GLAM! Beautiful, unique inn walking distance to tons of shops and restaurants. The people who run the inn are warm, welcoming, and wonderful. The place is clean and well appointed. The bed was super comfortable and the linens were super soft. The only tiny complaint I have is the heat was on and even though I turned mine down to 58 and then to off my room never got cooler than 70 and I'm a super hot sleeper. I did bring this up to the front desk but there wasn't much they could do. I would kindly ask if they could consider keeping the heat down a bit at night since it wasn't terribly cold out yet. read more

(Visited 5/8-5/12). Having never been to Newport, my wife and I sought recommendations from friends that were familiar with the area. We had rather settled on the iconic Hotel Viking, when we came across the well reviewed Gilded. After reading so many positives we decided to take a chance on Gilded and that turned out to be the BEST lodging decision we had made in quite some time! First of all, as mentioned previously, the location is outstanding. Newport is a small town, however, depending on where you're staying, it can seem much larger if you're trekking forever. Gilded is right around the corner from Bellevue Avenue and a very short walk to the wharfs and all the bars and restaurants you'd possibly need. The room we stayed in, 207, was indeed generally smaller as a few have mentioned but, it's a room in an old house people! If you want a bigger, modern room, there's a Marriott in town. The cleaning staff does a remarkable job of cleaning the rooms daily and the decor is just charming enough that you'll forget that it's a bit small. After a long day of walking those beds and pillows are COMFORTABLE y'all (and my wife is picky AF when it comes to hotel mattresses and pillows) and we felt rested every morning! The breakfasts each day will make you rue the day you ever have to stomach making your own waffle or dispensing fruit loops from a container. FRESHLY made every day with REALLY good coffee (including cold brew which I much prefer). It was still cool out and we opted to have breakfast on the terrace, which is the very definition of charming. It's just a perfect way to start each day. Location and food are important facets to all of us of course, but, it's nothing without the proper staffing and Gilded delivers THAT in spades as well. Katie or Bethany greeted us daily with smiles and warm welcomes. Katie arranged breakfast as though she were hosting a breakfast party in her own home. Her attention to every detail, from bringing us towels to sit on in the event the terrace couch cushions may be damp from dew, to ensuring that only the best blueberries were in the overnight oats, it's the little things that make a demonstrable difference. Bethany had a wealth of knowledge of the area and gave honest recommendations from personal experience and not just pointing us to typical tourist traps. These girls CARE about the Gilded's reputation and it shows. If you're coming to Newport and want a quality, charming stay that you'll remember, just shut up and give them your money. I am so glad we stayed at Gilded hotel in Newport. I laugh a little at the one star review they got that starts off "I'm no princess" and then goes into everything that went wrong on their stay. Well I absolutely am a princess lol for example the lighting in the bathroom was terrible for applying makeup. I had to use my phone light to see better. But what can you do. Fortunately I am of superior abilities when it comes to makeup so I was able to overcome such obstacles. Their breakfast was also really great. Every day something different and my princess self wishes I had such a breakfast made for me every day. There's a bonus room in the front that makes for excellent insta photos too. Such a sweet gem in the middle of a bigger gem, Newport! The reception staff are wonderful- very friendly and professional. They were able to accommodate breakfast for a gluten and dairy free eater and the breakfast was delicious. Our room was perfect. It had a fire place and really comfortable sheets. The mattress is on the softer side and denting in the middle from lots of use, but still very comfortable. The house is quite old and so there was a musty scent from the bathroom after using the shower. But if you close the door, it's fine. There was a leak in our roof the dripped over over a drawer but luckily only my makeup bag got wet. We were on the second floor so it was likely from someone bathroom upstairs. They seemed aware of the issue when we told them. Gilded is located in a residential area and just a short stroll to get to the city center. You get to feel what it may be like to live in this town. We really enjoyed our stay and would recommend it to others. read more

