After getting quotes from several tree services, Jorge's prices were hands down the best, no contest! I even got quotes from him for my next door neighbor so we could get this work done all at once. We had to remove our dead pine tree that has been with us since we moved into this house in the late 80's. It was so sad to see the tree go... Jorge's crew arrived at the scheduled time and went straight to work starting with our tree. I watched as they systematically removed all the branches. Then, section by section the worker cut down the trunk. The crew was attentive, safe and efficient with their process. While one chainsaw was being used, the other was being cleaned and refueled. After the tree was more or less cut down, they rolled in the stump grinder and ground down what was left of the stump. They wasted no time. In less than an hour, they moved on to my neighbor's two skinnier trees and cut them down in the same fashion, lastly removing all the thorny rose bushes too. There was debris everywhere! Since they were almost done, I went into the house to grab my checkbook to pay Jorge. When I came out, his grew was gone and all the debris was cleaned up. It was as if nothing had happened. MAGIC. I got some quotes for my yard project, but after meeting Jorge - it was clear he was the one for the job. Jorge came the next day to provide a free quote to do a yard clean up of my front/backyard, tree trimmings and build a supported box dragon fruit trellis. He was professional, gave his input on the trellis and price was reasonable. His team did a wonderful job. From removing the weeds, to pruning the trees and building the box fruit trellis. It took them several hours and glad my yard didn't look like a jungle anymore lol :). Although I have to say, they did forgot to blow the leaves on the side of the house (I forgot to check). I am a tradesman. I charge fairly and I pay my helpers fairly. After 10+ years in contracting and 20 yrs prior as a homeowner and property manager, one thing I can tell you for sure. Tree trimmers are gougers. And they will gouge you whenever you give them the chance. It's in their DNA. Part of the scam is that they tell you they charge by the job and they never tell you an hourly rate. The hourly rate is a trade secret. Furthermore, they hope you're not home when the job is done so you don't know how much they are making per hour. Would you believe $450/hr? Green Sierra is a prime example. The original estimate to prune 3 medium size trees (about 30ft avg) was 900, no chipper. I told them last year it was a 4 hr job. I know. I was there. I do my own groundwork. We did some downsizing last year. Therefore, this year the job took only 2 hrs, and they knew it would take only 2-4 hours. They know exactly what they are doing and how far they can push (most) people. I haggled Green Sierra down to $500. Then I called my regular tree guy who works in my business as a journeyman, and he also gouged me. In the end, taking major shortcuts, he did the job in 2hrs flat, and he charged me $450, which is $225/hr. I'm burned. Buyer beware. Always get multiple estimates. Don't believe any sob stories about workman's comp and general liability insurance because those 2 expenses together, specifically for tree services, are only $2.95/worker-hr based on a 2K hour year. I know. I called my broker. --------------------------- UPDATE: Shortly after posting this review, l met with Green Sierra management in person. First, they care what people think--and this is a good thing, to be sure. Second, I can see they are good people doing their best to make a living. Green Sierra insists they estimate by the job because workers work at different paces. Understandably, when it comes to tree climbing, there is no such thing as hurrying up. It takes as long as it takes. However, what Green Sierra is not doing is capping hourly rates, which they should. It's not that hard. I do it myself. I, too, charge by the job, primarily. But I cap my hourly rate at $60 for most jobs. Because there is a fair top end price for everything, and any more than that is theft. In my final analysis, Green Sierra is essentially good. They obviously want to do right by people, but they also want to protect a business model that often results in rampant overcharging, which is pervasive throughout the industry. read more

Green Sierra took out a tree on our property that was too close to the house and the roots were causing the lawn to slope on one side. Jorge gave us the lowest quote by far, and his team was able to start right away. They worked quickly and used a stump grinder to dig down about 12-18 inches. I thought they would bring a chipper for the trimmings but he said it was full so they cut everything down to size by hand. When they left the trimmings, trunk and all, out for the city to pickup I was dubious. Jorge assured me the city would pick it all up and they did. He even said to hold payment until I was satisfied. This business was previously reviewed under Palomares Tree and Gardening Service with the same phone number. I attempted to deal with the problem of BIG trees (see pics of tree climber soon) growing roots adjacent to my foundation in 2014. A building inspector had told me that live roots were growing under the house. Unfortunately, a first contractor, who showed up late, would not give me a firm quote...just so much a day. And wanted me to send him the info I had on the city's tree ordinance. I did send him the info. He called and wanted to schedule the job, but I indicated I needed a firm quote. I didn't hear back from him. So in 2015 when I contacted Jorge of Green Sierra Landscaping Inc., all the information that I had given him, he repeated back to me when we met. Then he gave me a firm quote. I wanted two trees taken down and wanted the 10-inch-wide root next to the foundation demolished. I wanted new soil, not wood shavings, next to the foundation and in the holes left by the trees. Jorge actually showed me one section of the foundation that might already be damaged. However, we wouldn't know until the root that was partially above ground was removed. I had another hiccup while the city made sure that these weren't protected trees. I also asked Jorge for a certificate of insurance (tree limbs and tree trunks and traffic, oh my!) and he personally delivered that within a day. When Jorge's crew finished spreading out the soil, only the old timers in the neighborhood would have known that there had been trees there. They and Google street view! And Jorge was happy to point out to me that the foundation was not damaged by the root. Nor by the tearing out of it. In reviewing the job, I felt they hadn't taken out all the tree roots from the remaining trees that I wanted addressed. He had some of his crew address my concerns immediately. Whew! Jorge built my fence a year ago. While the fence is fine, he did not spray the stain and sealer on it which is clearly written in the contract. He assured me and my neighbors, who also used him, as several neighbors contracted with him, that he would be back in 6 weeks to finish the job and put the stain on when the wood cured. I realize we have been in a pandemic, but it took a year and much cajoling and a bad Yelp review to finally get the stain on this fence. If you can't deliver what's written in the contract then don't take the job in the first place.
