    Grilled reuben and pasta salad
    Cheri M.

Came here for lunch. It's a sports type bar and grill. We were seated right away. Lots of sandwiches and appetizers on their menu. It was hard for me to pick. The food came out fairly fast. I ordered a grilled Reuben. It was very good. Big bread slices. I had pasta salad on the side, which was good. Tangy and creamy. I would probably come here again if I'm in the area.

Gert's is a solid little bar. It has a nice sports bar feel to it. I came in at sat at the bar. Heather made sure I was taken well care of. I ordered a drink and a mushroom swiss burger. The drink was out fast and the burger was close behind. The burger and fries were cooked well. The burger was juicy and the topping were all fresh tasting. The crinkle cut fries were a snappy golden brown. It was delicious, but way more food than I could eat! The portions are massive! Good service, good food!

Service - good Food - consistently good for years Ambiance - its a sports bar Been here since 2005 or before. Went on April 4, 2025 after a long hiatus. Lunch special, 1/2 sammich with soup in a bread bowls, and a side. Got the 1/2 mc gertie sammich... The McGertie - Smoked turkey, bacon, lettuce, cheddar cheese, and parmesan peppercorn. With an Open volcano 3" tall bread bowl serving of cheese soup - excellent pairing! Filling, great combination for lunch, did i say filling! Side o pickle is a full pickle, crunchy, sliced in half, lengthwise. Think Claussem, not Vlassic....

Solid sports bar with nice staff and lots of TVs. Nothing super fancy about the ambiance of Gert's, but they have a large menu of mostly sandwiches that'll get the job done. My grandma absolutely loves this place. She's not known for having the most adventurous palate, but my gosh does she love her cream cheese. Must be genetic. She always orders the TAC (turkey, avocado, and cream cheese) with extra cream cheese so we split that sandwich with the California Kid (literally the exact same sandwich, but on a croissant). Tough to screw up a sandwich with those ingredients. We both enjoyed a lovely lunch, but the food was just a notch above average for me.

I went here for lunch today and received excellent service. The place is very close to my work, but this was only my second time coming. I had a very hearty lunch for the reasonable price of $20 after tip. I got a half sandwich (The Garden + Turkey - Sprouts), a cup of chili, and a bag of bbq chips. It was a good amount of food. This is a great place to hang out and there were plenty of screens to watch games if that is what you were interested in.

Even the best bar food is rarely ever great, and seldom even good - but hopefully it's not terrible either. Gert's food lies somewhere in this grey area. The cheese soup tasted like a cross between cheese soup and queso. The fried chicken salad was made with frozen chicken tenders like you would get in the grocery store, shredded lettuce that was probably intended for their hamburgers, and I think shredded American cheese rather than the cheddar I was hoping for. The pasta salad was 98% pasta and probably 2% salad. Everything was "OK", but definitely not great, and nothing you would ever crave when you're hungry. On top of the food, the TVs that line the walls are very inconsistent - some looked sharp and others looked old and faded, including the dimly lit large projection screen in the main viewing spot. On the bright side, our server Heather was a ball of fire, literally a blur as she moved from table to table, deftly addressing the needs of all her customers. She's one of the best servers we're had in recent memory. Heather is the reason my score is a 3 rather than a 2. I don't drink so I can't speak for the bar, for all I know if may be quite good. Considering they had a decent crowd on hand I'm guessing the drinks are the main attraction. But if you want to know what bar food tastes like, Gert's would make a good measuring stick for you.

My husband and I went to Gertz Grill for the first time upon recommendations from plenty of people that we didn't even really know. We got the club on Texas toast and the Smoke Stack on rye and both were PHENOMENAL. We were sad we didn't order the soup and the owner brought us out some potato soup to have and try and it was AMAZING. Service 10/10 food 10/10

The food here is pretty good, it's bar food for sure but it's decent. Our schedule has been weird so it's been about a month since we were here last but, we do tend to go here a lot, especially on the weekends. This last visit however, we went to lunch on Wednesday. I attempted to order from the back of the menu. Not only did I forget but, I overlooked the fact they don't serve the items on the back of the menu until after 2pm Monday through Friday. Apparently this upset our servicer. She was short and snippy. So I took a few more minutes to order. When she came back my husband ordered French fries which again are part of the items not offered after 2pm. Again she was snippy when showing my husband the item that were available with his sandwich. The food was delivered by a different server which isn't a big deal. The problem was is that our server didn't check back with us for over 10 minutes, and my sandwich needed mustard. Had they been busy or she At least appeared to be trying I would have understood. The fact of the matter is she visited with staff add bussed tables instead. Yes table do need to be bussed, but there were a lot of empty tables. She barely looked our direction so flagging her down wasn't an option. I did stare at her for those 10 minutes but, apparently we were invisible. She finally came to the table when I put my nearly empty cup at the end of the table so I could get a refill. We do like the food here, but like won't be back for a little while. It's too soon for me to end up getting her as my server again. Despite her behavior, we did tip her. Granted it was only 10% vs the 20% we typically leave. It was clear she didn't care about tips.