We enjoyed our weekend at Gilded. We stayed in the Lark Suite on the 3rd floor. Our room had a sitting area and a separate bedroom. The bed was very comfortable and the room was clean. We loved the colors in the room and the wide plank floors. There were 2 tv's, a couch, a chair, and a thermostat that could be changed to your liking. Our room had a small electric fireplace that we didn't use because of the warm weather. We loved the "small plate" breakfast. We ate there 2 days and each day the menu was different and delicious. I gave the hotel a 4 star because the water pressure in the shower was a bit weak in the morning. That was our only complaint. Everything else was a great. Would definitely stay at the Gilded next time and would recommend to a friend. read more

And let me tell you about the breakfast spread-incredible!! Super delicious, gourmet, and tons of variety each day. I never care about eating at hotels, but I couldn't wait each morning to see what they were going to put out and it was all so tasty. The staff was friendly, engaging, and made us feel at home. Location-wise, you can't go wrong with Gilded. It was on a quiet street with ample parking and an easy walk to Bellevue Ave restaurants or even down to the Wharf! We stayed here over Memorial Day weekend and the hotel was clean, but the maintenance was poor, the rooms were small and the guest service had some major gaps. When we got access to the room, the maid was still in the room so we waited 30+ mins before following up with the hotel staff after they said they'd let us know when it was ready again. Turns out it was ready for awhile, but we weren't told. We also didn't get a welcome packet which had critical information such as a door code that's necessary to access your room after hours - you can imagine how critical this was when we came back to the hotel around 11:30 and couldn't get in the room. At that time we called the 24-hour line several times and there was no answer and no return call for around an hour. The AC in the room didn't work (which they did quickly address), but there were some large gaps in the wood foor in the room that were so severe they could be a safety hazard (see pics). They also don't man the front desk and aren't eager to help people once they're notified someone is at the front desk waiting. They do have a text line to field guest inquiries, but it's for a limited time of the day and the number they provide to text is also incorrect. The hotel itself isn't well maintained, the grounds are littered with trash and old debris from past projects the hotel has done. The room also did not have a closet, hairdryer nor iron/steamer - which is pretty standard for hotels. After all of this, they over-billed for the stay. We booked direct and have the booking confirmation with the should-have been price. Overall very disappointing and not to the standard of other Lark properties. read more

My husband and I booked a stay at the Gilded for our 5th Wedding Anniversary and stayed there from May 17-19th. We booked our stay through Expedia, just to have the extra protections if anything went wrong or if anything happened. Gilded was completely sold out while we were there anyway, so even if we had booked directly with them, we wouldn't have been able to get a Lark club upgrade. We booked a King Deluxe room, and stayed in Room 202. The room was pretty large and spacious, but my husband and I were just not a fan of the bed. It was a bit too soft for us, and so neither of us slept great during our stay. We also weren't expecting it to be so darn bright at 5:30 AM, but it was like it was already 10 in the morning with how much light our room got early in the morning. The next morning, we were sure to close some of the shades to help us sleep in some more. The breakfast was phenomenal, and the staff was great at pointing us to what was vegetarian so we knew we could eat it. She also modified a few of the dishes for us without meat and they were great. The breakfast here is a real highlight of this place, and would be a reason to come back. Another reason to come back? The service. The service was phenomenal, and they were incredibly helpful. We were concerned the a/c wasn't working when we arrived late in the evening, but the room cooled down eventually and it was fine. They were also kind enough to provide us with a boxed fan which helped cool down the room immensely over the second night of our stay. One area we weren't a big fan of was the darn bathroom. The bathroom was a bit small to maneuver, and it was near impossible for me and my husband to be in there at the same time. The bathroom was also pretty slanted, which I didn't notice, but apparently really bothered my husband. Also, when making the reservation, the staff told me to put notes in the reservation of anything we wanted to acknowledge, and I put that we were vegetarians (for breakfast) and that we were coming in for our anniversary. That wasn't something acknowledged at all, even with the treat left in our room - although it was something that I put in our reservation notes. If you're arriving late, they'll give you a code to get into the hotel and then tell you where your key will be. I will say, when my husband and I arrived, it was definitely a very interesting experience. My husband kept commenting that it felt kind of like a ghost house, but that was just part of Gilded's Victorian charm. read more

