My backyard makeover has just been completed! I contacted Apolo via Yelp and he was one of the fastest people to respond with the specific opening he had for me to choose. He came the same day and gave me a very reasonable estimate. I had another contractor that was scheduled for the following week, but I decided to go with Apolo. What I liked the most about Apollo are: 1. Clear communication: the complete scope of the work, project start time 2. Quality of work* I am happy with what I see with my new backyard. 3. Price: I had a few different estimates from different contractors. The range is not huge but there are differences. Apollo finished the project in three days (2 and half days). It seems like people either have a great or terrible experience with Apolo. Working with him was very stressful for me. For a job that would normally take 6 weeks, it ended up taking more than 6 months to finish. Not only did he not know how to do many aspects of the job, I had to constantly remind him of everything. He also tried to hide things from me or plainly lie to me. On the very first day of the job, he told me that there was a lot of traffic on US101 and he could not make it. Indeed, there was a bad accident there. Most people work a partial day when they hit bad traffic, but I said he can start the next day. On the second day of the job, he came to demolish my existing yard. I specifically told him to keep one tree at the center of my yard, and an hour later, his guys chopped it off. Rather than being upfront with me about it, *I* had to confront him about it. He apologized, and I said okay. I showed Apolo that I have a major gas line running through my yard and asked him to be VERY careful to not hit my gas line, and guess what, one of his guys specifically dug in that area and hit my gas line! *face palm* [1 star off] At this point, it was clear to me that he cannot keep a competent crew and the transient guys he hires do not care one bit about my yard, or their safety apparently. I talked to Apolo about my expectations if he were to continue to work for me, and he reassured me that he will improve. I told Apolo that the decking board we needed must be ordered right away because of COVID supply chain issues. He told me he did, but when I looked at his order date, it was not ordered until months later. At that point, the price also went up. (Hey, it's not my fault. If he ordered early like I told him, this would not have been a problem.) This oversight added several extra months to our project. [1 star off] When Apolo started building my deck, he looked confused. At first, he told me his decking guy quit so no one can work. I told him I will hire someone else, but he insisted on the job. After a few weeks, he hired someone from Craigslist. Okay, so build me a deck. It was still not built. I kept telling him I will hire someone else, but he kept on insisting he will do it (probably because he already paid for the higher priced decking boards). He actually then had to consult someone else about building the deck. After multiple re-sawing and re-anchoring, his crew pieced together something that resembled a deck. However, I noticed that the wrong edge pieces were used. I confronted him about it, and at first he said "I noticed that too" and then he said "Home Depot broke it when I picked it up, so I put another board there, but Home Depot said they will replace it." Which one is it -- that his guys installed the wrong pieces by mistake or Home Depot broke it when he picked it up? I looked at his replacement order, and it was a new order dated *after* I had confronted him, not a replacement order. [1 star off] Furthermore, Apolo was supposed to pave bluestone for me. The bluestones are manufactured square or rectangular in shape, but for some reason, his guys kept re-sawing them and I ended up with various tiny pieces...not the clean-cut pattern I instructed at all. He blamed the bluestones for not being perfect squares or rectangles. Regarding a new irrigation system, I made it very clear initially that my neighborhood has low water pressure, and he needs to design many more stations than normal. After he put in the irrigation system, he realized my water pressure was too low (I already said this at the very beginning!), and had to re-do some lines to add another station, charging me more money. [1 star off] Lastly, I told him I wanted certain fruit trees planted, one of which is an old-fashioned lemon tree. He plants me a sweet Meyer lemon tree with diseased leaves. I told him I wanted a healthy, regular, old-fashioned, tart Eureka lemon tree. He gave me a convoluted story about how a nursery in L.A. carries it, but there is a minimum order to ship it, and he has to pair it with some other order to make it worthwhile. After listening to that story, I went to a nursery 5 minutes from my house and bought an Eureka lemon tree and planted it myself. Toward the end of 6 months, there were still parts of the job that were unfinished, but Apolo was reluctant to return to finish things up. He even argued with me about how he did not want to pay for another lawn edge piece for $70 or a decking screw for $5. I paid him tens of thousands of dollars by the way. Anyway, I just did not want to work with him anymore. It was faster if I did things myself. I still gave him a generous final payment more than what I should have, because I wanted to part on amicable terms. This is not a 0-star review because the shrubs he planted at the back of my yard look quite nice. That is the only part of the job that went right. read more

