Its been many years since I have been at this establishment and I decided to try something different and revisit this business the other day. I had two eggs over medium with American fries and bacon for my breakfast. The eggs and potatoes were well made and in line with what you would get at most restaurants in the area but I thought my bacon was a bit too crisp based on my personal tastes. Service was very good with great follow up where they give you your own small thermos for coffee refills which I love and wish more businesses in the area did this. Also the prices was quite reasonable for a Detroit area restaurant which also is worth noting especially if you are of a cost conscious mindset which I am being a retiree. The one thing I am cognizant of is that I didn't try their signature ommellets which may very well be a separator for this restaurant versus other breakfast joints in the area which might have warranted a higher rating. Maybe next time where my review will be updated at that time to reflect this. read more

I had a great breakfast here. Karen, our waitress, was very knowledgeable and helped me modify my meal to eat grain free. She confirmed everything with the kitchen to be safe for me-which was very much appreciated. I had the Eggs Benny Tuscan with bread subbed out for hash browns. The hash browns were delightfully crunchy and the hollandaise had a nice lemony zing. Haven't been here in years! It's just like it has always been. Went for breakfast on a Sunday. Wasn't super busy when we first got there. Waitresses were wearing masks. Other patrons were as well as they waited for food. That was a first! But was comforting. They were at half capacity and distancing customers. Our waitress was sweet. Others were a little grumpy. Maybe they were stressed? That's the only reason I didn't give a 5. We all have days, but leave it at home. I got the carrot cake pancakes. Holy yum!!! They were amazing. A hint of cinnamon, shredded carrots, walnuts, and drizzled in icing. They were sweet, but not so sweet that you felt like you were eating dessert. Love their coffee. The waitress brought us a carafe which was nice. The coffee has a bold nutty flavor. I also had a side of bacon that was well done. Just how I like it. The cost was cheaper than I remember it being. $26 for a huge yogurt parfait, 3 egg omelette, 2 coffees, half order of carrot cake pancakes, and a side of bacon. The restaurant was clean. Having been fully vaccinated, I decided to go back to Gest Omelettes today. (I have been a few times since my last review.) I was glad to see that there weren't many people there; since it's not a large restaurant, I was concerned about feeling like there were too many people. They have new menus now, with slightly increased prices, but pretty much the same offerings. I had a country omelette, and it was good. It came with a biscuit, and I really would have liked some jelly with it, but I couldn't catch a waitperson's attention to ask for some. Not a big deal, though. The one thing that really rubbed me the wrong way was a sign at the entrance which said to be patient, as they're short-staffed because people haven't come back to work. First of all, there was an adequate number of people there for the number of customers. Second, that really seems like an unnecessary political dig, and I ALMOST felt like saying that, perhaps if people were paid more, they'd be more willing to work. Oh, and even though restrictions have eased some, WE'RE STILL IN A PANDEMIC! Perhaps people are not yet comfortable returning to work with the public yet! If they needed to post anything (and I don't think they did), just a sign saying something to the effect of "Please be patient while we adjust to new routines" would have been sufficient. read more

what happened here?? Used to be fabulous!! used to eat at rthe original in Redford, too! Went into an empty resturant.....(one other table with 3 men. Ordered a $20 omelet. similar to the ones I had always enjoyed before. they used to be really high and made in oven.....what I got was 1/4 inch thick with the inside incredients fried ahead of time in a lump! (did order avocado and saw maybe two pea size pieces of avocado). never had the lettuce inside before either..not a good idea as it was limp. Obviously, we should have looked at the prices on the menu, but we knew what we wanted, and it was just a Coney island type restaurant in a strip mall. Breakfast at Gest Omelettes was fantastic! I had the potato pancakes and then were served with applesauce and sour cream just like I love it. My sister ordered the pumpkin pancakes and they were light and fluffy and served with a delicious apple butter cinnamon sauce and were to die for! Despite its name, it offers more than breakfast; its lunch menu includes sandwiches and salads. The breakfast menu caters to all appetites with omelettes available with one, two or three eggs. Additionally, guests can create their own from an extensive list of ingredients. A variety of Eggs Benedicts are available, as are popular breakfast platters. I was in the mood for the Country Omelette, where sausage, onions, cheese and lettuce were folded into 2 eggs. It was topped with a healthy-sized serving of country gravy. The lettuce added freshness to the heavy meal and the combination was good. Less good were the side of hash browns and country biscuit. The hash browns had a mashed potato consistency with a hard (almost stale-like) crust. I was very disappointed by what should have been a diner staple. The biscuit was literally hard to swallow; it was so dry that I only had a few bites. This says a lot since I love country biscuits. I also sampled the pancake which was delicious. Still excellent food after the ownership change and the waitresses always do their best. However, the food takes WAY too long to come out and is frequently cold. Not sure what the cooks are doing back there. The signs they always have up state that they are EXTREMELY short-staffed. Understandable, but it you don't have enough waitresses and you don't have enough cooks, you don't keep the entire restaurant open. Close some of the tables. Doing this for so long will only lead to alienating all of your customers. Confine the number of tables to the volume of staff you can keep on hand. And other than the waitresses (who always dress nicely), have the floor staff dress accordingly for a restaurant of this stature. read more