We had such a wonderful stay at Gilded, a quirky, colorfully, but tastefully Converted old house. It had been on my list for awhile now and while I was saving for a trip with my little girls because knew they would just love the colors and fun details, I stayed recently with my husband on a romantic getaway. It could easily be for but Hans even him, a kind of macho guy kept saying how cool and funky it was! The beds were great, pillows were perfect, and the shower was awesome. The bath products were some of my favorite and the details like iPods, bottles of water, in room coffee were a nice touch. It's a lovely stay in town close to everything but still far enough away from everything we're were able to enjoy peace and quiet and most importantly, complementary off-street parking! My husband checked us in and I didn't see anyone the entire time until I went to grab a coffee-upon leaving, and that was a staff member behind the desk so I definitely felt very safe during covid. Our room actually had a separate staircase which I'm assuming was once for help. While breakfast is included they have turned to paper bag brunch to-go or to enjoy in bed instead. It included fruit & yogurt parfaits, locally made three cheese flatbread, cinnamon buns, and OJ. Nice way to adapt. All and all a truly perfect stay...from Comfort to location to aesthetic. I will absolutely 100 percent stay here again and very much look forward to it! read more

My husband and I recently stayed here for our babymoon. The service was phenomenal! The breakfast was absolutely delish! We loved seeing all the new things every morning and the cookies were delish as well! We had a really great time in Newport and we plan on coming back soon! The Gilded is a quaint place with a huge heart and lots of charm! Everyone is so friendly and helpful! I'm a huge fan of chia pudding and overnight oats, while my husband prefers the savory dishes. Being pregnant, I don't eat any bacon/sausage/ham etc or mayonnaise so I was so happy there were plenty of choices for both of our palates and it was all absolutely delicious!!!! You could tell the chef really enjoys cooking! The parking lot is smaller, but we always got a spot. The decor is adorable, the beds are comfortable, the service friendly and helpful, and it has the best breakfast I've ever eaten in a hotel. I can't emphasize how good the food was. I had the pleasure of staying here for a weekend in June while attending a friend's wedding. Gilded is a newly opened boutique hotel that in some ways resembles a large bed & breakfast. From what I have read, it was formerly a hotel/bed & breakfast and has undergone a recent renovation transforming it into its current playful and abundantly colorful state. It's a huge departure from the stodgy Brahmin Newport that people generally envision. Located a bit off the craziness of Newport's main drag, Gilded is still under a 15 minute walk to the harbor and located right near some of the other grand hotels. On arrival, Gilded has an advantage of plentiful off-street and convenient on-street parking. Check-in was smooth, friendly, and professional, and we were given an iPad to use which came preloaded with suggestions for nearby attractions. Our room was a second floor "suite" with a king bed and small sitting area. They've tried to utilize the existing house in interesting ways, so there are a few oddities like the lack of closet but instead a clothes-hanging bar jutting out from a corner of the room, and steps leading to a bathroom that likely used to be a closet. Based on the pictures, all the rooms are unique and have their own architectural touches and flourishes, but in any event our room was well-appointed, quiet, and comfortable. The rest of the grounds include a pool table, an inside walkway with tables for eating, a beautiful outdoor courtyard with tables perfect for enjoying breakfast, and a large front room with couches. Breakfast was served every morning in the main check-in/kitchen area, which also comes with a fridge for guests to place leftovers. While overall it was a very pleasant stay, a few things weren't the best - the food was beautifully presented, with cute little jars and bottles for fruit, absolutely gorgeous looking baked goods and other cereals. But while the appearance was perfect, the taste left something to be desired. Much of the food wasn't particularly good, and while filling enough we were rarely interested in having more of anything. The other issue was with ants in our room and bathroom. They were mostly a problem in the bathroom, but we found a bunch in the bedroom as well. Overall this is a great place to stay in Newport and a place I'd be interested in visiting again. It's so nice to see a place that doesn't feel stodgy and old. Gilded really crushes it from a decor standpoint, and hopefully the other things will improve in time. read more

