This place can be a hit or miss. Sometimes they have lots of produce to choose from and other times they look that they've been ransacked and shelves are empty. The old person at the customer service desk can be pretty slow and unfriendly at times. The store is quite clean but sometimes there's kids there that can make it rowdy. If you can avoid this store, maybe you should. I go sometimes because I live right behind it, but I still usually drive a few extra minutes to Wegmans. Have you ever been in a store and smelled its bakery? The on-the-stem tomatoes? The neutral, inoffensive odor of a normal grocery store? Well, be prepared to walk in and smell...something. Is it the seafood department at the back? Is it rotting produce? A busted sewer line? Who knows. But there is often a funk when you walk in. Produce is often limp, bruised, or about to spoil. The meat case features dried cuts, the men's room is filthy (always, it seems), and the prices are higher on average than most local competitors. Here's the most positive thing I can say: the have great clearance prices. I grab everything from meat to beer to housewares at bargain basement prices. But I'd rather lose that and have a clean store that prices everything more competitively. read more

We have been shopping at this store for years. Today I noticed that they raised the prices significantly on certain items that we usually buy. This was very frustrating and caused us to shop at another nearby store. I prefer to shop here because it is closer to our home, but with prices being increased so much it will force us to shop elsewhere. Hopefully Giant doesn't price itself out of business. Other than location, I also like that this store does usually have most of what we need. I also like that it isn't as crowded as other places around here, but now I am noticing why. read more

This Giant pharmacy is the worst. Absolute worst. I made an appointment to get my flu shot. I called the number because the website says to make an appointment online and you have to dig for the website. Call the number and they provide it to you. I made an appointment days in advance. There is no way to add a person (I wanted to add my 4 year old with me). So instead, I made an appointment for myself and figured that okay, they'll do hers at the same time. No biggie. I arrive early, get to the counter, and the lady says they aren't doing walk ins. I said I have an appointment, but I couldnt add someone on. She turns to the pharmacist who tells me they are very behind and they cannot take any walks in. My daughter is FOUR and she is with me. The amount of time you are arguing you could have been done. Apparently there was one other person who had been waiting for 20 minutes. This was the first and LAST time I will ever come to this pharmacy. The pharmacists are as rude and clueless as they get. I actually complained to the store manager, Randy, before I left because I was so heated. Oh and by the way, they also told me EACH person needs to make an account on the giant website to make an appointment. WHAT????? A toddler too??? How about you just make a proper operable website. CVS doesn't do this! needless to say, I left, went to CVS and I was done in 10 minutes. Avoid this Giant pharmacy. They are terrible. read more

Their pharmacy staffs are the worse, can't understand a thing you say, I called to check on my prescription and a lady got on the phone, asked for last name, I gave last name, she asked for first name I gave her the first name she literally went "I thought that's not the last name" She did it about 5 times, put me on hold, a young guy pick up the phone did the EXACT SAME THING Once he found the name he went "Aite some old woman called early and gave me the same name"! Giant food, Stone rd. Centerville. Customer servise is a joke to them. I was trying to check out at the self service yesterday, very busy. Two of the terminals had items rung up, but had not been paid for, with all other terminals full. I asked the "customer service rep" standing there what gives? Came in a little bit early because we were out shopping and asked if I can pick it up. She said that our only option is to wait until 4 without offering any alternative solution. This is my local grocery store. It is clean and the staff is very friendly, in fact, there are many Giant team members that have been staples at this store since I moved to Burke in 1999. I think that speaks well of the Giant organization. This location is not a "super" Giant but it does offer the basics and that includes a bakery. Their produce is typically fresh and the meat department manager will try to accommodate any special requests. Their seafood department and I typically don't buy my fish here because it's just not a priority at this location. But that is a small inconvenience to me. This store is well managed and run and customer service at this store, in my experience is superb. read more

