Had to try this Ramen place because it's so close to home. We ordered "to go". The restaurant is small, but decorated nice and clean. Staff was very friendly and thorough when I placed our order. She told me 15 minutes for our meal to be ready, right on time. I ordered the tonkatsu ramen. It smelled so yummy! The noodles were cooked perfectly and the broth was hot and very tasty. The chashu was good too. Overall, it's a great place for ramen, close by and comparable to other ramen places. Hubby had the miso ramen and he enjoyed it very much. He's Japanese and says that it was made very well. His broth was tasty too. We also ordered the spring rolls, they were a little soft, but good. This ramen joint is a bit of a hole in the wall because the restaurant is so small and secluded from everything else (also small parking lot). Although I gave it 3 stars, I would recommend fellow Yelpers and ramen lovers to try it out as it might satisfy others' taste buds. When I first tried it, I HAD to try the King Ramen, but I thought it was a bit saltier than what I like...I found out that the King Ramen is a combination of Miso and Tonkatsu broth, which is why it is a bit saltier than usual. I gave this place another try and went for the usual Tonkatsu and still thought it was a little bit saltier. I've told the owner my feedback and have asked for less salty, but not sure why it is still saltier than what I would prefer. I gave this place another try again, and ordered the spicy Tonkatsu ramen, but thought it was alright, nothing mind-blowing because it reminded me of "Nong Shim Cup Noodles." Several things that make this place recommend-able are the noodles, prices and portions. The staff are also friendly and try to make each customer happy, but no matter the amount of times I've been there, it just wasn't my go-to. The service can not be better and helpful every time I come. I noticed there's a complimentary sauce station this time that includes pickled radish and chili paste that that made themselves. I had the tan tan ramen and it's slightly spicy, but do take note that this one is almost broth less, more like a meaty spicy sauce over ramen. It also comes with a side of miso soup. Broth had undertones of rotting fish rather than the pleasing anchovy flavor it should. Chashu was dry and chewy with an almost jerky-like consistency. I like this ramen place! It's a little ramen shop that seems to be family run. Their ramen portions are generous and they have a little sauce bar at the counter with homemade chili, picked radish, and other seasoning. They offer vegetarian ramen which is always appreciated as I am pescatarian. You could also make it spicy with the spicy miso add on for an additional $1! My wife went to try this Ramen place last weekend. A hole in the wall but, the ramen was good and less expensive than the last two ramen places we've been too in Pasadena. Like the fact the noodles were thinner. We also like the fact there is pickled radish available at the condiment tray. The chicken karaage was really good as well as the fried pumpkin. Not too crazy about the soy marinated egg though as it was a little too salty for us. The staff was pretty attentive and friendly. When I walked in, I knew I was tricked already cuz there was only 1 customer at 12:15 PM but I decided to give them a try since I am here already. Ordered the Tonkatsu. Within the SGV (more specifically) Pasadena, there are not too many places to choose from that have good ramen. On the chance that the lot is full, there is additional parking on Colorado Blvd. WAIT TIME: Since this place is on the smaller side, it will probably be inevitable that you will have to wait for your table. I guess that is a good thing as well because the food is good. WAIT STAFF: The waitress that we had was so sweet. When my family and I had arrived, she brought out a foldable bench for us to sit! I mean, who does that? Especially when they were as busy as they were! I wished I could give extra stars for that! That same waitress was quite attentive and friendly to all of the customers and was patient with the to-go customer that had a million (and one) questions to ask. WHAT WE ORDERED: Amongst us, my family and I ordered the #1 (regular tonkotsu ramen) and #2 (spicy tonkotsu ramen). My brother ordered the miso ramen and we all shared two orders of the karage. The spicy tonkotsu was pretty good. The broth was thick and rich, which I liked. The pork was adequately sliced and the noodles had a good consistency. The only problem was that I should have ordered an extra serving of noodles! The karage, on the other hand, was good. My only qualm is that the batter/breading/seasoning was a bit off. I believe that it tasted a bit more Chinese based and less Japanese. Don't get me wrong, it was still good, but caught me a bit off-guard and the portion was good enough to share. This ramen spot is tastier than the other spots in Pasadena that I've tried, but the biggest disappointment was their chicken karaage. This ramen place was close and on point! It is tiny but not cramped and if you're lucky you won't have to wait at all! We came 30 minutes before closing and the restaurant was full except for 1 table. The service is very friendly, quick and attentive. There was only one server who we noticed was easily taking care of the entire restaurant. Our food came out very quickly, along with all of our extra requests. We tried and loved the Yakisoba with no chashu and the spicy Tonkatsu was also very tasty with the most flavorful ramen noodles! The ramen noodles here are my favorite compared to Shin-sen-gumi , Yukinoya and Ajisen. I initially loved the flavorful of curry ramen though I did expect it to come out as a soup and having it as a stew was a bit too heavy for me, I ate less than half. Super cute family-own little place. It feels really warm and welcoming, the mom and the daughter are super nice and sweet. My boyfriend and I ordered the same thing-- tonkosu ramen, he ordered the spicy one with extra meat, I ordered the regular one. When they brought the food out, he wasn't sure if extra meat was already added because he has 2 big pieces & 1 small piece but I had 2 big pieces. He asked the girl about it and the girl straight up brought 2 extra pieces, very good customer service. Parking was easy and price was very fair. The food definitely looks better than pictures, so don't be fooled by the photos.. and certainly food tastes very yummy. We tried King of Ramen for lunch. We liked it. We ordered the teriyaki chicken, curry chicken, the seaweed appetizer, tonkotsu ramen, karaage chicken, and the fried pumpkin appetizer. Additionally, my daughter ordered the hot, unsweetened matcha. To my surprise, the pumpkin appetizer was my favorite dish. It was thinly sliced with a light tempura batter. Seaweed and sesame furikake was sprinkled on top which added a nice touch. The tonkotsu ramen has a nice, rich flavor without being too intense tasting. The noodles tasted pretty standard and the meat was pretty good. The karaage was dusted in flour and deep fried. They also use the karaage in the curry which surprised me as I had never had it like that before. The teriyaki chicken was sweeter than I thought it would be and the sauce was thick. All the entrees came with miso soup except the ramen. We would definitely like to try some other things the next time we go. As far as parking, this lot can be hit or miss. Sometimes it can be hard to find parking as it is located in a mini mall with other restaurants like Dickey's and Plate 38. There is also street parking available. read more