A year ago I would have given this place a full 5 stars. However, in the last year or so, the restaurant has changed hands and things have changed.The food is still good but not as soft and tender. They may be using 2 or 3 eggs but now they are not as light and fluffy. There is far less filling inside and they are more expensive. Due to inflation. We've eaten hear for years and always had a fantastic omelette for breakfast/lunch. The omlettes are more on the gourmet side than most are used to but that's the attraction, not your same old ham and cheese run of the mill stuff. I love the "Popeye" Special that's filled with spinach and Swiss cheese and covered in Bearnaise sauce. This is the best egg dish I have ever had! They have three size omelettes, crepe, two egg and three egg, lettuce is served on most but try it it's one of the things that makes this a standout along with the incredible airy/fluffy texture. I was expecting an omelette the size of 3 eggs, so I was surprised to receive something the size of an entire to-go tray. I knew it was impossible that they used only 3 eggs...they must've added something to it to bulk it up. The "egg whites" were not completely cooked, which left the entire omelette soggy on the inside. The consistency of the eggs were horrible...there was so much air whipped into the eggs that it reminded me of eating a wet sponge cake. Not to mention that the lettuce garnish that was included was obviously not fresh, appearing wilted and brownish in color. It's sad to say, but the toast that came with the omelette was the best part of the entire meal! I can't see myself coming back to try anything else when a place with "Omelettes" in their title would serve something so yucky. We received a flyer in the mail for Gest Omelettes and finally had the chance to come try them out. They're a diner style restaurant located in the same strip mall as Krogers. They offer 18 speciality omelettes but I decided to build my own (corned beef, white onion, and swiss cheese). My husband ordered the World War I which is the corned beef hash with 2 eggs. The hash is not your typical hash, it's scalloped potatoes which needed to be cooked a little longer. My omelette was OK... not your usual omelette either, it reminded me of a pancake with corned beef and melted cheese inside. Would I come back? Probably not.. sometimes different isn't the way to go. I had really high hopes for this place by the name of the restaurant alone. The waitress was super friendly and despite the morning rush, we were seated right away. You can customize your omelette or choose from the wide variety of custom omelettes that they already offer. I'm not sure how the omelettes are prepared, but despite its fluffy consistency, my omelette fell flat. I was expecting a traditional omelette, but that's not what I got. Don't get me wrong, it was hot, had all the ingredients I asked for, and the veggies were fresh. It also came with a big side dish for dipping into their yummy sauces. I just had breakfast here with a few friends. This is a cozy little place which is very welcoming. The atmosphere is busy with sounds of the normal hustle and bustle. I had an egg white omelet (2 eggs) with cheddar, mushroom, and avocado, and a side of hash browns. The omelet was HUGE and very fluffy. But it almost tasted too fluffy and airy. The hash browns were perfect! They were well done and just the perfect portion size. The coffee wasn't great, I've definitely had better, but it'll do. The portion sizes are pretty big. I mentioned I had a 2 egg omelet and didn't even finish it. My friend had a 3 egg white omelet and didn't even come close to finishing it either. The service was excellent! From the moment we walked in we were greeted with friendly "hellos". We were served by Debbie, who was extremely pleasant, and always refilling our coffee and waters. She was constantly checking up on the group to make sure everything was ok... thanks Debbie! A couple of things however: 1) the omelets come with lettuce unless you specifically ask them exclude it (I don't know why anyone would put lettuce in an omelet, but anyway, if you don't want lettuce be sure to tell your server). 2) it took a little long for the food to come out. This may have been because they were busy, or because the egg white omelets just take longer to make. The prices are pretty comparable to other breakfast places in the area. Okay- so I'm not one to write a bad review of a small business, but it's more of a warning than a bad review. The Omelettes have something else in them besides eggs and milk. I couldn't put my finger on it. She said it wasn't flour. The employee said they wouldn't tell her and the owner acted like it was a big secret. They sort of looked and smelled like pancakes (maybe buttermilk) I'm pretty careful with what I eat. I just ate the center. So if you get an omelette, be aware of this. Also, there was no soap in the women's bathroom (single stall). There was soap in the men's (I went in the other single stall to find some) and maybe the women employees just go in there. Someone could have just swiped it or finished it, but I looked and there wasn't an empty in the trash, nor was there soap in the cabinet. I didn't see that until after we ate or I probably would have left. I didn't say anything because the owner was sort of weird about the whole "what's in the omelette" think, so I wasn't comfortable.
