Turtle race
Ryan C.

Didn't get food or drinks. Service was good from what I could tell. Buying the raffle tickets for the turtle race was easy. Decorated for Saint Patrick's all year long because it is an Irish bar of course. The atmosphere for the turtle race was really great and not too crowded either

This was a super fun excursion my friend and I did on a random Thursday night - drive all the way to LA and watch turtles race! The bar itself is very old and has a lot of character. Despite there being a VERY large crowd, we were able to get the bartenders' attention whenever we needed something. We also shared a pepperoni pizza. The turtle races are hard to get a seat for unless you show up way early (they start at 9) and the races are not continuous, they have a race and then wheel spinning / other things before the next one. My friend and I didn't manage to stay for more than a few races before we decided to beat the crowds out, so we aren't sure how long they lasted or how long the actual turtle racing event last. Part of me felt a little bad for the turtles with the loud crowd noises but they seemed to be just fine and understood the racing assignment. I think we'll be back but we'll show up earlier (parking YIKES). We also got tee shirts to commemorate our night out. Overall, fun place, good looking menu of bar food and drinks too.

Drinks were pretty good but I did come here just for the turtle races... The vibes itself were pretty nice and there was live music a little bit after as well. Bartenders are pretty quick and polite. It has a very spacious back area so if you feel overwhelmed by the crowd it isn't too hard to get some space, which is nice.

Did not plan on coming here Friday night. My friend said my work is hosting a party there for march madness just come by. I came with no expectations Got to the location and there is a parking lot but you can also try street parking if you don't want to be boxed in by cars and rely on security. Security was friendly which is always a plus Pool table, dj, booth, huge patio area, a whole field in the back. Once walking in i realized I've been here yearssss ago and they had turtle races which still happen to this day. Tvs all around the building to catch the many games on, they even threw on the lakers for those of us who didn't care about college. Bartenders were pretty fast to get to us, that changed as it got later at night and more busy but nothing too bad. The dj most of Friday was edm which wasn't for me but once 10pm hit the 2000s hip hop started playing and loved that and the crowd was feeling it. Definitely a dance floor for a good amount of people. There was also a menu of food from pizza, veggie and regular sliders and all sorts of wings. My boys definitely went back for a couple plates and had good things to say. I'd definitely come back when I'm in the marina del Rey area for a drink or a burger

Halloween at Brennan's

Happy 50th Birthday to Brennan's! My friends and I all came here to celebrate Halloween and had a great time! The staff are friendly and I love that they have plenty of space to hangout both indoor and outdoor. Outdoors is also complete with heat lamps, beer pong tables, and cornhole. Overall a great experience and even when it's busy you don't feel cramped on top of everyone else like you do at most bars. They also serve pretty good food until midnight which is a big plus for late night munchies. They are also of course known for their famous turtle races. During the Halloween party, the turtle racer MC came over to talk with us about the turtles and the races. While I will need to come back and experience once for myself, just hearing him talk about them got me really excited. And even when they aren't racing, you can see the sanctuary where they hangout through a glass window. The MC also told us the turtles are only handled by the trained animal handlers and that Brennan's has invested lots of money over the past year to give them a good home. Made me feel much better about having them race.

My turtle almost won but decided to take a pitstop before crossing the finish line.

Sports bar vibes. They hold the famous turtle races every Thursday and Saturday. During the races there is a ton of shouting and cheering for which turtle you places your "bet" on. Arrive early and grab a seat or spot around the race circle and get ready to cheer for your favorite turtle. They have a ton of beer. But as a person who doesn't drink alcohol it is still a fun environment and they have sodas and redbulls. On other days they have trivia nights and pool tables and corn hole. It's a great spot for big groups. The food there is also surprisingly great. It's all bar food but at least it is good bar.

