This place is okay. The decor does stand out as above your average sushi place but the sushi was just ok. My wife ordered the katsu don which is different from katsu. It was flavorful and I'm not sure if any other place in the area does it this way. They also have Kirin on tap. It's probably my favorite Japanese beer so that was nice. My wife said the bathroom was one of the worst she's ever been in. I didn't go so I can't confirm. read more

I've never been to a restaurant where I planned to eat there, waited so long for the food, and ended up having to take it to go. There were only two of us. We ordered part of our food as soon as we sat down, then quickly added two rolls and sashimi when the server came back. We ended up waiting almost an hour plus for the sushi. What made it even more frustrating was watching tables of 3, 4, and even 6 people sit after us, get their food, eat, and leave before we ever got ours. Our order was not complicated at all and had no modifications -- just an avocado roll, a pink roll, a crab roll, and two pieces of tuna sashimi. By the time it still hadn't even made it to the table, we had no choice but to get it to go. To top it off, I still tipped, because I try to do the right thing--but this experience was honestly frustrating from start to finish. read more

To my knowledge, this is the first omakase experience in Richmond and it's an incredible addition to the local food scene. I feel so lucky to have snagged a seat at the six-seat bar for what turned out to be a beautifully curate experience. The chef shared that they started offering omakase in January of this year. The fish is flown in from Japan, and the flavors, textures, and presentation of each course were just perfect for the 13-course format. If this hasn't made you jump to make a reservation for the Omakase experience, best of all, it's extremely reasonably priced for the quality you receive. We were surprised with a mochi at the end, a perfect and refreshing way to close out the experience. When I looked it up online I only searched for a sushi place, and I didn't get to look at the location until I saw it in person! I actually took a picture of it walking to the capital before I realized it was Nami!! Adorable location with an even better interior. Amazing mural work outside and killer food. I ordered A tequila cranberry (double) Miso soup Sashimi sampler Salmon roe ikuri 2 piece sashimi And a 15 piece sashimi entree. I expected to pay over $120 and was billed for 68. He comped my drink and I got to watch them make the sashimi! Super efficient service for two guys despite a busy restaurant. Literally melted in my mouth, octopus was prepared correctly and was delicious! Not chewy at all. Tuna and white tuna literally melted in my mouth. Additionally, I didn't consider myself a salmon fan when comparing it to what gets shipped to Michigan. I am in love! Everything felt really clean and frankly prepared. We tried the Golden Roll--if you're a mango person, this one's a must. Sweet, light, and summery. Perfectly refreshing for a hot day. The Alaska Roll-- a solid upgrade to a classic: simple, and tasty for the less adventurous. The Yellowtail Hand Roll-- loved it, but I typically prefer thin slices vs thick strips. Spider roll-- by far my fave; not fried too hard, great balance of roe & sweet eel sauce on top. Tamago nigiri--my least favorite - could tell it was pre-packaged egg rather than cooked fresh & fluffy. Aside from the tamago, everything here is as fresh as it looks in all the pictures that, no doubt, brought you to their door. Not the biggest sushi person in the world but this place surprised me. Ended up stepping out of my comfort zone and getting a kong roll which has bananas, mango , avocado, and mango sauce. It's a combination Ive personally never heard of so I wasn't sure how Id like it but it worked out so well and it really surprised me. Dining: We started off with the classic miso soup. My partner ordered a glass of wine, and they were quite generous with the pour. For appetizers, we had the golden salmon (torched salmon topped with miso sauce) and tako su (sliced octopus with ponzu sauce). For our entree, we ordered the Love Boat, which included the chef's choice of 10 pieces of assorted sushi, 18 pieces of assorted sashimi, a bluefin tuna roll, and a rainbow roll. While everything was delicious, I wish there had been more variety in the sushi pieces, as it seemed the chef used the same pieces for both the sushi and sashimi. The service was fine and food came out relatively quickly. I love the decor of Omakase: We also had the opportunity to experience the omakase! It's amazing how you walk up the stairs and find a private dining area overlooking the entire restaurant, but still peaceful and intimate. Of course, reservations are required. They do have options for anyone not able to eat raw fish, I went for the Tokyo roll and spicy Kani roll. Both were very tasty and good meat to rice ratio. I've been coming here for years, and the decline is obvious. The customer service is consistently rude and unprofessional. It genuinely feels like customers are an inconvenience rather than valued guests. There's no warmth, no courtesy, and no accountability. The portions have also gotten noticeably smaller and stingier over time. I paid for a vegetable side and received a container almost entirely filled with onions, with two pieces of broccoli. When I called to address it, I was dismissed and told they don't offer refunds or fixes because they were busy. Being busy is not an excuse to ignore a customer or refuse to correct a mistake. The seared bites brought more richness without feeling heavy. The uni was creamy and sweet with that briny finish you hope for. Easily a standout. The caviar-topped piece looked impressive and added a fun pop of texture. It wasn't the most flavorful bite of the night, but it added to the experience. Nami serves a 12 course sushi experience with a dessert added on to the end for $85. You'll pay double for the Omikase experience in DC. This is a bargain and well worth the price. Maybe not quite as sophisticated as are DC outing but pretty darn close and one that can be done again because it's not cost prohibitive. Chef was friendly and professional and offered some unique pieces we haven't had before. It was a bit hard to understand him sometimes so it would be nice to have a printed menu we could refer to but the space was set up well upstairs and service was on point. The yellowtail had a lot of sinew so it was really unpleasantly chewy. My friend and I also ordered soda but they were extremely watered down and flat. Glad I gave Nami a second chance! On my recent visit, I ordered a rainbow roll for takeout. They kindly packaged all that I needed to picnic with this. They packed both soy sauce and chopsticks. I enjoyed my roll and feel like the quality of their fish improved from my first visit. I love the amount of ginger and wasabi they put too. This spot is a 3.5 for me. The first time I came, which was back in summer of 2022, I ordered a sushi lunch special that I wasn't a fan of. I will say the service at the time was great though and the ambience is very cute. I like their decor a lot. I'm happy the quality of their sushi is better because this spot is the easiest sushi place to walk to for me. read more

Located in the downtown area in Richmond this restaurant has free street parking during the lunch hour. My lunch mate was on crutches so it needs to be close to the front door. We have been there before so we knew the food was excellent with great service. It is a small restaurant with booths and tables. I ordered three sushi rolls, the salmon roll, the tuna roll and the shrimp roll. Comes with plenty of ginger and the spicy green wasabi. Plan to go back soon. read more