You have to be careful with this contractor - do not trust his words. He promised to do clean up and remove all dead grass at the front yard, fix the sprinklers and seed the yard. I was afraid that he would charge extra for extra sprinklers so I walked him the yard and asked carefully if he does all the work, he held me and told me everything will be good, do not worry. At the end of the day, he left with a bunch of dead grass and he said they are weed, not grass. He also said he fixed a lot of sprinklers though I paid him a lot of money $1000. So be careful with this contractor. He also charged me $100 as the cost of returning 6 paver wood containers. I hired Apolo to replace two sprinkle valves above the ground and to plug one spot on the PVC pipe underground where threaded riser was absent. I was agreed to his estimated price for this work as $300. After he finished the work and the water was turned on, we saw that the water meter still slightly running. He suggested that the valve on the outside wall of the house for attaching garden hose will be replaced. He gave me his estimation for this work and I was agreed. He unscrewed that valve and went to the store to buy the same valve. When he returned, he could not install the new valve - looks like the thread was different. Why he did not measure or try it at the store? Then he tried many times to screw in a new valve using his force and different tools. As a matter of fact, all his tools, in my opinion, were very old and primitive. As a result, he damaged the cupper pipe itself. It became clear when I asked him to stop and just put back the old valve. After he turned water back, we saw a real trickle that was coming from between valve and pipe. When I asked him to fix this problem he said he has to charge me for this new work. At that moment I understood that I was dealing with completely unprofessional and irresponsible person and asked him to leave my property. The leak was so bad that I needed to call San Jose Water Co. to come and shut off the main valve. This way I was without water for full two days, including Thanksgiving holiday. Next day I needed to hire a real professional plumber who came and replaced damaged pipe for $1,039. Apolo may be a good landscaper, but his simple plumbing work turned into disaster and heavy expenses for me. He should not take on a job that he is not prepared for and he should be prepared to fix any damage he caused to the property of his customers free of charge. On the first day we gave him the initial payment of 30%, in retrospect it was the biggest mistake. His behavior immediately changed after getting the money. And from the second day disaster started to happen. He forgot the lawn area marking we initially told him. He charged us extra to do change, But even after that he did not corrected it according to our instructions. The second issue we found was with Garden beds. This so-called "Pro" doesn't know how to use the Leveling tool. So all the garden beds he has built turn out crooked. When we showed him this issue, He started convincing us saying these boxes are anyway going to get out of level in 10 years, So why not accept it as it is now. And was making excuses like how the ground was not leveled. Well the professional contractor knows how to build leveled structures out of imperfect surfaces. And he failed right there! We realize that he is not taking responsibility for his mistakes, continue to argue and diminish our concerns. So we didn't wanted to go ahead like this, So we decided to stop this madness. We ask him to pay back money for the work he has not finished, But he refused to give us any money back, Instead he was asking for more money for the work that he has not even started. We have dealt with a bunch of contractors with varying degrees of experiences, But this experience is the worst of all. We have never seen such a dishonest contractor with low morals. Our new yard is more beautiful than we could have imagined. The company has a little problem meeting scheduled times by a day here or there, but the work they do is amazing. There was a cheaper quote, but that guy wanted to put a layer of rock and sand and put an inferior quality turf on the top. Get Pro prepared and graded, it was amazing. they diverted our gutter outflow pipes and even gave us a new water faucet thingie--ours was leaking. Let's set aside lack of masking by Apolo or his employees in disregard of Santa Clara County masking mandates-- and just the general posture of disrespect toward his unfortunate clients. Apolo received our neighbor's fence-build proposal and bid on the project. Along with our neighbors, we accepted the bid, since we would be splitting the cost. What followed was disappointing and grossly unprofessional: - details in the written proposal were repeatedly not followed, including as basic as board and post size; - multiple significant delays occurred because Apolo's employees on site did not follow the details of the proposal repeatedly and told us they had never built a fence before -- they were unable to follow details of the detailed written proposal (board length, post size) solve basic issues that arise with the building of a basic fence (post placement, working around a small tree) and would stop work, so we would have to wait for days for Apolo to show up to help them; - ultimately, the boards weren't overlapped enough, so the fence immediately shrank in the summer heat, and the boards started pulling apart, exposing sizable gaps; - the arbor on top of the fence was executed poorly and is riddled with ugly cuts, uneven screw placement, and other obvious uncraftsmanlike issues; - it took many weeks to get Apolo to show up to fix the gaps, after multiple weeks of slow communication and excuses, which was done as shoddily as to be expected from the above experience; - Apolo lied repeatedly to my face about what had been made clear to him both in the written proposal and in person during this fence build, suggesting that changes had been made repeatedly (they were not; he was asked to follow the proposal he had bid on) and generally acting like he did not read the proposal that he had bid on. Apolo's response to me pointing out the uneven cuts and poorly placed screws and the general haphazard, sloppy, unprofessional appearance of the work was: "I don't know what your expectations are of a fence." It is clear to me that Apolo's expectation of taking a fence job is to send novices to slap together a barely functional thing and then disappear as it falls apart. Apolo's response to me after I pointed out issues with the arbor was: "I came here to fix the boards, and now you're talking to me about the arbor." It turns out, you can't talk to the man about more than one aspect of his shoddy work, and, believe me, as it was, we did not bother to have him address anything beyond the gaps because it would have required tearing down and starting again, and after weeks of dealing with this guy and his crew, we'd all had enough. This was by far the worst, most incompetent and unprofessional contractor (in constant blatant violation of Covid-19 SCC rules at all times) we've ever had to deal with. Way to go, sir, on this award. As Apolo said to me while storming out, "have a great day!" Nearly $6000 split between two properties -- worst money I've ever spent. read more