Would give zero stars if I could. Needed my prescription filled since I have the Flu. To start they never messaged me when my prescription was ready. Then they decided not to tell me my inhaler wouldn't be filled just was gonna send me on my way. I can't breathe without my inhaler. I didn't used to like Giant so much but now that I've changed some things I est, I notice Giant has a better diversity of food than some other grocery stores. I still cant stand walking across the entire store looking for something and this location had the sound on every self check out on max. I couldn't wait to get out. This Giant sucks. Their hours suck, their customer service sucks, and the entire layout is inefficient and frustrating to navigate. Their prices are ridiculous. I asked an employee where an item was and said I don't know, and then started talking to another employee about how long it took him to find a handcart. I asked another employee the same question and pointed to a general direction (seriously???) which was incorrect. The deli closes at around 8pm so I couldn't get any cold cuts, and their prepared section is the worst. Their prices are outrageous. I was going to buy some hummus which was $4.49, and I thought that was too expensive and I was pissed off with my general experience here. I exited and left all my crap in the cart and went to Wegmans (10 minutes up the road) and that SAME hummus was $2.49 and not even on sale. Same story on some cereal and bread I was going to buy. Giants new owners are ruining the chain. It can't keep pace with Wegmans or Harris Teeter. I used to exclusively shop only at Giant for most of my life. When I lived in Charlottesville I used to drive 10 minutes out of town to go to Giant when there was a Harris Teeter 2 minutes away. I now only shop at HT or Wegmans. Avoid. read more

What's with the very nasty smell as soon as you enter the store. It's nauseating and makes you wanna puke , i do not buy food from there because of this horrible smell inside the store!! For basic needs, this Giant is ok - it's walking distance from my house so I can't complain too much. But layout! GAA! In order to make that night's dinner - thai chicken curry with peanut sauce (side note - really easy - just chicken, peanut sauce from a jar, squeeze of lime juice, coconut milk, and some fresh basil, chopped onion, and peppers), I needed an essential ingredient - Coconut Milk. I located the "International Foods" section in aisle 2 - the aisle closest to the dairy case. I hunted - Cadbury Chocolate, random Mexican food, Cheez-its (since when were Cheez its international?!), and an odd assortment of weird sodas. Hrm. Surely they would have coconut milk?! And then I realized that I didn't see *any* asian food in that section. So I went to aisle 3. No luck. Aisle 4. No luck. I began scanning the signs to each section from the back of the store. Sadly, only aisle 2 said, "international food". Frustrated, I returned to aisle 2 but alas, nothing but the hodge podge of questionable international food awaited me there. Maybe it was with the pasta? That's international right? No, it wasn't there. So then I scanned from the front of the store and I hit the jackpot - there above aisle 6 another sign, "international food". Since when does a store have not one, but *two* international food sections - separated by multiple aisles?! (and then to make it more difficult, not having the second one marked from the back!) I really hope they relay this store, because finding things can be so time consuming and frustrating! read more

This Giant is only a few miles away from where I work, so if I need to go grocery shopping during lunch or pick up something for lunch/to complete my lunch this is where I go. The parking situation is not a problem, there's always plenty of space available. The store has always been clean. The seafood section is seriously lacking however. Only 2 sizes of raw shrimp and only 1 type of fish that I saw today. The deli section here is HUGE and filled with prepared scoopable foods. Another thing that's lacking is customer service. If you don't know what isles something is in and you're in a rush you're screwed. You're better off walking up and down every isle because no one seems to know where anything is here. read more

I guess everyone's been hating on this Giant for the layout and how difficult it is to find things, but I've never found that to be the case. There's a huge directory sign when you first walk into the store and each aisle is marked with the main things in it. They can't fit everything in the aisle on the sign, obviously, but it gives you a solid general idea what's there. The store is clean and brightly lit. Their pharmacy is open late, which is great for us nine to five-ers. It's convenient to my house and I've never encountered a problem with long lines or rude people. With that said, if I'm out to do some serious grocery shopping I'll usually go to Wegman's and only come to Giant for the salsa and ice cream I like which Wegman's doesn't usually carry. Sidenote: I don't know if you love salsa like I love salsa but if your predilection is anywhere as strong as mine, I'd suggest buying the Giant brand hot salsa; it's with the pre-sliced fruit and veg when you first walk into the store. Combined with tortilla chips from Nana's Cocina, it's the perfect snack (and healthy too, considering the salsa is made from fresh peppers and the chips have no weird additives in them. I like an ingredient list made up exclusively of things I can recognize). read more

