Back in February, apparently I had accidentally parked in a handicap spot. the owner Dorothy Davis and getaround DID NOT say anything until I had to reach out two weeks later after they took it upon themselves to charge my card! I was unable to pay the debt until this month (May) and immediately my account was unrestricted. I booked a car days later with no problem. Contacted the owner at 6pm (1 HOUR BEFORE DROPOFF) in regard to her car not taking gas. She failed to reply until 6:44 (16 mins before dropoff) talking about parking!? She didn't bother to respond to me trying to get help with the gas. It took me until after the drop off time to find parking because she was no help. suddenly after contacting Getaround about this, I got charged for gas and my account was RESTRICTED AGAIN! Even after I paid they failed to unrestrict my account And won't even tell me why! Now they are Dismissing me! I will never recommend anyone using them! If I could give ZERO stars I would! The owner and getaround are both trifling! UPDATE: I received an email at 2:02AM saying my payment had failed. I thought Getaround was going to be a super convenient and relatively affordable option while my car was getting repaired, and I did think this until about six weeks AFTER my trip where I was suddenly finding duplicate toll charges of at least $25 each on my credit card. their policy clearly states that toll charges may be adjusted up to three weeks after a trip, but this is now six weeks later. I have been asking for a refund as it violates their policy and it is unreasonable to be paying nearly $100 in toll fees for a trip one state over and back, and they just send me the same corporate email from different accounts without actually acknowledging the information and attachments. The customer service ALONE makes me want to give them no stars, not to mention the unnecessary charges a month and a half later. read more

Giving a one have been far less than satisfactory due to lack of customer service and making Your customers jump Through hoops to receive simple assistance. The first issue was mild- charged for fuel even though I fueled the car. Submitted a ticket with no response ever. Second trip I discovered that the car smelled like marijuana and cigarettes (noted in my intake inspection) and also was full of trash. I disposed of the trash but I took photos and reported. Halfway through my trip I noticed a foul odor and discovered a bag of rotting trash in the trunk. I disputed this as well because frankly I was humiliated since it was discovered while visiting my mother. Last was the final straw. The night before Christmas even my trip was canceled by voicemail at 9pm with no effort to rebook me. Reason stated was that the car was impounded. I was thrown in a panic and also was very confused when I went on the app to see what my rebooking options were, to find the same car available but for DOUBLE the rate. I booked the next car I could afford only to get a text from the original car owner asking why I canceled! To be honest I felt confused as to why this person was texting me in the first place, but also then received a call from Getaround offering to help at 11pm. There was nothing they could do and the final solution was minimal returns of my money and no compensation for the incredible inconvenience this caused. Rideshare drivers - be aware that these cars are not ready for "ride with Uber" and there is no regard for earnings, driving time, or safety. Maintenance is NOT included or performed. Blown headlights/taillights, flat tire, brake warning lights etc. One vehicle had no rear brakes, bare pads were scraping loudly against the rotors with visible scoring. Support will provide two options - have the repair done at your cost and wait "2-5 business days" to be reimbursed, or return the car as it's taken offline and hope another one is available since no swap is arranged. (If you live in this area, you know how difficult it is to get vehicle service on short notice.) Next comes the vehicle condition. Rarely clean, personal belongings and fast food left behind, and half-filled gas tanks. You must spend the time, money, and lost earnings to clean the vehicle from the previous driver's mess or face additional fees, not to mention the impact on your ratings and tips if left dirty. Sure, getaround isn't responsible for a messy driver, but penalizing the next one into being a cleaning maid isn't a solution. Vehicles must be returned with a full tank of gas to avoid fees, but you'll hardly see a full tank at pickup time. You'll need to cover that difference and wait "2 to 5 business days" for reimbursement. (Most rental companies simply have vehicles returned with the same gas level the car had at pickup time. Seems to work.) Finally, the app can be slow and temperamental. See a common theme? If you're hoping to be on the road earning, prepare to 'getscrewed' and repeatedly taken off the road during periods of high demand, losing time and earnings. I have rented my car through getaround and rented a car through getaround. Both experiences have been AWFUL. Let's start with the former. I no longer need my car for work and still had an available spot so I thought, hey why not let's make a couple of $'s. The promotions and brand ambassadors claimed to make upwards of $800 per month (I'd be happy with $200) the website said they thoroughly screen drivers to make sure that your car is treated with respect, yadda yadda. None (read N.O.N.E.) of that is true. I had my first incident with a renter when they drove through a toll booth and the partition feel on the roof of my car. I received a photo of this, contacted