But turmoil has come over the past year and it's not good. Corporate Franchise Ace called Abbott's bought the shop and made it part of a east coast chain, and it's affected the experience negatively. Staff turnover has been very high, customer service is lackluster. One guy today couldn't bother to say "excuse me" while I was looking over some items and he just had to get to one of the items in front of me. Manners is seriously lacking with some of their staff. There's no clear leadership in the store - other than corporate from New York state dictating sales. Whomever is running the place needs to hire better people - more training so their more knowledgable about their products, and maybe people that are a bit more people oriented. One cashier lady is so morose I've come to hate going to her. A couple of the old crew is still around but with the turnover rate, and the lack of corporate care for service, I don't think they'll be around much longer. I've always placed Suburban Ace (now Costello Ace) as my First Choice for hardware needs, but with lackluster staff, poor product knowledge and a lack of customer service, that preference is fading fast. Home Depot is a little bit further from my workshop but the people there are, overall, better now than those at Costello Ace. Damn shame and I hope they get their act together.

He knew immediately pricing, appointment times, delivery policy etc. I found this to not be true of some other companies. For example, upon calling some of the others the person answering the telephone did not have current prices or know their companies policy on minimum delivery amount etc. They had to have someone call me back. Weird and very annoying. Who has time for that. So I appreciated Town & Country's quick and friendly response. I just received my delivery yesterday. The delivery person was quick and left my bill and a small gift of a nice mug and magnet and company info at the door. Very nice touch! Will use this company again in the future I am sure.

I use a remote gauge and it's pretty accurate, and I have no issue doing it this way. This gives them an idea how much fuel we're burning and allows them to get me on the delivery schedule. With any snow or ice storm, I clear the driveway, our sidewalk and I remember to clear a path to the tank. This last storm (1/25/2026) was brutal, a lot of sleet and freezing rain. The driver showed up as scheduled on Feb 3rd and was thrilled to see a clean spot on the street for him to park the truck, with a clear path to the tank. And hats off to the delivery guys, they're awesome!

Economy Propane called our neighbor 2 days later said they were not coming because there was snow on the street. There is snow on every street in the city. The Federal authorities have issued an emergency order allowing fuel to be delivered on snowy or icy roads. Economy Propane said they didn't care even though our street is pool table flat. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY IF YOU DEPEND ON PROPANE.

The initial delivery of the tanks was coordinated by the generator installation company, however, from the day of tank delivery up until now everything has been fantastic. Dennis, the delivery driver who brought, installed, and filled the tanks up was very helpful. He answered all of my questions and took great care to install the tanks in a manner that was safe and in the location that I needed. When dealing with the staff that has handled everything else when I've called, I've been incredibly impressed. I initially spoke to Lynn, who just like Dennis, patiently answered all of my numerous questions. She explained the process of getting us set up with our own account and what to expect for the next steps in the process. Now that everything is up and running, I had the pleasure of speaking to Mary yesterday. Again, Mary was very helpful, professional, but also very friendly and personable. Had a guy show up and tell me if I didn't establish an account and sign a contract then he had to turn off my gas service into the house. Even though the gas was OURS, and paid in full. Not very ethical, and not a good business practice. They claim they left notice, but I never got it. Maybe a letter, or a proper explanation of your services would have been appropriate? You know, 'Hi, how are you? We would like your business, this is how it all works...' kind of thing. I do remember someone coming to my door a few weeks back, asking about our oil or gas. I do not remember if they were from Suburban or not, but I was NOT told that my gas would or even could be turned of at that point in time. I just assumed that they were trying to sell me their services, and were making a face to face visit to win me over. I was not given any papers, or documents stating this either. No warning whatsoever, just someone showing up at my house saying 'sign a contract with us or have your gas turned off'. You don't win new customers with threats! Debbie was making it very hard to want to stick it out with them. She insulted me, put me down for not knowing about the whole process, and essentially was leading me to believe that I had no other choice but to choose them. So I inquired today about what they would be basing my credit off of, if I decided to go with another company and they had to come get their tanks, and pay me for the gas that is inside of them. How would they price it per gallon? I got an email back stating "This will be forwarded to our company legal department to handle. Someone will be in-touch with you". Now, just one last food for thought. Look up United Propane on the better business bureau. Or google them, and call the number listed. Someone will answer the phone and say, "Suburban Propane, how can I help you?" Apparently United is the same as Suburban. Now you see that F rating for United? Yea, I wish I saw that from the beginning. I would have had them take their tanks right then and there! Any company with an F rating on bbb is bad news.