$10 Single shot Tito's with soda lime

Was looking for a place to grab a quick drink at 1:00 am. The only two bars that were open near Abbot Kinney were packed. The bars on Main Street were also jam packed with lines to get in. Decided to come down to Brennan's. Glad I did. We were immediately greeted by one of nicest security guards I encountered all evening. It wasn't at all crowded which was a relief. I ordered a single shot of Tito's with soda lime for $10. Half the price of all the other bars I visited all evening and much stronger. The bartenders were so nice. The best part is their huge outdoor patio with ample seating, large screen TVs and heat lamps. I have to give a shot out to Jason, one of the security guards. My friend lit a cigarette, which wasn't allowed on the patio. Jason approached us in the nicest possible way and directed my friend to the smoking area. After dealing with a bunch of hot headed, over-zealous security guards all evening in the various bars we had visited this evening, it was so nice to encounter someone as nice and professional as Jason is. He treated us with the utmost respect. I really appreciate this and will definitely be returning because the vibe here is so much more mellow and laid back than other bars in the area. If you wanna go somewhere for a quick, reasonably priced drink, surrounded by non over zealous security guards that show respect to patrons and not have to wait In long lines, go to Brennan's. Love it!! Apparently they also have turtle racing. Can't wait to see this.

We came for the turtle races on Thursdays! It's so sweet that they donate the proceeds to charity. I'm kinda short so I had to watch the turtle races from the TV screens, but that's ok. The bathrooms were extremely clean! I ordered a Paloma and it was ok, I don't think I would get it again but the bartender was a really nice. We also ordered some food which was decent for bar food. There was also live music which was cool!

Brennan's is my favorite bar in Los Angeles for the following reasons: 1. Large patio with plenty of seating options 2. Corn hole on above mentioned patio 3. Designated parking lot & plenty of street parking on Lincoln 4. Friendly bartenders & bouncers 5. Great variety of beverages, including an array of my current bar favorite, hard seltzers in cans 6. Nostalgic - they've been there for 50 years! 7. Takes holidays seriously and knows how to throw a solid theme party - the best place for St. Patrick's Day hands down 8. They welcome sporting leagues, such as Club Waka kickball after the games on Wednesday nights 9. They take good care of their turtles 10. They're dog friendly in the outdoor area

What time do the turtle races start?

9pm, but we recommend getting in at 730 to get a seat with a view !

We had a blast at your Wednesday night trivia. You also do Tuesdays? What time does that start?

Trivia at 7pm on Tuesdays !

Hi are you guys still a Broncos Bar?

Yes.

Hi, will y'all be open for thanksgiving 2021?

We are closed on Thanksgiving

I'm coming into town this weekend, are you guys still a Denver Broncos pub?

Yes

Is Brennan's still a Denver Bronco bar? I'm looking to watch the games this season with others who are fans as well.

Yes

Are turtle races still happening the first and third Thursday's of the month? Haven't been in years and coming in from out of town and would love to stop by tomorrow. TIA.

Yes, Turtle Races are back. First and third Thursday of the month. Event starts at 8:30 and is over by 9:45

Are you open on the 4th of July?

Nope!

Do you have to be 21 for outside seating?

Yes, Brennan's is 21 and over.

Are they dog friendly?

Yes, at least outdoors.

Anyone know what time the turtle races start on Thursdays?

According to their Instagram page, the turtle races are on the 1st and 3rd Thursdays of the month at 9pm.

Do they allow personal wine and what is the corkage fee?

We do not allow outside beverages of any kind of a corkage fee. My apologies for a late response

Are dogs allowed on the weekends?

If your dog is friendly, we are friendly! All we ask is that your pup is by you at all times and on leash!

Does Brennan's allow kids since they serve food? Interested in going to brunch on the weekend and figured it would be nice to sit on the patio.

Brennans is 21 and over at all times. Unfortunately we can not accommodate anyone under age 21 at anytime.

I am a Bronco fan married to a Redskin/Ravens fan. Will he be able to watch his game if they are on at the same time?

