In the middle of the coldest weeks if the year our okiyggggg no furnace was blowing cold air. We rent so landlord had this company come out, who stated it was the heating kit and yes this is an older furnace and instead trying to fix said they can't get the part but instead would offer us a $10,000 unit instead, otherwise couldn't fix the furnace temps below zero instead they'd leave customers without any heat source. Smh we finally found another company who found the problem Which was when changing the batteries just plugged in thermostat wrong!!!!! G.F Bowman worked on my neighbor's property and the place is a mess! Their work area was left sloppy, with mud and dirt residue from heavy machinery in the roadway and storm drain. Another neighbor told me he had to call the local police on this crew because he almost had a vehicle accident due to their wonky and hazardous parking and leaving equipment in the roadway. They also left a dump truck, trailer, and heavy machinery in front of my house all day, blocking my mailbox, despite parking available just 10 feet away. This blocked a USPS delivery to my home with medication for a disabled military veteran living here. When I pointed out the blocked mailbox and asked the technician to move the equipment, he was confrontational and tried to pick a fight, making bizarre remarks about how he was "in his first rodeo" and making aggressive motions toward me (his speech and erratic behavior indicated that he was likely intoxicated). When I called the G.H. Bowman Office to request assistance, they were unwilling or unable to help and just blew me off. My experience with GF Bowman is that they are unprofessional, a potential danger to public safety, and have utter disregard for everything and everyone except their own convenience and profit margins. read more

Had a air conditioner failure at 10:30PM on a Friday night. Contacted Bowman on the service line and by 8AM received a call to schedule a technician Saturday. Rates were explained and by 10AM technician arrived. He quickly troubled shoot the problem and had the air conditioner up and running in no time. Excellent service read more

We've been on very costly Emergency Heat the past 2 days and a space heater. Today cost an additional $387. So our aging heat pump has cost us just shy of $1000 and considerable pain and suffering. If I had not called Bowman's today to follow up, since we'd heard nothing from them, no one would have come til at least tomorrow, if ever. One hand did not seem to know what the other was doing there. The lady I spoke to today, after fully explaining the situation of our past 3 days, told me she had been on vacation and knew nothing about it. Who does business like that? Service tech was on time, and professional. Work done on a 24K Btu mini split unit, flared 4 connections, pressure tested the lines and charged coolant, the tech was done in less that 2hrs, cost was $502.00 seemed a bit salty, next time I will shop around a bit better read more

I was not informed of replacement costs in order to agree to the dispatch fee with knowledge. The service technician agree that the dispatch fee should have been waived. Technician was honest confirming same unit was available at lowes for hundreds of dollars less. If the number one rule is to replace a garbage disposal leaking water, for which the call center was informed, providing the replacement charge was warranted in order for the customer to make a sound decision on dispatch. This bait and switch technique is dishonest and fraught. read more

I purchased two toilets from Home Depot and was looking for a plumber just to install and haul away the old toilets. Thought and budgeted for it to cost $5-600 and was given an estimate of $1520 (plus show up fee of $79). Seriously? These folks are a highway rip off!!! Dave and Caleb were great! The took time to explain my complicated tankless combination water heater and boiler, showing me and tagging the various shutoff valves in case of an emergency. They patiently answered all my questions and performed the annual maintenance steps. I will be using this company for the maintenance of my air conditioner as well. I no longer do business with this company. They give potential customers a run around about cost. I need to have the faucet/valve connect to my washing machine changed; the valve no longer closes to shut off the water supply. One of the hoses is leaking and needs to be changed but I can't do it because I can't shut off the water. Bowman's office personnel told me it would be $89 for someone to arrive at my house, look at the situation, and then quote me a price. She completely refused to tell me approximately how much it would cost to change the faucet/valve. Another plumbing company was very reliable, told me it would cost $155 for their worker to come to my house and do the first hour of work. After the first hour they charge in 15 minute increments. Since I know everything is accessible and this is an easy job for a plumber, my cost should be about $155 total or maybe up to $195. On the other hand, Bowman's owner/office personnel treat customers with complete disrespect giving me no idea how much it might cost until I have already spent $89. How much might it cost on top of the $89? No one will tell me. I am not willing to take the chance with them. I used to do business with Bowman and, in the past, found the service personnel who came to my house to be pleasant and knowledgeable. But the change in pricing procedures has revealed that this is NOT a company that treats customers with honesty and respect. I won't do business with them any more. read more

