Lamb Ossobuco with butternut squash couscous

The bartenders were very friendly and the drinks were great. I loved the short rib, it doesnt have a gravy with it, so I asked for the stew/sauce it is cooked in. They gave me a side of it and it was excellent! My husband loved the lamb and the truffle fries were great. We were bummed no piano player showed up, but the food, drinks and great service means we will be back.

I've never had the food here because we only come for after dinner drinks so I can only speak to that. When you come for drinks they just seat you at the bar. The bartender always notices us after 5 minutes so the wait is not long for drinks. The drinks always come out really good. Not too strong but doesn't feel like the skimp out on alcohol either. The ambiance is really nice. It's pretty quiet and romantic

My husband took me here for my birthday dinner. We did not have a reservation, but were still seated promptly. We were getting dinner late after having attended another event, so there wasn't much of a crowd. The restaurant is on the smaller side, but decorated in a very opulent art deco style straight out of the 20s. The aesthetic is very classy without trying too hard. They had a live pianist, who provided a wonderful musical backdrop to their aesthetic. Our server, Kira, was very welcoming and attentive, she took very good care of us and was very accommodating. The cocktail menu features a variety of "vintage" cocktails as well as a selection of wine and beer. I got an impeccable dirty vodka martini. The menu had a variety of dishes. Quite unfortunately they were out of certain entrees, but that just leaves incentive to try to go back to try them. For our main entrees, I got the salmon, and my husband got the Osso Bucco. The food was excellent and well plated, and it was a nice intimate dining experience for a celebratory meal.

This was definitely a hidden gem and surprise of how layback and relaxed it was this evening walking in we went there for dinner and they did not missed a key with the food, service and entertainment. We booked reservations for dinner and our options were dinning room or music. The main difference is that music you are up close to where the musician is playing and that can definitely add uniqueness to the night. Services was very good and friendly don't feel like you have to dress a certain way here they welcome all style and are server Ava was amazing she was so attentive to make sure we had a good night out and she made some good recommendations for food. Where she did mention that the food was all homemade including like the dressing on salads and croutons. The food options were good and not bad at price it was a range of $24-30 + dollars for entrees and the portions were just a right amount we both got braised meat. I got braised short with mashed potatoes and candied carrots it was balanced of sweet and savory with the braised short rib nicely cooked and full of flavor. They also had live music playing this night they had pianist playing some classics music with some jazz tune to it and that was definitely a good touch to add on the date night and we went on less busy day. Which was nice due to it being more upscale and perfect spot to get some drinks and good bites of food. This is perfect spot for date night if you want to go upscale and enjoy some live entertainment and have a more romantic experience or even just a relaxing night evening.

We had an amazing NYE dinner at Gershwin's! We managed to snag one of the last reservations. We were sat in the back where it was a little chilly but honestly, I expect that in the older buildings in Norfolk and always bring a sweater with me. We have a wonderful server, I wish I remembered her name. She was attentive and very helpful when I mentioned I was gluten free. She made sure everything I had was "safe" for me to eat. She warned us that due to the busy night and a small kitchen, the food may come out a bit slow. We were fine with that and didn't see it being a problem at all throughout the night. We started the night off with drinks, I had a whiskey sour (SO GOOD!) and my husband had a smoked old fashioned that she smoked tableside. We also had appetizers, I enjoyed a smoked salmon spread, this does come with toasted bread but I had veggies and my husband had "Red Fish Grill" Fried Oyster and Shrimp which he said was fantastic. They were out of duck that night, so instead my husband ordered the Steak Au Poivre Filet Mignon and had no complaints. I ordered the Glazed Beef Short Rib and it was divine! It included a side of mashed potatoes and candied carrots which were perfect accompaniment. We closed out the night with desert, because of course! I enjoyed a creme brulee that was also fired tableside and my husband had the layered chocolate cake. He enjoyed it and it looked delicious. We had a few more drinks and called it a night! Overall no complaints and we will most definitely be back. I definitely recommend checking this hidden gem out.

I visited Gershwin's during the Norfolk restaurant week. The pairing menu for restaurant week seemed to have something for everyone! Upon arrival I was told that it was a reservation only diner service but I could take a seat at the bar. The bar was empty and I planed to order a few drinks so that worked for me. The bar manager (Madeline) was very attentive and took extra care when creating my smoked woodford old fashioned. Overall I give Gershwins a 5/5 as the 1920s vibe, music and lighting really make it a unique experience. I thought the food was exceptional but you can certainly notice that they could use a few more team members on their staff to make things flow easier.