Firstly, we were two of their inaugural guests so we arrived with an open mind. Emily, the manager, was very helpful on the phone and open to answering any questions we had. Upon entering this whimsical and well designed B&B we were very impressed with all the details and design elements. Our check in was easy breezy. While we were only staying one night, they upgraded us to a King Deluxe suite, which was a terrific surprise. We were handed an iPad, along with our room keys and info card, which was pre-loaded with area information, suggestions and things to do. The room was heavenly, great design, cool furniture and the bed was so deliciously comfortable. The bathroom was stocked with great amenities like shampoo, soap, etc... from a company called Lather. We parked the car and left it. Gilded is located in the middle of everything, so we were able to walk to just about everything we wanted to go to. Lots of great places to eat, grab food, shops and whatnot were easily accessible from this location. We slept really well, and loved the small plate sumptuous and delicious breakfast that was served the next morning. We had fun hanging out at Gilded, played pool chilled, read and could have easily spent a few more days there. What I love about the place is that they kept the old bones of its predecessor, while offering a modern, hip updated vibe. The images on the site don't do this place justice. Clearly great design is at the forefront of the proprietors efforts, and their hotel management and staff were all awesome and lovely. read more

My fiancé and I stayed in the petite queen and it was so tiny. I should have asked to switch to a bigger room, but we didn't since we were so tired from a long drive up. The room itself was very cute and well kept. The staff were unbelievably nice and helpful as well. I really loved the breakfast every morning. It's served tapas style and everything is fresh, healthy, and delicious. I wish I could eat breakfast like that every morning. I loved the location of the Gilded as well. It's a walkable distance to all the places you'd want to explore in Newport. It's a longer walk to the mansions but really nice to walk after a filling breakfast. I'm interested to try other lark hotels and I would come back to stay here at the gilded. read more

