A very fun weekend atmosphere (and also quite busy). It's a huge tiki with tons of tables and live music. There's car parking and boat parking. We came just for drinks and some light food. I ordered the lobster bisque and the boyfriend got the fish tacos. You get 3 fairly small tacos and a side of tortilla chips for $16. While they were good, slightly overpriced. The lobster bisque was super yummy! Finally a place in Key Largo that has yummy soup. It's creamy and has a good amount of lobster chunks. The drinks are pricey (horny boobie was $13 -- fun drink names!) It is the keys and the location on the water is pretty awesome, so the more pricey items make sense. We just needed a bathroom. But then we thought drinks would be nice. Then we realized they had stone crab ... and key lime pie ... and a swim beach. We could have stayed for hours and hours. The staff sure didn't discourage us! The mahi dinner was incredible. The crab amazing. The conch chowder mediocre but the clam chowder made up for it. Plus they serve the cocktail orange crush. First off this place has an amazing location! On the water and easy access with boats! Massive tiki bar and plenty of open areas with a small beach they made! This place is a hotel/ bar location. I didn't stay at the hotel so no comment about that. Drinks seem to be well priced. Food is over priced for the amount and quality. Tried a few different options of food and none were worthy of the price they charged us for! Besides that the service was a bit long for my liking. They seemed to be understaffed for a Sunday afternoon. (And the place was packed to the top) so service was lacking. They need to get that under control. I would like to come back to this spot because I do pass it up all the time on the way down the keys, but now I'm just not going to come back for drinks it looks like. Always looking for a scenic motorcycle ride outside of the craziness of the city, thanks to my fellow Yelpers, I decided to ride out to Gilbert's Resort for Easter dinner 2019. It was only about 1 1/2 hr ride from North Beach to Gilbert's Resort via all of Miami's toll highways (and some riding in the berm on the bridges to the Keys to bypass the stopped traffic...sorry not sorry 4 wheel vehicles). If you want a toll-free drive here, check Google Maps for that route. I took that route once to the Keys (US 1) and would NOT recommend it, unless you're a fan of aggressive driving, red lights, and making a road trip take forever. Anywhoo, Gilbert's Resort is located on that bridge into the Keys that when you reach it, you exhale and think "yes, I finally made it to paradise". I love that there is a large lot dedicated for motorcycles right next to the tiki bar. Cars, you will probably have to park further away but it's an easy walk or courtesy van ride to the tiki bar. This place is fun for the whole family. There's food, booze, live music, a small swimming beach, and watersport activities. The food and drinks are good, kinda bar/diner-y, and not too $$. Even though the tiki bar was busy, service was pretty decent. I would definitely make future visits to this first/last stop into the Keys. read more

Cool beachy vibe; HUGE Tiki bar right on the sand with sea breezes wafting along to keep it fresh. Friendly bartender who does not hold back on the alcohol in the drinks! I got a sea breeze, which was tasty and refreshing. We ordered the trio of Ceviche (conch, shrimp, fish), calamari, a burger, and hot dog. The calamari were a bit over-breaded (my preference is light breading), but were hot and crispy. The burger was juicy, and the hot dog came wrapped in a nice piece of bread (instead of a bun). The ceviche was the star of the show, IMO. The Shrimp came with a zesty mango salsa and was the most spicy of the three; the conch were with fresh red peppers, and the fish was most like a classic Peruvian sauce. This place looks so cute as you pull up to it, but the food is epically bad. We got a shrimp and fries basket and both the shrimp and the fries look straight out of the Costco or Walmart freezer section. We tried other things like clam chowder, salads, and everything was the same level of BAD. It's a cute, big tiki on the water but DON'T try the food. Just have an overpriced drink and find somewhere better to eat. On the positive side, our bartender was really nice, so that was good. read more