Do not trust these guys for anything more complex than trimming your lawn. We hired them to install a drip irrigation and replace our lawn. The communication was painful (a few missed appointments), but that would've been fine if the end result was OK. We asked them specifically if our project needed a flush valve and were told not to worry, they know what they were doing and the valve would definitely be installed. End result is: * the did not install the valve. In a few years the system will stop working and may need a complete replacement if it's clogged too much * part of the system simply does not work. If feels like they forgot to connect it. But once they took the money it was impossible to make them repair anything they did. read more

I asked various companies to dig a large hole for me and Get Pro offered the best cost - other companies wouldn't even talk to me or said that holes were beneath them to dig. After simple requirements gathering they came and dug this wonderful hole, even adapting to changing requirements about the depth of the hole. Futhermore they did it fully socially distanced and following all health and safety guidelines, therefore avoiding digging themselves an entirely different hole. One day I hope to actually meet these incredible and expert hole diggers, but I have a heart condition and could not risk any contact, so I apologise for being the weird person that asked for a massive hole to be dug and then promptly holed up in the house. As amusing as I'm trying to make this review by mentioning holes a lot, I'm really very pleased with the hole and will turn to them for future heavy landscape lifting, hole-based or otherwise. :-) read more

Run Away. I have done many remodels and landscaping renovations and this is by far the worst experience I have ever had. Yes, it was a large project, and perhaps too big for Apolo. Several things were done incorrectly and had to be redone. As of this writing there are still problems that Apolo refuses to correct, since I made the mistake of paying him in full. He didn't always show up when he said he would, and often only sent 1 person when there should have been 4-5. The project, which is still not complete, was drawn out way too long. I have irrigation zones that were not connected, zones were mis-labeled so I wasn't watering what I thought I was watering. Irrigation was laid incorrectly(example one ring of netafim around a tree instead of two). In replacing the old irrigation system, they left old tubing and drip lines around, and left random clips, flags, and other debris. I am still cleaning up after them. Apolo took advantage of me as I was temporarily handicapped and could not get out and check that everything was done. He lied to me multiple times. He overcharged me, and charged to things that were not done. On three seperate occasions his guys left water running and left for the day-again when I could not get out and check or remedy the situation. My water bill was almost triple the usual for that month. I am unsure if he is incapable, or just was trying to do something quick and take short cuts and get his money and leave. This was an expensive lesson. read more

