When I scanned the reviews of potential local restaurants I wanted to visit for breakfast, I was surprised to find my name already on the Half Way listing. Then....I saw that my review was a decade ago! (That was back when it was a little farther out of town and in a smaller place. So, I came back, anew, to enjoy again. Hands down, this is a friendly establishment with a staff that is welcoming, polite, helpful...and ready to serve you. The interior is open and sports a nostalgic look with large tables accompanied by old (but sturdy) mismatched, carved-high back chairs. Yes, you can sit by yourself, but if it's busy....scoot over and invite a new friend to join you. Most tables seat 6 or 8 -- more "communal" style in a sense. Step up to the counter and order from the solid, albeit mundane, menu: eggs to order, meat side, potatoes, biscuit & toast...gravy if you like. They'll bring it to your table. Nothing fancy. My wife's eggs were scrambled, but not fluffy....rather flat like an unfilled omelet. My over easy eggs were close to perfection and oozed a rich yolk sauce on my deep fried potato cake. Yes, I would have preferred authentic hash browns or "home fries". But this worked for the occasion. Biscuits were buttery and tender. Coffee - average. Sausage patty appeared to be cut from a commercial roll - fried well and tasty. My wife's bacon was absolutely to her liking (hard to get right sometimes). But her's was spot on: very crisp, not burned. Lots of grab and go sandwiches for sale....check out other reviews and photos. Before you leave, pick up a couple of fried pies. (Ten yeara ago I had the peach - yummy. This timr we took home both apple and cherry. Slightly - not overly sweet fillings and a great afternoon treat. Dough was slightly different this visit. (You can see that in my pics...if Yelp still has them available.) As for the "Market" aspect of the name....that is a bit of a mystery - not a lot of market goods were readily visible. Oh!...be careful parking. The unmarked "street side" parking is tight and cars can come barreling down Hill Street. There is apparently more parking on the back side (towards downtown area). All-in-all the vibe was a bit like my Grandma's Country Store (1940-50s) a place where I was born and raised...friendly, comforting, congenial. And, a return for lunch is in order - the menu sounds inviting ... I hope another 10 years doesn't pass before I make it back for that. PS: very clean restrooms available too. read more

For some downhome cookin things the place. This city slicker didn't know what was coming when they served up chicken' n dumplins, collard greens and pot roast. Home cooked like maama used to make. The onion rings were fried and crispy crunchy. Couldn't stop eating. Pecan pie was the pecaniest my mouth leaped with delight! Staff was lovely and helpful. Felt like I was visiting family. Half-way often gets more hype than it deserves. The food is decent, but doesn't stand out, regardless of which meal is being served. It does offer cooked to order eggs for breakfast, and follows a weekly menu for lunch. You can also grab items from the warm section. As a bonus, Hatcher's chocolate milk is available in the cooler. Lunch is also a fine, with daily specials and a standard menu offering. Again, you aren't going to be overwhelmed, but you will be satisfied. Of the two meals, I prefer their lunch offering. All of that said (written), it is a place where plenty of old men come to discuss the happenings in the community. I suspect more than one transaction - from the sale of a tractor to the selection of a county commissioner, has occurred over a biscuit or piece of chicken at Half Way. Should you try it? Yes. I also recommend that you eat there, and enjoy the atmosphere. read more

Cheese burger was great. Fried pork chop was pretty dry. Mashed potatoes and white beans were good. Portions a bit small. The bill was a bit pricey though. With no drinks both meals together was $27!!! Could have eaten steak and baked potatoes for two at Texas Roadhouse for that price with plenty of of butter and rolls. read more

Nice little place, nice used to go to this joint when it was at the original location. You come in and order at the window, then find your place to sit. Community style tables to eat from here. I ordered two over hard fried eggs, biscuits & sausage gravy and then side of bacon. Love my breakfast meats!!! Everything came out looking great. Eggs cooked perfect, bacon was a little crispy and thin versus what I like is thick cut. But taste was on. Then what I came for - biscuits and gravy. This was spot on!!! Washed it down with a sprite since I did not see any orange juice in the cooler. Bottled drinks in two coolers to choose from or fountain drink. Got fountain drink so I had a refill atleast. Only reason no five stars is the fact you do not order from the table, it is a window order. Other than that, this place is friendly and really good breakfast food. read more

