I've wanted to try this place for a long time but the first time I tried they were booked for a private meeting. That being said me and my family were able to go this past weekend. Up first we got the "the trio" which is soul rolls, Mac n cheese balls and buffalo wontons. The soul rolls were the size of my thumb and wasn't really worth it for me, the Mac n cheese balls were tasty and flavorful just a little too crunchy, and the buffalo wontons were delicious too. Then we also got jerk wings which were super delicious especially the pineapple salsa on top. We also got the collard green dip which was magnificent! If you ever had longhorns spinach artichoke dip it's very similar but I'd give Gigis a slight edge. Onto our entrees, I got the sweet jerk salmon with Mac n cheese and candied yams. This meal was fire, the salmon was slightly overcooked but the sweet jerk glaze made up for it. The Mac and cheese had a truffle type flavor in it, I personally don't like truffle but regardless it was baked very well and seasoned well. The candied yams were amazing. It was sweet and mashed very well. They also gave a huge piece of cornbread(i think it's whole wheat) with honey drizzle on top and that tasted like home cooking it was delicious. My girlfriend got the soul bird with the same sides. But the chicken wings were fried hard and season well with honey drizzle on top. Then for dessert we tried the sweet potato brownie. I visited Gigi's Music Café in Sunrise on Saturday with a party of 10 for a 4 PM reservation. The ambiance was fantastic with great music and vibes as soon as I walked in. The DJ even welcomed me on the mic, which was a nice touch. On Saturdays they have Brunch Party from 12-5. You can only order from the brunch menu. Im glad to say that our waitress was prompt, and the food came out quickly, fresh, and well-seasoned. Special shoutout to the sweet jerk wings. Really yummy! No one had a complaint about the taste of the food. Taste was on point. However, there were several disappointments. One of our party members arrived at around 4:45 PM, and when her food arrived, it was placed in a to-go bag without any warning. Additionally, when I raised concerns about me receiving 5 drums and 1 flat in my chicken wing order, the waitress said she didn't know if anything could be done and left it at that, leaving me to handle the situation myself. Ordering all flats was not allowed so, I should've received a better balance and after learning that I wasn't happy, something should have been done about it A bigger issue was that the café closed abruptly at 5 PM. DJ literally stopped the music and started packing up. Staff starting laughing and congregating with each other, like customers were not still in the restaurant. An establishment, should not accept a 4pm reservation for a party of 10 knowing that it closes abruptly at 5pm. We didnt fully get to enjoy the "party." The waitress kept saying "I wish you guys wouldve come earlier to get the full experience." The waitress said that we could stay to finish our food until 5:45 PM, but the lights came on at 5:30 PM, and we felt rushed to leave. Wanted to try this place out. Went with my sister in law. I ordered the griot tacos, she ordered the fish and grits. The tacos were tasty, only thing was missing was a sauce to pour over the tacos. They were a bit dry but the flavors were there. I did have a bite of the fish and grits, nice flavors as well. The ambiance was nice inside. I was expecting some live music but unfortunately that wasn't available the night I was there. Our waitress was very nice and sweet and so were the other ladies working as well. read more

My friend wanted to check this place out, as she had seen it on TikTok. So we got our little group and met up for lunch around 1pm on a Saturday. Upon entering we were asked if we had a reservation, which we did not - and the lady said she'll see what she can do and was able to find us a table toward the back corner. The place was an absolute vibe. I ordered the fish and grits and oh my, it was beyond delicious! I'd go back just for that. One of my friends ordered the shrimp burger and said she would order it again. The ambience and music was great - but definitely not a place you can have much conversation as the music was very loud and hard to hear each other. I love this place. My food, turkey wing, corn bread with honey drizzled on top, steamed broccoli, grits topped with cheese was wonderful. I forgot to take a picture. Best corn bread ever, broccoli steamed just right, and the grits were the best I have ever had! The turkey wings were cooked just right with the gravy tasty, but not overwhelming. No room for desert, though it was tempting. The service was friendly, professional, quick, accessible. The servers answered our questions competently. Customer felt like they were among friends. There was a saxophone player who was excellent. Some walls provided interesting reading materials. There were patrons of differing ages, including a few children who were welcomed and having a good time. I wish it was closer to home. Definitely will be returning! read more

Gigi is lovely the bartenders were great the drinks were great the people next to me had food they said it was fabulous and the band was awesome I wish Gigi so much luck it's a very strange location but thank God for GPS she's going to do great!!! read more

