Her response was essentially, "I'm only selling a quarter pound." Fortunately, the gentleman slicing the lox simply listened to what I was asking for and took care of me. Thank you to him. To the woman working the register/counter today: customer service matters, especially for a longtime local business where people remember how good the place used to be. A simple request from a paying customer shouldn't turn into an argument over a couple of ounces of lox.
