Hawaiian. The food was awful. Choices? Pineapple cole slaw, three bean salad, Macaroni salad, Haupia, poi, mahi mahi (a joke as it was just breaded filets of fish), bland fried chicken, shredded kalua pork,and some other kind of pork terriyaki, chopped salad, chocolate cake and coconut cake. They say its an all you can eat Buffet. But as soon as everyone has passed through once, they pack it all up and put it away! Same with the drinks. Once everyone is settled and has their eyes on the entertainment, they close up the beverage bar so no one can get their all you can drink on!!!!! To top it off, it RAINED the entire time we were there. So I was soaked and our food got soggy. I'm not trying to blame it on Mother Nature---it just didn't help matters. They should have cancelled the entire thing and rebooked everyone. I was soooooo disappointed. If you go to Oahu....better you spend your money for the HA show & dinner at Polynesian Cultural Center or Paradise Cove Luau. I did Germaine's Luau 13 years ago and if was MUCH DIFFERENT than what I experienced tonight. I'm embarrassed to have recommended it to friends and family in recent months. I TOTALLY WANT MY MONEY BACK. The ONE okay thing was the bus driver and our bus host. He TRIED to put us in a good mood. He succeeded for the most part. PARTY OF 6 ENVIRONMENT Okay from my point of view, I am from Hawaii and I never had the chance to go to an actual hosted "Luau" with professional dances and the works. So my family have chosen to experience Germaine's Luau. Returning back to the islands for just a week, this was the thing I needed to do before I leave. Dont let the environment fool you. If you decide to drive out to this place, you will notice industrial lots. It you come with a tour bus, you may not really care or notice these things. When I got out of the car, I notice the partial dirt/sand parking lot and started walking to the ticket office. Then when I walked right into the venue, I was so floored. My mouth dropped at the scenery. It reminded me of those Gidgit, or Blue Hawaii Elivis movies. There was a beach along the side and the way the waves perfectly moved with the sunset. It was just so "movie" perfect. Very touristy but beautiful. Tables were set up right. There were the normal long picnic tables and some where you have to sit low on the ground too. The stage was covered in natural foliage and buffet set up along the side. I recalled hearing the announcer that they had someone there to give you temporary tattoos. There were two little shack houses that serviced free non alcoholic drinks and the other was where you got your fancy hard or cocktail drinks. FOOD I have to say the food was good. Now the key things I was looking for and was present.......was the kalua pork, lomi lomi salmon and poi. Of course there were a lot more other dishes like fried chicken, beef roasted with this slighty teriyaki flavored sauce, steamed rice. Ohhh HAUPIA. Okay the food was good. SERVICE There is a polynesian dance group. Professional dancers and I especially loved the fire dance. They were all great. I do recommend others to try out this luau. To me they did a great job. I think now I will make it a MUST SEE to try out other Luau's too. I dont have anything to compare this place with, so right now....I recommend it. read more

My friends and i were very disappointed! there is these guests who came in our table to seat and i told the other lady that my husband seats where she is and she answered " i don't care i'm not interested with your husband".I was shocked so my friends talk to employee if they can move us or something coz we are not comfortable and we don't want to argue. He said he cannot do nothing coz there is no available table but we saw a table available for different package!Sorry but very poor service coz this is the only place i've experienced this! as far as i know a business establishment always priority their guests satisfaction but i don't know what happened. i only appreciate their the show. read more

