This was my husband's and my first time visiting this restaurant, and unfortunately, the service left a very poor disrespectful first impression. Makes sense why there in a shitty plaza disguising the inside as some fancy BS. When we walked in, none of the three employees AT THE FRONT greeted or acknowledged us. After standing there for a moment, I finally said, "oh Hello" in such a normal polite tone. No sass or sarcasm, hoping someone would respond. No one did, we picked up a paper menu ourselves to look prior to deciding to stay. I asked a question about one of the menu items. The employee immediately got so noticeably upset and irritated to the point of correcting me with such sassy attitude saying that they are Chinese cuisine, not Japanese. First off, go shove that up your a**. Second,I didn't even fucking know that what I was asking for was Japanese, I rarely eat this shit. So, simple mistake. Maybe learn that it's okay for people to not know. Third, the restaurant is called "Ginger Bistro," that says nothing. Mentions nothing that made the cuisine immediately obvious to us that it was fucking Chinese, dumba**. Despite the uncomfortable start, my husband suggested we give the food a chance. We ended up ASKING to be seated without anyone speaking to us because we agreed to stay out loud. We ended up getting walked and seated. When our server arrived, there was no greeting or introduction--she simply just spawned after a while of sitting and just asked what we wanted to drink. No hello, hi, my names blank how are you etc etc. just "what do you want to drink" We end up ordering the passion fruit ginger ale and the pomegranate ginger ale drink. Since it had taken a while for someone to come to our table, we asked if we could place our entire order at that time. She acknowledged us briefly and walked away. When the drinks arrived, we noticed they contained turmeric, which was never mentioned on the menu or by our server. That seems like important information, especially since some people may have allergies or dietary restrictions. Unfortunately, neither drink was to our taste. After only a couple of sips, I politely asked if we could replace them with cokes. Our server gave us a stankkkkk a** face, walked away after listening and brought the Cokes, and walked away without saying anything. The restaurant serves only bottled beverages rather than refillable fountain drinks. It was clear from both our table and the restaurant's cameras if they wanna go look, that we barely touched the original drinks before requesting replacements. Throughout the rest of our meal, our server never checked on us to see how everything was or whether we needed anything. The food itself was very good. However, the service was consistently so fucking rude. From the moment we walked in until the moment we left absolutely shitty service. Even the people sitting next to us seemed to be having an unpleasant time as well. My husband and I remained polite and respectful throughout our visit, so we were genuinely confused by the attitude we received. To make matters worse, when the bill arrived, we had been charged for all four drink, the two original drinks we only took 2 sips on. One from the bottle and the second in the glass to see if the ice can help water the flavor down. We got charged for the two Cokes we ordered afterward and the other 2. That was just fucking stupid. Go check your damn cameras, you simply don't do that. Good, understandable service you don't do that. Fuck them, fuck you I hope you see this. The overall experience, 0.5/10, and we will not be returning. There are plenty of restaurants that offer great food along with welcoming and respectful service. read more

Today Dave and I wanted dim sum. So we went to Ginger Bistro in Ft. Myers. It's located in the mall where Burlington Factory is. The outside of the strip mall looks sort of run down, but Ginger Bistro is the exception. The inside is warm and inviting and it has two dining rooms. Some tables have lazy Susan's for sharing. We were seated at the front of the room where you come in. We perused the menus and decided on regular dishes instead. Dave got the Clay pot Chicken Curry. It was loaded with veggies and chicken in a hearty sauce. I had the Chicken Sweet and Sour Soup which had veggies, tofu and chicken. It was Yummy. My main dish was an Eggplant with Garlic Sauce and I asked for no extra salt to be added. It was delicious. We both had iced teas and our server gave us fresh tea in to go cups to take with us. We had some dietary restrictions and they marked what items on the dim sum menu were safe to eat. We ordered the dim sum platter, which was a great way to try different ones. It came with 2 pieces of 4 types. We also ordered some additional dim sum to try. The favorite hands down was the seafood pancake. We would come back for that alone! By far the best Chinese sit down restaurant in Ft. Myers. Dim Sum can be ordered through the server. They don't have the carts. My favorite is Sticky Rice in Lotus Leaf. They're larger portions than the ones served at another restaurant. Flavor is delish. The rice is sweet, so I add some soy sauce to balance. Another favorite is the stuffed eggplant with shrimp. The eggplant is very tender and the shrimp is appropriately seasoned. My thumb is aching so I'm stopping here. Their other menu items take me back to Mott Street. Surprised to enter such a beautiful interior when the plaza looked pretty run down. It was hard to find parking here on a Saturday lunch hour. Once we went inside, we were seated and were impressed with the menu. As someone who is Chinese, the dishes were very authentic. We ordered a variety of dimsum items with the paper menu and pencil they provided. We tried out their egg tarts, shrimp rice paste, chicken feet, shrimp dumpling, pan fried buns, and some other items. We also ordered the BBQ Combination where you choose 2 items. We wanted to try their honey glazed roast pork and duck. The BBQ was really good! Their pork slices are sliced pretty thick but still able to eat it with one bite. Their duck was good but could use a crispier skin. We thought some of the dimsum items were really large in size and it was a bang for your buck compared to other places we have been. Service wasn't the best but it was decent. She was one of those waitresses who wasn't sweet or smiled. She did get us all that we needed though. They give you takeout menus to order from. Weird. The second thing is everything is a-la-carte. They didn't have Combination platters. We all started with Egg Rolls. They were very good. I ordered the BBQ Combo (pick 2). Tip: Don't order BBQ from a Chinese restaurant. Stick with what they're good at (Chinese food). I got Spare Ribs and Roast Duck. All cut into very small pieces. I am a lover of good dim sum, and when I found one in Florida, I had to try it. We had a short wait, and it was nice to see this so busy considering it's not in a specific "Chinatown" type area. We ordered a lot of different items. It was hit or miss, but mostly miss for me. The scallion pancake had a weird texture. I've had a lot of pancakes, and this one just felt sticky. The short ribs were a bit greasy and didn't taste as good as I had hoped. The same with the shu mai. One thing I did like was the custard buns. They had just the right amount of sweet and soft. Ginger Bistro has been a round for a bit now. I don't even think I was writing reviews the first time we went. I can tell you though, that the first time we went, it was awful. But, they had just started and they only had an idea of what they wanted to be as a restaurant. After overhearing that the owners changed (a bit ago) we decided to come back and try their food, at the behest of a friend of course. So we did. Dim Sum! A dish that originated in the Cantonese culture in China has finally made its way here and in a perfect state. These dumplings actually have 1,000 different types and after coming here, I wish I could try them all. Soup dumplings to steam buns, wheat dumplings to rice noodle rolls. No Ginger Bistro doesn't carry them all but who would? Instead, their selection is a 'top favorites' type list and I suggest you try them all. (Not all at once though) The entree Really good! They had some issues because I wanted duck but they didn't have it. They said we could wait 45 minutes BUT it wasn't worth it. So we got orange chicken and sweet and sour chicken. My wife got a steaming plate of short ribs and we loved our meals. The cons Single serve drinks. I mean, a can of sprite? Keeping costs low, I get it. If I want a refill, then I'll have to buy another one but fountain drinks have been around since forever so switch please! No duck. Though I was looking forward to it, it wasn't a big deal.
