So my mother-in-law lives in Boynton Beach and she keeps raving about this location called JAX bistro ! First of all, it's a very nice cozy bistro restaurant. The host was polite and we sat in the bar in a table top. They had a great happy hour $10 drinks and made a very good old-fashioned, including this awesome bacon in it wow. The bartender was very friendly and very nice and she knew her mother-in-law and she was very attentive. The appetizers were amazing. The coconut shrimp were great crispy very well done and hot of course. The mushroom flatbread was excellent too. We ordered two French dip sandwiches which looked more like humongous deli sandwiches, but with this grape bread, good quality beef wow and the apple juice was properly made. Love the cheese in it stretchy kind. Great location very friendly staff and a great menu. The menu was fast and very fair. Also has full bar and a great wine selection. Wednesday all evening is happy hour in Jax of Boynton Beach. It's in a Publix shopping center at the corner of jog Road and. Woolbright Ave. it was a very busy evening, the tables inside and outside were all taken with people waiting. We saw many of our neighbors here tonight, it was nice to catch up with so many! A group of us met for an early dinner, happy hour. Our cocktails were very strong and our appetizers were delicious. There weren't many mussels but they were big and juicy. The food and service are good. However their business practices are questionable at best! They advertise "Lobster Roll" in the menu it has MP meat to the item. Market price. That would be fine except there isn't any lobster in the lobster roll. It's sea legs! They offered me a selection of sides other than the fries that come with the meal. The only problem is as, when I go the bill there was an up charge! Like I said, the food and service is good, but you have to ask questions with whatever you order. This is a dishonest practice. Stopped in on a Tuesday night for some dinner. The restaurant is in a corner of a quiet plaza so there was plenty of parking available. Service was very polite and attentive from start to end. We were informed the restaurant is in the middle of changing the menu and that some things were not available. Alternatives were recommended in their place. We ordered the Crispy Truffle Brussels Sprouts which were good and flavorful, although the "truffle" aspect was lacking. We also ordered the mushroom flatbread after reading some good reviews about it - it was good as well. Finally, we ordered the Asian salad with grilled chicken - it was okay, a pretty basic salad. I haven't been to this place before this was my first time I know the shopping center indoor outdoor seating. The staff was extremely helpful with the waitress, the bus boy and anybody else that worked there couldn't have been more pleasant. We had two scoops of tuna fish they were good. I am with the two scoops of tuna and some lettuce and tomato and a two slices of bread we also had the flatbread mushroom no to my taste I don't like all the cheeses that were on there, but that's me. Dinner here tonight to celebrate my Dad's 90th birthday, along with my bonus mom, Mrs. K. and two of my Dad's best friends (who will read this and should know that they're awesome people!). The best option for a reservation was at 5:00 which worked out okay as we're early diners and as it turned out, the place didn't start to fill up until around 6:45 when we were done with our meal. A lovely menu with lots of great options for all, Mrs. K. went with the Rainbow Trout. A nice thin piece cooked perfectly and served with roasted potatoes and vegetables. She said it was excellent and delicious. I chose the Sesame Noodle Bowl with Shrimp which was a very decent portion of perfectly al dente noodles in a light sauce with six big shrimp. And yes, the heads and tails were removed because who wants to use their hands to pull the tails when you're having a fancy dinner? Service was friendly and attentive. Mrs. K's Arnold Palmer was mixed perfectly (I had a taste) and for dessert, we split a piece of carrot cake that was light and fluffy and a perfect finish. All entrees come with either soup or salad and are around ~$30. The portions are generous and we all loved our food. I had a huge piece of trout that was cooked to perfection. Flavorful, juicy and crispy. The potatoes and veggies were buttery and seasoned well. My mom's salmon was also very good, super thick and moist. Had a very char grill flavorful though that I thought was over powering. I saw other tables receive bread but we never got any. Staff are very friendly and seem to have fun doing their job. Happy Hour is the best around. Generous portions on happy hour or regular menu. I love a great Rubin and I found the best anywhere in south Florida. I would always order the classic made with corned beef but the pastrami version is by far the most delicious I have ever had. It's called the Rachel. The ribs fall off the bone. When my french onions soup arrived I knew something Was off just by looking at it. I did not give that uh presence of melted cheese over hot steaming soup, it was just ok. The mussels kind of grossed me out and the crostini bread I got was hard as a rock. The Flatbread was the best thing and my daughter liked her salmon but was not thrilled. She ordered a cheeseburger I had noodle bowl with