I noticed a lot of the reviews on here that don't seem super accurate. The dumbbells are polyurethane, which is the industry standard. If they had the hex or basic rubber ones those would be more for a home gym type usage. I personally am a gear snob, have a home gym with some pretty nice equipment. My favorite types of plates are the 6-shooter/revolver style which this place has. This style is easy to pick-up and easy to maneuver, these are also in polyurethane. Secondly, this place has all the racks/machines that I could use. It's never super busy and has a good vibe to it. A lot of the negative reviews are during covid, which I never really dealt with but the equipment here is great and the management team is amazing as well. I work out at odd types, one of the reasons I switched to home gym, but whenever I need a late night pump this place is 24/7. I just checked out their Lathrop location, all new equipment and the place looks nice! I wish they updated this gym with that stuff. read more

I have had a membership in this gym continually since 2022 and for a few years prior to that and in my time of being a member, there are many issues I have had with this establishment. To start off, the Get Fit in Newman has very little workout space. There is extra unused equipment stored in workout/walking area of this gym and considering the building itself is small as it is, so you would think that gym management would kindly store that equipment elsewhere but customer ease is just not something I have seen prioritized. Continuing on equipment, often times there is equipment that is broken or in progress of being fixed. It's understandable for things that are used to need fixing, but they shouldn't need to be fixed as frequently as these machines do. You'd assume that paying a monthly membership plus a yearly service fee would ensure equipment upgrades but that has yet to be seen. Thirdly, I'd like to touch on the topic of neglect with this location specifically. To my understanding, this location is one of the first gyms that the owner opened but somehow gets the least amount of attention. I have seen what the Hilmar and Hughson locations look like and they are far better maintained than the Newman location. Whether that be a management issue or lack of care by the owner, either problem should be addressed. The flooring in this gym is also very lumpy and that's obviously dangerous for people who are lifting heavy weights. This gym has so much potential and it's sad seeing its condition, especially considering this is the only option that Newman residents are forced to have. Been going to the gym for many years and sadly seen such a huge decline in management. The staff is not very welcoming. It seems like all they care about is how much money they can get from you. From "cleaning fees", to sudden price changes without notice. Then when you call the desk person, Valerie from Newman, she is not helpful at all. Very rude and does not care to resolve anything. Whenever something arises she loves to pull out that the owner is her nephew card. She also loves to believe you can read her mind and never explains anything in detail, thus causing over charging, followed by her saying "i assumed you knew". The owner as well does not seem to care much about his clients feedback and quickly suggest that we can look for another gym knowing that there is not another gym for miles. if we have just a small issue. I understand as an owner he has more responsibilities opening new locations, whilst ignoring and not maintaining the gyms he has opened. When I had noticed I was getting overcharged for 2 months i had it brought up to Mikes attention and he of course took care of it. I had asked Mike if he can reimburse me for 2 months since it was their fault I was getting overcharged and seemed like the logical thing to do since i did not get refunded the money back from the overcharge. Mike then said he couldn't do it because it was not Valeries fault for the over charge it was my fault. I took a step back and was shocked how quickly he made me feel belittled and stupid. Instead of taking ownership for what valerie said she insisted that she had no recollection of saying certain details. Whatever happened to the customer is always right. All lies about their membership and cancelation policy. Had to pay for 6 months after moving because they wouldn't cancel my membership.

This is a small gym with very poor management. There is an employee physically present only from 10AM-2PM who appear to spend their time on their cell phones. And the employee turn over is ridiculous. The locker room/bathrooms are tiny and dirty all the time. The men's locker room constantly stinks like urine. When I complained they placed matt under the urinal which now just soaks urine & stinks even more. To make things worse this gym has a policy of not providing toilet seat covers in the men's toilets. When I inquired the employee said "we don't allow seat covers in the men's restrooms because men are messy". They also have a policy of $25.00 charge for failing to rack weights. They try to nickel & dime you for everything. read more

