We take the adult kids out for brunch on occasion and Gest has become our go to restaurant. We enjoy the menus selections. There is something for everyone and with all of the choices they seem to execute every item well. There is gluten free bread and they make a yummy gluten free french toast too. There are many variations of eggs Benedict:Tuscan twist includes Texas toast with sun dried tomatoes, goat cheese and hollandaise. A delish combo for sure. Breakfast nachos covered in eggs, cheese, chorizo and sides of sour cream and pico. I took one star away as typically we need order our omelettes with extra cheese as they have a tendency to kind of skimp in this area. And, the coney omelette with extra cheese and extra chili we ordered last month did not have the tasty chili we had become accustomed to. Hence, it was not ordered this visit. Wow. All I can say is their menu was about five pages long there are so many options and varieties to feed your family. I got my favorite French toast and bacon it was so good. My daughters husband got an omelette to it was ginormous. I was told by many people to try this place and I'm really excited we finally got to eat there. They're open early because of the breakfast menu. The food tasted amazing the portions were fantastic we were more than full when we left. We definitely got a great value for our money. This is one of my new favorite breakfast spots! The food is great. I LOVE the aloha omelette. The staff is always friendly and you can definitely tell that they enjoy working there. The bussers, waitresses, cooks & hostess all work together to make sure you have a great experience. Even when there is a wait, during the busiest time of day... Very disappointed, ordered the Popeye Omelette as a carry out. It was to have spinach, mushrooms and onion. Chock full of spinach but almost no mushroom! Should have been loaded with decent sized sliced mushrooms. The spinach is not fresh but like the frozen kind which was chewy and awful tasting. The egg itself was tasteless and had a weird cake like feel almost resembling a sponge. Wonder what the add to make it that way. Very dry, tasteless and rubbery and in my humble opinion inedible. The French toast is amazing. *Update to previous Yelper review - Gest now takes credit cards. Yes, there is typically a wait, so my husband and I like to go a little later about an hour or two before they close. In warm weather it's not so bad having to wait because you can take a stroll along the strip mall or sit on the bench. In winter you have to claim an awkward space at the congested front area or go to the back near the coat rack where they have a few chairs set up. We've opted to sit at the bar a couple of times to avoid the wait. Not ideal if you don't want to see all that goes on, but can be entertaining. The omelettes are excellent. I didn't think that I liked fluffy/dry omelettes, but as long as I get cheese it is much more enjoyable. I highly recommend trying one if you haven't. The service is always on their game. They seem to make a great team. One reason I didn't give Gest a 5 star review, (and this may seem silly), but they need bigger cups. Gest Omelettes has been one of my favorite breakfast spots for about 10 years now. The staff is very friendly. Despite being busy they get you in quickly and take good care of you. Their menu is incredible... creative breakfast options that will leave you scratching your head over what to choose. My most recent visit I ordered the Eggs Aspen. An English muffin with a poached egg, avocado, tomato, and hollandaise sauce. On the side I splurged and got a Chocolate Chip Pancake. It was sort of the perfect breakfast. The Eggs Aspen was delicious, very messy, and gave me the morning energy boost I needed. I savored every bite. The side chocolate chip pancake was big and although not the best I ever had, there wasn't a bite left so can't complain. If you feel like creating your own omelette with more options than bacon and cheese - this is a great place to try. They have capers you can add! And pineapple! In your omelette! If you need breakfast for dessert I noticed they have pumpkin and carrot cake pancakes as well. I don't think you'll leave here disappointed! read more

