The fatteh is creamy , the shakshouka is packed full of flavour and the manakeesh is all the right spots of crispy and delicious. So fresh and flavourful. And their karak chai is AMAZING. We came here on a Thursday night with high expectation for authentic Lebanese food. The place looked the part - regulars idling about outside, a constant stream of takeaway with delicious smelling meats, and groups of families and friends enjoying their evening in the messy yet homely sit down restaurant. Unfortunately I left with a strong sense of disappointment. We ordered beef shawarma that was dry and dull (though I concede that if we had gotten the house made hot sauce it would have likely been fire), and then ordered two skewers of shrimp with some sides. The seafood is served from a secondary restaurant to the beef/ chicken one - and though they didn't seem incredibly busy, we waited 45 minutes for two skewers! The more frustrating aspect was that I definitely saw people order and receive their food before me. When I asked, I was told that people had preordered food before coming, and while that may be the case I refuse to believe that two skewers took 45 minutes. I would have understood if someone told me they forgot about my order or they had a problem with the kitchen, but none such explanation happened. They didn't even apologize and the cashier seemed to actively avoid me, and instead busied herself by chatting with friends or cleaning up the odd table. In the end we only received the food after we actively started to leave without it. If there was a friendlier service experience I would go back and give them a second chance, but the cashier's attitude really put me in a bad place. Had the "viral" sujuk shawarma. It was so viral it was not on the on-premise menu & I only found out about it because I went online. Sujuk shawarma bowl: the sujuk shawarma was more tender & moist than sujuk. It was a generous meat portion & moist & tasty. The flavour profile being different to shawarma was nice too. The sauces were very generous. Garlic sauce was pretty garlicky & Ghadir sauce was sweet but didn't seem to have character. Both were very creamy. Ghadir is a long standing restaurant/grocery story at the corner of Lawrence and pharmacy. They have meats and restaurants side, a seating area with multiple tables to eat and a fish and seafood side. Inside can be a bit chaotic, the layout is not super intuitive but the staff are there to help amidst the busy ness. We got the mixed shawarma plate, the chicken and beef were fresh and plentiful although I felt a little underseasoned. It was sitting on a bed of rice which was cooked well. Side of pickles and pickled turnips, coleslaw like salad. Comes with garlic sauce and hummus - both were amazing. The pita bread is nice too. We ask for some hot sauce on the side which was very good. Overall, the food was fresh and tasty. You can get almost anything and everything there! They're known for their shawarmas, but also offer kebabs and manakeesh among other things. Their portions are pretty good, always adds a lot of meat and sides. Taste wise, I think they're good. I feel like I've had better kebabs with more char but still really good! The chicken Tawook wasn't as flavourful as it could be but the lamb was really really good. The kafta skewers weren't as soft the last time I went but will try again. Atmosphere - 4/5 It's a restaurant combined with a grocery store/meat market. They have a separate seating area that is connected to their fish restaurant. It's almost always feels chaotic there but it's a nice market style vibe. Service - 4/5 The staff is generally nice but I did have an issue with pickup. Called and ordered and came in 30 minutes after and found out that they didn't even start, had to wait another 15 minutes. The cook was super apologetic though so I appreciate that, but I would be careful about ordering pickup. I did it on the site, so I recommend doing it by phone instead. Will I go again? Literally a hole in the wall type place. You can order food from a counter behind a grocery store. Sounds weird but don't let that deter you because the food is so good! So good, it gets so busy especially the parking lot! But you wait in that line because the chicken shawarma, one of the best I ever had. Had the thick cut fries inside. The flavours all come together perfectly, dressed in that strong garlicky sauce and thick hummus held together in the warm wrap. Having the chicken shawarma plate is my go to. Wow! The roast chicken here is phenomenal and so lovely to enjoy right there on the spot. It gets really busy the but the staff are always so kind and helpful doing it all with a smile on their face. I can't believe I never heard of this place, and what is so interesting when you go in they have two different restaurants one is a fish restaurant and then a meat market where they sell shawarmas, right when I went in this place was jam packed you couldn't even stand, so what does that tell me, it means this place is legit. I got the beef and chicken shawarma wrap mixed loaded with everything imaginable and fries, vegetables all the hot sauce, pomegranate molasses, garlic sauce, spicy garlic and we got side of French fries and yellow rice. The one bad thing about my neighborhood