I've been here before and the food was good. Not awesome , but good. Tonight I ordered my usual of beef and broccoli. The meat was off. It was full of gristle and had a very strange texture. They are consistently good Chinese take out. It's nothing crazy different from any other Chinese take out, but the girl who answers the phone is very polite and helpful, they are quick, and you can count on getting the same quality item as you got it the last four times your ordered. Everything we have tried on the menu is pretty good! Obviously it's not some gourmet place like Miss Shirley's but that's not what you want always is it? I needed something different and had heard some good things about this place. Today I decided to try it out and had the sweet and sour chicken and the crab rangoon. Regarding the food, I was pleasantly surprised. The crab rangoon was some of the best I have ever tried. The sweet and sour chicken was equally as good and I thoroughly enjoyed my meal. NOTE: I was a bit surprised at how all of this is given to you and possibly I was not aware of how they operated. I received a typical oriental style box with the fried chicken, another with the white rice and a container of the sweet and sour sauce. I honestly thought I would get one large container with the seasoned chicken and another with the rice, similar to Panda King but that was not the case. Furthermore, I did not receive any utensils. Thank goodness I was bringing it back to a location where I had a plate and utensils or I would have been searching for something to use to eat! Will I go back, yes, but next time I know that I have to be prepared to mix it all together. The food is ok if you're craving Chinese food. Service is fast and food easy to pick up. Specific dishes: My kid loved the egg drop soup and gobbled it up. The chicken fried rice should be called "onion fried rice", as the whole dish was full of huge chunks of onions. Don't order this unless you love onions. The chicken and broccoli was good. You have to ask for chopsticks, plates, napkins. They won't give it to you automatically. No ambiance to speak of. Hot and small waiting room and was smoky. The food is always good but I usually order directly from their website and was annoyed to discover yelp is wayy more expensive. For some reason the same menu items seem to be a few dollars more which adds up to a lot with multiple items. Unfortunately I did not realize until after placing my order and thinking I paid more than usual. To be honest I was in a rush because we were on our way home and wanted to pick it up on the way. I tried Hot Wok again, and I was not disappointed! I had the chicken with cashews and the General Zhou chicken. Both dishes had quality cuts of meat, so that was awesome. The General Zhou was as expected: breaded and fried with a sweeter sauce. The chicken with cashews was DELICIOUS! It had a tangy miso-based sauce that was savory in flavor. It's by far my favorite item I've tried here! My only complaint was that they skimped on the chicken a bit for this dish. It had waaaaaaay more veggies than chicken, and I wished it was a little more balanced. They did not, however, skimp at all on the cashews - there were tons in there! Regardless, I had the General Zhou too, so I wasn't missing my protein anyway. The breading of the wontons were crispy on the edges, with perfect balance of crunch and fluffiness in the center. The filling was a creamy and savory blend of crabmeat and cream cheese. No flavor was overpowering and the texture was light and melted in every bite. The General Tso's chicken (white meat option) had tasty sauce with a bit of spice. The chicken was perfectly fried with a light crispy breading and juicy center. The side of rice with mixed vegetables did not meet my expectations visually, but paired nicely with the General Tso's chicken. The vegetables were steamed well but didn't blend with the rice. Overall this was a filling and satisfying meal. I would order the wontons and Chicken again. I may try a different rice on my next visit. The food is delicious fast affordable and fresh. The shrimp are local and large not the typical thing you get the sauces are delicious the vegetables are fresh. Your order is always ready in about 10 minutes and it's affordable when I walk in and give the cook a big smile - he smiles back It's that kind of place, obviously family run. First time ordering take out from here and it was exactly what you'd expect from Chinese takeout. Crab Rangoon was tasty. I ordered because I was craving mei fun, which was was yum! My honey ordered the sweet and sour pork combo with beef lo mein. However, the sweet and sour pork turned out to be shrimp and the sauce wasn't all that good. Bummer! I never expect great food from take-out American Chinese, but maybe I'm spoiled moving from a part of the country with a high Asian population because it's just not very good. It's standard American Chinese food, but more bland, a bit dry, and overcooked. I ordered the General Tso's combo and my wife got the beef and broccoli combo. Neither was memorable. It wasn't terrible, just nothing special. On the plus side: the food was done very quickly. It was ready at the time they said it would be. Portion sizes were decent. Today is July 03, 2023. I contacted Hot Wok at 7:02 PM to confirm if they were open. The lady who answered the phone stated they were open today. I explained to her It would take me about 35 minutes to get to her and I would call her back to place my order so It could be hot and fresh when I pick the order up. At 7:32 PM, I called Hot Wok back to place my order. There was a lot of loud talking and noise coming from the background.The lady who answered the phone asked for my name and what would I like? Before I placed my order I told her Michael (my husband) would be picking up the order. After I told her I wanted the Shrimp fried rice and I wanted only green onion and fried eggs in it. She immediately cut me off and said wait I can't hear you the call is going in and out, I need to call you back. We hung up and she called my phone right back and asked how I wanted my rice? Again I explained to her how I wanted my rice. She then started talking over me and asked do you want extra green onions? She also stated we don't fry eggs we scramble eggs. How many eggs do you want? I then thought this lady is trying to start confusion. She is talking loud over me and asking unnecessary questions. And she keep hanging up the phone calling my phone back being very disrespectful. I have never got out of line with any one in this restaurant. I'm not a rude person period unless you give me a serious reason to be. I notice I called two other times a few months back to place my order and I received the same disrespectful treatment. This has to be the same lady talking loud over me, pretending she has an issue with the phone service and repeatedly calling my phone line. At 7:49 PM, I called Hot Wok back and asked to speak to a manager. I was asked by the person on the other end was this regarding my order. I said yes. Within a minute a lady who said her name is a Chell, stated she was the manager. I explained to her the disrespect coming from this person who has taken my order multiple times and I'm sure she has done it to others. The manager apologized for the disrespect of her co-worker and she would talk to her about the situation. I told her I was disrespected and treated unfairly and I wasn't leaving a tip this time. For the last two years I have been a customer, I have always tipped this restaurant for their service and food. The manager made brief pauses in between our conversation and really didn't sound as if she was going to look into the issue with her Co-worker. She sounded as if she didn't care. I knew once I said I wasn't leaving a tip, I wouldn't know what to expect. My husband took the picture of the plate before it arrived to me. Once my husband made it home, He gave me the receipt and on the receipt they charged me a $1 for adding egg to my rice and the egg was fried extra hard. The food was over cooked. The rice had too much soy sauce and greasy. The Chicken wings was darker than me. Hot Wok your food has always tasted great up until now, And your customer service is horrible and it should be as great as your food especially to customers who are loyal and friendly to you. My son loves shrimp fried rice but the place we usually get it from was closed so I remembered seeing this place once while looking for another place and decided to give it a whirl. Well let me just say, my picky son was not disappointed. I ordered a quart and asked for two plates and we were on our way. We sat in the car and ate and it was delicious. As I poured it from the container onto the plate, the shrimp just kept tumbling out. I apologized to my son for taking all the shrimp but they were not just on top, they were throughout so there were plenty left for him. We took care of our business and when we returned home, he asked me to warm up the rice. That's when I knew it was a hit! I will be back real soon and I plan on ordering more items. Whenever you want low cost Chinese food, this is your place. Weather it's the amazing prices for lunch specials or dinner specials, you'll never break the bank.
