Huge fan of the lunch specials... our server Taylor as very accommodating of my requests of no meat in my sandwich along with adding garedenra peppers. Love the beet salad . So glad we have this lunch spot close to home.

I'll keep it short and sweet- we love Gia Mia! The Chicken Parmesan is one of the best I've ever had and a go to every time. We tried a couple new dishes due to a menu change (bring back the mushroom toast!!). The whitefish was outstanding, the pesto chicken pasta was solid but nothing worth writing home about. The real disappointment of the meal was the calamari- many pieces of just breading, as well as fried lemons and veggies and only a few decent pieces of calamari- would not recommend. The service was excellent as always!

We came as part of a large party and had a good time! We tried a variety apps including the calamari, zucchini fries, and prosciutto and fig bruschetta. For the main I had the prosciutto and arugula pizza which I enjoyed though thought it was too lemony. They also have a $15 lunch special. However, the service was slow.

Super cute and casual Italian restaurant! Service was great. We were seated quickly. We were able to get some table bread upon request. The food was ready quickly, as well. The chicken Parmesan was very flavorful. Overall, a great experience!

Not a bad place to get some Italian. The appetizers were really good and the pizza isn't bad either. We tried: - Tuscan Shrimp & Polenta - Arancini Mozzarella - Margherita Pizza - Pasta Gia - Short Rib Gnocchi - Paccheri Vodka The arancini were my favorite dish of the night. The pasta was fine, but the apps were just better. I also had a Lemon Travolta which was solid.

This was our first time here. We went on a Wednesday night. It was pretty busy. The restaurant has plenty of seats and also an outdoor patio. They have a table for us right away. We ordered the Tuscan shrimp and polenta, paccheri vodka, and linguine carbonara. The shrimp and polenta were good. It wasn't too salty when mixed with the polenta. There was a kick from the pepper. The linguine carbonara was creamy with the Parmesan cream and the egg yolk. It was delicious with the bacon. I wish the portion were a little bigger. The paccheri vodka was also good with delicious vodka sauce with sausage. The waiter was nice and friendly. He gave us recommendations on what is good on the menu. He would come back to check if we needed anything. I would go back to try their other dishes.

This Italian restaurant on Main St in downtown Downers Grove is great for families, and their patio is lovely!

FAMILY VALUES A spur-of-the-moment lunch turned into one of the most affordable meals we've had all summer. When my wife suggested we take the kids to eat at an Italian restaurant on a Saturday, I immediately saw dollar signs flashing before my eyes and tried pivoting to a less-expensive option ("is Wendy's OK?") As it turns out, I had no reason to be worried for my wallet. Gia Mia is right on the corner of Main St in downtown Downers Grove, just a stone's throw from the train station. It can get loud when the Metra stops to offload passengers, so if you're sitting outside on their patio expect noise from commuter trains. Parking is available in the lot across the tracks or on the street in front, if you're lucky. The inside is beautiful with lots of natural wood and tasteful lighting. Pints were fair at $7/ea, the wifey had a couple Stella Artois while I had two Half Acres (does that mean I drank a Full Acre??) Staff were more than accommodating to our party of four and we felt taken care of as customers, especially the kiddos. For apps, we got the arancini (6 for $14), delicious balls of creamy risotto in a sea of garlic tomato sauce, which were amazing. Our 4yo loved his cheese pizza ($5) and our little girl had the spaghetti & meatball ($6) off the kids' menu. These were ideal portion sizes and a really good value. I hate when places overcharge for some reheated bullsh*t, like kids won't know the difference between a homemade pizza and a frozen one tossed in the microwave. Gia Mia doesn't play those kinds of games, and I respect the hell out of them for that! Bread = 5 Circuses = 4.5 I was pleasantly surprised to see lunch specials on the weekends. The majority of restaurants are full price Fri-Sun, so we couldn't pass up on a pizza + side salad for $13. My wife chose the caramelized onion & pear pizza (blue cheese, arugula, balsamic) and a baby kale salad w/beets and whipped ricotta. I thought the bbq chicken pizza and Italian farm salad were perfect. Great stuff all around. * TL;DR * Get this: 2 adults (guzzling 2 drinks each) plus 2 kids had an absolutely delightful lunch - on a SATURDAY - for under $90. In downtown Downers. Yeah, I'm shocked too. Gia Mia is very welcoming to families, from the attitude of the friendly servers to the reasonably-priced kids menu. Being able to take advantage of a lunch special on a weekend is almost unheard of, so kudos to management for featuring this (please continue doing so!) I'd come back to try more small plates and enjoy their lovely outdoor terrace, maybe for dinner next time. Wonderful place. Def-o recommend-o!

Amazing experience! Friends and I came to Gia Mia for the first time this evening. Food was fantastic and reasonably priced for Italian cuisine in my opinion. The Downers Grove location is very cute, located right in the heart of downtown. Street parking could get scarce, but we came on Saturday evening around 6PM and there were plenty of open spaces available. We got the butternut squash risotto ($21), linguini fini carbonara ($18), pacherri vodka ($20), and margherita pizza to share ($14). All dishes tasted great, very fresh especially the pizza. Even though pasta is a heavy dish, I did not leave feeling groggy or greasy from the pasta here. Our server Madeline was very sweet and kind. Will be back during lunch specials and 1/2 off Pizza Mondays.