ahi (a little salty but still good). My friends and I have frequented this restaurant for a very long time. We had made reservations for 4 on a Saturday night at 5:30 because we were going to see a movie at 7:15. We were seated, gave the waitress our orders...2 drinks from the bar, water for the rest of us. We gave her meal orders at that time...our food was not out until about 6:20. We asked why our order was not out at that time. They excuse was they had two large tables before us. In the meantime, we saw people seated after us who had their food on the tables. We asked again what was happening and the owner Lisa said you shouldn't come when it's so busy! Well, if that's the only day that is available for us to eat, that didn't make much sense. It's like if you order Edible Arrangements on Valentine's Day, but told not to order that because they're busy!!?? One of my friends went to speak to Lisa and I don't know exactly what was said, but my friend said she would not eat at Jax again. I tried to speak to Lisa, and I was told the same thing...she never stopped talking , so I could try to explain this to her, but she just kept jabbering away. She then told me that I shouted at her before. I told her if she wanted to hear me shout, I would shout. The excuse was unacceptable. Her husband had comped my freind's salad which was horrible and my friends wine. The young lady who was the server was fantastic and right on spot!! She remembered who ordered what and served the food perfectly. We all ordered brunch from eggs to flatbreads. This is new to me and they have everything from brunch to lunch to dinner and a full bar. It is the cutest place ever. You can sit inside or outside. A DISASTROUS EVENING in JAX BAR & BISTRO at SHOPPES AT WOOLBRIGHT We arrived at 6:30 and were seated at the only table for 4 available. They were pretty busy. We place our drinks and meal orders. The drinks came 3o minutes later. We watched a couple tell their waiter to take all their food away and not put it on the table since they waited 2 hours to be served and they had already lost their appetites. They left without eating. I and my husband had ordered sandwiches and our friends a chicken sandwich and pork chops. At 8:00 the meals came out after waiting 1 1/2 hours only to find out that one pork chop was raw, my sandwich had sauerkraut on it, which I had had asked to be put on the side because it makes the sandwich soggy, and my onion rings were ice cold which I was paying an upcharge for. Are you kidding me? An hour and a half and I must send food back? The owner's wife would not even come over to the table. The manager was very nice and asked what she could do for us but there was nothing to do but remove my meal from the bill. Now it gets interesting. We wait for the check. They are discussing how to handle taking off my meal. They have to call the owner Alan Katzner. Now a new waitress comes with our check, followed by the manager. She tells us Alan ok'd removing the meal, but he would like it if we never returned to Jax again. What a great businessman!!! This is his message to people who are at Jax every week all year round. He doesn't deserve our business. Ohhhh I forgot to tell you about the rancid smelling beef in the French dip they served last week, which was returned, and he charged me 8 dollars for the French fries they left on the table. Many of our friends have had similar experiences. I am posting this as a warning what to expect with this guy. We wont miss him! read more

Jax Bistro /aka/ Jax on Jog in west Boynton, appeals to both locals and transplanted New Yorkers. It's also popular in a variety of age groups. The restaurant's former incarnation was as Katzner's Deli (same owners.) These days Jax offers snacks, and a nice, extended Happy Hour, as well as hummus bowls, Greek salads, grilled chicken, burgers and other favorites. The servers are friendly, including two young men who seemed to be waiters in training. One did not wait to be asked where the restrooms were--he volunteered the information. The other was very stealthy with the water refills. The experienced waitress had solid sales skills in describing the appetizers. Our artichoke hummus, with carrots, cherry tomatoes, broccoli, green beans and pita, was tasty (but a tad oily.) The Greek salad with diced gyro on top, was decent but the restaurant could enhance the flavor with a vinaigrette (in addition to the cream-based dressings that are available.) The food is fresh and our meals did not take long. (Great quality paper napkins that were almost like cloth.) We saw a party of 10 in the back laughing and guessing which celebrities were portrayed in a big mural on the wall. We spotted an older lady from the neighborhood who was perfectly comfortable on her own and everything in between. A comfortable, low-pressure place in the suburbs. We will return. read more

My boyfriend, and I just stopped in for a quick lunch only to discover a hidden gem! Outstanding service and outstanding food. Alan, the owner did his rounds, which I always appreciate. Rene 1 also checked in and Ariel, our server, super sweet and efficient. Clean and friendly environment. Indoor and outdoor dining. It's super fast. They made us feel as if we were the only customers. The beer is good and so cold the ice forms on the top. Good vibes! Very generous and reasonable happy hour menu.
