Gin Rummy is usually a fun bar: fun music, good crowd, decent service. However, last night was just not a pleasant experience. After I ordered my Vodka Lychee (sickeningly sweet, by the way), the bartender handed me the Square device. I tapped my card and tapped no tip. My mistake -- I should've tipped, but I don't think my no tipping warranted what happened next. After I paid for my drink, the bartender stormed back to me and said "you know the tip isn't included?" I didn't really process what he said in the moment, so I just nodded. A few minutes later, after he made my drink, he then walked back over to me and slammed the drink on the counter and rolled his eyes. Yikes. read more

Came here for the pop up bbq event that they hosted. the bar itself is casual with a beach vibe. nice and chill atmosphere with sand in the patio seating area. They serve cocktails, beer and wine along with traditional bar food. Since we came specifically for the ribs, that's all I have to go by in terms of food. As you could see from the pictures, the ribes were phenomenal and surprisingly enough the pickle salad was absolutely delicious. overall, the staff was very friendly, helpful and we enjoyed our experience. I've been here many times for the Adam Perry Lang BBQ pop-ups on weekends. The spot has a really cute beachy vibe, but during these events the line often wraps around the building and finding a table can feel chaotic when trying to find a seat or table (people are literally trying to out do the other person) , which can be frustrating given how crowded it gets. I'm giving it 4 stars simply because with how big and packed the pop-up gets, you'd think they would make more seating available. That said, the APL BBQ is always a hit perfect every time. I haven't tried the restaurant's food yet, but I have had their drinks, and they're consistently pretty good and nicely presented. read more

Where can you still find a beer for $6 in LA? At Gin Rummy. The vibes are vibing in this tropical themed bar. We sat in the enclosed large patio area and walked through the sand to get to our seats. Yes, there is literal sand to make you feel like you stepped out of the urban jungle into a peaceful paradise. They have QR codes at every table so that you can scan your order and have it delivered to your seat. Makes it super easy for big groups so that you can have your own tab and not worry about splitting a bill. Their bar has endless options so you can find anything you'd like. They even have a few NA spirits so you can get a fun NA cocktail. While the place was pretty quite on a Saturday early evening, it was popping when we drove by on Sunday morning with a line around the block. read more

Had a great time at Gin Rummy. Celebrated my 30th birthday. I contacted them through instagram that week and they were able to reserve a few tables for us which was so nice! Great atmosphere and friendly bartenders. I was able to try a handful of their different drinks and I enjoyed most of them. The food we ordered was really good as well. I ordered the fish tacos and also had a chance to try the sweet potato fries and their other taco options. Everything came out fresh and hot. They have fun arcade games available and after a certain time, a dance floor area with dj opens up. Definitely will visit again if I am in the area! read more

This past Saturday night I was outside again lol. After leaving Hollywood, I pulled up to Gin Rummy in Marina Del Rey. Ikr, that was a lil drive haha. After discovering this bar earlier on Apple Maps or Yelp, I thought it'll be a great idea to add this spot to my bucket list. Was able to find street parking nearby which was great. Not a far walk at all from there. Upon walking up we saw people outside and heard loud music which appeared to be a lit night lol. No hassle showing our ID's before entering. Quick and easy. Security was real cool. A lot of people present which was cool and not boring. The inside appeared to be clean and well organized. Tropical vibes and decor making it feel as if you're at a beach bar. A patio and spaces to chill and socialize outside. Immediately found a spot at the bar. Bartender was able to attend to us right away. Nice dude. Real cool. Smiling and laughing the whole time while making our cocktails. They had food but we did not order. I really wanted the bbq that ppl on yelp were mentioning about but unfortunately, they did not pull up this night. Back to the drinks tho lol. I don't remember what I purchased lol but the total was like $34 and some change. My date had this fancy cute a$$ fruity cocktail in this beautiful glass lol so you know hers cost more hahaha well worth it too !!! Knowing me, I probably had another whisky, an old fashioned to be exact. Thinking back to that night and the video I recorded, it was definitely an "old fashioned" lol. Just how I love em. Drink prices were not bad, about average for Los Angeles County I would say. I expect to pay at least $13+ for a cocktail when out and depending on the location could be a lil pricey. But in the end it's all about the experience and creating new moments right ??? Will I be back ??? Yes da phugg I will lol oh and they have some arcade games so we jumped on the pinball machine which was fun for a date night out in Marina Del Rey. No complaints. As much as I miss Sunny Spot, I love what Gin Rummy has done with the space. They have great drinks, the decor is top notch, and I love the pin ball machines. I can play Led Zeppelin pinball all day! The place is always packed and seems to attract a vibrant crowd. Their tiki drinks are delicious and you can't go wrong with an order of wings or their short rib tacos. I also enjoy the selection of non alcoholic cocktails for my friends and family who still want to enjoy a drink without the booze. For us drinkers, I recommend the Tropical Itch! I love a tiki bar and Gin Rummy makes so great drinks! My go to is a painkiller-which is delish but also served in a pineapple, so really who can say no to additional tastiness that it infuses? They have their own limited food menu, but also currently have APL BBQ popping up on the weekends -and they recommitted through fall. First time here since this place was updated to Gin Rummy, the ambiance of the outside seating area is pretty cool. The inside is obnoxiously loud, but seems to be fun for big groups. It's a little annoying that you have to get up and order drinks every time, but the food can be ordered directly to your table via QR code. The service at the bar is not too bad if it's not busy, but it's really annoying that they don't let you order drinks directly to the table. The drinks are decent tasting, but nothing amazing. How have we not had a tiki bar in Venice/Marina yet?! I've watched this bar change over so many times, but I think it's finally found it's mark. For those who are sad to see Nueva go, I believe it's the same owners. They still have some of the same food - Brussel sprouts, fried cauliflower, tacos, and they've added more options. Now let's talk about the cocktails. They are delicious with generous pours. The daiquiris and margaritas are strong. My favorite so far is the guava and mango flavors. The best drink, in my opinion, is the pina colada. It comes in a pineapple glass and tastes amazing. There's QR codes at the table to order food, but you need to order drinks at the bar. They added a back bar for when it gets busy, but it can take a bit to get served. I'm hoping this process gets a bit better. This is definitely a fun date night spot or just grab some friends and put on your best tropical wear, and go have some awesome cocktails. read more