Today at 6:45pm, we entered into this inviting establishment with smooth R&B music playing. It was a nice vibe! We were greeted as soon as we entered, which was warm and welcoming. We were advised to utilize the hands-free menu while the waitress took our drink orders. We couldn't help but notice that they had multi-adapter chargers on each table. Very convenient! There was also a small lamp fixture in the middle of the table, which was cute and decorative. Each table-top had articles embedded in the design of the tables that provides the history of the restaurant. Very nice touch! When the waitress brought out the waters we ordered we noticed that the cups were those newer multi grip cups where wherever you put your hands on them they had a grip there. It was very cool. We ordered the trio appetizer. The macaroni and cheese balls were excellent! Crispy on the outside, creamy on the inside, just like I like them! The soul rolls/collard green egg rolls were a pleasant surprise! The buffalo chicken wontons were also great. My wife and I devoured them! She ordered the Soul Bird with Mac and Cheese and yams and I ordered the Seafood Platter with Mac and Cheese and Collard Greens. My wife's meal came out first and I tried her chicken wings which were fresh, hot and crispy. The honey that they were drizzled with was a delectable addition. My meal came out a few minutes later and the first thing I tried was the cornbread use it with honey butter, and it was definitely some of the best cornbread that I've had in a long time. Ambiance was good. The menu was misleading as they have 2-3 different menus (depending on what site you search them on). They only offer a few dishes in the restaurant which was an immediate disappointment. The service is okay. The staff is not aware of the ingredients in the dishes which is a red flag. They try their best but you can tell that there is no true training. The soul rolls were another disappointment as they were tiny and just contained collard greens. They serve two different wings which one was breaded and the other is naked. They both were bland and lacked flavor. Eating the chicken was like eating bland flour. The shrimp looked good but were super salty. The mac and cheese looked promising but tasted like refrigerator. They have a bar but do not serve real cocktails. They serve a rum-like wine which has no discernible taste. At some point in time they may have been a great spot but I feel that they bait you with the online menu. Not a spot I would recommend. For the price you can find better. They receive a 3 star only because the servers look like they care and want to do a good job. read more

Gigi's is a soul food restaurant located in Sunrise. They have a small stage set up inside and as I understand it they sometimes have live bands and comedy shows during which they charge a $10 cover fee. They were featured on Robert Irvine's show Restaurant impossible in 2015. According to an update from the show's website, Gigi's reports they kept the interior the same while changing some of the menu items. I was invited to a friend's birthday party here. As soon as I stepped inside I could see I was the only person on a Saturday night which felt very strange. As I waited for the other guests to arrive I ordered from the bar a Bob Marley ($8) made with Rhumbero, Pineapple, OJ, Pina Colada Mix, and grenadine. It was sweet and fruity but had no discernable alcohol. The restaurant is cute inside with musical touches like a wall decorated to look like gold records and a drum kit light fixture. Our group of around 12 people were seated at a long wooden table. There wasn't any entertainment that evening and no one else came in the entire night while we were there although I believe they do get crowded on the nights they have events. On the plus side my friend got a private party. After everyone arrived we ordered our food. I was disappointed to be given a menu that had three appetizers and six entrée choices. Most of what I had been planning to order from pictures online were not offered. Almost everyone at the tables expressed disappointment in both the menu and the lack of alcohol in the drinks. The people who ordered the $13 shrimp cocktail complained about it's size. Some people had the chicken and waffles and the grouper and grits and those portions looked okay. I was trying to stay away from fried so I ordered a classic Caesar salad topped with shrimp ($20). It was fine but not a $20 salad. It was a bagged salad you buy in the supermarket for $3 topped with a few shrimp. The person who tried the Soul Rolls, egg rolls stuffed with collard greens was not impressed. Our group was charged an automatic gratuity of 15 percent. The lack of people in the restaurant made it easy for the guest of honor to take pictures with everyone. The tracks were uncensored, not radio version, so one song was particularly profanity laced. Wait service is friendly, prompt and attentive. Mixed drinks are large, well made and inexpensive. Pomegranate margarita was tasty. Happy hour buy 1 get 2nd drink 50% off. This visit more dinner menu items were available. The fried shrimp were large, lightly coated and hot, served with remoulade dipping sauce. The two sides of collard greens and macaroni and cheese were generous portions but could use more seasoning and better reheating. It was my first time checking out this spot, they had free live comedy, which was very nice. 2 out of the 4 acts were really funny, but you know comedy can be tricky. I love the setup and the way the menus are discs and really nice names. I tried the Bob Marley, it was really freaking good. Sweet with a lil spice, very nice. Then I ate, chicken and waffles and some sweet potato fries, the food was really good. Very tasty, the chicken was seasoned very well with a light crisp. The belgian waffle was fluffy and tasted very good, homemade deliciousness. The sweet potato fries were good as well, Brown sugar on top was a very nice touch. Unfortunately, the only rough part was our waiter was a bit rude. She rushed me a lot and forgot about us, the cafe wasn't packed just yet so I don't understand why this was the case, but I didn't let her ruin our night. read more

