    Orange Chicken spiced to order
    Joseph Z.

Had the Orange Chicken and asked them to spice it up medium. They did it just right. The boned chicken legs were huge and the coating was fried whole and generous in portion. Juicy. The rice was amazing too. I had to get a take out box it was so much. The guys in the kitchen were friendly and responsive.

    Spicy dry-fried potatoes

I had been itching to try chef Andrew's food for quite some time and I'm so mad at myself for waiting so long. The food is truly fantastic. The chicken for the orange chicken was so juicy and flavorful even without the sauce, the friend rice was some of the best I've ever had, and the noodles had just the right amount of kick. The crab rangoon had the perfect blend of crab and cream cheese and as potato girlie I could have eaten two bowls of the spicy, fried potatoes. They're doing a residency at Holy Ground pub in addition to their pop-ups, so you can get your eat on everyday of the week. We arrived around 6pm on a Friday evening and were able to order easily at the window. It took about 15 or so minutes for all of our food to come out and everything was hot and fresh. I expected it to be packaged to-go style, but everything came out plated very nicely and chef was even doing some food running so it was cool to get to interact with him. If you haven't tried this food yet, it really should be on your list. Maybe I'll bump into you there because I will absolutely be back.

    Kung Pao Chicken Noodles

Wow! Wow! Wow!!! I'm a picky eater who rarely eats Asian food. I'm now craving dim sum every single day. I first tried Chef Andrew's food at a catered Mardi Gras parade party on the neutral ground of St Charles. Months later, I got the chance to bless my pallet again. Highly recommend the Kung Pao Noodles with Chicken, Crab Rangoons and the Dan Dan Dumplings. Currently they are located inside of the Holy Ground. Simple wooden old school bar inside. Not a bar I'd consider a place for a fun night but good for ordering drinks and delicious food. It just doesn't have that welcoming atmosphere that gives me a feeling like I'm going to have a great night. If they had some music on or large TVs for sports, I might be more inclined. Definitely check it out for your Thai craving!

Back then it was my first Dim Sum experience and then when I worked in Heritage Plaza during Katrina recovery days we ate lunch there at least once a week. But this is all new! I'm so happy for Miss Shirley and the amazing place that has her name on it on Magazine St. The food was exceptional. Everything from the short ribs to the Soup Dumplings, to the Moo Shu with those paper thin pancakes. Everything was fresh and fantastic. What a great time and it was so good to see Miss Shirley again after all these years.

Thankfully, Magazine Street offers plenty to do to pass the time! When we were finally seated, our table was toward the back near the kitchen. The interior is a cozy but tightly packed space, which means it gets pretty loud with all the chatter bouncing around. However, any issues with the crowded feel vanish once the food arrives. The food and service easily make up for it. Our waiter brought out complimentary fried beef dumplings with a house-made chili sauce that tasted incredible. We ordered the Pineapple Fried Rice (shrimp, pork, chicken, egg, pineapple, and onions) and it was absolute perfection. We also got the lightly battered Orange Ginger Chicken with broccoli, which had amazing flavor. Well worth the visit!

Rather than pursuing a burger, I decided to try this well regarded Chinese restaurant across the street from my hotel. This review is based on one item I got for takeout: Szechuan Beef. I am never one to equate quantity with quality. I'm also not well-versed in authentic Chinese. I'm mostly familiar with American Chinese. I ordered Szechuan beef expecting a dry stir fry of beef strips tossed with dried Szechuan peppers. Instead I got a 1 quart container with a zesty, moderately spicy broth loaded with tender strips of melt-in-your-mouth beef. This was pure heaven, and was an explosion of tangy flavor. The quart could've easily served a family of 4. That would just require another side of rice. This was just outstanding! The restaurant was compact yet inviting and service was great. I placed my takeout order on site at the counter, but they have table service.

I've eaten here before and the food is decent, which makes this experience even more disappointing…read more I ordered a dish with shrimp and simply asked to substitute broccoli for the rice. When the bill arrived, I noticed I had been charged extra for the broccoli and also charged for shrimp--even though shrimp was already the protein included in the menu item I ordered. I politely questioned the charge, and the explanation I received didn't seem to match what was stated on the menu. I then asked to speak with a manager so the issue could be addressed. After quite a bit of discussion in the kitchen, the server returned, but instead of a manager coming out, I was given essentially the same explanation we had already discussed. I calmly explained why the charges didn't make sense and expressed that I was unhappy with how the situation was being handled. Unfortunately, there seemed to be little interest in resolving the concern or retaining my business. The food is fine, but my advice is to carefully review your bill before paying. Based on my experience, management does not appear particularly concerned when customers raise billing issues.

Beware if you have not experienced push cart dimsum as it can be really overstimulating. But I like the aspect of it because it feels really authentic. Since the last time I have been here, there were some new items they offered. One that I tried was the black sesame salted egg yolk bun, which I really liked! Its a good runny consistency and has a good flavor if you like salted egg yolk. Other than that, we had the typical dimsum classics like shu mai, har gow, and chicken feet which were all pretty good, but not insanely good. My biggest complaint about the place is the spacing of the tables. The tables are barely one foot apart from one another, so it feels like we are in everyones conversation and I can imagine if it were busier, it would be tight and uncomfortable. The employees were all nice and quick with service when we went.

The egg rolls have great flavor but doesn't compare to the Boudin Balls I've previously had. I would say they're kid friendly. I liked the red beans and rice but everyone else didn't care for this batch. The shrimp were large and seasoned well as i didn't eat the bread. Someone else ordered the Philly poboy. We preferred the gumbo, which was very flavorful. The jambalaya was a little dry for our preference and the rice and beans lacked flavor. My dad got the gator bites which were also really good! We also appreciated the options they had for vegetarians - my mom got the veggie burger and sweet potato fries and enjoyed both. She also had a shellfish allergy and they took great care regarding cross contamination.

We ordered the bao and immediately noticed a sour taste after only one bite. We informed our server that we did not enjoy the dish, but it was not removed from our bill. Additionally, the chicken pho broth lacked flavor and tasted more like dirty water than a properly prepared pho broth. Service was also lacking. Throughout much of our visit, several staff members appeared to be sitting at the bar on their phones rather than actively attending to guests. The overall hospitality did not meet our expectations. To make matters worse, when paying with tap-to-pay, the gratuity screen only presented tip options of 20%, 22%, and 25%. The server held the payment tablet while we completed the transaction, creating an uncomfortable situation where customers may feel pressured to leave a substantial tip regardless of the quality of service received. Given the level of service we experienced, this left a particularly poor impression. Based on our experience with both the food quality and customer service, I would not recommend this restaurant to others looking for a place to eat while visiting the area.