We have never been to a Luau and I will rate this Luau fairly, on the basis of my experience and expectations. The purpose of a vacation to me is to truly understand the culture of the place I visit. I am very laid back and non critical, and prefer a happy go lucky attitude on vacation. In that light, I am thankful that I could take a vacation to Hawaii on a whim, and attend a luau and learn from the experience and enjoy the joy and warmth of the local people. Agree with reviewers,this luau is not close to the Waikiki beach, but then again no other luau in Oahu is! We were given an option to choose between the Polynesian culture center and the Germaine's luau and we chose Germaine's as it had better ratings(on tripadvisor/expedia where more international reviews are found) and it was also recommended by locals. Both options were bonus activities on the 'Go Oahu' card which we recommend to all first time visitors. We were picked up from our hotel by our escort Georgi, for whom I will give the fourth star she was witty, funny, knowledgeable and full of aloha! There wasn't a single moment when we were bored, and we had several activities on the bus ride where we met other tourists, learnt some Hawaiian and sang a few songs. Our bus had an amazing 'shaka'(cool) group. An Australian mens volleyball team, a family of a Canadian singer who vacation every year in hawaii, and many fellow Californians. We all enjoyed exchanging anecdotes and travel tips. Georgie would always engage with us, and tell us stories of her hawaiian cousins and the many aspects of their culture and food. Presently, we arrived at the venue and each one of us were welcomed with a Lei. The beach at which Germaine's is located has a beautiful lighthouse and the view of the sunset is breathtaking. We were given 3 complimentary drinks along with the buffet ticket. We were told by the tour operators that since we were vegetarians, we would be called first to choose our food, however, Germaine's encourages you to call in advance and they will make a special vegetarian meal for you. The drinks were potent and i was feeling a nice happy buzz. The evening began with the arrival of the richly arrayed royal court, resplendent in their feather capes,colorful leis and feather helmets. They begin a procession which marks the official beginning of the Luau feast. All of the audience accompanies the royals to the site of the Imu where the Kaulua pig is cooked from the morning of that day. To the tunes of the conch the cooked pig is ceremoniously taken to the feast. Once we all load our plates with food. We only had the salads and desserts as we are vegetarians, but did not really mind the food as we were here for the experience of the Luau. We thoroughly enjoyed the chocolate cake and the coconut cake which were both delish and unlimited. While we ate, the dancers and musicians performed different dances representing all the polynesian islands. We loved the colorful costumes and beautiful dances from Tahiti and new Zealand. All of us wahines(women) were invited on stage to participate in a hula called Hukilau, which is an ancient dance describing the hawaiians harvest fish from the sea. This dance was easy and fun and I thoroughly enjoyed dancing on stage. The kanes(men) are also taught to dance and it's quite hilarious to watch the men compete with the women. Many more dance performances later, the highlight of the evening a Samoan fire dance is performed. This is very similar to the fire acts performed in India in street circuses and I felt bad for the entertainer as this fire act is dangerous and affects the health of the performer, though, I found most of the audience really enjoy this particular act more than the rest. At the end of this act, there was a small chrsitmas inspired hula and it was very entertaining especially for the children in the audience and we left the Luau by around 11.30 to reach our hotel by 12.40. I would recommend a Luau as a must do activity to people who visit Hawaii. It helps you understand and appreciate the Aloha in the air. My parents just recently took a trip to visit us and one of my dad's request was that he wanted to go to a luau. I had tried many of the luau options (Paradise Cove & PCC for example) but I had yet to try Germaine's. So we decided why not! First great thing: Kama'aina discount that can be applied to the whole party as long as one person is Kama'aina! Awesome! So all 4 of us got in cheaper - yes! Another perk is I called 2 days before and they had no problem getting us a reservation for the day I wanted - score for procrastination! I LOVED the atmosphere feel of Germaine's. It is set back in what you would originally think would be an odd location - but once you walk onto Germaine's grounds it is like waking into a family luau on the beach. It was a beautiful location, right on the beach (Great photo ops!) and it is a cozy, comfortable close atmosphere. The 2 hosts of the show were funny and did a wonderful job! Performances were spot on and I thought the whole show was very well put on! I'd definitely be coming back to this luau (Likely over the others I've been to!) when people are visiting and craving the luau experience. All the staff I ran into were very friendly and created a great environment! Parking was easy for those who are driving in. It seems though that they have a great system for tourists who bus in. Each bus has an "escort" and although I didn't bus in (That would have been silly, I live like 10 minutes away!) I could tell that Germaine's did a great job with those people who took the bus. Everyone on all the different buses seemed to be pumped for the luau when they arrived and that carried through the whole evening! All in all - great experience! I'd recommend this place! read more