Decently sized Giant, in my opinion. If people can't find certain things, they should just read the signs that are above the aisles... even if they don't say stuff on there, it's a pretty good description of what KINDS of things are there. BTW, First Aid stuff is in aisle 16. There is a Western Credit Union machine here, and also the newer versions of cash registers and stuff. Don't be an a-hole and try to go to customer service to ring up your stuff if there's a long line, those people will always have to run around the registers BECAUSE there are long lines. I really like the discounted items, that's where I tend to get my meals for my college classes, as well as my disposable cameras & makeup. Seasonal aisle is stocked! I get scared walking in that aisle sometimes, because I just want to buy everything :( I wish they stocked Green Tea Ice Cream from Haagen Daz more often :\ They usually stock it, but by the time I get to the store, it's gone :( read more

Every time I get a prescription filled here I have to wait in line at least 10 minutes to drop it off even if I'm second in line. And then it is another 30 or 40 minutes you have to wait for the prescription. Kim the clerk at the pharmacy is the slowest person. Giant on Stone Road; half the cashiers are pleasant and helpful, the other half seem bored and it is quite an effort for them to lift a finger. Today, I was in line to buy a pound of chicken salad, like I always do. Some jerk walked up and took a ticket. I said, "I never knew I had to take a ticket." He stood behind me while I was waiting in line. (I have been shopping at this Giant for over 5 years, never took a ticket. When the person behind the counter asked what I wanted and I told him, as he was scooping the chicken salad, the jerk moved in front of me and said, "I'm next! I have a ticket!" The person behind the counter stopped with my order and starting waiting on the jerk. He waved his ticket in front of me and said, "I have a ticket!!! And you were just walking up." I CLEARLY had been there for 5 minutes before he showed up. I said, "Okay, if you want to be a jerk about it." I left. On my way out, I asked for the manager who I was told was not in, the assistant manager, not in. The assistant manager, said to me, "it was in the pharmacy?" I explained the situation and said her employees should be more observant. She said so now you know. You need a ticket. Goodbye, Giant. I went to pick up money that a Family member send me trough WESTERN UNION and I brought the Tracking Number MTCN that was send to me obviously is a unique number that I did not found it on the street also I got my ID and Credit Card where shows my Name, Unfortunately Mrs FIORELLA declined to give me my money because the Transaction did not have as show on my ID a second name obviously this lady doesn't have any common sense to work with people and should be removed form Customer Services because she doesn't know how to proceed with this situation or she didn't want to run out of cash $$. Because of this nonsense I drove to the closer Giant where the immediate the Gentleman provided the service required. All of this proved MR FIORELLA need to be replaced permanently from that position and provably from this kind of business because GIANT work with Customer and need someone at the level to provide that service ! read more

First off, this store is FILTHY. They asked me if I wanted to get a flu shot one day and I replied, "No thanks. I'll need to get a shot just for visiting this store." The managers have no power nor do they have any pride in their store, so you will get screwed every step of the way. They hire people who are not trained nor understand any English, and they ring up the wrong amount of money on a consistent basis and refuse to give it back. I'm still trying to figure out if this is something I could call the cops about. Probably not, unfortunately. The products are low grade, gas station quality and they are EXPENSIVE. Wegmans is MUCH cheaper, which is odd. They are understaffed and the staff they do have is atrocious, so there's no reason it should be so expensive. It's the kind of place that should pay you for stepping foot into. It's a bleak, depressing environment filled with awful people who are badly treated and respond by treating you badly. For convenience, I go here to do shopping. Any serious shopping needs I go to Shoppers, Wegmans, or Costco.The things I mostly buy here are deli cold cuts and cheese, french baguettes, and milk. But its the deli counter that keeps me going here. Otherwise, I wouldn't be shopping at this grocery store. They now stock some gluten - free foods here (YES!) This review is for the pharmacy only- please be aware of the pharmacist here and check your medication. I went to pick up my prescription, got it home and just before taking it noticed it looked a little different. I then noticed it was a different medication, when looking up the medication I learned it is not safe for breastfeeding which I currently am. Thankfully I noticed this potentially dangerous mistake before feeding my child. This is beyond scary that had I not noticed and fed my child this would have put him endanger. I went back to the pharmacy and spoke with the pharmacist who stated that legally she is allowed to do this. I explained that all it would have taken was a conversation with me to avoid harming my child. I am furious and upset.... This is beyond scary and something everyone should be cautioned about with this pharmacy! As a side note I was able to go over to cvs without an issue and get the correct prescription. They have a ton of Latino food items, a great organic selection with lots of meat and veggie options. Everybody has always been super nice to me and its close to my new home!