We finally got the opportunity to try this place. I personally did not care for the food. We had the chicken special and a burger with fries. Neither of us finished our food as it just didn't taste good and was very bland. The place was very quaint and the staff was so friendly. A lot of older men and outdoorsy looking workers. Often times you sit at tables with other people; I like that and enjoy the conversations. If I could change one thing about this place: fresh lemon slices for the tea. Love half way. We had a Saturday tradition to meet with family each week to go. Great people and wonderful breakfast. So yummy every time. Be sure to stop in if you pass by. There isn't much parking but we managed to find a spot just inside the entrance. Once you enter the building you go to the back left side to place your order. The staff was friendly and quick about taking people's orders. This place opened for business yesterday and it was very crowded. All the tables were full and it is just down the road from our office so we got our lunch "to go". It took awhile for the food to come up because it is made fresh. The burger was delicious and worth the wait. French fries were crinkle cut and crispy which is just how I like them. This will become one of our lunch spots. Who knows - maybe one day we will walk in and a table will be available. This is a great addition to this area for lunch choices. read more

I often frequent this establishment for a quick breakfast during work. Their biscuits are amazing! I also really love the hashbrowns. I can not say enough nice things about the staff. They always greet me with a smile and treat me like family coming home. I love the vibes and aesthetic of the old country store that the shop gives off. These are the most vile, rude, and disrespectful people I've ever encountered. I parked in their parking lot while visiting my wife and kids at Hanks a block down, as I was going to get food from here as we left. I was with my family about 25-30 min when I came back to get the food, this note was on my car. I went in and was approached by I guess the guy who wrote the note, I told him I didn't appreciate being referred to as self centered and when I tried to explain why I was in their lot, he continually interrupted me, chastising me for parking in their lot (there wasn't even a sign saying that only their customers could park there). I tried to explain and I did apologize but he kept talking over me and even the lady at the front chimed in to express their displeasure. Finally I was able to tell them I was seeing my wife and kids and was coming back to get us all lunch but i was met with more yelling, degradation, and vitriol. It wasn't even busy at the time. I wouldn't support this place or the people who work there if you paid me. excellent burger, not quite as thrilled with the potato salad but that is not even remotely an issue. I asked for rare - got pretty darn close - it's a real burger as opposed to the skinny patties so many places are serving now. good flavor - juicy.........nicely done basic cheeseburger. will definitely return - though I will probably switch to fries :) some of the other dishes looked good as well but I'm mostly a burger guy......everyone was nice and friendly.... even shared a table with our famous dancing policeman :) read more

Just last year it was all-the-way-gone market. Now, Half-Way is almost all-the-way back and it's back in style. And the lunch special still tastes like lunch in your great-grandma's kitchen! It's the same friendly family-style open seating, but more tables, more seats, and that means more smiles while you greet and eat. It's another Franklin melting pot experience where everyone and anyone drops in. You can have a basket of grabbable bites with crinkle fries or forkable mains and side items that have been stewing all morning just waiting to sit on a foam plate alongside a square of cornbread. In its heyday, the old fork-in-the-road general storefront almost had enough room to park your truck alongside then squeeze past the counter to find an open seat. The reincarnated model is an upgrade from the homey clutter of Grandpa's corner station to the warmth of great-aunt Martha's parlor after she moved into that meeting house. Y'member that? You can even put your whole-self in and turn it all about!  But, you can still just barely park your truck (some things shouldn't change...like built-in crowd control.)  The new dig even has a  proper kitchen and service counter. This place has great biscuits. Like my favorite biscuits ever. They are small and fluffy and sooo delicious. It's a hole in the wall but the owner is so sweet and Faye is a doll. Plus the food is good. The seating is grandmas table and chairs pushed together so it can be community style if it's full, otherwise you can spread out. Their sliced potatoes are served all day so they pair great with eggs in the morning or grilled cheese in the afternoon lol. (My go to is eggs, potatoes and biscuitS in the am (1 biscuit is not enough) And for lunch I grab a grilled cheese. I don't eat meat but I hear their bologna sandwich is great, was also told their pimento cheese is wonderful. They sell soda, beer and bottled beverages. Some chips and candy, and they have a hot drawer that has biscuit sandwiches ready to grab and go. Coffee ends at a certain time, and then starts the sweet tea. And they work on their time not yours! However failing to post a sign or letting the customer know there is a .50 charge for water and and a 3.5% "convenience fee added to your bill for using a credit card is a deceptive business practice and the reason we will not return. It is underhanded to sleight the customer adding on fees th only see after paying the bill and getting the receipt. They now it is dishonest It is dishonest otherwise they wouldn't hide the charges as it would most likely tarnish their image of a small-town meat and three as they nickel and dime each customer without telling them.