I hired Apolo midway through our landscape project, after I had fired the current landscape contractor. I am so glad that I found Apolo and I wish I had hired him for the entire project. He is very knowledgeable about plants and trees. He and his crew are extremely professional and easy to work with. I had drainage problems at one of my rental properties, when I hired Apolo I wanted to do just a regular drainage, but then he suggested me to do the French Drain, I was a little uncertain about it because I din't know what a French Drain was, then he explained me the differences between a regular drain and a French drain, I got to say the cost was a little more but at the end I was glad I did it, I don't have any issues with the drainage. His workers are very courteous and smart. They clean up after themselves and work hard. Appolo is also very knowledgeable about the plants, grass,drainage and irrigation. He keeps up to date on the latest technology. Ex: Drip systems aretraditionally terrible. The small tiny black tubing that gets clogged regardless of how many filters get used. In the end it is useless. Apollo uses a drip system, but the tubing is as thick as a garden house and lasts forever. I was very pleased. The sprinkler system was also top knotch a very neatly done with a nice controller (with an added rain sensor) in the garage. His team worked in the rain during and it never bothered them. I had them come back to do more planting (again in the rain). The lanscaping is exactly what I asked for--ready for rental. He is very organized and polite. He knew his phone calendar wasn't working so surely he could have made more of an effort to keep up with his appointments. The only thing I got from him was "yeah, I need to take it to the store to get it fixed". I worked with Apolo on my front yard entry. This was to be a main part of the house where everyone will see so we wanted to make it perfect. We used Get Pro to replant a 15x18 foot patch in our backyard . Existing grass was removed, irrigation was laid out, plants were put in place and mulch laid on top. We also got some paver stones laid out in the middle of the patch . It's been two months and we're happy with the results. Apolo and his team did an excellent job with putting in our backyard sod as well as drainage/irrigation system. He is very responsive and willing to work around customer's needs. The follow-up is great and landscaping needs were met to our expectation. We had very minor issues with drainage when the rain hit, but Apolo sent someone out right away to fix the issue. Though the initial job was very good, Apolo's follow up with any issues was very professional and shows he backs up any of his work. We definitely recommend Pro Landscaping! read more

I'd like to give exactly two-and-a-half stars. I had a really good experience with this guy initially. He did some lovely work for me on one property for reasonable prices, and seemed to have a good crew of guys. But then, he started to build an arch for me that remained unfinished for over a year, because he had lost some of his crew and contacts, and our relationship just plummeted from there. The thing that really irked me was when he finally came back to finish the arch, one of his workers evidently used a pallet of extremely expensive and breakable tile for another project as a surface upon which to saw wood, shattering $1500 of tiles beneath. Apolo tried to blame workmen besides his crew, but the only other person working there that day was someone working in another area whom I have known and trusted for years, and I found redwood dust from the project they had completed and an obvious shattered ridge right through the center of the pallet where an electric saw had been used that very afternoon, and the pallet was right next to the work they were doing. His work at the end was also mediocre. I think this guy lost a good crew of people he had working for him and hasn't been able to find acceptable replacements since, or maybe he just didn't deem finishing up small projects that had already been mostly paid for worth his while. I hope he can turn things around, but I wouldn't rehire him, as I feel my trust has been broken. read more

Alright- I'll be honest, I like taking long showers. And who the heck says two showers a day are excessive when you sweat like I do. So naturally, the water restrictions in the drought meant showers or flowers. Obviously, you know what I chose. But I hated every alternative option I saw- why even have anything if it meant having something that ugly. But Apollo (sidebar: that name tho!) let me determine how I wanted my yard to look, straight from functional to aesthetic. The best part is what he did in terms of running with my concern for a little privacy (I didn't want a fence in the front). No picture does it justice! I have the funkiest plants on the block, and they look lush, they move with the wind, they have a personality of their own and I don't really want plain old grass and shrubs ever again aka #BasicBushes And I'll be honest- I could have chosen some other gardner that costs less or whatever, but I have immense respect for people who work hard, run a small business and hear me out. Otherwise it's like sitting in a barber's chair and the barber starts cutting your hair, and you haven't even told him what you want 0.0 I am glad we are finally gonna get some rain with El Niño, but this last year was pretty rough. And I don't think that change would have been easy for me, unless it was for these guys and their "healing" powers (get it?? Apollo the God of healing, sun and light?? Get it? :D) Thanks for making my yard look fabulous guys! read more

I had mulching covering ground for preventing weed grows, but it didn't work well. Talked to Apolo at Pro Landscaping, and convert the mulch to cobbles. Apolo's team performs quick, clean, and nice work! read more