I don't know if they thought they were going to the Ritz for dinner and Wolfgang Puck was going to cook for them or something but despite what others have written this whole experience was awesome! We bought tickets on hawaiidiscount.com the day the morning we wanted to go. Got 2 tickets for $109 including pick up from a hotel a block away from ours. Got an informative email telling us where to catch the shuttle bus etc. We arrived at 4:35pm as instructed and Cousin Taite was there to greet us, he was friendly and checked us in and we boarded the bus. The bus was sort of stuck in traffic because of rush hour but Taite took the time to entertain us with stories and memorized every single person's name on the bus, impressive. After about a 45 minute bus ride we arrived at the luau, it is in an industrial area but who cares? You're paying $50 for a free ride, show, dinner, and 3 drinks! You picked a seat and there was fresh pineapple on the table for you to have. It started raining a bit when we were there and there were guys handing out ponchos to everyone within 30 seconds. There was a ceremony to raise the pig from the ground and The show began with some great dancers and we were dismissed to get food a few tables at a time. It was a buffet line that moved quickly and wasn't fancy. Food was served on a chinet plate but all was delicious. Kalua pig was cooked perfect, teriyaki beef, chicken, salads, desserts, and all the soda and coffee you could suck down. As part of it you got 3 drink tickets for things like Mai Tai, Blue Hawaii etc. They were decent and well poured or you could have 3 beers with the tickets. The show itself was awesome, all kinds of dances from all throughout the Pacific Islands, great singer and MC and lasted about 1.5 hours. They put us back on the bus, Taite entertained us with more stories and Captain Ben (our driver) played the ukelele for about 20 minutes before we left, he was amazing! NOTE: This review is only for Germaine's Customer Service! TLDR: customer service was very attentive and understanding of the situation that was not their fault and out of their hands. Gave my whole group refunds with no hesitation And called us back the next day to confirm. That's how you get customers back! On March 31st 2015, me and several of my friends were supposed to head over to Germaine's Luau over at Kapolei. Unfortunately, that day also happened to be the day the zipper mobile (a vehicle that is used to switch lane space on their highways) broke down and caused catastrophic traffic jams. We left the hotel at 3:50 Pm and were able to move 3 miles north of Waikiki in the span of 2.5 hours. Germaine's was 20 miles away. We were distraught because that was the last day in Hawaii and we couldn't reschedule and We feared that a cancelation would result in a loss of money for us. However, throughout this waiting I was able to call their reservation office and talked to a couple of representatives would were not only aware of the situation but told me that they would be happy to offer refunds to my whole group. When we decided to cancel, the office closed and again we worried, but the next day they called us and again assured us our money would be refunded in full. I am sad that we were not able to experience their luau (hence 4 stars), but I am happy to have learned about their great customer service. read more

I bought tickets to this luau because it has the most consistent and best reviews online. The check in process was a unnecessarily tedious, and it seemed a little disorganized upon arrival. But, for as many guests as they have, the food lines were managed quite well and took almost no time at all. However, the bars really needed to be staffed a little better as those lines were quite long. I enjoyed the show, but do agree with some other reviewers that commented on the length of the show and that it seemed to drag on a bit. It did seem that they were sort of reaching for something to fill the time. Since it's a seat yourself, first come - first served type of place, I ended up with a table in the back, which was great when it came time to fight the crowd to leave, but I couldn't hear anything they were saying on stage during the show. The food was decent. The pig was phenomenal, everything else was ok; it's a buffet and if your expectations are in line with a buffet, then you will be satisfied. I haven't any other luaus to compare this experience to, but the prices I researched were all comparable. If you poke around the internet enough, you can find some decent discount deals. Don't waste your money on this one. Find something more authentic. Have you ever been to a strip club? This is a lot like that but no one gets naked. The master of ceremonies' rapid-fire commentary is mostly unintelligible. He makes an introduction and five women or five men or all ten dancers come out in new costumes and dance for a few seconds, followed by more banter. Repetitive and boring mostly.  There are a couple highlights, however. The food is plentiful and delicious. The bar and cocktails are great. And the fire dancers near the end of the show were exciting and fun to watch. The rest of the show was trite. It's like someone invented this show in the 1970s after reading a children's book on the Pacific Islands and then never bothered to check with locals for authenticity. There is lots of pandering to the audience. Oh and be prepared to shout "Aloha" about 30 times like you're in some sort of Pavlovian prompt and response experiment. Save your money on this one. Just not worth it. Look for something more authentic. read more