Gert's Is Our Lunch Time Treat For Our Work "Lunch Committee"! We've Been Here Twice And Both Times We Weren't Greeted But Decided To Seat Ourselves. Once We Were Seated The Waitress Did Come Over And She Was Very Kind And Helpful. Gert's Menu Consists Of An Array Of Sandwiches And A Few Soup Options That Come In A Bread Bowl. You Can Grab A Large Portion Of A Half Sandwich Combo With Soup And A Side For $12.29 Which Is Why Our Lunch Committee Enjoys This Place! I Ordered The TAC, Regular Potato Chips And The Southwest Enchilada Soup And It Was Perfect! The TAC Was Hot And Toasty And The Soup Was Creamy, Cheesy And Well Seasoned! There Is Enough Food If To Take To Go If You Wanted To. I Like The Relaxed Vibe Of Gert's And Feel Comfortable Going Again. The Place Seems Like It Can Be Fun During Game Days Especially Since The Drinks Are A Reasonable Price. Thank You Gert's!

My friend recommended this place to me so I went with him and some other buddies to determine if I could still be friends w him based on his recommendation. It was a fri night so we did expect it to be busy and it was fairly crowded. We were still able to find plenty of seating. I believe the crowd are made up of locals because the waitress who was working spoke to most of them as if she knew them. However she also looked very tired because she was the only one on the floor working. The food all came out fresh and hot and tasted great. it had good flavor but not overly salty either as some bar/grills can be. I was definitely in the mood for a sandwich and soup bread bowl so it worked out great. Its like going to Panera but being able to order beer with additional bar food options. Overall it provided a good atmosphere to get some bar food AND deli food and I will definitely be back

Gert's had the feel of a neighborhood sports bar with plenty of loyal customers known by the wait staff. I enjoyed a pretty good sandwich and fast service during my dine-in lunch. My "angel" sandwich on choice of bread and with choice of side ($9.29) was served just four minutes after I ordered at the table. The sandwich was nicely sized and stood 2-1/4" tall. I enjoyed the generous portion of premium, tasty, white turkey meat slices (no low rent deli slices) - mmm! The wheat bread was sliced thicker than normal and toasted - nice. I liked the thick slice of cheese, and the fresh tomatoes, but the menu called for sprouts on the sandwich and I received shredded lettuce. I'm not usually a macaroni salad fan because it can be rather bland, but this salad was pretty darn tasty. Of course, there were plenty of TVs (I counted 13 including the big screen), a large, horseshoe shaped bar, a game area, and background sound coming from the TVs, which were tuned to a sports channel. They offer a pretty good happy hour M-F 3-6 PM. I also noticed a small patio out front. I wish the lunch prices were lower, but overall, pretty good.

It's a lovely restaurant. It seems a bit out of the way with mostly corporate buildings around. The restaurant has a nice modern aesthetic. I like the purple hyacinths hanging from the ceiling in one area. It was very steady for an off time in the afternoon. First, our server Olivia was amazing! Very attentive and we were extra needy this day so I really appreciate her patience. We even dropped food on the floor. Oops! She was so nice about it and cleaned it up immediately. We had customizations and extra requests. No problem for her! She went above and beyond. I hope she sees this because she was such a joy! The food was also very good. We started with the biscuits and one peach compote and one blueberry. Both were yummy. They were traditional drop biscuits and I love a good biscuit! We also had an order of fried green tomatoes on goat cheese grits. You get 4 very large slices. I could only eat one. The grits were yummy but there were not enough of them in relation to the friend green tomatoes. They were also encased by a sauce. I'm guessing a remoulade. I don't really care for remoulade sauce so I'd have removed it had I known it came with the dish. It really overpowered the goat cheese taste in the grits. The tomatoes were very al dente and I would have preferred them cooked a bit more. The dish was still good but my least favorite and I would normally love anything with those ingredients and fried green tomatoes are a favorite so the remoulade (or whatever it was) sauce was a real problem for me. I would definitely get them again without the sauce because they are great otherwise. But that sauce just overpowers every other flavor! I got the chicken tender dinner and others in my party got the bone in fried chicken. Everyone liked their chicken. The tenders were a big size. 4 of them but I hit 2 meals out of them. Everyone liked the Parmesan rosemary potatoes. I really liked the bacon green beans. The only side we weren't impressed with was the Mac and cheese unfortunately. The cheese was not good. We got coffees and a chai. All of them were very good. A bit pricey for the amount you get though. Even with the smaller complaints, I'd still give th a 5 because of the outstanding service and the dishes were overall very good and large portions. We will definitely return and I hope to try out a breakfast item next visit!

