This place is amazing! The rubber heel on one of my Sam Edelman suede booties had come off months ago but I had continued wearing the shoes, shaving down some of plastic heel with wear. I was afraid that I had caused irreparable damage to my favorite shoes! Steve took a look and told me exactly how he could fix the shoes. He would remove the torn suede on the heel, shave down the heel a bit, and replace the suede and add new heel grip. He would do the same for the other shoe even though it was fine, in order to make sure the shoes were at the same height. He warned me that he was vey busy at the moment but could have it ready in two weeks. Two weeks was just fine for me! And for only $25 too! I left a deposit and when I picked up my shoes two weeks later I was a very happy customer! read more

Pardon me for the late review but I just had to say that he did an excellent job repairing my pair of Louboutins! I was searching all over the city and no one was really giving me a solution to fix the rip I had in my shoe. I was soooo sad... Some said they couldn't do anything because of the location of the rip. Others were just going to kind of stitch it up, and hope for the best. No, so not good enough for me. So, I stumble upon this shop after lunching with a friend and she says she goes here all the time. I showed him my shoe, and he gave me this elaborate detail of repairing my shoe. I also told him it needed to be resoled and he showed me another pair of Louboutins with a red sole added onto it! i was like "yes! wow!!" So, i got my shoe back, and you can't even tell where the rip originally was. It was near perfection. Prices were totally reasonable too. I've got three words. Awesome. Awesome. Awesome. read more

This store fixed a 135$ pair of FootJoy golfing sandals. I didn't want to Replace them but one of the plastic D-Rings for the straps broke; Rendering them useless. I looked at them and thought maybe there was a 25% chance they could be repaired by someone that knows what they're doing. Gino's has re-sole'd a couple pairs of boots for my wife over the years so I knew where to take my sandals. Gino looked at them and after a few minutes he had a plan. He explained the plan and told me 1 week and $15. I left $5 as a deposit and he gave me my claim ticket with the following Thursday marked for pick up. I called him at 11am on Thursday and he said "yup all done come on down." I'm extremely picky about repairs. A big ugly glob of glue or ugly stitching. Mismatched materials or any other issues would have detracted from my Happiness at getting my sandals back. But there was NONE OF THAT! I honestly could not have known that the sandal had been repaired without the nice man explaining to Me what he did to fix it. I can't imagine that he spent less than a half hour on the sandal and I think the quality of the work and the $ saved by not having to buy new ones definitely made Gino's Shoe Repair the "GO TO PLACE" for shoe repair in the 94030 or surrounding area. Brought my favorite classic leather coach backpack, which ripped after 25 years and countless trips, and a newer Coach burgundy colored bag with a ripped handle to Steve. Was skeptical about how the burgundy bag would turn out--stitch handles on top?!? Won't that look weird? Everything is as good as new!! He stitched up my backpack and found a perfect match for my burgundy bag handles. Had to look very closely to see the fix. Wow! read more

Gino's is the best shoe repair in the Peninsula!! I alone give the owner six stars. He is pretty frank and straightforward. He may even tell you what you don't want to hear e.g. that your favorite 20 year old shoes which you've worn since high school are beyond repair. I have been going here for more than 20 years and have neglected to write a review. My husband has also had soles replaced for his British Paul Smith ankle boots. And I have had all sorts of stuff done to my shoes, e.g. converted a Cleo silver metallic leather pump into a mary-jane style with cross strap across the vamp. Yup, I bet you didn't think that could be done, huh? Neither did I, but Steve is his name (not Gino) does wizardry. No joke. He pulls magic out of this teeny tiny little shop. He's a leather worker and I've also taken in bags and purses for repair, as well as shoes for adjuting holes, buffing and restoring the condition. Whenever I buy vintage stuff from EBay, it might need a bit of TLC and he's the guy to do it. I recently bought a pair of used factory Mephisto sandals, which snapped before I had the chance to wear them. He'll glue for strength and then stitch. He's fair, honest, will give you expert opinion and charges a fair price. Compared to other cobblers, he's done the best job by far ... oops I almost forgot that over the years my husband and I have also taken in all sorts of belts to which he's made modifications, e.g. added holes, cut and sewn the edges, etc. If there's something to be done with leather, he'll do it. I find it endearingly amusing that he's uncharacteristically opinionated about shoes and accessories that are not leather, e.g. imitation or vegan leather, looks down his nose at these, which I think reflects his artisan ethos, and oddly validates my confidence in him. read more

I would have given negative rating if I could. This guy is out of his mind and literally turning customers away - no kidding! I had no intention of using other service because this is the closest to my house. But right after I asked if he could make my broken shoe strap strong, he was bursting into a lot complaints, like you can go to Chinatown and fins someone better. Brought in a a pair of flats to have sole glued back where it separated. Upon pick up, huge brown glue glob was adhered from the toe to the top of the shoe. He did not tell me he made a mess of my shoe. I noticed once I went out of the store. I went back in to show him his shoddy workmanship. He picked and sanded to get the glue glob off, to no avail. Shoe was damaged due to his negligence. Also, whenever a new customer came in the store, during my pick up, he assisted them ahead of me. He became defensive and called my shoes "crappy, Chinese shoes". Absolutely shocking considering the Asian clientele in Millbrae. I was appalled. For such a simple repair he was incompetent, careless and prejudiced. I will never be back. read more

Owner wanted to charge $70 to add a piece of leather over my pair of orthotics. He changed my wife $20 for the same job within the year. His quality of work for her orthotics was good. But, I'm afraid he noticed my newer car parked in front and decided to charge me more$. I hate it when people try to take advantage of me, it leaves a very bitter taste. read more

If I could give Gino's 10 stars, I would. The brilliantly talented Soviet comrade running this shop is an absolute master of his craft. I brought in 5 pairs of my most damaged Italian made heels and he brought each of them back to life in a way I didn't think was even possible. Stained, scratched, and scuffed teal colored suede? No problem! Now they look brand new. I was ready to throw out a pair of metallic Louboutins I thought I had destroyed beyond repair but Steve managed to completely fix them. He mixes his own pigments for color-matching perfection and he's honest! Steve won't try to sell you anything you don't need and his prices are very reasonable. I will definitely be back. read more

When you're paying north of $350-$500 for a pair of shoes, you want someone working on them who knows his stuff and be willing to pay for that level and quality of service. Don't bother. I had been once and he did a fine job on my shoes but he is not friendly or helpful. I went in recently with two simple heel repairs and he said he couldn't do them for at least a week. That's preposterous! He said "Look around. Do you see how many shoes I have to repair?" I asked if there was any way to get them sooner and he said maybe I should find another shoe repair place that can do it quickly. Worst customer service ever! I will not be going back. I buy both expensive and inexpensive shoes. I wear them all a lot. Steve has done an excellent job of repairing, stretching, and rehealing all of my shoes, sandals and boots. It's a little hit or miss, as to when his shop is open and he only takes cash. The shop itself is a little disorganized, but overall I find him kind and attentive and will continue to bring my shoes to him. read more

Steve is a total craftsman. He reworked a pair of Taryn Rose boots to make the boot shaft fit my calf perfectly. He has restored a Furla purse to it's original finish after my water bottle leaked and created a huge water stain. His work is impeccable. He actually remade a woman's Louboutin shoes that her dog chewed up into a pair of slides that looked like originals. If you have a tough shoe problem or just want an artist who can work on purses, motorcycle jackets, etc - anything leather - he's your guy.
