I absolutely love this new location on Ridge Street. It's so easy to buzz through the drive-thru, get a refreshing caffeine beverage before crossing the Clark Bridge. My current favorite is a seasonal offering, Cinnamon Honey Latte. If I'm stopping before noon, it's always hot and after 12 noon, it's iced. I love the blending of cinnamon & honey. It's a sweet treat, but not overly sweet. If you need something savory to eat, I am a huge fan of their, Jalapeño Sausage Biscuit. It's delicious and easy to eat while driving. If you want something sweet, you cannot go wrong with one of their scones. Again, easy to eat on the road. If your co-pilot is your four legged best friend, be sure to get them a free Pup-Cup. I love germanias drinks and it's always fun to try something new. The drive through made my experience quick. This is actually for the Godfrey location. My husband was in the hospital for 12 weeks and belts had to tighten. I allowed myself one indulgence - a coffee every time I went to the hospital. I spent over $800 on coffee and about $300 more on cash tips. I do not regret it; however something happened around mid-January. The chocolate drizzle became meager as did the whipped cream. The chocolate drizzle was on the side of the cup before (flavoring the coffee) and it began to just be a tiny dollop on top of the tiny dollop of whipped cream. My order was wrong 3x (I get the same thing each time) and I was nicely told that they were sorry (no attempt to fix it). When I asked what was going on with the chocolate, I was told that it only goes on top but if I want it on the side to request it. So I did that the next two times. The third time I was told - at the register, after I paid and tipped - that they cannot put the syrup on the side. I buy 100+ coffees and they are perfect. The next 20 have been a waste of money. Please understand that I understand a business can set their rules of what they will do and not do. The customer is not always right. However, this feels like bait and switch and it is deeply disappointing. This coffee ritual brought me peace and a bit of joy at one of the worst times of my life. Now I find it to be overpriced coffee with mediocre service. The ambience is charming. There are some tables and it has a coffeehouse vibe. It's clean and attractive. Service was very friendly, but has become less so in the last month and a half. It was always a little on the slow side compared to its peers, but that's not the end of the world if you plan for it. It is a local business, so their machines do break and they run out of certain sizes of cups and they do not change their menu at the same time they change their offerings, but if you are like me then you don't mind that too much if you can shop local. read more

I generally enjoy Germania's coffee, when I'm in the mood for something sweeter. If you're looking for Starbucks-like drinks, this is the local place to go. The baristas are also super friendly. The building itself is cute with a relaxed vibe, and it's a really great place to do work or bring friends. There is a communal area at floor level, or there are rooms upstairs to go sit and hang out. I haven't been to the outdoor patio lately, but I remember it having a great view. They do have food, but it's not always my favorite. I was there a few weeks ago and bought some mini muffins. The portion size was good, but the muffins were awful. The batter clearly wasn't mixed well, as two of the mini muffins tasted like pure salt/baking soda, and I had to spit them out. I'm sure this isn't the norm, as I've had good pretzels and other snacks there. But overall I'm not going there for food. read more

First off this is for the drive-through in East Alton. That one is not on here so I'm banking on this possibly being the same owners. Well I used to say Germania had the best hot chocolate anywhere. Went there tidy at 5pm Sunday Macy 16th...,ordered two small hot chocolates, one xtra hot (because often, regardless of location, the hot chocolate is just above lukewarm sometimes). The temp on mine was ok, my sons was barely lukewarm, but BOTH of them were terrible. Not even remotely like it usually is. It tasted like they were made with water or skim milk and not even 2%. Typically it's so rich and creamy as if it's made with all whole milk. We both dumped them out. Not even worth my time to go back and complain. read more

Beautiful cozy coffee shop with a rustic feel. The look of the place online is definitely what drew me into this place. On my first visit I walked up to the counter the young lady working just kinda looked at me no greeting. It was my first time so I looked at the merch then started to read the menu. She didn't offer any suggestions or ask if I had any questions. I selected my coffee and then she asked me if I had a rewards number I told her no. She didn't ask if I wanted to join or the incentives of being in the rewards program. Just wasn't a warm vibe and the coffee wasn't good enough for me to come back to that. read more

While in town, I wanted to do my best to support local businesses. My trip to Germania was well worth it. I have literally ran past this location and was intrigued by their drive up/drive thru concept of ordering, which appears to be well functioning. I was charmed by the interior which appears to be an old bank. The barista was very knowledgeable and recommended the limited time only Ube Latte, which I got frozen. It was very tasty and lasted a long time. I took my latte with my shopping on the Parkway and it lasted through several aisles of looking around. I'm looking forward to checking out the craft beer on a future visit. read more

I absolutely love Germania! The GHB latte is lovely, but if you're looking for something exciting I'd recommend checking their seasonal drink menu out. Their beer options weren't available when I went last, but the coffee is still well worth the trip. The staff is always very friendly and very accommodating for allergies (they also have several non-dairy options available which is a blessing in itself). Cofree was not the problem. I ordered a small cup of coffee through the drive through. I received the coffee in two paper cups stacked together with a plastic lid on the top cup and cardboard sleeve. The lid became dislodged when I grabbed the sleeve. The coffee leaked out and was very hot on my hand causing me to nearly drop the whole cup. When I got to my destination a few blocks away, the lid would not stay on if you carried the cup using the sleeve. I had to carry it by the rim and hand underneath. Probably using these cups because they are more environmentally friendly. I applaud the attempt, but it appears the cups and the rolled top edge cannot stay rigid enough once real hot liquid is poured in. I went back later and the employee said, yes the cups get "soggy" with the hot coffee and that is why they serve with two cup. I sense it is a known problem. If so, I suggest considering getting better cups. read more

They have coffee, tea, craft beer, and a few bakery choices. We went for the beer choices. The staff member who checked us in, and who I assume was new, had trouble with every credit card we tried. Hopefully, not all of our cards will have been charged! The concept is simple-get a wristband, scan at tap, pour the amount you want. Every single person in our group, including one who has experience with this, had trouble with the pours. Every pull was at least half foam, except one of the ciders. Two of the ten taps were empty, and nobody replaced the kegs. Several of us were "cut off" way before the published limit. It's a cute little venue, nice view of the river, but I doubt if I'll visit anytime soon. Seems like our experience was not the norm, so hopefully, this was just a "one-off". read more

It was excellent! And the thing I like about this place, some folks might consider a drawback. There weren't a million different flavored coffees, but more basic ones. They've only been open three days, but I'm so glad they're here! Such a beautiful building and a great location near downtown/middletown/the bridge. The space is expertly decorated and the two staff members were chipper. I ordered a large black iced coffee and it was perfect! Their prices hover right below the coffee chains, and I'd much rather support local! This will be my morning go-to on the way to work. My review is for the Godfrey location across from Lewis and Clark College. Excellent coffee, really tasty. Similar prices as other coffee shops, on average $5 a beverage. However, be ready to sit in the drive thru for 30 minutes before placing an order and getting your drink. Once you enter the drive thru line, you cannot get out. You are trapped until you place your order. By the time I got to where I can place my order, I didn't even want a coffee from this establishment anymore because I was so frustrated with the slowness of service. For reference my visit was midday on a Wednesday. read more

The best ice coffee i have ever had hands down. The GBH espresso on ice and cinnamon roll was fantastic. The beer line up was pretty impressive. They give you a bracelet and you just tap it on the beer you like and pour your own drinks. Pretty cool set up. They even have a cool outdoor seating area. read more