What a lovely hotel! The Decor is absolutely amazing! This hotel stands out on the service side. The staff at check-in was wonderfully friendly which was a welcome surprise from my days at the Hilton for business travel. As we were leaving the front desk after checking in , the front desk staff told us that some warm chocolate chip cookies that they were cooking should be ready in a few minutes - and when we said that we had to leave she said that she would have some brought up to our room which she did with two glasses of milk! A great service experience! The room was very comfortable and nicely appointed the location is central to most of Newport and is very convenient! They give you purple iPads that are preloaded with all the areas dining and tourist spots which was a very nice convenience! The breakfast was amazing as well as you can see from the pictures that I uploaded it was a very unique and delicious dining experience! Overall we would highly recommend staying here! I don't even know where to start. My husband and I rarely get away, so when I booked our room at Gilded I did so because it looked beautiful and comfortable, while being close enough to town for us to walk everywhere. Everything about this stay just exceeded my expectations. Our room was ready an hour early and the woman who checked us in was so friendly and helpful. I think she may have been one of the owners? She explained everything, offered suggestions, and I was so surprised to hear that she upgraded our room. She knew we were celebrating our 9th anniversary and that I was surprising my husband. It was very, very nice of them. When I got to our room, which was beautiful by the way, I found that they had left a lovely handwritten note along with a plate of chocolate dipped strawberries. How nice is that? It was clear to me at every point that they took their guests comfort very seriously. I am very pleased to write a 5 star review based on my recent stay at Gilded. This is the 3rd Lark hotel I've stayed at (others being Hotel Portsmouth and Field Guide)- So I didn't bother reading yelp reviews before booking (I know, a yelp elite should know better). After booking I scrolled though yelp and honestly, the amount of 1-3 star reviews scared me. However, after having such an excellent stay (and from other experiences) I've come to find that some people just like to complain on vacation-- or they have a bad time on vacation and decide to nitpick the hotel. Anyway, my experience started off great with extremely friendly staff who greeted myself, mom, and sister for our 3-day-2-night stay (Mid-April). All lark hotels give an Ipad to use where they put helpful tips about the neighborhood (things to do, places to eat etc). We stayed in the queen suite on the first floor. This room holds up to 4 guests (the couch pulls out). So it was perfect for the 3 of us. The room was beautifully decorated-- very "eclectic" in a good way, which is what they are going for. The room was clean, as was the rest of the hotel. They have a billiards room too, which was cool since it wasn't so hot out it was a nice place to hang out for a game. The employee we interacted with the most was Zach, who was over the top nice, and was available to answer any questions we had, or make recommendations for food/activities. One of the things I love about lark hotels is they have that cozy B&B/inn vibe, without feeling like your weirdly in someone else's home. If you're down to do your own thing the employees just give a polite hello, and if you're the chatty type you can become fast buddies with the crew. Breakfast was good, they put out an assortment of "small plates"/tapas and you are welcome to take as much as you please. Small plates consisted of fruit salad, some sort of egg (it changed daily), muffins, scones, overnight oats, yogurt, etc. They also have almond milk for coffee, which i totally appreciate. In the afternoon they put out a sweet treat, which during our stay were salted chocolate chip cookies (these were amazing and addictive). Also, Since my experience was so opposite of the negative reviews I just want to give my opinion regarding some of the strange negative comments posted by others: you have to walk around the house to get to the front entrance: this is correct, the parking lot is in the back of the house, and you walk around the house to get to the front door. I don't see this as a negative. the house is old and "unkept" and they just add nice furnishings to try and make up for it: Maybe it's because I'm really used to New England houses, but I'm sure the original house is at least 100 years old. Being in an old New England property with modern decoration plays to a cool juxtaposition, and is actually pretty charming to me. and YES the property is very clean, and DOES look like the pictures online! complaining about them not helping with bags or not bringing you ice: as great as these employees are, unfortunately they are not mind readers. Trust me, if you ask they will help. Lack of elevator or mini-fridge: if you need these things on your vacation then you should call ahead and see if they have them. If you find yourself with sudden leftovers and no place to put them, I'm sure they have a fridge in the kitchen you can put it in. Charging your balance when you check in: some hotels do this, some don't. It just depends on their policy. I'm neutral on this, but certainty wouldn't deduct stars for it! (LOL). The benefit of this is if no one is at the front desk at check out, you can just leave your keys and bounce. This place photographs well. Period. See Trip Advisor for complaints similar to mine. I'm no princess. I'm trying to save you money. I am horrified by what we spent on this hotel. The owner should be embarrassed. If I ran a hotel management company like Lark, I wouldn't want my name associated with a run down place like this. The staff was outstanding. We learned they are hired by Lark. The individual owners of these properties are responsible for upkeep and maintenance. The lengths the staff had to go to to resolve customer concerns in their rooms was awful. Lark should appropriately reward them for the professional way they deal with everyone at this hotel. Here are the things we experienced, saw ourselves, and overheard from other guests: Our room was dingy. It was in bad need of a deep clean, especially the windows and the bathroom. The windows were nuts - most of the storm panes were broken and off their tracks, it's a wonder this isn't a safety concern for people passing below. The bed linens were clean, but we kept finding tiny red ants in the sheets. The bathroom was ridiculous. It didn't rise to the level of the Hampton Inn we stayed in days before, or really most of the hostels I've stayed in throughout the world. It was dank, the lighting was depressing, there was mold on the grout but especially in the corners, the floor of the shower was plastic and clearly in need of replacing because, as the staff assured us, it had been scrubbed and bleached as much as they could and the worn plastic just looked shadowy and dirty by now. The shower head was loose, and there was a big hole near its base in the wall. The wall outside the shower was damaged from it. The toilet rocked back and forth when you sat on it. The toilet paper holder fell off the wall our first use. The real kicker was the door: it's already a small bathroom, and the owner hadn't bothered to shave the bottom of it properly to allow it to open all the way. We had to force it open to squeeze past the sink, force it closed so we could take a shower. There was no getting away with not using the door at all... The headboard wasn't attached to the bed. In fact, part of it was attached to the floor with a screw and we couldn't figure out what happened on the other side. It wobbled and hovered at times... Then there were the other ants. We put a small take away box in a lined trash can one evening. Next morning, there were two solid lines of ants crawling up and down the trash. When we reported this while checking out, the staff told us it was a known problem that they'd tried to treat several times. We heard other guests talking about the cost of their room versus the quality. We heard another couple tell the front desk their toilet wasn't flushing properly. Someone else had either an ant or hornet problem, we couldn't make it out. Breakfasts were hit or miss. A lot of good stuff, but hardly worth the price. We loved the staff, but we did notice there were breakfast dishes in the common area when we'd arrived long past 9:00 p.m. Other parts of the place just weren't clean - rings on common area tables outside of rooms, dusty mantels, and coffee bar got kind of gross, fast. The handle on the fridge in the common area also kept falling off. It was such an unexpected disappointment. We were SO excited to stay here, really delighted by the concept. We thought long and hard about spending the $$ because we had to book three nights due to the hotel's requirement. It's no wonder why they impose this. We would have left if we thought there was even a snowball's chance in hell we'd get some of our money back, but we were familiar with some of the online arguments either the owner or a manager had gotten into with past guests who felt ripped off for different reasons. There were enough good reviews, though, that we felt comfortable booking a room. I don't trash a place like this unless it deserves it. I'll probably update this review with pictures of the bathroom at least. Just yuck. Not all Lark properties are like this - The Merchant in Salem, for instance, is a revelation. I don't get the positive reviews, the ones comparing this favorably to the best places they've stayed throughout the world. I spent a night in a convent with nuns and a curfew while traveling in Florence and had a more pleasant and comfortable experience in that spare, orderly room. We also own a place in an old, historic building in a major metropolitan area, so we know what old and well-cared for versus old and neglected look like. I don't buy that that that's part of its charm or a big part of its problems either - replace the shower stall and modern storm window panes, take care of your gross insect problem, and plane that darn door and then we can talk. Clean the baseboards. These fixes aren't even that expensive. We feel ripped off by Gilded and think the owner, through his negligence, thumbs his nose at his high paying guest read more