Great place to get away... Came here to the restaurant only may I add, not to the actual hotel to enjoy some keys living. The hotel was actually full so parking was scarce. My husband had to drop me off in the front of the hotel with the kiddos as he hauled back all the way to street parking. Luckily and graciously the hotel does provide transport from the street back to the hotel which is nice and convenient. Reserved a table for about 10 in the middle of the restaurant. Long story short ended up having to close the tab and move outside. If you sit in the middle of the restaurant in front of the stage the music is not average, it is LOUD. So be aware of that. We didn't think it would be as loud as it was. Anyway we ended up moving with no big deal. Our first server was Ashley. She was SO great. I loved her personality and her kindness. She was never rude and did not get upset when we had to move. She was also very quick and attentive. Great server. Sadly we got a different one outside. She was good as well but we did not have as much interaction with her as we did the first. Outside tables by the beach close at sundown (probably due to visibility). Inside the restaurant it goes until late. The food was OK. I really believe you come here for drinks not food. Drinks were also on the pricey side but worth it. Tasted good and were strong. Had the conch chowder. Honestly horrible. 0 conch in it. Fish tacos and tuna nachos were decent. Nothing crazy but were good. My sons hot dog was surprisingly good however his kids meal was $9 with fries which I thought was a bit too much. I will come back for the vibes and the drinks. This is my first time here, I'll be honest. I pulled up and I thought great a motel that I paid good money for that's gross! When I got to my room, there is a seal on the door showing it's been sanitized, I opened the door to find a very clean room! It's cleaner than most Hotels I've paid lots of money for!! They have rules here and are strict on them, but they are easy to follow and basically don't ruin our stuff and you're good. The staff is friendly, restaurant they have here is amazing, and needles to say the beach area was just right for my family and I! They do ask you do not bring outside drinks or food outside your room! That's fine with me because the drinks you order, they have so much alcohol in them you only need 2! So in a nutshell great place to stay! I'd stay more time here if I could! I'll be back! read more

So I want to start off by saying this was my first time at Gilbert's, I went because of the recommendation from my boyfriend. Visiting from Miami this place gave a sense of normalcy during Covid-19. We were immediately greated by the bartender Andres, he was super friendly and attentive. He provided great service. My boyfriend and I are in the hospitality business as well and we wanted to get away to enjoy. Gilbert's has a great atmosphere and the food was awesome. We ate the peel and eat shrimp and raw oysters, which were a big size. The smoked fish dip was awesome and a crab starter was equally as delicious. What an awesome place. My friend from Cali and I went for a short visit to Gilbert's resort seeing as there was a beach right in front of their bar area. This was legitimately the most beautiful beach bar we had ever been to. Unlike other places that charge you to enter the beach even if you are eating there, Gilbert's resort offers their beach for free! It made us want to order more because of how nice it was just sitting there in front of the beach eating our fish and chips and sipping on our daiquiris. It was heaven and felt like a much-needed vacation somewhere far away. Will definitely be back and will be taking all of our friends here!! read more

