Nothing much has changed. Glad to see it survived the massive fire years back. They take apple pay now. I guess that changed. Clearly if I can taste redi-whip I consume it myself, I just prefer when going to a more homey style place to have real ingredients. I don't usually leave bad reviews, but this experience was too ridiculous to ignore. From the moment we walked in, the service was a mess. The server treated us like we were an inconvenience just for showing up. I get that we were a large group, but we were polite, respectful, and kept to ourselves the entire time. What really crossed the line, though, was what happened next. The server went into the kitchen and started loudly complaining about us -- where we could clearly hear everything. Full-on mocking us, calling us a "stupid group," saying we "smelled," and even spraying Febreze while making more rude comments. Completely unprofessional and flat-out disrespectful. Even the cook chimed in, complaining about how much we ordered. And while we understood that a big group means more work, we were patient, kind, and even left a generous tip of over $30 to show our appreciation. Still, we were treated like we were a burden. And just when we thought it couldn't get worse, as our last two people were walking out, we heard one of them say, "Look how sh**ty the table looks -- shame on you." Mind you, we had already cleaned up after ourselves and thanked them on the way out. The food was fine, but honestly, it didn't come close to making up for the toxic atmosphere. No one wants to spend their money somewhere they're made to feel unwanted. We won't be coming back, we would not have tipped over 30$ if we would have known. Went there last Saturday for breakfast for take out. They were not busy. Ordered pancakes eggs sausage and a burrito. We waited forty five minutes. Pancakes were ok but nothing we couldn't have bought at the store in less time. The burrito was not good because they didn't heat the tortilla. We live l 15 minute walk from place. Nothing's better than some ice cream and milk shakes after a long day hiking by the Santiam River. There was quite a crowd on a Sunday afternoon, but the service wasn't too long of a wait. For three milk shakes, we waited about 15 minutes. The Peanut Butter shake and the Gingerbread shake were my favorites! During COVID-19, it makes me feel much more comfortable seeing the workers wear masks and gloves... but most of the customers were not! Be warned that many people sit and eat at the front of the store, so many did not wear masks. Some didn't even wear masks while waiting for their food! read more

We ordered our food and milkshakes, they gave us our milkshakes first and we then waited 25 mins for our food while the milkshakes melted completely... I then go to ask if they can put in a freezer, and they tell me he lost my ticket and after 30+ mins of waiting our food hasn't even been STARTED! He apologized, and retook my order! I get home (5 min drive) and they didn't put fries with my sons chicken nugget meal, and his nuggets aren't even barely chewable they're so burnt! I call to just communicate they forgot the fries after all that we already experienced and he asked if we could come back to get them! I already wasted an hour trying to get food, and the food we got looked like a 10 year old made it! The burgers aren't anything crazy (but the price is right) about and the soft serve is just ok (but the gingerbread underneath is way better), but that isn't why you are stopping here now is it. It's because it serves ok food and is that slice of road-trip Americana that everyone can love! Cute decorations, very kid friendly, and the walk up ordering window beats waiting for a table at some other places in the area with their speedy service. (I think the ordering window is only open in the summer). Nice in the summer time with their outdoor seating. I ordered a ginger bread cake and at first look I thought it was a chocolate mud pie- let me tell you: It was most certainly gingerbread. The cake was moist and spiced just right-- more over a perfect serving size for one. I felt totally guilt free finishing my meal. Absolutely delicious! Food is made fast and the customer service is one the best in this area! I called in and got there before they finished cooking my burger- they were so kind to ask me what toppings and sauces just to make sure. My family stopped in this restaurant after visiting family who were camping nearby. By "nearby" I mean drive 'til you hear banjos, then keep going. This restaurant is out in a part of the state I had never visited and only heard of in passing. There's not much going on in this town. I saw a meat market across the street. We saw a house with buffalo (bison??) on their front lawn just hanging out, which was pretty cool. The kids were hungry and I was tired of driving before I'd even started. We agreed to stop at the first open restaurant we saw, and this was it. The exterior is clean and charming. My daughter mistook it for the Gingerbread Village on the coast and asked if we were on our way to Florence. Sorry, kid, no ocean- just lots and lots of beautiful, pure Oregon rainforest. And rain. Did I mention the rain? Because it was pouring. Because, hey, it's Oregon and that's just what it does. We came in at dinnertime, around 6 pm on a weekend. I was relieved to see others in the restaurant hanging out, chatting, and eating. They seemed like locals who knew each other well. Okay, okay, so I eavesdropped a little. I'm a sucker for laughter and talk of times gone by. The walls were decorated with pictures of local events. There was a picture of the restaurant after the great windstorm of '09. (Do I capitalize Great Windstorm? I don't know that this made the Weather Channel or was officially named.) We settled the kids down and took a breather. The baby was squawking and wanted food 10 minutes ago, so I opened his baby food. Just as my husband, nephew and daughter were getting up to order, the cashier came by to let us know we needed to order at the counter. There seemed to only be two people working at the restaurant at the time of our visit- the cashier and a cook. The cashier was friendly. When it was my turn to order, I asked what she recommended. She gave several recommendations, but once I saw "bison burger" on the menu, I had to try it. I have never had a bison burger! Food was timely. Didn't take too long. My nephew was quite happy with his corndog. It was obviously pre-fab, frozen, and re-heated, but he was cool with it. Our family's fries were similar. They were fine. My daughter liked her burger well enough, as did my husband. My burger was fine. It tasted exactly like a Five Guys hamburger, so .. I don't know if bison just doesn't have a different flavor or if that actually was bison. My burger itself was tasty and well put together. The lettuce was fresh and crispy, the mayo was ice cold, all great things. All in all we were grateful to find a decent place to eat in the middle of nowhere. This isn't where one would go to find haute cuisine, and the "reviews" from "foodies" critiquing it by those standards are ridiculous. This is American road food- pure and simple. I was in Stayton, and Yelp shows this place in Stayton and welcomes kids, so I go. 1. It is in Mehama at the Junction, nine miles from Stayton. Yelp needs to get their act together. 2. The burgers were good, but not stellar. $12.50 for a bacon cheeseburger basket is a bit steep. The pineapple shake was good, and they have a wide assortment of flavors. They made a pot of coffee for me, so kudos for that. 3. In these days of High Covid, they have some inside seating, with half of the tables blocked off. There are eight patio chairs with side tables in front, which is where we sat. There are also seats and tables on the lawn in back. 4. The restrooms inside are open for use, which I consider mandatory at a burger place. If I can't wash my hands afterwards, I will walk out without ordering. 5. The day I was there was the first day they had been open since the range fire forced them to close down. They had flats of water and food out for the fire responders. Nice community support. 6. A friend of mine that used to be with the Marion County Sheriff tells me he recalls them being here for at least 60 years, so almost a landmark. He also tells me the gingerbread shortcake is phenomenal. Unfortunately, I didn't try that. Maybe next time. read more

I've loved this place for a long time. It's the perfect spot for a snack stop if you're traveling, and the perfect stop for a post-hike meal as well. We stopped here for the first time this morning and can't wait to go back. Everything was excellent- food, service, ambiance. I had the pastrami hash and it was off the charts fantastic. The homemade biscuits with homemade jam are not to be missed! And don't leave without at least one gingerbread bread cookie. I didn't try the cookie until we were driving home and wish I had bought a few of them. They had the perfect amount of spice and were baked to perfection.
