Nearly every time I shop here, Giant is out of something. Such as produce. Don't expect to gourmet produce shop here: much of the produce selection has been dumbed down to a large selection of bagged greens and pre-packaged items such as sliced vegetables and high prices in the interest of "convenience". Forget about leeks or heaven forbid, a fennel bulb. Also gone are scallions unless you select the organic variety. Good selection of the standard fare like potatoes, onions, bananas, apples, etc.. but unfortunately the selection is narrowing greatly from what it used to be. Try the World Market where the old Safeway used to be at Briggs Chaney for a truly remarkable selection of produce or the Asian markets like H-Mart or Lotte for produce. The "new improved" store design is absent the coffee grinder that disappeared when the coffee aisle was relocated recently - a definite negative. The Shop-Rite in Silver Spring still has a grinder as does the Harris Teeter in Maple Lawn. Meats with the exception of the butcher counter are generally all cry-o-vaced product, a sign true butchers are a vanishing breed. Try Laurel Meat Market where they have quality product and know their craft. Sorry for any professional butchers working at Giant, but I haven't seen a 7-blade chuck roast for sale in years. At check out, the self-service terminals are turned up at full volume creating an annoying and repetitive robotic point-of-sale drone that is nearly unbearable. I suppose the mute feature was eliminated due to theft. Been in Burtonsville for over 20 years and the old Giant in Burtonsville Crossing was far superior. Unfortunately, this store is literally the only game in town now with the Safeway closing both in Laurel and Briggs Chaney. Smart shoppers will avoid. I have vowed never to shop there again unless desperate. read more

I've been coming here since it was in the old location, mainly because it's the closest grocery store around. They maintain loyal staff which is nice, it's always pleasant to know the employees. Manager Mary is busy but takes the time to address issues if need be. Always has a fresh salad bar and good produce selection, my only qualm is the deli counter. The staff is borderline rude in the way they neglect customers...you could be standing there with NO ONE else around and they'll make eye contact and not say a word. Bakery folks are nice enough, made a mistake on my son's b day cake last year and didn't offer any compensation for turning "Justin" into "Justine" The area itself is in decline, as evident by the security guard that now makes an appearance in the store. Otherwise just fine and will continue to frequent. If I could give 3.5 stars I would but I'll be nice and push it to 4 for convenience. read more

Yesterday afternoon I was parked at the curb waiting for my husband who had dashed in to grab a couple of things. While waiting there I observed a beautiful act of kindness by one of Giant's employees. A car pulled up to the curb. The driver got out and came around to assist an elderly woman out of the passenger's side. She was struggling. From the store a Giant employee rushed to her aid. He brought over a cart, assisted her out of the car, reached in the back and grabbed up her purse and shopping bags. The driver drove the car away while the Giant employee escorted the woman into the store. Later the employee came back out and I had a chance to meet him and talk with him. I complimented him on his act of kindness. He clearly was very modest about it, yet gave a very warm and friendly smile. This young man's name is Eyram. read more

this is the worst Giant I have ever been to-moved here in 2006 and I will go out of my way to shop anywhere else. They don't carry some of the most basic items and the employees (most) are awful. I only live a mile away but I only go if it's an emergency. read more