We went to this place earlier in the day where they just opened up. We had the best waitress which was also the bartender and she was awesome. I believe her name was deanne.‍ she made us her signature drink, the watermelon mojito. And I dont care tooo much for mojitos but hers were awesome. The shrimp grits is wonderful as well. Unfortunately the comedians who performed that evening were okay. They were late starting the show, I was going to leave but decided to stay. After several attempts trying this place... this last time was really fucked up they served me burnt chicken!!! Tried to pass it off as blackened chicken. These people are not about customers service.... the chicken was burnt and had been cooked in old grease. They asses did not learn anything from Chef Robert Irvine! Microwave cornbread that got hard within seconds when the air. Kids loud, running around knocking on windows. I wanted to like this place I AM DONE!!! Wine based liquors should not be a thing. My "vodka" drink was terrible. Probably one of the worst drinks I've ever had. The band was pretty good, and I liked the atmosphere. I had a horrible customer service experience here. I went there for the first time after an event to meet up with friends. After arriving and being seated for about 20 minutes, my friend advised me to go to the bar to put in a beverage order, as it would likely be faster, since he'd had to wait over an hour for his food to arrive. In the 20 mins that I had entered the establishment and taken a seat, a server had never approached the table once, even with new people sitting there. Fine. I headed to the bar. A second friend had been waiting for her order, which she'd put in an hour prior to my arrival. We sipped and chatted and noticed food coming out for tables that had put in their order long after. Had to flag down the server several times, in which we were assured the order would be coming out soon. Not once during the 2+ hours we were there did the server ask if we needed anything or attempt to take the orders of the new people sitting at the table, including myself. Another hour passes by. After several reassurances that the food was coming, we were informed that the kitchen is closing. We again inquired about the missing order. Were told at that time that the kitchen was out of the ingredients to make the dish. We asked why we had not been informed 2+ hours ago when the order went to the kitchen. Asked if there were any vegetarian dishes to offer my friend, who was starving at this point. Were told no. There's nothing they can do or offer. As a first time patron of this business, I would not return. I had had intentions of placing an order myself but decided not to after seeing the ridiculous wait times. I doubt any of the 4 other people at the table will be coming back either. When a business goofs up this bad, usually a manager attempts to resolve the issue, offering an alternative or comping the table in some way. This didn't happen either. It's said that a first impression is worth a thousand words. This one left a bad taste in my mouth - pun intended. read more

Came here because I saw a free comedy show advertised and said the restaurant was featured on the Food Network (for Restaurant Impossible lol). I thought it would be fun since I have not seen a comedy show before and my friend from out of town was coming. So I invited some friends for an early birthday celebration. The comedy show was kinda cringy but entertaining with local comedians. They have shows every 3rd Friday. So show said it would start at 8:30. We had called ahead to have our party of 9 seated together which they were very accommodating. 4 of us showed up early at 8:00 we got seated and had another table for the other people going to show up. But then they seated other people there. We had asked why they seated other people and they said if they don't show up 15 min after the show starts then it will be for other people. But it wasn't even 8:45 so then the server said 15 min after 8pm. Which didn't make sense. But it worked out because the other table next to us never showed up. But I thought that was pretty unprofessional. Even so the show didn't even start till after 9:30pm. The food was decent. They serve mostly soul food which caters to the crowd there. The best thing we ordered was the bbq chicken flatbread which is almost just as good as CPK. The worst was the fried chicken liver (self explanatory) strong liver tasting. Overall I probably wouldn't come here again since it is so far and the food was mediocre. But I had a good time with friends and did have a good laugh with the line up of comedians. read more

