I go here all the time and it's always amazing. Staff is great, food is amazing, and overall it's just very good. I come and get breakfast alone, dinner with my dad, lunch with my friends, takeout, and more. It's always amazing. It's clean and usually not too busy so you get seated and waited on quickly. The food never takes too long and it's plated beautifully. The portions for what you get can be iffy. One grilled cheese with a few fries is $7 but the Chicken Parmesan with garlic bread is between $13-$18. I would come here every other day if I had the money. The photos are of when my dad and I went. I got the chicken Parmesan which was amazing and my dad got a Beef Manhattan which I think they call a Hot and Hearty Sandwich. He said it was amazing but couldn't eat it all. If you want any recommendations here's mine. Don't get the Parmesan chicken it's gave me food poisoning for the past 4 days, will not recommend any of the chicken from here.

April 12, 2023 at 1230p Gilbert Café at 628 North Gilbert St, Danville, IL 61832 I had the most amazing salad prepared at Gilbert Café. The salad is called Strawberry Bistro Pecan with grilled chicken breast, spring mix greens, freshly sliced strawberries, pecans, and feta cheese crumbles with a raspberry vinaigrette. I ordered this salad during the noon lunch hour to eat for dinner last night. The café was super busy during the noon lunch hour, but the cashier who took my order was attentive, polite, patient and gave recommendations on what to order. All of the food coming out of the kitchen looked delicious. I waited about 10-15minutes for my order. The salad came in a large styrofoam take-out container with a sheet of foil lining the bottom. The café provided (3) small containers of raspberry vinaigrette dressing and (2) eating utensil kits. The salad also came with a choice of the "homemade soup-of-the-day" or chili for an extra dollar. I was NOT disappointed with their chili, perfect blend of spices with (2) packets of oyster crackers. The chili came in a medium sized styrofoam cup with a plastic lid. The salad had a perfect balance of all ingredients with the appropriate amount of grilled chicken strips and dressing. I only have two recommendations: to have two cashiers, one to take carry-out orders/payments and the other to take the dine-in payments. I went here at lunch time with my husband, it was our anniversary and we wanted to have lunch together, everyone around us keeps recommending us this place so we caved in bad went. Stopped here with friends because they are one of the few spots with outdoor seating in the area. Wow what a surprise! Excellent food service and desserts! One of the nicest waitresses I've had ever. Time for another Danville review after a visit to Illinois. Coronavirus: 1. All staff masked, all areas cleaned quickly and properly! 2. Outside seating was available; inside seating properly paced for social distancing. I love this place, and the remodel is awesome. Had a Hash Brown/Egg, etc skillet (I am sorry - I forgot the name). My friend had some smash-up breakfast because he is on keto. Our server was fantastic and took all of my friends questions and keto-crazy substitutions in stride. Our food came quickly and was well presented. Orange juice was fresh squeezed as far as I could tell. Prices are reasonable, and the menu is pretty extensive. The place is super clean and the staff, many of whom are young folks (which is good to see), were friendly and attentive - and they smiled! Arrived in the parking lot that was packed and also had my 5 month old son with me. I was dreading a wait but to my surprise there was none. Our server, Annette, was due with her baby in a few weeks and I was shocked she was still working and standing on her feet so close to being due- I couldn't do it. Tried it the first time today for breakfast. Ordered Biscuits & Gravy. They were lukewarm, some parts were actually cold, my wife's toast didn't even appear toasted. It looked like white bread with melted butter. Then when the bill came we were charged an additional $11.00 for two mimosas that were ordered at another table. The meal was served quick, two quick I would say. Maybe because they only are allowed to seat 50% of the restaurant due to the virus and they are trying to move people in and out? I don't know, I do think the meal was rushed, slow it down a notch. Pay a little better attention to what you are doing. read more

Excellent food! Salads are generous and always fresh. Fries are great! Pork tenderloin is huge and great flavor. Love the gyro! Chicken tenders are giant and seem fresh battered, not frozen restaurant supply. Breakfast options are great, too. My only complaint would be hollandaise seems too processed, but don't let that keep you from trying this fantastic local gem. My girlfriend and I come here quite frequently, and the food is as good as the service we receive. I've never had one complaint about this place. They keep your drink filled and the food is so good. The food is not consistant coming out of the kitchen. If you can't cook a sunnyside egg ( which means runny yolk not hard yolk ) you should'nt call youself a cook. I've had it cooked wrong 2 out of the three times I have ordered them. Dont get me started on the steak that they can't seem to cook med-rare. I sent it back twice and had to eat well done steak just so i could get the hell out of there. I felt sorry for the waitress. I think the owners should rethink who they have cooking their food. I found Gilbert Street Cafe on Yelp as we were passing Danville on a road trip. We stopped for lunch, and the place was busy. The busiest business we could see driving into town, which boded well. I had the Greek Salad, friends ordered cheeseburger with cheddar and a Reuben. The portions were very large. I was delighted with my salad which had fresh crisp greens, crisp onions, black olives, crisp green peppers, pepperocinis, and a solid smattering of feta. The dressing came on the side which was my preference, and there was plenty, more than I needed. I took the majority of the salad to go, for my supper, as it was quite large. I was more than satisfied. It even came with a soup, so I tried the creamy chicken and rice - way more food than I needed. Soup was on the thick side and heavy on the cornstarch, but hit a good note with two of us. My friend said his Reuben was pretty good, everything but the pastrami which he thought seemed to be falling out of the sandwich (smallish pieces versus big slices?) or maybe was drier than he was accustomed to. The sauerkraut, cheese and marbled rye were spot on. Fries were ok to good. Friend having the cheese burger (and a banana milkshake) was happy with the burger, glad they got the cheddar not the American cheese, and thoroughly enjoyed the milkshake. Our waitress, Alyssa, was fast, efficient, knew her business, and had everything in anticipation of our needs. Kitchen worked fast- we didn't have to wait long at all for our meal though we were there at high noon on a Sunday with a full restaurant. I had been eyeballing the fried chicken at the table next to ours, it looked very good, as did the spinach and tomato Hollandaise eggs on an English muffing at the adjacent table. We will eat there again on our next trip through this part of the country. read more
