For us Floridians, the Florida Keys represent a gateway to another world, another dimension. A place where you leave all your problems behind, where there is no hurry, where the concept of time is nonexistent. It is one of the first spots on the road that presents everything you would want without making a drive. There is normally plenty of parking, but on crowded weekends, it can fill up and then you have to think of backup plans, but after that, you are home free. After food, you can take your drink and take a walk by the beach and enjoy the sunset. The food is reasonable for a bar especially a tiki bar. To be honest we came for the band sippin fire we'd love to follow. I had a wedge salad with tuna which was your basic salad the blue cheese was not very good to be honest. It was more like a lot of mayonnaise and a little blue cheese. I did have fish spread smoked which is okay but it was a little bit salty. Overall though it's a great place to visit especially because of the water access and there's so much to do there with the beach and the docks especially if you have a boat. In the beginning the service was really good when there were a few people there but as it got busy of course the service was waning. They also mandated 20% tip for over $100 which I understand they need money but you should judge them on their quality of service. read more

We drove down to the Keys on a Monday to avoid the weekend crowds and it was great! We spent time at the Tiki Bar with 2 other couples. We had the place to ourselves basically. A few people were swimming and kayaking. There were lots of birds to watch. A nice view from the bar table. About 3 cars were in the parking lot. The food was average, we had Clam Chowder, Lobster Bisque, and Peel and Eat Shrimp. They were skimpy on the clams and lobster. The shrimp were bland. I love the atmosphere, seeing the bikes and appreciate the added security measures. I love the wings and the crab & conch fritters. Drinks are ok. This is a cool spot to hang out with friends while having some drinks on your way to the lower keys or on your way back. However, get there early or you will find yourself having to walk. Theres no communication between the front parking and the the parking near the tiki bar. Once the parking is full they'll close it and you'll have to park under the bridge as people leave and space opens up because theres no communication they will still not allow you in so gets there early! read more

I heard that Gilbert's recently had become more "Miamified" and that it was always packed full of people from Miami, thus changing the vibe and feel of the place. Well, I went on a Friday night and it was dead. I wasn't upset about it seeing as we were just stopping in for a couple drinks and appetizers. Service was pretty good. The food..... ok, so we had oysters and stone crab. The oysters were okay, nothing major. Some were small, some were huge. I like them somewhere in between but quality wise they were alright. We got our half pound of stone crab we ordered and we were suprised to see how many we got. We were so happy. Quality wise, probably our least favorite in the keys. And we've had a ton at different spots during stone crab season this year. It's so important how the person preparing them cracks them. Whoever they had back there did not crack them well. We ended up doing the majority of the cracking ourselves. They also seemed a bit over cooked. They had a rubbery texture. My least favorite part was the sauce they gave us..... it was some sort of coconut flavored mayonnaise.. at least that's what it tasted like. When we received the bill, we realized we got so many stone crab because we were charged for a whole pound, not half a pound. Lol, so there went that excitement. I guess during the day and just for drinks would be the way to go here at Gilbert's and I'm sure I would've been more satisfied. But on this night, not so much. read more

So we have been coming to Gilbert's Tiki Bar for over 25 years... We love the atmosphere , food and enjoy the live bands they have. Yesterday we drove down from Broward County with friends in from Dallas. We ordered fish dip which was good. My husband had mahi sandwich which was good. But myself and our two guest had mahi lightly battered basket with sweet potato fries. The mahi was so thinly cut that there was more batter than fish. Then it was over cook and very dry. I was so upset because we had our friends that really wanted a good Mahi meal.. I'm not sure if this is the quality of food they are putting out or we just had a bad meal. This place is a hidden gem. I drive from North Miami which takes about 1 hr 30 min or so and it's definitely worth it. I been coming to this location for two years. Love the atmosphere and staff is friendly! Their wings is my all time favorite with very crispy french fries. The drinks have a good amount of alcohol which is great since most places add a tiny drop and it tastes so watered down but not here. I recommend arriving early around 11am to get a good spot by the water and before it gets packed. They also offer kayaking and jetskis. We paid $350 to stay here. this is at least $100 more tHan the average price of the other hotels in the area. anchorage resort right beside them was charging $250. So since we were paying a premium I didn't expect to go to the restaurant and have the bartender cheat us. this review is for the restaurant and for the bartender that pulled a fast one on us. He was working the bar on Thursday jan 2,2025 around 530pm. Short and stocky with a beard. Brown hair or dirty blondish but not black hair. Came to this bar because we are staying here and got a 10 percent off coupon at check in. I ordered a drink from the bar and asked him if I could use the 10percent off with the drink. He tries to dissuade me by saying it only can be used once so it's better to use it on a larger bill. I'm thinking well that's pretty assumptive that you would assume we will be having dinner here. I tell him no it's ok I'll use it on my drink. He says I need to show him the coupon which I didn't have on me but I had my wristband on showing I was indeed staying at the hotel. He makes me go get the coupon so I go back to the room to find it and then give it to him. When I show him the coupon he asks me a second time are you sure you want to use it bec you won't be able to use it again on your larger bill and I assure him yes I want to use it on my cocktail . I give him the coupon and then he rings me up, after I pay I look at the receipt and the menu again and after all that, he deliberately charged me the full price. What is wrong with this dude, we had multiple conversations and the coupon is a promotion from the hotel/restaurant, he was clearly just being a dick. Considering we were staying here, we could have chosen to have lunch/dinner and drinks here many more times but with how this idiot pulled a fast one, I told my husband I rather drive out to the restaurants than spend our money at this restaurant. To the owner, this bartender is doing some shady things. Don't give the coupons out to encourage your guests to eat and drink here if the employees deliberately don't honor it. Never had this happen before At any hotel restaurant. This guy clearly cannot claim ignorance because we literally had two full conversations about me wanting to use this coupon at the front desk person gave me. Don't let the exterior discourage you from coming to this place, it's definitely, a hidden gem. Once we check in, we were given 2 complimentary continental breakfast passes and 2 complimentary drinks to be used at the tikki bar . Check out is at 11:00 a.m. and check in is 3;00p.m Our room was very spacious and clean. The beds were amazingly comfortable with lots of pillows. The bathroom has a modern look to it and a great shower head . Tikki bar and restaurant on site. Lorenzo was our waiter and his last table for night. He was so down to earth and made us feel very welcome. The food was delicious , I order the chicken Philly (comes with french fries) , my son ordered the kids hot dogs (comes with a bag of potato chips) He liked how the hot dogs bun was different. On the weekends , you can find a live band performing on the the stage. There's a private beach, a small pool next to the Tiki Bar, docks for boats, and kayaks/ jet ski rental. Beware if you have an emergency and need to cancel your reservation at this place. We had a one night reservation and had something come up. We called, sent messages and emails 9 days before our reservation to cancel and received no response. Then they tried to charge our credit card. Their policies state that you must cancel 72 hours in advance which we did. It is a 2 star motel, I guess that means bad customer service. read more