I've had a lot of Omelette in my day, but I've had few that are like the Gest Omelette. This is not your mother's omelette, but is something much different and quite good. Gest has become a favorite of mine when on the west side of Detroit. Located in a strip mall, its not a place you would know about unless you know about it, and fortunately, my fiance did! First, lets deal with some of the other items that are written on Gest. Yes, the coffee is not wonderful, but it's certainly not as horrible as I've read below. I've had mixed service experiences based on how busy Gest is, but its never been bad. The servers have clearly been there a while and are familiar with the fare. The omlette is what you go to Gest for, and it doesn't let down, but it might surprise you. Yes, there is lettuce in many of the omelettes. This is enough to turn some people off. Personally, I enjoy the texture and freshness of the lettuce. The omelette is also unique in that its fluffy and baked versus pan fried as are most omelettes. This lighter and fluffier omelette is not as buttery as a traditional restaurant classic, but combined with the lettuce, it makes for a delightful flavor and texture combination. One of my favorite Omelettes is the Country Omelette which has sausage gravy over an Omelette rather than the biscuit. Smothered in gravy and stuffed with sausage and cheese, this is not for the heart healthy, but is full of flavor. I make a common mistake at Gest and often order the three or four egg omelette which is always too much to handle, and I'm not a light eater. I've also found the farmers, deli and vegetarian omelettes delicious as well! If you're not a fan of omelettes, you'll find all of your favorite breakfast meals. So, there is no shortage of options for anyone interested. This is a great meal and a terrific Omelette. Go there with an empty stomach and a bit of time, as the omelettes do not come quickly, but they do come well made and are always quite delicious! read more

On a chance my friend and I stopped by for a quick breakfast. I was really happily surprised. The staff was friendly and really on top of things. The food all tasted really fresh. I felt the place was clean and well kept. And the sauces were saucy and great and the omelettes were so amazingly creative as well. We had the fiesta omelette and the ops omelette and really enjoyed both. The ingredients were well picked and very good. I liked that you could pick how many eggs you wanted in the omelette up front - it saved my stomach from being over full. But best of all, the hidden gem, was the sausage gravy and biscuits. We tried this restaurant out for breakfast today. From the very first moment, the service was unfriendly and slow. There were no helpful suggestions and snippiness when I questioned the lettuce on an omlette! I ordered a Ham and Cheese omlette and it was horrible. It had a texture more like bread and the ham tasted like spam sent through a food processor. It came with toast, but they were going to charge $1.50 for hashbrowns. My son ordered pancakes. They were huge, but didn't taste any better than bisquick pancakes. When my waitress noticed I'd only eaten two bites of my omlette, she at least apologized. She said nothing is normal there. Did a pick up omelette order. Great price for 2 large omelettes with toast as the side. When they say large on the menu, they mean LARGE! i was blown away! Not only did the size impress me but the flavor as well. These omelets have the fillings on the inside of the fold instead of physically being folded into the omelet. Just a warning. Egg whites were only 75 cents mote (1.50-2.00 at other places). Not really sure with why they put lettuce with the omelettes but was willing to try, not bad! I'm not even sure that I can give it one star! I have not eaten here in over a year hoping that in a years time the food hopefully was better, unfortunately it was not. The same situation where the food has one note to it and no flavor of that. My wife ordered an omelette that looked like it came out of a microwave and stuffed with some meat it was just folded over. To say the least the only thing that was good was the toast. I myself had a Greek type scrambler. The unfortunate part of my breakfast was the whole thing. The hashbrowns were burnt and if somebody really thought this out they would've replaced the hashbrowns with some freshly sliced tomatoes to go along with the scrambled eggs onion and feta with a decent portion of gyro meat not microwaved. The Taziki was terrible as well. A small piece of advice would be to sit down and rework your menu or turn the keys over to somebody who really wants to serve better food. read more