So, now that you're in beautiful Hawaii, how would you like to visit... THE DUMP? They drove us on a bus packed full of people to some wasteland in the middle of nowhere. The luau site was juxtaposed right next to a rather large scrap metal dump (or is the PC term 'electronic waste recycling facility?). Make sure you conveniently snap your palm tree and ocean pics whilst omitting this eyesore. The frond-less palms and hungry circling seagulls do make capturing a shutterfly album-worthy photo a tad difficult. Two words made the evening worthwhile for most of the attendees, at least according to our observation... DRINK TICKETS. Our poor friend needed a few desperately to stop scratching the HUNDREDS of sand fly bites she sustained during the event. They basically went to town on both of her legs right under the picnic style table we were sitting at. Forget your sarong, come equipped with mosquito chain mail!! And for the finale... A large VW van hit the side of our tour bus, and then... just kept going. We even had to pull over, unload all of us and inspect for damage. In short, fun for the whole family! Yes!!!!! Overall it was decent. The food was ok, the show was fine, most of the drinks were alright. It is nice that they offer free transportation to/from Waikiki and the shuttle escorts are actually pretty funny. Also, I'm very glad I used a discount site to book our tickets and didn't pay full price. If I would have paid full price I think it would have effected my rating. As mentioned in the other reviews there are a TON of bugs so if you are the type that prone to bug bites like me than be sure to cover your self in bug spray! I was with a large group of people and those that didn't shower themselves in bug spray ended up with a few bites. Also, a tip for the ladies do not wear heals or wedges. You sit in the sand and there is a fair amount of walking (to get your food, to go to the bar for drinks, to the bathroom). You will be way more comfortable in flip flops :) In the end I probably don't see myself ever choosing to return to Germaine's Luau, but if I was with another big group and the others had their hearts set on going I would return. read more

Our bus waited for two stragglers at Aulani :( we missed the best parts of a luau, I felt, with taking in the spectacular sunsets. This one was definitely a more laid back luau compared to Paradise Cove. NOT the fault of Kale, our bus host, the rain interrupted our luau and while everyone was given complimentary ponchos, we had children in our group and it was not a good situation to sit in the downpour. Most everyone had been served. The only plus for me was the assistance in being given service at the buffet line because of my son. Seats are all first come first serve. Lost my group at one point and we all reunited at the bus fortunately. Later to find that the best part of the show, the fire dancer, obviously couldn't go on. The good: the food selection was pretty tasty, I thoroughly enjoyed what bit I was able to finish. The bad: Catering to the masses I truly felt "herded" through the bus entrance, shell lei and sunset photo immeiately exiting the bus, and the show MC was difficult to understand. Incluing the downpour of RAIN cutting our luau short. I'm still waiting to hear back from our ticket agent regarding their policy when it comes to these circumstances. read more

I brought my in laws here from out of the country for our Thanksgiving entertainment and dinner. They absolutely enjoyed it! Funny thing was it was pouring rain. I luckily came prepared with rain gear. For those who did not come prepared were provided with yellow rain coats. It's a first come first serve seating; therefore, I suggest beating the tour buses by getting there at an hour to 30 minutes early. The food is setup in a buffet fashion and there are bars that provide beer and limited mixed drinks. Non alcoholic drinks are unlimited. The staff were friendly which is a plus. The food was not, there weren't enough options and I wasn't even tempted to go back for 2nds... that was very disappointing because I love going back for 2nds. The worst part of the evening was when I realized that my friend and I had missed our opportunity to take a picture...The picture that was included in the fee. They made a big announcement to the people that arrived on the buses about getting their pictures taken before before the photographer leaves. NO ONE TOLD US ANYTHING. And when I tried to explain to the manager he refused to believe that the lady at the front would not have told us... Either way, we missed out because they were not open to fixing the problem. AAahahhahahahahah i was the only samoan there and scared the crap out of some tourists with a "cheeehuuu" as the samoan part of the show started :D (i only did it once, as i wouldnt want to give anyone a heart attack ~__~ ) i have lived in hawaii all my life and why i didnt know about this place is beyond me... probably because its more of a tourist attraction... either way allow me to lead you into my experience. lets start with the atmosphere.. it really is a great spot for a luau type deal... it is located on the part of the island that rains the least, so if u by chance get rained on then consider yourself lucky to be touched by the rare rain that hardly kisses the west side floors.. the ocean is right next to the tables giving a great view of the sunset and the sound of waves to accompany the settle breezes.. this location was really on point.. you are also able to watch them take the pig out of the imu and they explain to the tourists of tradition and such.. Now for the drinks.. you're luau ticket has 3 drink tickets attached to it. but when you go to get youre drinks they give you youre drinks in small plastic cups... if you like to drink a little more than others, then buy the cups from the gift shop before you go to the bar... then the bar will fill youre (now larger) cup with what ever liquor you request.. the drinks from my experience are sweet unless you order something like a jack n coke. then idk. The Food.. the food was Basically regular hawaiian food.. the poi has been watered down to spread the poi around enough for everybody. Kalua pig was good my family enjoyed it as well as the chicken long rice. people who reviewed the food part for this place i noticed are expecting something that kalua pig is just not meant to be.... but kalua pig is kalua pig -_- Anyway for the Show lots of energy, they got the crowed involved and everything it was just a great time. Hawaiian dancing, Tahitian Dancing, New Zealands Haka, Samoan slap dancing it was all just a really good time and fun to watch especially when the host keeps everyone laughing =) easily the highlight of the show was the samoan fire knife dancing... everyone enjoys fire =) if youre really a boring person or a "drag" then you will probably think nothing of this place and only see its "fake" huts and tiki stuff.... but look past the props, of course its fake.. all the real hawaiian shit are in museums u assholes -_- ^Excuse my french as it disappoints me to know that ppl are not able to go into an area with an open mind and just enjoy themselves... quite frankly if youre not enjoyin yourself.... youre making the ppl around you not enjoy themselves as well.... but thats all for this place keep an open mind and an open mouth.... lol FOR FOOD XD read more