Yesterday we were walking downtown and decided to stop in for dinner. Gershwin's has a wonderful ambiance. We particularly enjoyed the live piano music! I ended up having a French 75 to drink. It was great! We ordered the escargot for an appetizer and it was so flavorful! It took a little while to get our food but it was worth a little wait because everything was excellent. For my main course I got the chicken & mushroom ravioli. It was rich in flavor and absolutely delicious! We will definitely be back. I would definitely recommend checking out Gershwin's for an overall wonderful dining experience!

Nice establishment. Staff is rude, both hostess and waiter. Food was tasty, but way over rated for the price paid. The is one of those places that you go to and leave saying "well at least I tried it and now I know" I have no desire to return or recommend to anyone.

This is really a 3.5 but unfortunately that option does not exist. I really enjoyed this place! By far the best spot I've seen in my short 2 weeks in Norfolk. Cocktails were amazing super big shoutout to our bartender (super sweet woman with sister locs) the drinks came at a good rate and I think the prices were fair. The dinner menu sounded great and the price point was perfect! I like the casual dress code although with the beautiful atmosphere people still dressed up. The music was at an acceptable volume and still allowed for conversation. The only reason this didn't hit a 5 in my book was although the food was yummy the time it took to come from the kitchen was a bit too long additionally our food was a bit cold. Not cold in the context of cheap reheated food just cold like the entrees were sitting out and perhaps not under a warming lamp. The venue itself was beautiful though... looked like a scene right out of great gatsby. I could see this being a staple date night restaurant in my future. For entrees we had the braised lamb and chicken and mushroom ravioli. Unfortunately they were all out of the duck confit for us to try but we will certainly be back. Unisex restrooms. Restrooms were a little bit messy but not atrocious.

I've passed this place many times over the years. Fiance decided to make a reservation for Valentines Day. We had a 5:30 reservation and the table the host put us was close to the door. We did NOT like that seat. Thankfully, we voiced our displeasure and were moved slightly further in. The seat wasn't much better but they brought us champagne on the house so I forgave them. This place is know for their cocktails, with good reason. I loved my cocktail and my fiance was impressed by their whiskey list. The food we ordered was good. The only thing we didn't like was their lobster bisque. I'm not sure what region that recipe is from but I've never see lobster bisque like that before. I do intend to return for more cocktails.

The lemon drop martini was one of the highlights of the night -- smooth, refreshing, and perfectly balanced between sweet and tart without tasting overly sugary. Definitely one of the better lemon drops I've had lately. The Black Spice wings were packed with flavor. Crispy on the outside, juicy inside, and coated with a sauce that had the perfect mix of sweet heat and Caribbean-style seasoning. They were addictive. The lobster egg rolls were another standout. They were crispy, stuffed generously, and paired with a sauce that complemented the seafood really well without overpowering it. The lobster flavor actually came through, which isn't always the case at a lot of places. The cabbage was tender and seasoned with a tasty spice which was delicious. On top of the food, the atmosphere was stylish and energetic with great music and a fun crowd. Perfect spot for date night, brunch, or drinks with friends. Service slowed a little once the restaurant got busy, but overall the experience was worth it. The chef even blessed us with a sampling of a new catfish egg roll he is thinking of putting on the menu, and like everything else it was amazing and worthy of menu placement. Would definitely come back to try more of the menu

I called ahead of time and asked if they took walk ins and was told they didn't, so I made reservations for 6pm. With this restaurant being located off Granby St., I figured I'd better find the location first before finding parking. Upon arrival, I almost drove right past it. The only sign they had was a "Black Spice" sign in the window, which was very easy to miss. Thankfully, we found a close parking garage and it was a short walk to the restaurant. We were seated as soon as we walked in and the place was practically empty. Before getting settled, we asked if we could sit at the tables with a booth (for comfortable seating) but was told that those tables were reserved for parties of 3 or more. We understood, but funny enough, there were two (yes, two) ladies sitting at a nearby table with a booth! Insert side eye lol! We started with drinks and appetizers. The drinks were okay but not very strong. We ordered the CrabMac and the Lobster Egg Rolls. The CrabMac was good but the Egg Rolls seemed to miss the mark a bit, for me. I think they would've been better without the cheese. For our entrees, my friend ordered the Salmon and I ordered the Braised Short Ribs. My friend said her Salmon was okay but I wasn't a fan of the Short Ribs. They were covered with a very interesting, bbq sauce that I didn't quite enjoy. I've ordered Short Ribs before but I've never had them with such a thick, bbq sauce. The Mashed Potatoes were garlicky and very tasty and the Sautéed Spinach was so good, I ordered another side of it. Once we finished eating, we asked for the check and my bill came up to $91.80! I just knew they had given me the wrong bill lol! They automatically added 15% Gratuity on the bill without our knowledge. Our server was great so I was going to tip either way, it just would've been nice to be notified ahead of time. Unfortunately, there wasn't anything I ate that would justify spending that much lol! The staff were very nice but I'm sure I won't be returning again. By the way, no one ever came to sit at the table with the booth, so we definitely could've sat there. SMH!