the "claims" department to tell them of the incident- they had someone come out to look at it who claimed it was probably a tree branch. I told them it was definitely not and they said I could either pay their insurance co-pay or I could use mine because it would most likely be cheaper. They eventually gave in and paid for all repairs, after taking my car for a month and not receiving any money for lost rentals nor did they offer me credit for an alternative car I could use in the meantime. This past month, someone blew the clutch on my car, so it was taken to a tow lot. I was never notified that my car had any issues until I called asking where it was. They then said "it is currently at a preferred vendor and we'll reach out as soon as we have more information" Long story short they never reached out, I had to call them 14 times to get any information on where my car was and what was going on with the vehicle. Around the 12th the email I started to ask for a manager to reach out and have an honest discussion of what exactly is going on, how it got to this stage and next steps on how to remedy the situation. THAT NEVER HAPPENED. Instead, it's been a constant game of, "we'll call you back" "oh, sorry the claims department is not available" "We'll email you with timelines" It's currently been 30 days with no full explanation of what exactly happened to my car, or when I'll see my car again. Oh, and that's just renting out my car through this service. Let's talk about being on the other side- RENTING A CAR THROUGH GETAROUND Enticing Pricing & Hidden Fees. $5/hour sounds great, oh wait, that includes nothing, even less than nothing, you have limited miles. $5/hour can easily lead to $30+ an hour. The photos posted of cars are not of the actual cars you are renting, I repeat NOT of the actual cars you are renting. The shiny Prius I rented was dinged and dented on the outside with a horrible interior, nothing close to the luxurious interior I was promised from the photos. The Prius was also next to impossible to find as I had to navigate my way through a parking garage for 30 min as the instructions were less than clear. Once on the road, the radio didn't work and then the key died, so I had to fish out $20 on a new car key battery in order to operate the vehicle. I tried contacting the owner to tell her about these issues and never received a response, I then noticed she owns most of the cars in the Boston Getaround app, which just seems WEIRD. In conclusion, I would not trust this company with your own private assets such as your car. They take no care nor responsibility for who handles your vehicle while someone is renting it, nor do they seem to realize that their business model would not operate without generous and willing people choosing to loan their expensive assets. When a renter may decide to wreck your car, Getaround will essentially steal your asset, not inform you that it is has been taken away or what the timelines for returning your own possession back to you will be. Either their VC funding didn't extend far enough to pay for a dedicated customer support team who can act as an account manager for you, or they chose to divert funding away from this business sector - may be to office beanbags or more *exciting* merch (I'm holding out for the next freebie to be an apology - but perhaps that's asking too much). All in all, I have made money from Getaround *technically*, but that has been fraught with many trips to the garage, my own asset being taken away from me for months of a time (without compensation or explanation), and then having to use said profit to pay for a rental car to ship me about while they dilly dally around with *fixing* it. This has been my own personal experience, perhaps you'll have a better luck than I did, but I wouldn't hold my breath. Thankfully a few new competitors are cropping up which I can try out without regret nor guilt for the future of Getaround. read more

Getaround, from an owner's perspective, has been an awful experience, especially if you have a nice car and want to keep it that way. I have 2 of my cars on Getaround, 1 is a low-cost car that I don't really care so much when it gets bumper scrapes or wheel damage. The second was a mint condition luxury car, that after 1 month on Getaround was damaged almost everywhere, bumpers, wheels, tires, body; everything. Even the car manual went missing and the last renter to use it didn't return the key!!! The biggest complaint is dealing with their claims department. They sometimes take weeks to respond. It's 6 weeks since my car was damaged by numerous Getaround renters, and they still haven't resolved the claim. Oh, and lastly, the payouts that you get on Getaround are very, very low. Here in Boston, you can't even set the price. I once had someone rent my car for an hour and the payout was something like $1 - I kid you not! I've used them about 3 times in Boston (2 short trips and a weekend road trip) and once in San Francisco (weekend road trip). It's been great for a quick rental for moving/picking up furniture. For the longer rentals, it's great because it's usually cheaper than a rental agency and I get 24/7 access to a car if I'm picking up/dropping off at odd hours of the day (meanwhile Enterprise or Hertz usually closes by 6pm and each location has different schedules). I had a weird experience in San Francisco where the Prius car battery died overnight after we picked it up, and we could not figure out what had happened. We didn't feel comfortable with keeping the car so as soon as it was jump started, we changed to another car on Getaround. I called GetAround 3 times