This review is of the restaurant only* Had suchhhhh a nice time at Gilbert's! My friend and I decided to meet up there and spend the day hanging out. It was a Friday and we got there early- around 11. The vibe was so nice and chill- typical Key West feel. There was lots of shaded seating under the large tiki huts or covered benches closer to the water. The space was actually pretty large, with a dining area, 2 bars, and benches in the sand. We started with some Coronas, then tried the frozen drinks. They were tasty but soooooo weak! Very disappointing. My best friend spoke with the waitress about it and told her she was unhappy with her drink and the waitress offered to take the drink back to the bartender to see what they could do. She came back a few minutes later and the bartender had added a little more alcohol. My friend was happier with the drink then, but it also made the drink much more watery. We honestly got a better buzz from the Corona than the frozen drink.... It was sooo hot and my daughter and I got in the water and played around some and were able to rinse off in the shower they have on the deck when we got out. Great option to have that shower!! Afterwards we ordered food- my daughter had the children's hotdog and chips, I ordered a chicken Caesar salad, my friend ordered the chicken wings, and my friend's mom had the Mahi-Mahi fingers with fries. The portions were great and each plate came with a good amount of food. My daughter was happy with her food and she and I both tried the Mahi fingers and loveeeed them, but my friend did not like the Mahi fingers. I was not impressed with my salad, either. The lettuce was kind of limp and looked about 5 minutes away from going brown, and was not chilled at all. Bleh... I also tried a wing and liked it too, but my friend didn't. Not sure if she was being extra picky that day, cause I liked everything BUT my salad, lol. Guess it goes to show that taste really is subjective. Service started out great but kinda wained halfway through. By then end I was having to get up to find the waitress several times and when the bill came my friend was in for a rude surprise. The waitress had charged her an additional $4 for that extra shot in her drink! In all our years of drinking when the scenario has occurred where a drink was simply too weak and unenjoyable we have never, EVER been charged to have it fixed. It's like being unhappy with your food. If you aren't happy with it they send it back and fix it, they don't charge you a fee for a new plate! Also, if she was going to charge my friend she should have informed her of that and gotten her ok first. Anyway, overall we had a great time and a wonderful, relaxing, and fun day just vibing out. Not a place to get a meal that wows you. It looks like it attracts the drinking crowd that is staying there or boaters coming in. I was down in the Keys for a week, visiting my mom and seeing some of the old haunts from when I grew up down here as a kid. Lots has changed, but a lot has also stayed the same. Gilbert's is still there... and my statement above reflects it... a lot has changed there, but then a lot has stayed the same. Access to the place is different, and frankly a heck of a lot safer since there are now on-ramps and off-ramps, instead of making a harrowing left hand turn from the North-bound lane or making crazy accellerations into either lane when leaving the place. They are able to hold a lot more people these days, with multiple bars and live music a good portion of the time. Gone are the days of the sleepy bar on the water where you could get a drink and calmly watch the boats go by... these days it reminds me more of what Holiday Isle used to be twenty or thirty years ago (that place is definitely not the same now...) However, it is also the same. The little beach is still there, and folks still pull up in their boats to get gas and a beer. The feel of the place is still the same, despite the expansions that have happened. However, when I visited, we weren't really looking for the hustle and bustle that existed. We were looking for a place where we could get a drink, sit by the water and look out, and have a conversation. Unfortunately the band that was playing was so loud it was impossible to have a normal conversation, no matter where you sat. The band was good, mind you... very good, and playing cover songs that I have never heard a cover band play before... but they were simply too loud for what we wanted. We never even bothered to sit down, because everywhere we went it was simply too loud to be pleasant. Now, this was on a weekend, so it is expected to be busy, and I expect that during the week when all of the folks from the mainland are out of the way it gets a lot more pleasant and less rowdy. My suggestion is to pick what kind of crowd and atmosphere you want, and go at the appropriate time for that kind of atmosphere. read more

Aww the beautiful Florida Keys..pure ocean beauty. Well it's a beautiful Saturday and hubby and I decided to hit up Key Largo and head to Gilbert's. We've arrived and so far I've seen three dolphins. Love the ocean. We are Keys regulars although usually for fishing or hanging out at the tiki bar (when it was fun). Been coming here since new owners screwed up the tiki bar though. Let me start off by saying Gilbert's is not fancy. You don't have to dress up and leave your attitudes at home. You come here to relax, drink, paddleboard, eat, jet ski, swim, or just be at peace with the beautiful 360 view. We love coming here to eat,drink,enjoy the water, and just chill so if your looking for more keep driving. Lunch here was good. Fish sandwich and fries and a blackened chicken sandwich. For drinks I was in the mood for pina colada's and hubby had beer. We had the perfect lazy Saturday and even found a perfect spot looking out into the ocean...even took a little nap. The only negative I guess is there's not enough beach area but the parking is easy, the locals are nice and the drinks nice and cold. So come kick your feet up...listen to the old school rock band, have a good lunch and order that next drink with an extra shot read more

If someone had told us, or their website mentioned it, that they let the resort open to the general public on the weekends, we would NOT have booked the place! Thursday and Friday was peace and quiet. Very relaxing. Come the weekend, the place was so polluted with loud, obnoxious people and music coming in from the driveway and waterway, they took up every single seat in the restaurant area, bars, beach and even the pool - which was only supposed to be used by the PAYING customers! Of our 4 day stay, two of them we had to leave to find food and drinks because there wasn't a seat available, and on the way back into the resort, we had to sit in traffic going in just to get to our room. On a positive note, the service and food at the tiki bar was very good. The rooms are modern and beds are comfortable. But if you're looking for a relaxing getaway, this is NOT the place! read more