is its lack of top-notch Middle Eastern restaurants, so I was excited to make the trek out to North York for some quality shawarma. We'd heard that Ghadir had a terrific selection of Middle Eastern eats, so we popped in on a recent Saturday. The layout is initially a little confusing but we quickly figured out that we order at the cashiers and not at the food counter. I decided to go with a mixed shawarma wrap and I got that with everything. It was ready about 15 minutes later and sure had some heft to it. This is one first-class shawarma wrap. It's loaded with quality pieces of both beef and chicken (albeit pieces lacking in that crisp you hope for with a shawarma), and the other components complement the concoction really well. I especially loved that tangy garlic sauce in there. Do I wish it had some kind of hot sauce to give it a bit of spice? This is a long overdue review, when eating inside restaurants was still allowed. I'm not a big fan of carbs and since we came here to have lunch, we had to be strategic on what to order so no food goes to waste. My boyfriend and I shared a chicken tawook plate (which comes with rice and pita) and hummus with chicken shawarma (which comes with pita). They grilled the tawook and shaved the chicken shawarma once you place the order, so no dried up chicken shawarma here! They even timed it so that both our orders were ready at the same time, a service I didn't expect at a take-out/self-serve restaurant. We shared the food but because I like the chicken shawarma with hummus so much, my boyfriend surrendered the dish to me early on during the meal. The hummus was creamy and super smooth. They provided hot sauce, garlic sauce, hummus and tahini on the side. Overall it was good but I'd definitely return for the falafel. You should know they have two units. If it was warm off the wood oven they have in sure it would taste amazing. Shish-tawook shawarma: the wraps medium sized, fresh ingredients and the bbq chicken was amazing especially over charcoal. I've been here once for dine-in and once for take-out but I haven't been able to stop thinking about this place! I really want to go back. My whole family and I enjoyed everything we ate. FOOD We got the Ghadir Mix ($44.25) which comes with 12 skewers (6 different meats x2 skewers each), grilled onions and tomatoes, hummus, pickled veggies, garlic sauce, 2 plain pita, 2 seasoned pitas and 1 pita on the base to soak up all the good juices. Every single element of this dish was super delicious. All the meats were cooked to perfection and still very moist. The pickled veggies, garlic sauce and hummus were very flavourful. I just couldn't get enough of it all. The second time we ordered the BBQ Chicken which was just as filling and tasteful! They cook the chicken flattened so when it's time to eat, it's much easier to cut apart. ENVIRONMENT The restaurant is situated inside their own grocery store. It's a casual environment where you order at the grocery cashier and wait for your number to be called. Plenty of seating exists in front of the pick up counter and on the other side of the store in a room of its own. Spacious, but I wouldn't bring a stroller in here. They have high chairs available for kids. A sink is conveniently located at the back of the dining room, outside the restroom. TAKEOUT CAUTION The one time I did take out, they had forgotten to provide the fattoush salad. Sadly, we only found out when the food was already home. Just tried out the grilled fish. You select a fish from the display, it is weighed and you are asked whether you want it grilled or fried. You can then select reasonably priced side (3 for $5.99). For fish we chose a Porgie and a Sea Bream. As appetizer we had garlic potatoes, fries, and baba ganoush. The fish was lightly spiced, charcoal grilled, and accompanied by fried pita piece and a tasty parsley tahini sauce. The side were fresh and delicious as were the fishes. I've now eaten at this place twice and was very impressed with the consistency in quality and flavor of food at this place. It's always full with customers from all sorts of backgrounds. I ordered the mixed grill each time and everything we tasted was fresh and extremely flavorful. I would suggest that they work to improve the ordering/pickup process. It's a bit complicated and when they're full (seems like all the time) it's a pain moving around the store. The seating area is also a bit tight. Wow, this place is busy!! Directly across the street from Empire. You order and pay at cash just inside the entrance. A number is assigned on your receipt and when your number is called you make your way to the appropriate station where your order is prepared. In this area for basketball and was told to visit a must try for shawarma- well, we ended up here instead and what a happy accident! Pickled condiments are crunchy and sauces/dips are yummy. Majority of the time everything is seasoned well. In the future I'd venture up to Wexford when I'm craving shawarma long after basketball is finished. That said- the parking lot is a nightmare! Horrible parking and driving skills on display. Rudeness and people won't back/illegally park and block others in so sometimes you can get stuck for upwards of 20 mins fighting through that mess. read more