Saw the pig being pulled out of the imu. Entertainment was audience involved, other than the actual dancing itself was pretty good. Food was okay, not spectacular. Being my second time in Hawaii we thought we would try a different Luau than we did last time. Paradise Cove Luau was brilliant but we really had nothing to compare it to until now. The bus ride was long (flash flooding had seen the highway closed) but Chad really did try hard to keep everyone entertained. I felt sorry for him because after about an hour people had started to get hungry and fidgety and lose focus. When we finally arrived all of the good seating was taken. The seating is set up so that unless you are sitting at the front of the table you will be attempting to view the show through somebody's head. Given that there were 645 people there I can imagine only about 100 of them had a decent view of the show. The food was mass produced and awful. The glass noodle chicken tasted like cold worms, the chicken had more fat than the biggest loser contestants and the cakes were pure sugar. The bread was the highlight of the meal. The show itself was a mess. After seeing 20 different hulas from different places (all looking the exact same) we were a little over it. The fire twirling was the saving grace. The narrator talked over all of the acts and ruined the atmosphere. They have so many audience participation sections that I wondered whether they actually planned on doing anything for themselves. I didnt pay 75 dollars to see a bunch of tourists attempt a hula on 3 separate occasions. The 2 stars are for the drinks; quick service, tasty, strong and helped numb the pain and for the fire twirling. The bus ride home was a lot quicker but after hearing Chad's spiel about changing peoples lives and making people happy I felt like i was watching the Bachelorette. I feel a little cheated after spending my last night in Hawaii at Germaines because the 5 hours could have been spent so much better. Go to Paradise Cove. read more

My husband and I were in Oahu for a conference and wanted to take a few days to have the honeymoon we hadn't had a chance to take yet. We decided we really wanted to do a luau and the conference offered a deal for Germaine's Luau, so we went ahead and did it. It was so worth the money! There were some from the conference who disapproved of the area in which Germaine's has its property, and I will be the first to admit that it was strange driving into an industrial part of the island to attend the luau. However, once you get there and get off the shuttle bus, you can see and hear nothing but the luau gathering and the ocean and can smell nothing but the yummy food being prepared for the buffet. This luau differs from the Paradise Cove Luau we also tried (you can see my other review of them if you like) in that it feels very laid back and homey. It really does have a comfortable back yard feeling that encourages fun and participation. There is plenty of seating and you can find your own. They are generous with drink tickets and offer free noon alcoholic drinks with water available at several stations so you can keep hydrated. The show was terrific and encouraged participation. The friendly feeling got all the crowd in the mood to try new things and risk the stage - great fun! As a musician and dancer, I was very impressed with their professionalism and their ability to bring the audience along with them. The food was good and there was definitely plenty of it with great variety offered. This felt like a true Hawaiian feast, not just something you could get at a buffet style restaurant on the mainland. It was such a delightful experience we would definitely do it again if we have the chance. It's also one of the more inexpensive options we saw. Great job, Germaine's! read more