Such a fun, whimsical stay in Newport. I'd HIGHLY recommend The Gilded. The front desk staff are friendly, accommodating and have great advice on things to do, and where to eat and play during your stay. The rooms are spacious for an old Victorian, and the bathrooms are clean as a whistle and very modern. The only caveat was that we didn't have an AC unit in our suite, and it was a bit stuffy during our weekend in early June. We probably didn't look hard enough for the unit, or for the remote - because we were so busy looking at everything else! We had read the NY Times review of Gilded and looked at the photos on many websites including this one. That being said, sometimes photos do not describe the true experience. Here is ours. We checked in on a Monday afternoon, and we were greeted by the person working in a friendly manner, given our keys to the room and iPad. No asking did we need help with our luggage up to the third floor (there is NO elevator). We were also confused by the signage as to where to go to check in as there are multiple entrances so we parked in the back and had to walk around to the front to get in. Frustrating. Once we finally got all of our luggage up to our third floor room, we relaxed for a while, Though the rooms are well appointed, there was dust everywhere including the baseboards and all over the lamps, etc, and no super clean feeling from the room which would be expected when one is paying $400 per night. The room itself is beautiful with a nice bathroom and shower and sitting area. But NO little refrigerator, and nobody asked if they could bring us ice when we checked in, so we had to get that as well. The entire time we were here until Friday, nobody from the hotel asked if we needed anything, and then on Friday when we went to the reception area to check out, we rang the bell a few times and nobody came out. This was around 9:15am, and breakfast was set out, so there must have been SOMEBODY around. Oh, they charged my credit card on Monday when we checked in, so they got their money. We left feeling like we had been cheated. Honestly, the hotel could be top notch but they have a LONG way to go in the customer service realm, and the place needs to be spotlessly clean if they want people to pay $400 per night. Everything looks pretty in the photos and on several reviews, but we would not stay here or any other Lark Hotels again. It's too bad, because we have plans to go back to Newport, Nantucket and other places up that way. read more