I've been going to Gigi's at least once a week since December 2012 or January 2013. Wednesdays are for midweek breaks where I can check out some local talent onstage during the open mic show while enjoying chicken and waffles. Saturdays, I'm there for hours, sipping sweet tea as I catch the dinner show, the second act and Amateur Night. Cats like Jazzman Jorge, Paul Stephen Wilson and The All-Nighters cover most musical bases and their respective audiences have packed the place every time I've been there on a Saturday. Saturday is also when I explore their menu even further. I give thumbs up to their chicken and waffles, chicken wraps and sandwiches, fries and desserts. On occasion, I'll have fish or a burger. Both are nice, but what they do with chicken makes my mouth dance! The service ranges from fair to fabulous depending on who you encounter. Gigi herself greets old and new customers with a smile that totally does away with whatever stress and frustrations you may have endured during the week Aside from their great sweet potato creations and brewed tea, what I like most about Gigi's Music Cafe is that it's SMOKE-FREE! No nauseating cigarette smoke means you can enjoy your meal even more, relax while taking in the shows, and not have to worry about subjecting your kids to more airborne carcinogens. Oh yeah, Gigi's Music Cafe is a family-friendly environment, but not a noisy playground with costumed rodents and pizza-like food product. This place is even ideal for going on dates. Not that I would know from experience, but what I've seen. Gigi's Music Cafe loses a star simply for the small size of the place. Perhaps a different style or arrangement of tables would make seating a full house more comfortable and flowing, but, as it is, it's not enough to deter me from becoming a regular there. All in all, if you're an upbeat person looking for good food, good times, good people, and a smoke-free environment, you can't go wrong with Gigi's Music Cafe. read more

So I haven't been to Gigi's Music Cafe in a few years. I was in the area so I said why not give it a try. When we got the there it was a little early so we beat the rush. Happy hour is daily 5-8 pm so we took advantage of it. The food was good soul food and everything we had was very tasty. They have a peach Chardonnay that's a must have! The live band Ladies of Soul was amazing. It reminded me of a D.C. jazz spot. This little gem of a place is located about ten minutes from me and what a surprise it was! The band for the night was just getting set up about 730. Turned out the band name for the night was Dr K and the copays and was my friend's optometrist. Small world, right. They were pretty terrific. About the food: I ordered the fish sandwich with sweet potato fries. Ten dollars! A huge portion! It was so delicious. I loved it so much, I ate 3/4 of it and had a large enough portion for lunch the next day. Forewarned the service as others have said, while pleasant, is slow. I think the food took about 40 minutes from order to finish. But I like the place so much, I can't even take off a point for it. I'd feel guilty. This is an amazing place! I chose this place to have dinner with a friend and his wife, whom I'd never met. They have recently expanded into the next store front and doubled their size. The size of the space is nearly as big as the hearts of the staff here. I was pleasantly surprised to learn this was karaoke night, one of my favorites events but I didn't see myself performing because I wanted to get to know this new person. We were greeted by our outstanding and handsome server, Caesar, as well as the owner of the place, Miss GiGi herself. Karaoke was just beginning. The opening was a little loud so we asked them to turn it down so we could have our conversation and they worked with us. Little did we know that would be short-lived. Each couple ordered and appetizer combo of spring rolls, wings and cornbread. It was very delicious but I thought was a bit short for $9.95. It had a couple of different sauces on it that were tasty and there was a brief spring lettuce mix on the plate if you were so inclined. The premier dish for the restaurant is the chicken and waffle. This is a staple in many soul food restaurants and you know what they say, "When in Rome", so we all went to Rome. This was a trip well worth it! The waffle was thick enough to enjoy the chicken and the chicken was perfectly fried and not at all greasy. There are a couple of choices of ways for your waffle to come but I chose the buttermilk version with extra honey on the side. Believe me, nothing else is needed for this. Now, if you don't like LOUD music and karaoke, please go on a different night than Thursday. And keep in mind, this is Gigi's MUSIC Cafe, not Gigi's QUIET Cafe. If you want to enjoy a lively night of good food and great entertainment, Thursday night is your night. But if you want an quiet evening and less ambiance, either try someplace else or a different night because the music and signing got so loud we decided to leave. I visited Gigi's for the first time last week with a friend. First let me say that this place has a smooth atmosphere. Picture walking through the front door past a stage where talent is showcased. There are golden records on the left wall and guitars and a drum on the right wall. The bar is centered against the back wall. The lighting is low and the feel is that of a poetry lounge. We ordered the fried green tomatoes and the soul rolls for appetizers. Both were amazing! Then we ordered our entrees...I ordered the Meatloaf with mac and cheese and green beans. My friend ordered the fish and grits. The fish was raw in the center. When we alerted the waitress, she was very polite in offering an alternative, which upon arrival was incorrect. In my opinion, the right thing to do, or at least from a customer service standpoint, would have been to comp the meal. Instead we were overcharged and told that the menu pricing was incorrect. There was no effort to even honor the published price. Overall, this place has a lot of potential. The concept is unique. However, if Gigi and crew want repeat business, they should try harder to ensure these types of mistakes don't happen, and if they do, fix it in a satisfactory manner. I will return to this establishment, but it will be a while. Everyone deserves a chance to correct mistakes. Gigi, I am rooting for you! read more