My friend's birthday was last weekend and I told her I would treat her to one of her favorite places. This is actually my 1st time at Gilbert's . As I walked in the place is very nice, they have the restaurant and then they have the bar area next to the little beach. · I liked that it was a waterfront property (all rooms face the water) and that it's super easy to find as it's the first place you see when you hit the Keys. The room has an amazing view. Disliked · Everything. I know they remodeled but it's like they used 1980's skills and tech to remodel. The room was only partially clean. We went to open the blinds and that window ledge was gross. Biggest issue was that I picked Gilbert's thinking it would be an actual resort we could relax at. Nope. First off....there's zero breakfast. When we arrived we got a bag with two muffins and oj. Ok. Fine. No breakfast (even though the free breakfast was one of the things we liked.) Secondly...they just randomly decide when to close pools and bar. Wednesday night they said "dusk" and we had to rush to get a drink (they give you a free drink but you have to use it on the first night and it's only good for beer or wine which is a total joke) because the hours listed don't match. Drinks were just downright horrible. Service was also just poor. We only drank here one night and decided after to go elsewhere for that. Food program here isn't great but that's forgivable. What isn't forgivable is the fact that we were here for four nights and had to be our own housekeeping crew. Don't tell me it's COVID related - we stayed in Miami, Oklahoma and Texas before here and they were all able to service rooms while we were out. I'm super annoyed that me, a woman with terminal cancer, had to go down each day and change out towels, get toilet paper, take out the trash. What was the point of paying $200 a night? For a crappy dive motel? I had to go buy two fans from Family Dollar because the a/c here is just not great. It's old and drips. Don't bother with the pool as it is so warm it's like swimming in your bathtub and the beach is a joke. We ended up going up to Founders Park to swim and drank at local places in Largo and Islamorada. We only used the room to sleep in. Police are always here. The place is sketchy and while the women who work the front were nice, I will never recommend or stay here again. read more

So this place is convenient it has a very small beach that has several crocodiles in the area caution signs which I've never seen but I would be concerned about. We got here on a weekday at 6 PM which is affectively happy hour for this area and there was two bartenders and multiple wait staff attending tables in the restaurant and the service was extremely slow. And I was standing the young lady that helped me was very slow she forgot my order three times it took me 12 minutes to get my drink from the time I arrive at the bar and she didn't put in my food order until after 15 minutes of me waiting at the bar and recommended two things that I had never even ordered. Additionally I paid $15 for six tiny comforters that were mediocre at best. First time here and I must say it was truly a pleasure! My waiter Carrie, was so nice and attentive, she made sure we were okay throughout the time being. This place is like a restaurant/bar that's sitting on a beach like area so it's great to bring the kids, they have an area where you can do motorized sports which is not offered by the restaurant but by another company on the premises (see pictures for prices). Parking is attached to the restaurant however they were having some type of construction so we had to park under the bridge which is quit a distance when it's 97° weather. read more

This isba great place to drink near the water and listen to music. The beach is small, but the tiki bar is very large. They have seating for large groups and several aras of bar searing to watch tv if you are alone. They have funny signature drink specials and the bartenders as attentive. They call some of their frozen drinks "Boobies" and my wife enjoyed one followed by a drink they call a pain in the ass, she immensely enjoyed both. Friend had the Hogfish sandwich, he enjoyed it, it looked good, my wife had a Mahi sandwich which she enjoyed, and I had a basic grilled chicken sandwich, nothing to write home about. Beach area is very small and has a lot of rocks, but that's typical of areas of The Keys. Tiki Bar is right on the water, which I like. You can order drinks and food (hit or miss depending on the day/cook) from your lounge chairs. Catching the sunset is always nice, we like to go later in the day and stay until 7:30-8 pm. read more

Just come walk in. After my two hour drive the management of this establishment decided to close the road and not allow people to enter. Shame on you!!! I will post this on every site possible. Really sub par. The food was cold and completely devoid of seasoning. For being so close to the water the fish did not taste fresh at all. I got the mahi mahi dinner and it was not good. The fish was sooo dry and over cooked, the rice was bland, and the veggies were cold and unseasoned. I wouldn't pay for this meal- let alone $22!!!! Someone I was with tried one of my mushrooms and ended up spitting it out. Another person got the grilled shrimp and said that it was too bland. The other person I was with got the raw tuna tacos and she liked them but everyone else thought that they were gross.