After roughly 90 minutes of waiting, multiple delays, and learning that several items were unavailable, we decided to pay for what we had received the two Sapporos, the shrimp sandwich, and the Vang rolls, which came to about $70. This is exciting for Norfolk Waterside the second third time around... hopefully it's going to be here to stay. The Harbour Club is definitely going to be a special asset to the District. Very sexy in here! We dined in for their happy hour. We were able to check in with one of the party host for an extended happy hour instead of it being until 7 pm with our yellow wristbands it was extended until 9 p.m. Drink specials only! Happy hour included draft specials, Margaritas were $5 and well drinks I believe for $4 and wine was $4 as well no food specials. This restaurant only features tapas so it's basically meant to come: chill, take a bite of something and just enjoy the atmosphere. I'm not sure if they play music but I can see where as they would push the lounge table and chair's back or take up the chairs and tables and have an open dance floor So excited to see how the night life will be in here. We arrived a little after 5pm... traffic was crazy on Waterside Dr. The atmosphere oozes high energy!! We sat at the bar (large bar) where our bartender was Katharine AKA Kate and she made us some grrrrreat Margaritas!! She's legit see her if you're in here!! The restrooms are on the outside of the restaurant so it's a short walk. If you want to dine on the patio you can do that as well. The Baja tacos which I had were absolutely good I didn't know they had onions on them but other than that they were still good. The harbor sliders they were very good as well with a handful of chips that I believe are homemade... cost $50 so you can't beat that looking forward. TVs are positioned around the perimeter of the club. And there are two bars located inside this club. The wait staff seems a little scattered but they managed to care for all. Parking is available via: the garages, meter parking. The food did take a lonnnnng to come. I'm not not sure why. While time was passing by we were high off of the energy in the club! Tapas and a full bar can be found here... mostly seafood. So much enthusiasm and high energy in the atmosphere where as time went by super fast but still the food should have came out a little bit sooner than what it did.

This spot definitely got a nice date night vibe to it. Darkly lit. Super chill hostess but limited seating. There are maybe 6 to 8 tables total including a L shape bar that you can pull up to which is exactly where we sat. The bartender was really on point the night we visited. Immediately took our order, gave us a quick perusal of the drinks, and then promptly poured three different types of spirits, a wine for my first brother, a vodka and cranberry for my second and a whiskey flight that they had on the special for myself. We enjoyed all three. In terms of food, we ordered a couple of different appetizers, including the pizza. And I actually was hoping we were going to order dinner because all of the entrees that we saw hit the bar around us looked fantastic. We ended up connecting with a really cool local business owner by the name of Sonny, who is also at the bar having a bit of dinner before heading back to his Shop. That made the overall night even better. This is definitely a spotI will be checking out when I'm back in town.

Our server was amazing. There was a small delay in getting our first round of drinks to the table, and he took it off our bill without us having to say a word. It was very generous. We were on the patio which is covered but airy, and perfectly spaced so you don't feel crammed with other guests! We ordered the Charcuterie, crispy octopus, and the Four Eleven Salad. For main entree I got the Filet, and my partner had the Pork. Everything was cooked to perfection and delicately layered with flavor! It will NOT disappoint. Be aware of smaller portion sizes. They offered complimentary bites throughout, including delicious cheddar biscuits, and an Anniversary cake.

It was a little chilly tonight, but I imagine the outdoor seating would be perfect on a warmer evening. We didn't have a reservation, but luckily we were seated within seconds. The space itself is on the smaller side, but it's thoughtfully designed and perfect for a cozy date night. Every employee who passed by greeted us, which made the atmosphere feel especially welcoming. We started with the octopus, served with potato foam, pickled pear, and chorizo. For entrées, he ordered the duck and I had the pork bolognese. Both dishes were full of flavor and cooked perfectly. We also ordered drinks. I do wish they had come out a bit earlier so we could enjoy them sooner, but the selection was impressive. We chose the bartender's choice, which was a really fun experience. The waitress asks a few questions, and based on your answers the bartender creates a drink they think you'll love. We were too full for dessert, though they did offer four different options. Overall, we were really happy we tried this restaurant and will definitely be back.