I appreciate the effort, they do have a nice selection of omelets, you can even build your own, I got the western omelet, they had a strange tasting red sauce on-top of the omelet that i just didn't care for at all, it had kind of a horseradish flavor, which I'm not a big fan of, the ham looked like it was run trough a food processor very mushy, that to had a very odd taste, sorry to say but it had the texture of catfood, which grossed me out. I've eaten western omelets all over the country, this was probably the worst one I've had. The ingredients seemed sub par. The hubby and I have dined here twice mainly because he and my father in-law love it and wanted me to experience it as well. I was pleasantly surprised. We have had the omelettes, the corned beef hash, and the standard breakfast platters. Everything was good, I like how the eggs are never overdone which is a problem I have at most breakfast places. But my favorite are the potatoes. They are quarter sized and crispy on the outside and soft on the inside so you can really taste the potatoes-SO GOOD!! The potential of this place is outstanding. I have only gone once so this is based on a limited experience. Here is everything we ordered Half order eggs Benedict Full order Tuscan Benedict Side order of corned beef hash Side order of cinnamon French toast For the record this is way too much food for two people. The flavor of all four were very good, but they were all tepid at best. Nothing was hot which was disappointing. I sat and watched the Tuscan Benedict get pulled off the counter at least six times to realize the rest of the order wasn't ready yet, so nothing was delivered. The hash was pretty dry, but because it was a side it had no egg. The Tuscan comes on Texas Toast which is WAY too much bread for the eggs. However the flavor was killer. The service was charming and the bus boy was great about keeping the water glasses filled. So we will likely try again but we will be ordering one thing at a time. read more

Well, let's just say I was searching for a healthy alternative when looking at there menu and I landed on the vegetarian omelette. Through text it looked great, what I received was a monster amount of cheese sprinkled with scallions and green peppers. The egg white texture was inedible! Literally it felt like a toxic foam when you eat it! What in the world? I'll leave you pictures of my disgusting omelette. I will never return to this establishment. I usually don't eat out due to a food allergy but today I made an exception and ordered delivery from here. They not only fully accommodated my allergy, but also put a note inside the bag acknowledging they saw my special request and assuring me that no dairy was used. Had breakfast with my husband at Gest yesterday. First, everything in this place is different from "normal" breakfast places, so you will either like it, or not. Just plan for DIFFERENT. The young waitress was adorable, charming, well informed, and new the menu like the back of her hand. Very attentive, but it was not that busy. She gets an A+ He had the World War I, corned beef hash, with two eggs over easy, and raisin toast. The raisin toast (three whole pieces!) was VERY good. The amount of hash was ridicuoulsy huge, enough for three breakfasts easily, the mound was bigger than my head! The hash is different, thin potato slices, not overly done, the corned beef is more like deli sliced corned beef, shreaded up. The eggs were done perfectly. The has was good, a bit drier than normal hash you get at other restaurants, but good. I had the Spanish Omelette. It was also huge. The egg part of the omelette is VERY DIFFERENT. Almost like a pancake, airy, thick, with almost a bit of sweetness, I suspect they put corn meal in the mix. It is NOT like a traditional omelette, but I still enjoyed it. They had fresh made salsa on the side, which I enjoyed. Needless to say, we both had huge left overs to take home. The price for the amount is crazy, don't know how they make any money! I came here because of great reviews. I was very disappointed. I ordered a simple Ham and Cheese Omelette. When I got it at first it looked very good the Egg was fluffy, but then I took a fork to it and the Ham looked like dog food and tasted like low quality the cheese did not taste right, my dads Omelette did not look right or good at all. I not recommend eating here. Tasted like microwave crap....no freshness except for the egg. Omelettes should not be to pricy but trust me they are over priced and for the quality of the food so not worth it I been to other places around town that makes there food fresh and is very good and still has great prices! I'm not paying for school food! The Place is not very clean and if if its not clean what is behind the kitchen door? The service was friendly I will give it that. But the atmosphere reminds me of old grandma and seemed like when I was there the clients were older. This place is in a serious need of an update. Seriously amazing food mixed with a family atmosphere. A waitress was having a birthday and they got her a cake. Then they gave a piece of cake to every table. I would highly recommend checking this place out as you couldn't be disappointed. I could go on about how everything we had was great but I'll just say that even the white toast tasted great!
