They also have a good variety of drink options as well. I got the strawberry matcha as my drink which was alright - nothing too special about the matcha. For brunch I got the Breakfast platter which was really good - the eggs were super fluffy and the fries were really crispy. It was really filling as well. For dessert we decided to get the Boba Lava Souffle Pancakes - this was a nice sweet treat for the end of the meal. We got it with milk tea soft serve which went well with the dish - the pancakes were really soft. You do need wait 20 minutes for these as an FYI if you are only planning on ordering this but for us it came out at a perfect time for when we finished our main dishes. I also appreciate that the greens are always really fresh. The concept itself is really cute, although the space could use a bit of a refresh. Some of the furniture is noticeably worn, unless a more lived in look is intentionally part of the aesthetic. The one thing that has been a little off putting is the experience when walking in. Whenever my partner and I visit, someone tends to meet us almost immediately at the door and ask what we want or how they can help us. I hope the intention is to be attentive, but it can come across as questioning why we are there rather than simply welcoming us in and giving us a moment to settle. That said, I continue to come back because I genuinely enjoy the food and drinks.

Walking into the store, I was astonished by the size, there is an open foyer area with shelves of unpainted ceramic figurines in the shape of popular labubu, Sanrio and other cute characters. Apparently they hold paint nights here and you get a free scoop of gelato with a figurine purchase. They range from $15-25 per figurine and combo packages are available. Seems like a pretty good deal. There's plentiful seating for about 2 dozen people available at tables seating 2-4. On the right side of the store there's a counter with ice cream display and ordering counter. In the furthest back are a few claw machines. Getting to the ice cream :) ordering my matcha ice cream $6.00 in a mochi wrapper +$1.50 was easy with the staff at the counter, they answered a couple of my questions and let me film them wrapping the mochi. The matcha flavor was a good strength, you could taste the grassy, lightly bitter flavor of the tea. The wrapper was thin enough and chewy, it did remind me of the skin on the frozen ice cream mochis bought from the store, a little thicker, definitely more fresh. If a couple things, 1) I would say it was kinda hard eating this with a plastic spoon, the mochi was getting stiffer due to the cold. I had to really dig in with force. 2) where the mochi skin overlapped there was quite a bit of it to get through, a little dense at the end. Otherwise I enjoyed this treat!

Avoid this flavor and go with the Vietnamese Coffee. Other option was vanilla. We split a mochi ball with biscoff filling. The mochi was just all right. It hardened the longer it stayed on the ice cream. I probably wouldn't get this again but it was worth a try. The inside of the place is pretty spacious with a few claw machines in the back. They also randomly have Paint Night on Tuesdays and Wednesdays when you get to paint a figurine (labubu, hello kitty characters, and more)! Our group of four stayed for a while to chat so I went up to buy the last banana pudding. The woman working took it in the back to add more fresh banana on top and we all enjoyed splitting it. They have a solid range of desserts and pastries on display. There's $2.50 cucumber tea sandwiches or Lipton tea with lemon if you're looking to be a very cheap date. It's hard for a cafe to compete with the pink chai down the block when I'm going out of my way to come to this part of the neighborhood, but for somewhere to work, read or hang with a friend I would definitely choose First Cup, and I will be back for more banana pudding and another fun latte.

I had originally planned to get breakfast somewhere else but I'm glad I stopped here. I need coffee in the morning to feel alert and human so I got some. I ordered the French breakfast croissant and a scone from the bakery case to eat on the train later. There was a fair amount of seating available and there were outlets, which I am always looking for. Because I had my suitcase I noticed right away that the space is very narrow. They also have a time limit on seating due to space concerns which is not uncommon for NYC. I didn't run into any issues, just a consideration. My coffee and breakfast croissant were delicious. The croissant was flaky and buttery and the eggs and mushrooms complemented the flavor, and the little salad on the side added some freshness. The space was sunny and there was art on display with an explanatory plaque. The bathroom was papered with newsprint including French recipes I wanted to write down. Long Island City was a convenient place to stay when I was visiting and I wanted to explore the neighborhood more than I did, so I'm glad I found Cafe Coco before I left.
