Geta Xpress is technically a Japanese fast food restaurant but I was still looking forward to having some good sushi for lunch. We went around 12:30pm but it wasn't very busy inside at all, maybe one or two other tables of people and two drive-thru orders the whole time we were there. The gentleman at the front counter was quite friendly and even assisted us in figuring out what to order. We finally settled on a spicy tuna roll ($4) and a two entree combo plate with tempura shrimp/veggies and spicy chicken ($7). The combo plate was nothing special although the tempura was pretty good. Everything else was of standard quality. The chow mein and spicy chicken (which was pretty spicy) were something you might expect at an average Chinese restaurant, even though Geta is Japanese. There was also a small salad with the combo. We were told to wait a few extra minutes for our sushi, no problem since my husband said that's normal. Unfortunately it ended up taking 20-30 minutes and my husband going back up to the front counter to get the other half of our order. I was already pretty disappointed having to wait so long for a simple spicy tuna roll and was more disappointed when I saw it. It came out very small and messy looking, like they hurried to make it because they forgot about us and felt bad. It tasted pretty good but I couldn't ignore the fact that we had waited a half hour for something so lack luster especially considering they weren't very busy. Overall I wasn't impressed much by the food here or the wait time for the other half of our order (perhaps the drive-thru would be faster?) but the service was very friendly and for $12 we got enough for the both of us. There is always a wait on our food. Also, the service is very slow. When the food came out, my coworkers and I gave it a bite, one of my coworker had hard rice in his Katsu Curry Bowl. My sushi had some hard clear glass noodle looking things. Overall, it was a horrible experience. Never again. Additionally, when I go in there are so many new employees. Previously before all the new employees, a guy name Tony would greet warmly and when he cooked my food it was always great and never had a problem. I ate here today for lunch. I ordered the nigiri combo, 2 pieces of additional tuna nigiri and miso ramen with chashu pork. It came to $27 which I thought was a little pricy. The fish was fresh but I was not impressed with the ramen soup. It was quite bland and the chashu was mostly fat. Everything was served in flimsy plastic containers and I was given a tiny plastic spoon for the soup, even though I dined in. The service was friendly and I would love to give a higher rating, but I left disappointed and only finished about half of the soup. Getaxpress was recommended to me by a co-worker who swore by them so I was obviously expecting the place to at least be decent. First red flag was when my 4 sushi rolls came out 1 giant container, something I've never seen before and seemed just kind of lazy and since it was being shared I had to ask for extra containers in case of left overs. I ended up eating about half a roll and left the rest. They LOADED the rolls up with sauce to the point that the deep fried roll was completely soggy and had practically no crunch left. The sauce was also way too sweet, to the point that it made me sick to think about eating more. I'm not sure if it was the sauces or the sushi itself but something didn't sit well with me and I felt sick the entire rest of the evening after eating here. The styrene trays used for the bentos are recycleable, but the cups for their superb miso soup and some drinks are foam, and are not. I have had much fancier and more expensive Japanese food but we've been coming to Geta for the last 30 years because it's just so tasty. In my meat eating days I loved the Geta chicken and beef bowl but now I appreciate all the vegetarian options. Food is fresh, clean and tasty. It's a little bit pricey but the portion is enough for quick full meals. Staff are friendly and the place is clean and neat as well. Gave it three stars because it could have been a lot cleaner for a restaurant. Overall the food was good. Pros: food was fresh and affordable. I had a chicken teriyaki bowl and it was good. My son and my sister has the combo plate. The noodles were average but not bad at all. The tempura veggies came with a dipping sauce and were very good. Nobody eats it or wants it. We ordered combos which were really weak. Almost nothing in the fried rice - itty bitty pieces of egg and mystery meat. Tempura was highlight of combo. People at home wouldn't even eat grey Teryiaki beef. Asked for the best roll and was sold the deluxe roll. Very short. Very sloppy not beautiful like sushi usually is.Quality of fish poor. I left California 4 years ago with a not-so-good experience...four years later, I come back and it tastes the same. They're really Japanese, but the cooking doesn't reflect it. I've had better Udon in Okinawa (obviously), but still. The taste, I believe, was altered to adhere to the American taste. It isn't exactly the Japanese food that I know, but it does alright. I lived in Japan for 2 years. I've lived in Hanford for the last 6 I love Geta Express. People are always nice, Food reminds me of home cooking in japan. It's been adapted for the American palate but i can't blame them. They have ok sushi, great Katsu, and Miso when I crave it. Whenever I can't decide what I want for lunch I head to Geta.