I shop at this store all the time. I use the scanning gun all the time. This week I used the gun and there was only one line open. In that line were about 5 people with full carts. So, I went to the self check out. One of the staff came up and was going to help me so I thought. She took my scan gun and started going through my cart. She didn't explain to me what she was doing? So, I asked do you have to scan everything again? She said no. I am auditing you. I told her I had done this about 50 times and I have never been audited. She said ma'am I am just doing my job. Then she said you missed the tooth paste. I said don't tell me I missed the tooth paste. She went on to scan about 15 more items in my cart. She was pulling stuff out that I had put nicely in the bags. She then started talking to another employee and she said to that employee I think I made this lady mad. I said no you pissed me off. I told her there are NEVER enough lines opened and then should have a line just for people who have used the scan gun. She then hooked up my gun to the self check out and there was the tooth paste she said I had missed. She took of the one she scanned. I go into this store about every week and spend about $150.00-200.00 per week. Saturday I spend over $250.00. If you are going to audit people you need to explain what you are doing. Also, there needs to be more lines opened. The employee walked away and didn't say anything. Another employee came up and was listening to me. Very bad experience and I don't know if I will be back. "Ran" in to get Birthday cake. Been at bakery counter for 20 minutes. Glenn from dairy couldn't have been any nicer, trying to get help for the CUSTOMERS. They paged but no one ever showed up. FINALLY, someone came to help the now 5 customers waiting in line but he didn't know the "codes!" After 25 minutes, I finally got the darn cake. This store is SO not "my" Giant anymore. This Giant has a wonderful selection of foods and products. The store is generally clean and well stocked. The service, though, leaves a lot to be desired. Even in the evening 4pm to 7pm time, there are usually only 2 or 3 checkouts open. Yes, there are self checkouts, but so many things do not scan. I just went through the checkout the other day. I helped bag my groceries, which is expected. At the end, the cashier was ready to move on to the next customer. She started tossing my items to me and said, "You don't need a bag for these." Now, this was the first thing she had said at all. As I was gathering my unbagged items and putting them in my cart, she began scanning the next customer 's items and sliding them down with mine. read more

Let me just say I have been shopping at this Giant when they were across the street in the old Burtonsville Crossing shopping center. My experience today was the straw that broke the camels back... I have to say the store is always busy, but I waited in line for 15 minutes while a cashier couldnt price the flowers for the customer ahead of me..something about 2 for 1 price..she called the Floral dept but no one was there so she left to check herself and came back without a resolution. Again added 10 minutes more while she had to void the flowers and get a supervisor to over ride the sale. The man in front of me was annoyed and displayed his dissatisfaction about the hole delay and the cashier very rudely suggested he put his items back in his cart and go to another line...right and wait another 20 minutes..exactly what he said. Anyway the reason why Im rambling is this store seems always understaffed and I have taken my business for my weekly shopping to Harris Teeters in Fulton. I hope the local managers look into the problems with this store as the grocery business in very competitive read more

Overall the store is fine. Produce employees are very helpful. My main gripe us with their deli, which is always understaffed. They have added a deli kiosk so you can shop while the order is filled. Great except the machine has been broken for a while and even when it does work, the employees don't fill your order regardless of whether they are busy with other customers. More than half the time I end up having to wait in the regular line after having placed a kiosk order because they employees ignore it when the line gets long. Once I came back to the deli to pick up my order only to find two women chatting it up, no other customers, and no order filled. I love the scanner guns at the front of the store. They make shopping much faster. I'm glad they finally added the second charging station to the left entrance. I tried the app a few times but its not as quick as the scanner guns. It's a particular nuisance to toggle back and forth between that app and my shopping list app. Overall, scanner guns good, app bad, produce dept good, deli bad. read more

This Giant has become more and more of a disappointment every single week. The produce looks bad, the aisles are filled with so many displays that you cannot even get by without running into another customer. EVERY single aisle is filled with a display !!! You cannot even get to the juice or eggs because they have these stupid junkie displays everywhere. The majority of the employees are helpful however there are a few younger ones that really need to be trained properly. I was in the store at 5pm today and there was an employee walking around with an earpiece in one ear singing rap music loud enough that the customers could hear him. This is after being in the store Thursday after work and the lines were long. Three registers plus the four self service registers were open. Meanwhile what appeared to be a manager and three other employees were standing and laughing. The store is not nearly as clean as it once was two years ago. I am extremely disappointed since this has been my main grocery store for over 16 years. This location was much better before Giant opened this new store a few years ago. Giant you can and must do better. However in the meantime I will go to Harris Teeter, Wegmans and Food Lion. The one star is for the employees over 30 who still believe in good customer service. Such a disappointment but I guess this is the result of not paying full time employees fairly nor offering the benefits that good employees deserve. read more