They do have several TVs, but you should call because I am not sure what they are going to show. I wish I could be more helpful.

Is Brennan's still a Broncos bar?

YES!! They are 🙌

Hi, do you guys allow dogs in your patio area (when there are no races)?

Hello! We do allow service animals in the patio area. Let security know you have a service animal and they'll escort you around the building to the patio.

Did you guys keep the chicken strips and fries? Those were THE BEST

Hi Chris! We do have fries available on the menu but chicken strips didn't make it back. The menu has been completely overworked and we've added several new and exciting options. Please ask for me next time you come in and I'll be happy to send over… Read more

We were daunted by the 1.5 hr drive to where we were staying and hoped that eating closer would save some time later. It did! Rasselbock is a bit hidden away but we found it with street metered parking nearby. We had arranged for a reservation but we hardly needed it. The place was mostly empty when we arrived. Music was thumping, and not German music. It was classic rock but a touch too loud. So keep that in mind. I appreciated that they had Erdinger beer. That's some of the best beer around. I chose the non alcoholic since I had a drive ahead. I was told it might not be cold enough and the server brought me the bottle to sample it by touch. I cheerfully noted Germans don't drink very cold beer and it was fine. My wife and I ordered schnitzels, she chicken and I pork. She had the Oma's potato salad - which with mustard and mayo really would not have passed muster with a real Oma like mine. She reported it was good anyway. I had spaetzle and cucumber dill salad. The kids both had a bratwurst, salad and fries. On the whole the schnitzels were good. Not entirely authentic but USA-good enough. I'd say the same for my spaetzle and salad. One kid liked the bratwurst, one didn't. I found what I tried of the sausage to be pretty good. The stone ground mustard was particularly good. Service was a little slow to start but the food came quickly and we were off. A 4.2 rounds to a flat 4. German food is hard to come by anywhere, so I welcome it. Especially with a good selection of beer. They serve multiple sizes included a liter "mass." Sounds great but I think those days are behind me. Definitely worth a try.

The large order used to have 4 large pieces of fish, now it's only 3 small pieces that are heavily breaded with some sort of chewy/gummy dough. The bread is super tiny and barely equivalent to a small slice of a tiny French baguette. The carrot cuts are also much smaller. Way to ruin a good thing. Save your money and drive out to Malibu Seafood to still get that authentic pub style fish taste. Come for a drink, but no the fish. It's not the same classic taste that used to make me drive miles for. Of course, I ate it because I was beyond starving and hate wasting food but today may forever be my last hooray as the fish is what drew me here. It was always cooked to perfection and taste, but alas those days are gone. New ownership? I don't know but pinching a penny should be worth losing folks over lesser quality food. How fun! The drinks are kinda hidden away from the monthly food truck area. I ordered margaritas ($4.00) and added Cadillac Tequilla to it for an extra $1.00 The margaritas were pretty good, as they served it like slurpees out of a machine. You can get it with salt or plain. The salt was lime-salt! Fun to lick off the cup! Domestic beers are $3, imported beers are $4, and wine is $3. Each of the drinks come in little clear plastic cups that are easy to carry around (and small enough so people don't get too drunk at the food truck events). So you ask why the 1 star rating? First let me say that the drinks are nice. The prices are reasonable. BUT, the people who are running this operation are pretty rude. There were about 10-15 people in line waiting for beverages. The lady who looked like she was coordinating the drinks (Heather) kept on pulling her friends out of the long lines and giving them free drinks - all right in front of other paying customers who were patiently waiting their turn. Additionally, the two bartenders (Bill and Will) were also giving free drinks to their friends (church goers?) in line and serving them before they served others who fairly waited their turn in line. Come'on - I totally get it that you can/will give away free drinks to friends. I would do the same. BUT, pulling friends out of line so you can give them free drinks before customers who wait their turn in line is not good. There were 4 different groups of people that were pulled out of the line to get their free drinks before us. Glad this was a church fundraiser!