Met some friends at Gin Rummy in Venice for book club on a Thursday evening in August. I ordered the Crispy Cauliflower off of the happy hour menu as well as some mushroom tacos. The food was tasty, I just wish the tacos could have been mixed (i.e., two mushroom, one carne asada, etc.). My friends ordered a variety of drinks and enjoyed them all. The service was great and the atmosphere was calm for a Thursday. I really enjoyed sitting out on the patio. Gin Rummy is a new bar in place of the old Sunny Spot, with the same owner, and now with a tiki bar theme that comes with a DJ, pinball machines and drinks to satisfy a new wave of Gen Z'ers. The parking is limited to a small lot, street or valet during peak hours. The drink menu is just the start, and customizable after a few words with your bartender. That's the genius of a tiki bar, where you combine rums, tequilas and mezcal with the likes of tropical fruits. They come heavy handed, and so you get more bang for your buck. On Thursday to Sunday nights, this place can get packed, so plan your time and visit accordingly. I do think the food is what you might expect - simple bar bites - that meet the traditional west LA crowd needs. I am a huge rum fan and he gave extremely detailed explanations on the Rum and served me some of the best cocktails I have ever had. This place also has Haitian Rum which you don't usually find. I came here with some friends. The atmosphere felt like a retro tiki bar. Parking was all right around the area, but they have valet for $12. My friend was writing reviews for tiki drinks, so I don't remember the pricing, but I remember the drinks being strong. Service was excellent; I loved that everyone who worked there had a welcoming smile. We also ordered some appetizers Brussels sprouts, Lemon pepper wings, and coconut shrimp. All were tasty, although we agreed the wings could've been more crispy. We came in around 6:30 pm on a Saturday. There was plenty of seating, but the crowd grew by 8:30 pm. As the night progressed, guests were more dressed up. Watched the progression from flip-flops to heels. The crowd grew a bit more diverse as the night went on, which was nice to see. The bar is attached to Little Friend, a smaller venue; apparently, they have a DJ later at night. I will have to come again to check it out. BUT the best thing about this place. I had chosen the wrong purse to bring and stuffed my purse to the brim, where my wallet had fallen out at some point. I didn't notice til the end of the night, so I called Gin Rummy and left a voicemail. I received a text letting me know that they had found my wallet at 2 am and let them know I would pick it up the next day. My wallet contained all its contents, and I was so grateful it was kept safe and sound. read more

This bar is exactly what the neighborhood needed. Fun tropical vibe / decor, but not over the top or pretentious. Large open space with plenty of indoor and outdoor seating, Arcade games, and a DJ booth. They have a huge list of tropical drinks (both classics and unique ones), but also offer booze free cocktails, some cheap beers, "booze and a shot" combos, etc.- accommodating any crew that comes in. I tried the basket of fries, onion rings, and sweet potato fries, and all were solid. They came with multiple different sauces, which I sincerely appreciate. The rest of the food options were reasonably priced and seemed to be high-quality bar food. A few menu items even made it over from Nueva. I loved Nueva and was bummed to see it go, but this is a worthy replacement. I'm excited to hang here this summer. read more

Do not go to Gin Rummy! They are fully aware of the crimes that occur in their venue where customers regularly have wallets, cash and phones stolen and they do nothing about it. Just this past Saturday the bartender shared that approx 10 phones were stolen in one night. As it was occurring one of the victims asked the manager if they could please ask the DJ to say to make an announcement or put up the lights and her response was "No, I don't want to kill the vibe". Went there on a Sunday right at opening (2pm). As a Zeppelin fan, the first thing I noticed is their badass Zeppelin pinball machine - never seen anything like that before! However, the odd ordering process leaves much to be desired. The fact that there are no servers makes things difficult in a few ways - mainly if you have questions about the menu or if you need extra napkins or ketchup or something. Even though there were only a handful of people at the place, it took forever for us to order drinks with the bartender. Felt like there were only 2 people working there, one in the front and one in the kitchen. We sat outside, so unlike other reviews, the music wasn't super loud. They were playing yacht rock, which was cool. Nothing stood out as a game changer on the menu, basic sports bar fare. Their drink menu looked fun, however neither of us drink "foo-foo" drinks, so we just ended up with Red Stripes. When we linked to the food menu, we noticed a that a ton of stuff was out of stock, mostly chicken items. That was annoying b/c I had to reconsider my order a handdul of times. If this place wants to last, they will def need to train people on how ordering inventory works. We got the carne asade and shrimp tacos. B/c I didn't have anyone to ask about the ingredient details listed, I didn't realize that the shrimp tacos would be as spicy as they were. They weren't over the top and I ate them, but I made my partner switch one of his with me b/c I didn't prefer the taste. Doubt we will be back tbh. There are sooo many other places around MDR/Venice that are better. We went b/c we found parking up close when Venice looked like a total traffic jam yesterday. read more