So, I don't usually go to a lot of chained restaurants but I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of food here. This location is in downtown Downers Grove, close to the train tracks. There is a free public parking lot nearby as well. Our server was very friendly and attentive. He made sure our food was to our liking. We ordered Tuscan shrimp + polenta, paccheri vodka, and linguine carbonara. Prices were very fair and reasonable. The restaurant was clean. There is seating inside and outside. -Tuscan shrimp + polenta 5 - the combination of ingredients really worked well. It's not too salty when you eat all of it together. It has a tiny kick from the roasted peppers. -paccheri vodka 5 - the sauce was very creamy and delicious. You got a good amount of meat with the giant rigatoni pieces. -linguine carbonara 5 - this is a lighter dish compared to the paccheri vodka, but it's still a great dish. You can definitely taste that parmesan cream and black pepper.

Clean and pretty space, lots of light wood contrasting dark curtains. Fast and helpful servers. Food came out quickly as well. The pizza I got had delicious dough, yummy sauce and cheese. The meat was a little spicy for my taste, but still good. My boyfriends pasta was delicious. The sauce was well balanced and the portion size was not overwhelming. Really happy with the experience overall.

Casual dining inside, but the food was beyond our expectations. Was looking for wood burning oven pizza and got so much more ! The only item we weren't in love with was the Brussel sprouts- they just didn't have much flavor. The calamari was tender - and the lemon aioli was an amazing companion. The eggplant was fresh - and the balsamic glaze takes it to next level. But those desserts were the star of the show ... Our waiter encouraged us to treat the dinner like a small plate / family style and it was perfection. Just look at the pictures - presentation and flavor was a ten out of ten.

I like Gia Mia and I has been to another location in Naperville, St. Charles and Wheaton but Downer Groves is my favorite location. Kids friendly. My sons enjoyed seeing the train pass by. Parking is easy to find (I'm not going in rush hours). Foods came fast and tasty. Friendly staff. Clean and nice restaurant.

We sat in the far back room, which felt like an overflow room. I wished we sat in the first dining room. (Note to self for next time ) We brought a couple bottles of wine from home. Corkage fee was $25 a bottle. I learned that this restaurant has a dual license so not only can you enjoy their large selection of wine while dining, but they sell their wine for 50% off of the wine list price to take home. Carol, our server, was personable and took good care of us. Our party of five shared two starters, the antipasto and the carpaccio. I was surprised that the carpaccio, although fresh and tasty, did not come with any grilled bread. I always order carpaccio at restaurants and it usually comes with crostini or grilled bread to put the thinly sliced beef on. I think that would be a nice addition to this starter. Taurasi makes homemade pasta so the five of us all had pasta dishes. My husband had Rigatoni Ragu Napoletano with an addition of a side of two meatballs. I had Ricotta Gnocchi alla Sorrentina. Both very good housemade pasta dishes. The side of meatballs were served with no sauce. I thought that was quite unusual. My husband and I split the meatballs so I asked our server to bring some sauce for the meatballs. The meatballs were full of flavor, soft and moist. It reminded me of my dad's meatballs. My friend who doesn't eat meat took a bite and asked for a second one. That says a lot about the taste of the meatballs. Sergio checked on us periodically to make sure we were enjoying our experience and then introduced us to the owner/chef Raffaele at the end of our meal. Raffaele is the one who curates the wine selection. He is a sommelier as well as the chef.. While talking to Raffaele, I asked about the pasta my husband and I learned to make on our trip to Tuscany last fall called pici, and he said he would make it for me even though it's not on the menu. Well, you know I'll be coming back to his restaurant again. Taurasi also hosts special wine events/ tastings and also has live music on occasion in the bar area. Outside of the minor glitches I had with where we were seated, the lack of grilled bread with the carpaccio and the sauceless meatballs, I would recommend this restaurant. The pasta is delicious and the service is good.

My husband and I went for an early dinner, didn't have reservations, it was just us two. We were told an approx 10 min wait, which was fine. As we waited, we noticed a few empty booths for two in the bar - we asked to be seated, and they said of course. Very pleasant front end staff. Problem began with our phantom server, waited a while til someone approached us. No water, no menus, no server. Finally after almost 20 min, the server appeared, he seemed very frazzled. Spoke quickly. We asked for a menu, water, silverware & napkins. At almost 30 minutes, we finally ordered our entrees. I ordered Fettuccine Alfredo, and my husband ordered Arrabbiata Sauce w/spaghetti which came with a small side salad or soup. I chose soup, and my husband had a side salad. And we asked for some bread for the table. We waited another 20 minutes for our salad and soup, and I was given a tsp for the soup, all things considered, it was good. We saw the server twice while we were there, appeared very pre-occupied. The kitchen staff served our pasta meals. My husband said his was good, my Fettuccine Alfredo was also good, but very Al dente. Meantime, still waiting for bread .... All in all, it was a good meal, sometimes servers can make or break it! When our server greeted us and asked how we were, we asked how he was doing in return, and he responded that he "could be better." While honesty is fine, it wasn't the best way to begin a dining experience. He appeared slow-moving and unwell throughout the meal, which honestly made us uncomfortable and less confident about the food we were eating. We couldn't help but wonder if he was sick--or possibly just recovering from New Year's Eve festivities--but either way, it impacted the experience. We ordered the chicken carbonara and the spicy shrimp penne, and it pains me to say this, but the food was mid at best. I genuinely feel like I would have enjoyed both the food and the service more had we gone to Olive Garden instead, which isn't something I say lightly. Since it was our first visit, I also expected a bit more guidance. The server knew it was our first time dining there, yet didn't explain the layout or how to exit the restaurant. When it came time to leave, I wasn't sure whether we were supposed to exit the same way we entered--through the kitchen--or navigate the maze-like dining room to find another way out. Overall, it just wasn't a great dining experience, and it's not how I would have chosen to start my first meal out in 2026. Disappointing all around.
