Obviously you can't bring these condiments inside. I skipped the lettuce and use their coleslaw as a topping on a sandwich I made after eating the other half of the huge filet. Remember they put pineapple chunks in their coleslaw which gives it quite a different taste. Holy cow. After searching this state from one end to the other for a GOOD chicken-fried steak, I've finally found one. Procured across the parking lot from Penshorn's meat market, one of the finest purveyors of dead animal flesh in South Texas, then hand-tenderized and breaded in the kitchen, this monster that weighed at least a pound was cooked extra crispy as requested and served with mashed potatoes, cream gravy, tomato and cucumber salad, and a basket of fresh not-from-a-big-bakery bread. My only regret was that I was able to finish just more than half of it. After far too many CFS imitations that came pre-breaded and frozen on a truck, this one went far toward restoring my faith in small-town Texas cafes. Yummy. read more

Tried this little gem out and was not disappointed! All of the staff was welcoming and the food is fantastic! I loved the little town feel with its comfort style food. Had the fried green tomatoes with ranch...mmmm, Salisbury steak with mashed potatoes and cheeseburger. They also make several home made pies that were all wonderful. What's not to like about a home town, not chain restaurant. They are nice people that make good food and have good portions da' boot. Today's feast was chicken fried chicken with mashed potatoes cream gravy and a side salad. My chicken was cooked perfectly and moist. Our son had chicken strips that were the best he has had in a long time. With homemade sauerkraut and another side. That sauerkraut was the bomb. My wife's fried catfish was plentiful and gone! To top it off we split a piece of chocolate cake. Then to top that off, we purchased a loaf of their bread to take home. Pleasantly full but not weighed down. I ordered $44 worth of burgers and I asked for no onions, it comes with lettuce tomato and onion) I got them home and there wasn't anything else except meat cheese and mayo. We loved this quaint little restaurant in Marion, TX. Great food and great service! My hubby loved his hoagie and I loved the catfish. Batter was light and fluffy. This place has gone downhill since being sold by the original owners. Their burgers use to be great when the meat came from Penshorn's Meat Market. Now they're dry bland frozen patty Mickey D wanna be's at twice the price. Placed a phone in order tonight for a enchilada plate and 2 burgers with no cheese. Got home to find 2 cheeseburgers and a chicken fried steak which explained why I was overcharged by $10.00. We're locals and have dined at Goerke's since they were on Weil Rd. before moving into town and this isn't the first recent instance of overcharging and screwing up orders but it will be the last! read more

This place was recommended to my wife when she shopped at Charlotte's Country, an antique shop. It was lunch time, and we decided to give it a try. We are very happy we did. My wife had the chicken fried chicken with mashed potatoes and fried okra, I had the chicken fried steak with mashed potatoes and green beans. We shared our plates. Everything was delicious. Not only was the food outstanding, the service was excellent as well. All of the servers were friendly, especially Ginger. Afterward we talked to the owner, who was very personable as well. Love this local place! Food is great, staff is quick and friendly. They are very accommodating as well! The only downside is their business hours and that they are closed on certain days, but I was told recently that they are expanding their hours! Driving home we decided to go by the drive thru for dessert. I had been wanting german chocolate cake and was told their chef had made it for the first time. To my surprise it was absolutely delicious! German chocolate is my favorite cake so I am extremely picky. I would have preferred the coconut frosting all over as opposed to some chocolate but I know many chefs make it this way! I will definitely be asking for it next time we visit! Great job! read more

This is a very unique little western style restaurant offering all kinds of food; however both my husband I were dissatisfied with our meals. I had bbq beef hoagie. Bread and sauce were real good, but chunks of beef were very tough or fatty. My husband had breaded pork steak, horrible, tough meat and doughy. Gravy was good. Desserts are very good. I've been eating here since they first opened, and I've never had a bad meal! I love the Cajun Catfish and the Fried Chicken! The side vegetables are always fresh and very tasty. The service is always friendly and welcoming no matter how busy they get. Great place to stop for a great meal in a nice environment.