Bad business. I was on a hiatus from my job for a few months and decided that it was time to get back in the gym. I saw a flyer for the gym and decided to check it out. I spoke with the owner and he seemed like a great guy. He gave me a quick tour of the gym and then went over the membership details with me. He wanted either a full one year up front or a contract for two to three years. Then he wanted a $100 sign up fee on top of that. A $70 "fee" for the key fob to get in after staffed ours and direct access to my bank account should "anything happen or I bring in a guest without their knowledge". I thought I was in a time warp to the '80s. Memberships with contracts and massive fees just to sign up? I tried to point out that pretty much no one did that sort of thing anymore and he tried to counter that "We are not now or ever going to be one of those $10/month clubs". I told him that the monthly cost was not my issue. You want me to pay a huge so that you will accept me as a paying customer? I didn't realize my town had such high brow and exclusive clubs. I told him that I can do $35 +/- a month. I get that but then you want me to tie myself into a contract and to prove my loyalty to you I have to first give you another $100? Oh and that $70 key fob? Ok, so, I'm a tech type and I have actually installed a dozen or so of those systems. Those keys cost them $8 when you buy them separately. In bulk they cost half of that. I said, ridiculous fees aside, I'm not working at the moment so I don't want to sign a contract. Besides the fact that almost no one does contracts anymore, heck even cell carriers in the US are slowly getting the picture that people hate contracts and will not abide by them any longer. He told me "Oh don't worry we are supper cool here. If something comes up and you can't keep paying then just call me and we can just cancel it". So I said if you will just cancel it if I ask then there is no point in having a contract to begin with so lets just skip that part. He just looked at me like I was an alien. So I said, tell you what, lets just do the 7 day free trial that you offered and I'll see if this is what I want. So I did and for seven days I had a pretty good time. For the size of the gym and being in a town this small I thought it was pretty nice. I liked it and had a good time. When my week ended I tried to speak with the owner again. But he turned into a ghost. The only person who would talk to me was a very sweet girl who kept trying to get me to sign up for the standard package but other then that could not negotiate anything. I left my phone number, my email and left several voice mails. In my message I said I would be willing to do month to month at up to $40/month. I was not going to pay a $100 fee just for the privilege of joining his gym and that my wife had a friend from her moms group that had their key from when they just canceled their membership two months ago. I also said that my wife would join with me as well as another friend of ours. Three members but we would not do contracts. At the time they were running a promo for $1 sign up so that was a non issue and I said that either he could charge me a reasonable fee or I could buy my own key cards from the vendor to save him the time. No response, not a single one. I stopped by once a day (m-f) for three weeks. He was a no show every time and never once called me or attempted to contact me at any time. As a business person I see this as indicators of behavior. When you can't take the time to even return a call from someone who is trying to give you money, even if it's a lower offer then what you asked for, if you just ignore the person with a cash in hand then why would you expect those people to trust that down the road if there was any sort of issue that you would be responsive to their needs or concerns? After I made my choice not to try and follow up anymore I had several people from around town reach out to me and tell me that I made the right call. I won't post what they told me here but I can now say that I feel that I made the right call and that saddens me. Newman is a great town. I love it here but business people who feel that they don't have to respect the WHOLE community do not do anything to add to our town. In fact they drive people away. read more

Small gym. Missing a lot of equipment. $35 membership yet has the cheapest dumbells imaginable. They are screw on weights that you have to constantly be tightening so that they dont come undone and fall on your face. Every TReadmill has a TV which i think is a bit overboard. The treadmills are facing the big glass windows, would be great to just look outside instead of a big block right in your face. $35 for a restroom size gym in Newman, CA should give the owner(s) more than enough profit to get some decent equipment & some towel service. If this gym hooked up its members with some Iron Grip Dumbells, I'd be a proud member lol. Also, needs a decline bench for dumbells presses. read more

Worst phone etiquette from staff, Melissa. Questions regarding cancelling contract, and received attitude. Moved counties, asked to have hard form to be faxed to myself, so that it may be filled out with live signature and faxed back over with supporting documents of bank statement & new photo ID with updated address. Gym key could have easily been mailed in. Received attitude on why I didn't complete this before leaving residency, but they have no consideration for the hardship that caused this sudden change in residence which wasn't planned. Really feel I do not need to explain myself to this company in depth of my hardship. Completely rude, inconsiderable staff that doesn't accommodate the community the way it should, member or not. Would not recommend this company for that reason alone, poor service and lack of empathy. This is by far the best Gym I have ever been to! I mean that in the most literal sense! This gym has everything anyone needs to ever workout with and the staff here are by far the friendliest of all the gyms in the area. I have tried out Gold's Gym and In-Shape in the past...but the treatment I felt received from the their staff was that they thought they were better than me. Here the staff and the gym owner treat me and all the other clients as family. With their support I was able to drop 40lbs of fat in one year. They always are willing to help and advice clients on what to workout on. The equipment is state of the art with every cardio machine having its own personal Tvs. The best thing about this gym is that it is open 24hrs a day and 365 days a year. I can go work out at 2 or 3am if I want (which I have) and the surrounding area feels very safe. In fact the whole gym atmosphere feels very friendly and not intimidating that it would scare the novice gym goer off. If you have not checked this place out yet I highly recommend that you do so ASAP. read more

( Hated it almost immediately) Only reason why I took the 2 year contract was because it was either 2 or 3 years. Bad choice on my behalf. A lot of new equipment for this gym but the contract is ridiculous as well as the expensive monthly fees of up to $40.The only way you can get out of a contract with them is if you move out of the area at least 30 miles away and have proof that you have or are moving. For me being a college student I had to present them with my full class schedule (Mon-Fri) and inform them that I was moving to Turlock to be closer to my campus. I am still in the process of getting out of the contract...I find it pointless having to be forced to pay if I am never around Newman to use their gym when my campus offers a bigger gym free to students...This is a hassle to try to get off of their contract....they have very friendly and understanding staff though! I DON'T RECOMMEND SIGNING UP FOR A CONTRACT WITH THIS GYM IF YOU DON'T PLAN ON COMING EVERY DAY OR OFTEN AT ALL.