Okay, being in Hawaii for the first time I had to go to at least one luau while I was here. So walking in Waikiki, I run into a guy trying to convince my wife and I to sit and listen to a time share type presentation. I know what you are thinking. Don't do it. After talking to him for a while. He continued by saying that he would give us tickets to pretty much anything we wanted to do if we watched the presentation. I was like 'cool", hook me up with some luau tickets. He offered Germaine's and I jumped on it. Funny side note. If someone says that a time share presentation is a "no pressure to buy" presentation. That person is full of shit. I wanted those free tickets though. So we did it. Two hours later without too many bruises and dings to my ego. I had the tickets in hand for this evening. At first, I thought about driving to Germaine's but decided to take the bus instead. The luau is about 40 minutes away from Waikiki and the luau lasts around two and half hours. I am glad we did take bus. I would of had to fight rush hour traffic, I probably would of been lost once or twice and I was planning to drink. To top it off, the bus ride was a lot fun. Travis our bus guide was awesome. Not sure if that was his real name though. He told jokes, gave us some points of interest on the way there, gave us tips for enjoying the luau more and told more jokes. He entertained everybody to the luau and back. At soon as we got there. Travis and the other bus guides did double and triple duty. So did the bus drivers. Our bus guide, helped set up the luau feast, went on stage to dance and also did trash duty after everyone ate. So they definitely earn their money. After the bus trip back to your hotel from the luau. Tip your bus guide if they did a good job. They deserve it. The luau itself was really entertaining. The dancers, the music, the singers were great. Everything you would expect in a luau show. It all seemed very authentic with the dancers looking the part. They also show the cooked pig being pulled out of the cooking pit. My wife chose not to see that part. I thought it was cool. The food was good. I tried poi for the first time. It didn't taste like much. It was bland with the consistency of glue. It wasn't bad. I would say "interesting". The pulled pork was good. The highlight was the teriyaki beef. I enjoyed that the most. Before you get to the luau you receive three drink tickets. If you ran out of drink tickets. The drinks cost around three to five bucks depending on what you get. Our mai tais were super strong. They didn't taste too good but they got the job done. My wife and I are drinking soldiers, lol. One thing you need to be aware of is that there are mosquitos out there. Bring some bug repellent. My right leg got bit pretty bad out there. Luckily, my wife asked a nice couple if she could borrow there bug repellent. They were totally cool about it and my wife stopped the bugs from biting me further. Didn't mean to write so much but there is a lot going on in this luau. Definitely a lot of fun. Totally worth going to. Lastly, they take your picture when you first get there. On the bus ride home, they sell the pictures to you if you want them. You get a 5X7 and a 6X8 for $20. This was truly a disappointment. This is NOT a Luau. This is a buffet and a less than good one at best. I've had a better time at Spires. The people were pretty nice. There were about 800 people there for this buffet dinner and show, according to the staff. Seating sucks, the view was horrible, I think the show was okay, ... what I could see of it! My expectation of a luau was more like 50 to 80 people sitting on the beach kind of around a bonfire having a BBQ and watching dancers! This is NOT anything like what we experienced. Save yourself some heartache and disappointment and go somewhere else! Don't waste your money here! read more

We bought our tickets at HawaiiDiscount.com, and I am glad we did. I don't think the food + show is worth the normal full price. On a positive note, the staff is friendly and my niece/nephew loved going up on the stage to dance. The staff walks around throughout the show and beforehand to keep it friendly. "Funsize" and Wally were quite entertaining. Unfortunately, I would say there are more negatives than positive: - There was a lot of talking, and I felt like I missed a chunk of the show waiting in the buffet line. Moreover, I've had tastier food at L&L's in California. The drinks were meh. Funny note: I thought the little ramekin of lomi lomi salmon was the salsa to be served on top of a salmon filet further down the line. - The sand/dirt is really dirty and my feet felt filthy throughout the show. The tables are not comfortable, but I understand they are going for the family picnic ambiance. - You can tell the performers are good at what they do individually, but the format of the show is not really exciting. I would say this luau is a solid 3-stars. It was okay, we had some fun, but I believe there is better on the island. read more