and spoke with different customer service representatives each time - one to get the tow company to come and jump start the car, one to change cars, and another to avoid additional charges for mileage (your rental includes 200 miles per day and since our trip had to be split between 2 cars, our mileage cap decreased and would result in us paying the additional 50 cents per mile over the cap). I was able to get a refund or credit for the time I didn't use the faulty car (including the 4-5 hours the car was not usable while waiting for the tow truck to arrive during the San Francisco Bay to Breakers marathon on a Sunday), a discount to avoid the mileage cap, and a promo code for the inconvenience. Overall the cars have been very reliable, but the San Francisco experience was a little odd. Getaround itself had great service to make up for it all. Pros: - Immediate confirmation to book a car rather than waiting for owner's confirmation in apps like Turo ( I tried to rent in Turo twice and both the times owner didn't respond, whereas in Getaround it was immediate confirmation. - Simple process to rent, do a simple vehicle check, click photos and upload the pics where damages / scratches found and you can start using it! - Return the car clean and you are good to go! Cons: - For first time users, it is not clear how to unlock the car and find the keys. I had to call the customer service and find it. - Also the process to return was also not well defined. Car gets auto locked at its defined time! - No flexibility to get the car where you wanted, rather you will have to go and find the car. - I landed in Boston Airport, had to take an uber / lift to where Getaround car is parked and then had to start my trip. Customer service model makes no sense actually. The only way to contact these people is via a request online. They then schedule a time to call you. If you miss their call, you can't even call back since the number is outgoing only. You then have to put in another request for another scheduled time. All this to simply get a refund for a car we rented had knife puncture wounds in the tires. Why make contacting you so hard? Save money on call centers? Getaround charged me for pre-existing damage on an owner's car that I did not cause. There were plenty of photos from each of the trips (December 15, 2021, August 25, 2021, and July 7, 2021) I had taken with the car with notes about the large cracks/ dents in particular. I did not note a few scratches among the already extensive exterior damage to the car and after December 15, 2021, Getaround and the owner decided to charge me $1578.29 for scratches on the front fender passenger side, the rear quarter panel passenger side, and on the passenger side front door. I know I did not cause these scratches during my trip because some of them are within the deep dents already on the car that were photo documented and reported to Getaround prior to the start of each trip. If there were collisions, I would have reported them myself because I do things by the book and believe in respect and honesty. Furthermore, I am required to take photos of the car after each trip to prove I did not cause additional damage-- the photos were all taken around 10PM at night-- dark and at the instructed angles. I did not take additional photos of the damaged areas since I did not cause them and I had documented them before the trips began. Given the pre-existing damage on the car, I still chose to take the risk of renting it because it operates fine and figured the owner was not bothering to fix the car. Getaround also did not notify me that with the investigation, my account status changed and I was unable to rent cars-- almost impacting my ability to get transportation to a regular commitment. In the past, Getaround also failed to notify me even though they knew a rental car had a dead battery. Switching to another car was a hassle and the car location was so far that we had to take a Lyft to get there. I was late to my commitment and Getaround did not refund me for this incident. read more

I apologize in advance for the long statement, but if you really want to avoid unfairness I would suggest to take a quick view of this review. I would love to give a zero or even a negative value review but since the minimum is one I will still take it, and this is just to say how inconvenient is this "carpooling" system. I used to rent a lot cars with Zipcar since I started giving a try to these applications, nothing to say about it just that its price was kinda double when I learned about Getaround. I liked so much at the beginning because the prices were way lower and it made sense for me paying that since I was using the car for short period of times. After a while it turned that people in the area where getting the cars for long period of time just to work as Uber drivers, which I totally understand as people business mind set but the company allowing this just limit other users to carshare since there is some monopolized use. Once I rented a car for the 4th of July with three days in advance because I never had a road trip to NH and I wanted to do it during a special event like the 4th. But two minutes before the reservation starts the owner cancelled my reservation, apologized and gave me 15 dollars credit which still is not worthy for all the colateral damage. Last but not least, after my last experience I decided not to use anymore that app for a while but I gave it a try few days ago for a Halloween weekend. I rented a car two train stations away of my current location, because as I mentioned before, now it's almost impossible to find cars in the area since