I've never written a yelp review before but the Gilded warrants it! My husband and I just returned from the most wonderful Labor day weekend stay at The Gilded to celebrate our one-year wedding anniversary. It was far and away one of the best hospitality experiences we've ever had. Everything was perfect: from a unique, fun and 'quirky elegant' interior design, unparalleled hospitality from the managers, and extremely delicious breakfast spreads (and homemade cookies awaiting our return to the hotel every night), we couldn't have asked for a more enjoyable stay. The hotel is only 10 minutes from town, but off the beaten path of the tourist traps. We received an i-pad upon our arrival which we referenced throughout the weekend, as the device had pre-downloaded apps of varying local restaurants, attractions, bars, etc. which were already categorized for different purposes (i.e. dinner, brunch, rainy-day activities, boat excursions, etc). It is so clear that the managers of the Gilded do this as a labor of love, because every single part of the hotel was so thoughtfully executed. We can't wait to recommend the Gilded to everyone we know! read more

No doubt one of my best stay :) Hotel is only one month old, great location, nicely designed with great detailed and very modern. Staffs were all very helpful and super friendly. (All handsome and pretty too :D) we were handed a laptop informing places of interest, high tech and thoughtful. We slept with great comfort. There are more then enough outlets in the room. Supplies were all well prepared in the bathroom as well. Breakfast was amazing. Every item pleasing to the eyes drawing appetite. They tasted as good as they looked. Love that this hotel feels so homey. The managers and staff give a personal touch to service so I felt at home. The rooms have tv where you can login to Netflix Hulu etc. They also provided us with an iPad for recommendations on food and entertainment. Breakfast included - they serve good food! read more

My wife and I just stayed here for 2 nights and it was a wonderful experience. The staff is so friendly and accommodating. It almost felt like "southern charm" in New England. Immediately upon our arrival one of the staff members asked us what we had planned on doing and gave us great suggestions as to what to do, and not do during our stay. We got a complimentary room upgrade which was awesome! The breakfast is great and surprisingly filling, and our room was very well kept. It's tucked away nicely from the bustle on Thames street, but literally less than a 10 minute drive to anything in Newport. We would definitely go back! read more

This is the coolest hotel I've ever been to and I was very happy I found it! The staff is super sweet and generous. They give you a nice breakfast and there's a really cool pool table! We had an excellent experience at the Gilded. It's very charming yet modern, and sits at a great location walking distance both to the restaurants/shops and the north point of the Cliff Walk. The highlight of our stay at the Gilded was by far the food! Throughout the day there are different baked goodies that can found at the front desk, and let me tell you that's the best chocolate chip cookie I've ever had. I'm still thinking about it! The breakfast was totally up our alley as well. Served from 8-10 at the front desk are a selection of small plates including scones, yogurt with granola, oatmeal with berries, toast with capers and more, all perfectly portioned and artfully plated on small plates. It was delicious and unique and left you full but not stuffed. I'd highly recommend Gilded for an affordable and comfortable stay in Newport. read more

Such a cute hotel!!! I stayed for a weekend in March with my husband to celebrate my birthday. This hotel was amazing. We were so happy with our choice to stay here. They have a small parking lot in the back and additional street parking- which was great! The decor really sets the mood for checking out the mansions! The bed was really comfortable with great pillows and blankets! The pillows were super fluffy! The bathroom was really nice but a little small for my liking. The breakfast- included in the price- was so adorable. It is served tapas style on small plates. I loved the scones! It was the perfect way to start our day. Check in and out was easy and the staff were so pleasant and accommodating. They have great recommendations on what to check out and where to eat. You also get an iPad that is programmed with things to do in the area which I thought was a nice touch. If ever back in Newport, we will stay here for sure! read more

