But when a person with a 740 credit rating and credit cards with over $10,000 available credit on each can't buy a $100 gift card well something is very wrong and fishy. Who takes three days to verify or decide to ship something...heck it was long enough for the charge to actually post to my credit card (that's well beyond just authorization). So they charge your card, ask for a ton of info all before they approve the purchase and then once they have boatloads of personal info they deny the sale. Bought a giftcard through this company on 12/10. Planned to use the giftcard today and checked the balance. Realized it was used as a PHYSICAL card in Oklahoma on 12/23 and the balance had changed. Contacted them through twitter, their site, and their email. Today I checked the balance again, and it's now being used ELECTRONICALLY at another location on 12/27. Check it again and now its all used up. I have yet to use this card, I am not even in the states this card is currently being used in.. Worst Customer service I have ever dealt with. I had been buying gift cards from them for a while with no problems. I was purchasing cards without any issues then all of the sudden I try to purchase one and am denied. No reason for this. I used the same credit card I had every time before. I contacted them to find out what is going on. They inform me that they use a 3rd party verifier and that they have declined my purchased. They could not tell me why but COULD tell me that they would no longer be able to accept any orders from me and the woman, "Vivian-agent of Happiness", tells me to go away and use another company. I then open another account using another email and use a different credit card. I'm going along. I make many purchases over a period of time just like on my last account when Bam! I am hit again. As other users have mentioned, Giftcard Zen uses a clandestine "third-party verification system" which declines your transactions AFTER they charge you, and then take their sweet time to refund you. To their credit, their customer service provides excuses very promptly. Oh, and if you're declined once, they'll decline every subsequent transaction. Personally, I was declined despite paying with a valid credit card which: A) was in my name, 2) had no fraud alerts and III) had available credit well in excess of the transaction amount. My advice to those who use discount gift card aggregators like Gift Card Granny and Gift Card Wiki is to save yourself a headache and just ignore offers from Giftcard Zen altogether, even if they have the best discount on the merchant you're buying a gift card for. read more

I wanted a pair of shoes from Dicks Sporting Goods. I wasn't in any sort of hurry. I googled promo codes. I was linked to Gift Card Zen's web site. I was a little skeptical. I did some research and concluded it was legit. I ordered my card. It took a week. Probably would have been faster but I ordered right before memorial day weekend. Anyway, I saved $13 on the shoes and ended up getting free shipping (Not a benefit of giftcard zen). Cant beat that. $13 I can use towards some other stuff. This site is some kind of bizarre scam which I can't figure out: 1. When you place an order they charge your card and take your money. 2. They do some strange and secretive "processing" that they literally give you no information about. They actually tell you via email that they won't tell you. 3. They'll cancel or as they say "reject" your order. 4. They then tell you it could be up to 5 days before you get your refund. This happens randomly and frequently. They take your money immediately and then hold it for an indeterminate amount of time. Why do they take your money? What are they doing with it? Are they some kind of cash recycling scam? Why do they reject an order after they take your money? There are tons of some great retailer's gift cards available on the site but they will randomly not give you what you pay for. I wouldn't ever purchase from them because it's not honest. I'm just suspecting that they are getting your financial information so don't give them any. I had used GCZ several times in the past with no issue. I recently purchased $3,000 worth of Lowe's cards for a refrigerator we were buying. I received nine cards and headed off to Lowe's. As I was checking out, with people behind me, my balance fell short of $482.16. Knowing I calculated my figures correctly, I began to panic. Turns out, two cards -- one of $297 and one for $234 -- had only $31 and $21 on them respectively! That's not even close to what I was expecting. I had to charge $482 to my credit card to complete my purchase at Lowe's. I then filed a claim with GCZ and requested $482 refund, which is the difference I was out and had to pay back to my credit card. I've since received an e-mail from them that I would be getting back $430, which is a prorated amount of what I actually paid. I e-mailed them back that I am not accepting a prorated amount and that I want the balance I am due and now have to pay off on my credit card. I received an e-mail back saying that they do not refund the value of the card and only what I paid minus what I was able to use. So I am out $52 for something that is THEIR fault, not mine, and they chalk it up to "that's not their policy". 100% customer satisfaction is bologna. I will never order from them again, especially now that I see other people experienced the same thing. How can you trust a company that you're basically playing Russian roulette as to whether the card you order is going to actually have the balance they claim it should? Zero stars...I ordered two Carnival gift cards and paid $700 for both. I entered them both on Carnivals website to pay my cruise and it appeared they went through, however, a few hours later Carnival notified me that the issuer (Gift Card Zen) rejected the transaction and the funds were invalid and my payments were reversed. It took me 3 days of frequent calling (which typically led to a voicemail and they never called back) and a handful of emails to get my money refunded and another 3-5 days of waiting for the refund to post. Will never do business with this company again. The idea of saving money is appealing but the risk of using a company like this is high and I would not recommend utilizing their service. It appears a lot of their gift cards are likely purchased using stolen credit cards and not regular people selling gift cards they don't want, like I foolishly thought. Lesson learned. read more

These people are disreputable scum--read the reviews. My experience was absolutely HORRIBLE. I placed several orders with them. Website says: "Electronic and printable cards will be delivered to your account 24/7, processing time may take up to 30 minutes." Don't believe it! My first order took them almost a full day to process, but they finally did. The third time I ordered, they couldn't be bothered to process it all weekend (right before Xmas-seriously?). And so I emailed them asking them to take care of it and quoting what they promise on their website. The following morning, I wake up to a letter telling me that both cards in my order had been cancelled. Why? They were completely vague and wouldn't tell me why. I suspect it was because I had the nerve to actually complain, and these spineless little slackers can't stand a word of criticism. So, my kids didn't get their Christmas presents on time, and then I find out that they've CHARGED ME for the orders. To the tune of $700! So now I have no gift cards and a $700 bank charge which, days and days later, still has not gone away. I called their helpline, and no one could be bothered to call me back. This is a scam. They steal people's money and don't deliver the cards. I'm going to report them to the Better Business Bureau--and you should too. Let's shut these thieves down. I have bought hundreds of dollars of gift cards from this company and have only experienced one issue, which was satisfactorily resolved. I experienced an issue with an electronic giftcard from Tim Horton's (a Canadian coffee shop) and followed Giftcard Zen's process for reporting the issue. I was contacted the same day that a refund would be issued, which I received about two weeks later. I was satisfied with the timeliness and accuracy of the refund. I recommend checking the balance of the card upon receipt and saving the receipts that display the remaining card balance, as I believe having this documentation expedited the refund process. read more

Until recently, GiftCardZen had a 'forever guarantee' on their gift cards. In September (after being acquired by RetailMeNot) they changed their guarantee to the more typical 100 days as seen with other vendors. The forever guarantee was a BIG DEAL for me, I have been bit by cards that became worthless AFTER 100 days with another vendor. I emailed GiftCardZen support who confirmed the guarantee is now 100 days "in order to encourage our customers to use their cards close to time of purchase." I've never seen a "30 minute clause", but did see somewhere where it could take up to 3 hours and it's usually right on. I think it goes by merchant though. At Petco, I've received my card immediately, at other places, it might take the full three hours. Not sure why someone would rate a 1 star if the company immediately rectifies an issue like sending out a zero balance card, to me that's good service.