The work that was done was great; the person that came to the house kept everything clean/was polite/etc. The three stars are for the following: * They charge a $79 service fee for coming out to the house. Now, I totally get a business charging something to cover off on their time, especially if I decided not to have them do the work to fix the issue. Having said that, this fee does not get applied to any actual work that gets done after they diagnose the problem. I've never had that be the case with a service provider. You pay the $79 and on top of that, you pay the full price they quote to actually fix the problem. * Our main issue was a cracked garbage disposal, which we ended up having them replace. That was good. While the technician was here, however, I asked to get a quote for a clogged toilet. This was something that my husband was confident he could fix with a plunger, but having moved to the area relatively recently, we didn't have one in the house. I figured while an expert was here, might as well see what it would be to fix it. The quote I received was $181! I think this is ridiculous. We moved from Los Angeles, arguably what is considered an expensive city. The most I've ever paid to have a toilet cleared is $150, and that was through a chain which was not typically known to have the best prices in town. Passed on having that service done, bought a $15 plunger, problem solved. * I got a pretty hard sell on their warranty service. They check all your plumbing for a fee and your $79 service fee gets waived for any future work. I passed. Three times, because it kept getting brought up. In a pinch, I would use them again from a quality of service standpoint, but I'm not on board with their pricing. I understand that you get what you pay for, but having moved from a large city where costs were not low, I am shocked at how expensive their prices are. read more

He fixed my very old unit, checked it for weak spots and then explained in layman's terms the corrections needed. I found a water mark on my ceiling at 4:30PM and called GF Bowman right away. Since it wasn't an emergency, they scheduled me for a service call the next day at 10:00AM. My service tech was Chris Arnold who promptly arrived at 10:00AM. He quickly identified a leaking toilet and provided me an upfront estimate to do the repair. He was able to do all the repairs on the spot and even tuned up my other two toilets at no charge. He was very clean too, wearing shoe covers and putting down a carpet in the area where he was working to collect any dirt. Very happy with the service! read more

My TPAC unit stopped working two months ago. The initial technician who came out tried but could not get the unit working again. I was not suprised due to the age of the unit. That is when the good customer service ended. Another individual came out and I specifically said I wanted a white unit and was told yes that is what they come in. when they finally arrived with the unit, it was beige not white. I contacted the TPAC maker and was told they do not make white units. You would think Bowman would have checked this out before they ordered the unit. When I said I wanted a white one, I was told they would check it out. After waiting for many phones not returned, and another another person come out to look at the unit, I am still waiting for a white unit. Bowman replaced our heat pump in 2012, about 3 months later the circuit breaker they installed for the outside unit shorted in the main electrical panel. 1 month after that, the circuit breaker they installed for the indoor unit shorted. Fortunately I was home both times as there was significant arcing each time. Neither circuit breaker was rated for use in my panel, and were from a manufacturer that stopped making breakers in the 90's. G.F. Bowman refused to stand behind their work and turned it over to their insurance company, Erie, who said there was no proof the incorrect circuit breakers that most likely were used caused the short. So, paid them $12k for the install and they refused to cover $1,100 to repair their work. If you want to risk having your home burn down, use them. If not, find someone else. read more

G.F. Bowman installed our new furnace and air conditioning service 3 years ago. They did a fairly good job with the replacement, but they overlooked a fairly significant detail: Cold air in the new airconditiong service was escaping from the ductwork near the furnace after they were finished. I had to call them back to resolve this issue, which they did by wrapping the ductwork with metallic tape. We also have them inspect our heating and air conditioning every spring and fall. They do a good job with that. They do the work at a fair price. They show up on time for their appointments. They are generally very personable. One of their technicians was a bit aggressive trying to sell us their maintenace contract, which we never buy. Other than that, their technicians are usually very easy going and considerate of your home. They wear booties when they come into the house, but they keep them on when they go outside. Not sure what kind of protection they are providing to your home when they go in and out of your home with the booties on. I always put carpet protection down on our carpeting where they will need to walk to go to the thermostat. Overall, they do a good job at a fair price and are very responsive. Terrible business practices. Boiler off, regular company was backed up, googled and got Bowman because its high in the alphabet. I asked how much it would be and the receptionist said well there is a $69 dispatch fee but otherwise there is no way to know... except when the service person got to my home, before looking at anything, he began writing an estimate including a $266.diagnostic fee and part and installation $450 to $470. I asked the technician if the diagnostic fee is the same every boiler and he said well, i said then why doesnt the office advise that upfront? He said, she advised you of the dispatch fee? I said yes. He said well there is your paper and my number is there if you need them. I said you are leaving because of a bad business practcie, if i had known the fee upfront i may have paid it. Additionally, i want it to be on your concious that we are going the night with no heat because i cancelled the regular company. I read a similar review earlier. AND.. my regular company came at 8 am and laughed at the diagnostic fee, AND fixed my boiler for $188 total.
