Got a large black French roast coffee. Very watery. I wasn't expecting espresso but this was pretty weak. McDonalds has better plain black coffee. Let me up the star ratio here. Giacomo's definitely deserves the five I'm giving them. People, back away from the Starbucks, I realize the hype of the corporate giant has made most people oblivious to the wonders of mom & pop coffee shops but please...try to frequent these gems at least half the time so we can keep our coffee options open! Call me biased if you want to (my husbands sister works there) but, since I started going to Giacomo's when she started working there well over a year ago, I have not been disappointed once. And, since I work downtown and take Scenic to work everyday, (if I'm not running late) it is very convenient to drive through for a beverage, and is one way to make my morning more pleasant (as I am SOOO not a morning person). My favorite winter time beverage is a large white chocolate mocha with three shots of espresso. Four shots is overkill...I learned that the hard way. Recently, Laura (my sister in law) suggested I try a smoothie so she made me a strawberry lemonade smoothie which was so good I got one the following morning too. I suggest giving this place a shot. At least do it for the children will you? When they grow up and become frazzled businessmen and women, they are going to need their legal buzz in the morning. Its usually great and they crew is super friendly. I've noticed over the last year, at both locations, some of the associates aren't very polite. A coworker told me about Giacomos, so after work I went and got a Blended White Mocha and oh was it yummy. This is the first coffee house I found in a long time that makes my White Mocha just right. I got my husband the blended Mocha and he loved it. I think we're both hooked now. read more

I have been a faithful customer since Giacomos opened in the 1990's. Recently I have seen a decline and I believe it is due to new owners. Reduced hours, reduced selection, long lines, all not the fault of the employees, which are usually wonderful. I hope the situation here will improve and the hours will return. There are long lines everyday...certainly warrants extending back to the regular hours, or close to. Was open until 6pm, now closes by 1pm. read more

This place is alright, but I think the raving reviews below are ludicrous. I used to go here alllll the time growing up, and by that I mean for about a four year period during high school (currently halfway through college)...and I must say, their customer service and quality of drinks are totally variable and range from horrid to great. One time, I had a FLY in my drink. YES, a FLY! WTH? I hope sanitation agents inspect this joint. I like the drive thru (it's really the only option unless you walk up - which I imagine would be hella embarrassing!) as an idea, but when there's a back-up of cars this is a reality turned nightmare. Sometimes, they get out and ask you what you'd like, but I don't know, I'm not that impressed. You can also tell that their drinks are totally packaged/premixed etc. The "chill," which is a machine (just like a 7eleven slurpee machine, and any standard icee machine at Target or a PARK) often breaks down, esp in the summer months. It will cost you $4.00 for that large. And oh, you say you don't want whipped cream? you'll get it anyway. The workers here are idiots and often mess up drinks. I'd say that they have an accuracy rate of about 50% (and that is a generous estimate). Still, when their drinks ARE made correctly (again not a dependable phenomenon), they are quite alright. If only they could achieve some consistency and significantly amp up their customer service and drink quality (and sanitation!) standards. THAT would be the day. read more

Giacomo's is awesome!!! The staff is always friendly, on Friday's they usually do a theme day where the workers dress up, they have stamp cards where you buy 10 drinks and the next one is free. They have almond and soy milk, chai, and for the non-coffee lovers there is tea and delicious smoothies. They are VERY reasonably priced as compared to other big chain coffee places. They can make any drink hot, iced, or blended. The blended drinks are called chills and are the smoothest drinks ever, last but not least they have flavored whipped cream!! They always have vanilla and chocolate, and whatever the days special is they do a whip cream flavor associated with that drink. Would highly recommend and encourage anyone who is looking for a locally run business and great coffee to give them a try!!! read more

I just realized I hadn't written a Yelp review yet for here, and I definitely need to. A little less than a year ago, on my way to work in downtown I decided to stop here because I knew I wouldn't have enough time for the Starbucks that is nearby. I have hardly been to Starbucks since (and I was a once/week Starbucks person) The lattes are really good, the bagels are always fresh, and the customer service is always spectacular! I hope that the staff here gets the recognition they deserve because I gotta tell ya, on those mornings when life is really hard and I stop in here and have just the briefest interaction with the people here, it helps me get through my morning. I work near this location so I sometimes drop by for some coffee before heading to work. It is cheaper than Starbucks although I don't know how much you can customize your drink since some are already pre-blended. I always order a 24oz cappuccino chill ($3.75). They also have different flavors of whipped cream everyday so that's a plus. When you buy 10 drinks, you get one free, so don't forget to ask for your stamp card. Also, if you buy 5 drinks in one transaction, they still count that as 5 drinks, not like Starbucks where I have to pay and swipe for each drink separately. read more

I've been going there for year and I believe they are WAY better than Starbucks and cheaper. I've never had a messed up order. I always order the hot chocolate and plain bagel which they get from Bagel Land on McHenry every morning. LOVE the bagels. My mom continues to go there now since its on her way to work. As per my friend's recommendation, I tried this place one day on my way to school, and I have been a loyal customer ever since! They have great specialty drinks (large giacomocha over ice please!) and all the coffee staples a coffee house would have, but in a drive-thru. All of their pastries are yummy too, I recommend the blueberry scone. The servers are always so friendly and nice, and they make consistently delicious coffee.