everyone is taking it to Uber. Therefore I took the train to go to the pick up location and I found that that the car wasn't there, it was two miles away bc a previous driver did not bring it back on time, I understood that might happened to me so I didn't take it bad and call for help to Getaround. After 10 minutes of finally someone answering, I got offered another vehicle, and I said yes since I was already away from home and just ready to go so they gave me another one with 15 dollars off for two more hours. Once I finished I took the car back to the location, clean and with the tank full of gas as it is supposed to, but few minutes ago I got an email with an extra charge of 50 dollars because I parked the car in a wrong spot and I can tell you, if the car was supposed to be parked on 7 I parked on 6, and not because I wanted, it was because the guy on the phone never told me about this specific since it was not a car I took, it was a car that gave me. I didn't leave the park in an illegal spot to deserve 50 dollars charge, that is really unfair. For that reason I do not recommend Getaround at all, unless you have an emergency and there's not more options around. But it would be better to stick with Zipcar since they are more proactive and they don't hesitate on credit you unfair charges. read more

We only had the standard Getaround insurance because we were in Massachusetts and Getaround customer service was non-responsive so we settled the issue outside of Getaround. Suddenly two months later, we get a charge to our account for an incident we already paid for. I've tried to contact Getaround continuously and their insurance company several times and they were completely unresponsive. It's just not worth it - will never rent from Getaround again. read more

Someone else decide to smoke up my car with cigarettes and marijuana. Getaround ended up sending me $100 to get it cleaned (which wasn't enough) and my car was deactivated for over a month. It took quite a few emails and phone calls to get customer service to take this seriously. A few months ago, someone drove to the beach with their dog and returned my car wet and full of dog hair. I had to cancel rentals for the next few days so I could go get it cleaned. Customer service was basically unresponsive. Another renter left my car unlocked after they returned it (with they key in it) and someone broke into my car that night. Luckily, whoever broke in didn't realize the key was in the car so I only had some spare change stolen. Not a huge deal but Getaround told me that they couldn't help me because it didn't occur during a rental. My last experience as an owner has been around the Go Time Guarantee that Getaround rolled out this year. My car was estimated to earn an additional $500 each month I participated. The guidelines read that "your car may not be blocked off for more than 2 weekdays." I blocked my car off on 1 weekday and then I put two blocks on another weekday so my car was unavailable for a total of 2 weekdays for the month. Getaround claims that since I had 2 blocks on the same day, it counts as an extra day blocked off and eliminates my car from receiving the bonus. Normally, I wouldn't be so upset but I was planning on participating in this guarantee so instead of blocking my car off, I rented other cars through Getaround thinking I would just earn that money back when I received the bonus... I've been emailing customer service for a month trying to understand these hidden messages and I've gotten no help. After the 10th the email I started to ask for a manager to reach out and have an honest discussion of what exactly is going on, how it got to this stage and next steps on how to remedy the situation. THAT NEVER HAPPENED. Instead, the reps just keep saying "there are three blocks on your calendar." Yes, I know there are three blocks but my car was only unavailable for two days. They also like to send me a link to the guidelines which doesn't match the guidelines that I saw. The terrible customer service is what makes this experience the most frustrating. I wouldn't recommend renting your car out on Getaround, especially if you have a nicer car that you are trying to keep in good shape. The owner's provide a much needed service hands down at and affordable rate, but some renter's have no respect for the service being provided. Getaround has always given me immediate attention to any of my concerns or problems, it's not the service fault if a previous renter didn't return the car clean damage free or with a full tank of gas as instructed. I have experienced the car not being in the right location but was given another rental, did it cause some frustration yes but not towards getaround. Getaround is the worst experience I have ever had with a company in my entire life. I rented a car through getaround for less than a day (I just needed to travel to a nearby town for the day in order to take a medical licensing exam). When I first got to the car that morning I noticed it smelled like smoke, and I and documented this in the app before starting the trip. The windows were cracked open when I arrived at the car which was probably because someone who used it before me was trying to air it out. Later I am checking my bank account and see that getaround directly charged me a $500 (five hundred!!!) smoking fee! I do not even smoke! I spent at least 8 hours on the phone calling them numerous times and repeatedly explaining how seriously they had messed up, but the customer service was truly awful, incompetent, and all for show. They eventually closed the help ticket without giving me my $500 back. Theft, plain and simple. Getaround should be ashamed. Don't use this company, ever. Getaround has policies that are a gross abuse of the contract/policy. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY. I rented a car which was my first time trying this new company; I was then charged almost 300.00 for a 4 hour rental!!!!! They charged me for a tow and told me policy was a renter is responsible for a car 24 HOURS AFTER IT IS RETURNED!!! I requested the tow receipt which took a MONTH! Once I received the receipt the tow happened over and HOUR or my "responsibility". Getaround still refused to refund me the money, stating because of the ticket the care was still my responsibility. If you need it for more than a day trip, rates are usually better (for a better car) at a rental car agency. -App is pretty easy to reserve and use. -Quick pick-up process. -Locations of cars are convenient and are located all over town. -Customer service (on the phone) is typically very good. Cons: -Serious inconsistency with car quality. I don't mind if the car is a bit dirty, but it happens way to often that cars have check engine lights, need oil replaced, have bald tires, and other maintenance issues. It's also annoying how often these cars reek of marijuana. -Why doesn't Getaround let me know when the car I am supposed to pick up in 15 minutes is 40 miles away and thus clearly will not be at the pickup location on time!? It has happened several times for me when I am on my to the home location, only to discover that the car is nowhere near where it is supposed to be and is still being used by a previous renter. Unfortunately, you can only see the location of the car 15 minutes before your reservation starts. I understand that other users might not return the car on-time, but it is incredibly frustrating that the app (which knows the location of the car!) doesn't give the user any advance warning that there might be an issue. This is a tech problem that has a tech solution that I have reported multiple times over the past 3 years and there has been no change. The bottom line is that I will continue using the service for its convenience, (often) decent prices, and good customer service. But I can't recommend them if you have an important appointment that you need to get to. The number of vehicles with disappointing maintenance and potential safety issues, and occasional but serious issues with picking up vehicles makes the service somewhat unreliable. read more

This is possibly one of the worst rental car experiences that I have ever had. We rented a car to go on a weekend trip about an hour outside the city. We get to the car and take it on the freeway. The engine is not working right. The car can't even get to 60 miles an hour. We return the car and try to contact Getaround. Can't get ahold of anyone so rent a second Getaround because we're already really late. Arrive at this second car and it's filthy. There is old food in the car. Dirt everywhere and it smells like smoke. We decide to take it because at this point we're Hours behind schedule. We continue to try to reach out to customer service. Finally, we get ahold of them but it takes over an hour of talking to different people to get a refund for the first car. Then their solution for the second car is that we can take it to a car wash on our vacation. We decide to just live with it. We return home and get the bill. We got charged $80 for tolls. The actual tolls are only about $15 but they charge a fee for every single time it passes through the system. So if you do decide to rent from them, you should factor in about 4x the toll costs. Overall, I won't be using this company again. The amount of added stress and horrible customer service is not worth any ease of initial rental. read more

TRASHHHHHH!!! They finally sent me a damage fee for a damage I did not do. They said they looked at my photos before and after and found nothing. They used pictures from owner to finally make decision. I was charged for repairs (that I was not even given a receipt at that) and $200 fee for damages not reported....How can I report damages if I did not see any!!! Use TURO read more

Literally been using get around for 3 months I loved it and depended on it the customer service was great before they took off phones. I ordered a new debit card go to add it to my account it says I'm being investigated. So I contact them they basically tell me they can't tell me anything and to go and try somewhere else.They didn't try to verify me like any normal company literally just banned me and Ive had no way to work for past 4 days, and now when I respond and ask to get it sorted they close my conversation everytime with no response(can show proof). I HAVE LITERALLY DONE NOTHING WRONG THIS IS NOT RIGHT! I try to login through my uber account again and it ask me to verify (the lady doesn't tell me to try that like a helpful customer service rep) so It ask for a picture of my ID and take a selfie and we'll contact you I've gotten no response and my tickets keep getting closed this is not fair and not write I see a lady here trying to be more helpful than getaround/help reps. I love and need get around to work please respond Annette, Response to comment: you guys aren't explaining anything to me. The only thing your explaining is you want me to use somewhere else after 3 months and me not doing anything wrong you can't even send me a email explaining what was done wrong you guys are saying "we recommend you go somewhere else for security reason we can't say why. You have my email address and I'm linked through uber there's 0 reason you can't explain to me you have my License my picture.