We started off with seasonal drink which was a strawberry mimosa and oh my these were delicious. Fruit forward and refreshing. Next we had fried green tomatoes which you rarely find in KC so I was excited. These were done very differently but so good. Breading was crispy and not overly flavored so you could still taste the tomato. Next we had their shrimp and grits. This is why they did not get a 5 star. The shrimp tasted like frozen shrimp from the grocery store. The grits were just ok honestly it was missing something. We make this dish at home and I probably have too high expectations. Also it was served in cast iron and the cast iron skillet was in bad shape as well. Service: our server was very good. Prompt and friendly.

Very tasty. Crunchy on the outside with a little heat and we asked for blue cheese to dip it in. Yum She ordered the lock, shock, and wrap. I ordered the Halloween town birria pork sandwich. They were both excellent. We ended up splitting it so we could try both. I liked them both, not sure which one I liked better. I liked that they made the wrap a little crispy on the outside. The waitress was very attentive and came by multiple times to make sure we were good and if we needed anything. I wish I wasn't so full because I would've ordered dessert. Next time. Unfortunately, the experience with the hostess and the manager completely changed our overall impression. Every time I've come here, I've gotten off-putting vibes from the hostess, Nancy (older woman with short gray hair), and this visit confirmed it. We were told there would be a 10-minute wait for an outdoor table, which was totally fine. When we were seated, it was at the far end where it was quite windy. Not a huge issue, but I did notice two open tables with heaters nearby. Thinking ahead, I tried to see if we could move to one of those tables. While I was looking for someone to ask, another party was seated at one of them, leaving just one open. When I finally found a hostess, she told me I needed to speak with Nancy. Nancy then told me I'd have to wait another 10 minutes for that table--which seemed odd, but I agreed. I stepped aside to wait, and she immediately seated another party at the exact table I had just asked about. That was frustrating and honestly felt dismissive. We were then seated at another table without a heater, and we decided to just move forward and enjoy our evening. We ordered drinks and appetizers and planned to possibly play Mahjong if it seemed appropriate. We were very mindful not to take up a table unnecessarily, so before starting, we asked our waitress if it would be okay. She said absolutely. Over the next couple of hours, we ordered drinks, appetizers, and dinner, with our bill totaling around $200. The restaurant had multiple open tables the entire time, and we made sure we were actively dining and not just sitting around. At the end of our meal, the manager, Kirk, came over to deliver our checks and told us that "it's Kansas law that you can't play games at restaurants," but that he would "let it slide this time." This was both confusing and frustrating and this is not true information. We were playing a simple tile-based strategy game. We weren't gambling or playing a drinking game. If it were truly an issue, it should have been addressed when it started--not after we had been there for hours. Additionally, we had explicitly asked our waitress beforehand and were told it was fine. Overall, the inconsistency in communication and the poor handling of the situation left a bad impression. It's disappointing because there are definitely things this restaurant does well, but the customer service experience means we won't be returning.

Unfortunately, the service side fell flat. We arrived mid-afternoon around 1:30-2:00, and the restaurant wasn't busy. We asked if we could sit upstairs, and the host seemed confused before telling us it was closed, then seated us directly next to a loud group despite plenty of quieter open tables nearby. A few minutes later, we looked upstairs ourselves and saw multiple occupied tables being actively served...what the heck? The most frustrating part of this experience wasn't the seating, it was the complete indifference from the staff. Drinks didn't arrive until after we had already finished eating, and despite the restaurant being relatively slow, nobody seemed remotely concerned. No urgency or communication. Just a normal day for them, I guess. A kitchen can only carry a restaurant so far when the front-of-house operates with this little care for hospitality. The atmosphere gives the impression of a place that wants to feel polished and upscale, but the service felt lazy and disconnected from the guest experience. Mistakes happen in restaurants. What matters is whether the staff notices and cares enough to fix them. We left wondering how a restaurant with food this solid has become comfortable delivering service this poor.