Don't come here expecting 5 star accommodations. Come here to have a good meal, great live music, a place to lay your head and if you bring your boat a place to drop it in and dock it . I have stayed here several times, brought my boat several times and stopped in a whole bunch a times for drinks, a bite to eat and live music. Lets just say Gilberts is a really fun place. It is the "Keys" in every sense of the of the term. This is the kind of place most South Florida natives picture in there heads when you speak of the Keys. Now let me explain what I mean. The hotel is not a 5 star hotel, hell it might be a 3 star if you hit it on a good night. But they are very open about this and do not pretend to be anything they are not. Most who stay here are not here to be pampered. They are here because this place rocks. What it does have is a killer Tiki bar, great live music every night and weekends, really good food and its close proximity to the mainland. For those with boats there is a ramp that is free to use with room rental and you can even dock your boat behind your room. They have a fresh water pool a small but very nice beach and a million dollar view of the bay and sunset. The location at the begining of Key Largo means your close to many attractions. John Pennekamp is just a couple miles down the road and can even be accessed by boat from here. Access to the ocean and all it has to offer is just beyond the park. The prices are very reasonable considering all this and you are in the Keys. Enough said, next time your down in the Keys check this place out. You have to go by it on the way in and out. So either start your trip here or end it here with a toast. This place does get busy on the weekends and if you get here late you could have to park a ways up the road. This is a pleasant place to have a drink and enjoy a little time in its small beach. Lately though, you go for happy hour and one hour into happy hour ( should be from 4-7p), they will do last call and stop serving you because they are " slow" and they want to send some servers home! You can go to the main tiki, but the mosquitos will eat you alive. Last time I was there, i had to eat my food so fast and run out of there. Unfortunately this will not attract people, on the contrary , i don't think I will stop by be t time I head to the keys for the weekend. This business should try doing things to attract people to go there, and not deter the ones going from coming back. That's why business are going down, bad service, advertising certain times and then asking you to move. read more

The Keys is a place where people go to feel welcome and everyone is pleasant. It's sad that Gilbert's is under that kind of management. I'll go back on days I know Amber is not there. Had to leave after waiting for 20 minutes at a table because no one came to serve us. We asked an employee for a table which he told us was self seating, so we waited by a family until they left. Plenty of employees passed by and some cleaned up some of the table, but didn't bother wiping it or picking up the beer glasses and napkins left over. We sat for about 15 minutes before flagging down an employee to ask for our server, which he wasn't sure and told us her name was Valentina, she was taking care of another table of 2 that sat right around we did and took their drink order and brought them the drinks so she returned more than twice and saw us and didn't even send anyone or acknowledge us. This is my perfect getaway spot. Not too far from Miami, located inside Key largo Gilbert's resort. Is a huge restaurant by the water, with life music on the weekends, affordable drinks, good food, private beach, watersports rental. We enjoyed visiting this place, the tiki bar, the music are amazing, it has one the most beautiful views of sunset that I've ever seen. Definitely i reccomend this place if you want to stay away from Miami and don't mind a 45 minutes ride you will find a small paradise in Key Largo. We were out on the water and decided to stop by. It's a beautiful spot and perfect for boaters to get too. I have to say, I've been here before with friends and it was pretty good- live music snd great atmosphere. This trip however I was somewhat disappointed. We had the fish dip and fish ceviche. The fish dip was nothing special and the crackers were just ok- kinda stale. The ceviche was an extremely small portion and just ok. My cousin had a drink and she liked it, I believe it was the Gilbert's boobie. I'm sure I will be back with friends and for the live music- hopefully the food will be improved. read more

My friends and I headed to Gilbert's on Friday night for some food and drinks. We sat at the bar and we were immediately greeted by the bartender. Shellbie introduced herself and her partner. She was all smiles and extremely sweet. We were unsure what we wanted to drink, but she was so helpful, asked us what we typically drank, then made suggestions based off that. She quickly returned with our drinks and they did not disappoint. We eventually ordered food, which was also good. And you can't beat the vibe at Gilbert's, always so much fun! Shellbie was terrific, she was so attentive and always so nice. She made the experience that much better. As busy as they were, she gave us the attention that every customer would expect.