5 stars all the way! I am in love with Gilded Hotel. The hotel is located approximately a 10 minute walk to the waterfront. Situated in a quiet neighborhood away from the hustle and bustle of America's Cup Ave. Unique cozy, modern and charming hotel. I felt like I was overnighting at a friends home! Staff is attentive and personable. Every room in this hotel is unique. I loved the decor of my bedroom and my bed was so comfortable, I almost didn't want to get out of bed. Staff suggested a morning run to Goat Island. My stay was topped off with a delicious breakfast on the front porch! Can't wait to return to Gilded! Thank you Gilded for a wonderful stay! read more

I luv everything about gilded : the room decor and comfort, the dining hallway, the piping hot coffee all day with cookies, the tapas style breakfast, the lively colors - every single piece of it. Photographs well on website but this is truly an inn and not a boutique hotel.Very nice and helpful staff, a good location if you enjoy walking or biking, and interesting breakfast were pluses but not what I expected based on internet perception. The pictures online are very deceitful! I feel like we were really let down and over paid big time. We did not leave because are no refunds no matter what. I was excited thinking we were going to stay in a nice clean hotel and not have to worry about getting a good night sleep. My husband is very picky about what hotels we stay at because he wants a good hotel and not have to worry about anything. He did alot if research and thought the Guilded would be a great place. He did note a few bad reviews, but it wasn't very many. We should have listened to them. Parking is tight and it's limited if you want to park on the property. The house is very old and was not remodeled well. The windows are the old storm windows and you can even see the curtain moving from the wind. Our room was very spacious and it had a fireplace. The bathroom was a nice size but it needs a sink with counter space to put your bathroom stuff on. The shower had poor water pressure. The toilet rocked back and forth and leaked. My husband eventually went down and told the staff about it but nothing was done while we were still there. Apart from the bed being uncomfortable, the closet getting stuck every time you opened it and the a/c not working right it was okay there. I do want to make it clear that the staff is very friendly and the breakfast when it's served on time is delicious. The hotel is in need of a good heavy cleaning. The hotel is also not in close range of the shops and restaurants. Lastly there needs to be additional security. The bed room door barely latched. read more

Upon arriving at Gilded, my first thought was "ok, it looks a bit unkept", but it's fall and the leaves are starting to fall from the trees. My original thought was quickly confirmed when we got out of our car and I saw a planter thrown in the overgrown area where we parked. As I got closer to the entrance, I could see that this hotel was in major need of maintenance. It appears they have tried to throw some very colorful furniture and decor in this space and make it feel like you are so lucky to be staying at this very "hip" hotel. Wrong! If you looked closely, you'd see just how badly the whole interior and exterior are in need of a fresh coat of paint. If you happened to turn the copper faucet too far towards the hot water in the shower, you could have easily been burned as the temperature changed so drastically. The faucets on the bathroom sink were put on backwards. ( I'm wondering if they're just not too bright or if they though this was cool and hip?) Here are some simple, basic maintenance items that would help this place substantially: Secure the toilet to the floor Secure the toilet roll to the wall Add a shelf or two in the bathroom so there's some room for toiletries Repair the cracks in the plaster throughout the bathroom Repair or replace door handles that do not work Straighten both crooked TVs and hide the wires hanging below them Secure the door lock for the room to the wall Clean the dirty windows Clean the stains on the couch My husband made this reservation and was hoping it would be as nice as the photos looked. Photoshop really helped them out! It's also not nearly as close to the center of town as my husband was told when he called. We are both feel strongly about supporting small and new businesses, but felt totally ripped off by Gilded. We would not recommend this hotel at all. read more
