Tried Gonzalo for the first time yesterday. The food was terrific but the service was terrible. My friend and I both ordered the buffet. The buffet looks like it has so many amazing options to choose from. It is not a self serve buffet, you order from a menu and they are supposed to bring you the food. It's nice to not have to go to a buffet bar but if you end up with a terrible server like we did, it can ruin the experience. They charge a waste surcharge, which I think is a good thing. You just need to be mindful of this when ordering or don't go with the buffet option. The buffet is probably not a wise option for picky eaters. It was dinner time and at first our server came and took our order right away. There were customers but it wasn't crowded. We each ordered a soup to start. When he came back with our soup we ordered a volcano roll, California roll and we each ordered a Crab Rangoon. The egg drop soup was good but the wonton soup had tough wontons. You also have to ask for sauces, they don't automatically bring them to you. They do give you smaller servings and we shared what we ordered. We really enjoyed the volcano roll and Crab Rangoon. I personally wouldn't order the California Roll again. Our server came back and we ordered a curry dish to split, one more order of the volcano roll and one more crab Rangoon. The server took our order but other people brought us the food. After our server took our order for the entree and additional volcano roll, he never returned to our table the rest of the time. We were their for almost two hours and the Curry we ordered never came. I'm not sure where the waiter was most of the night but he wasn't near our table at all. We had to flag him down to get the check so we could leave when we finally did see him again. Total paid, was $65 for two people for non self serve buffet: What we got: 2 waters (no refills ever offered, both of us drank all of our water) 10 pieces of volcano roll 6 pieces of crab Rangoon 5 pieces of California roll 1 egg drop soup 1 Wonton Soup I would have loved to try an actual entree because I think it would have been really good. I guess I will never know since our server never gave us the chance. I think Ginza could have easily been a favorite of mine if our server had been decent. read more

I am not sure what the fuss is about. I am a big sushi fan and this was just average at best. They offer mainly rolls, with a limit on actual sushi amounts. The joint is clean and the service is terrific. The price is also good. I just am not into rolls that much, I like the real thing. This is why 3 stars. I have been here a lot of times since 2014 and their sushi is a joke.....more rice than fish for sure. Last time (2 weeks ago, with 2 other colleagues) it was atrocious as usual. I had the thinnest pieces of fish on top the largest balls of rice I've ever had the displeasure of being served. They have the audacity to charge you for any uneaten rice..seriously??? Why not try switching it up and serving more fish than rice for a change and see what happens.? There small platters of dishes from the kitchen are hot, fresh and taste awesome. July 22, 2019 I witnessed a horrible scene at this restaurant! 2 senior citizens were waiting for a table in front of the sign "wait to be seated" when 2 men entered the restaurant & went to a server & brushed past the 2 women waiting. When the seniors confronted the rude men- the men actually admitted that they came in AFTER the ladies but blamed them, in a LOUD hostile voice, for standing in the wrong place. (Wrong) After the 2 seniors went to the manager the 1 man got up and yelled at the ladies getting in their space & I feared they were going to be physically hurt. During this public scene the manager NEVER came to the seniors' defense (even though the man ADMITTED they came in after the ladies.) It was shocking that the management did nothing to protect or do the right thing by asking the men to leave or to tell the man to GET AWAY from the seniors! I will never patronize a place where they disrespect their customers and or elderly. read more

This place is a good. But in my own opinion it's a little over priced for the quality of the sushi. I feel like I would want better quality fish. I had a wonderful experience at dinner here last night. Cindy, my waitress, was exceptional. She came by my table many times. I was ordering 1 item at a time. She was cheerful and didn't make me feel rushed despite the busyness around us. The sushi was very fresh. I had 18 pieces of sashimi. They were one third the size but that's ok. It was 24.95 for all you can eat. I could order any roll off the menu. Sashimi was limited to 6 pieces per type. The General Tsos chicken was good. It was breast meat which, to me, is the best. I don't like dark meat. It came with a nice sauce. The only thing I didn't like was the fried bananas. I can't wait to go back! read more

We walked in at 8:20 when they close at 9 the guy looks at his watch and goes "we close at 9 so you'll only have 10 minutes" when they had 40 more minutes of being opened. Came here on a Thursday night for the AUCE as a recommendation from a local (we are visiting from chicago area) and honestly it was a disappointment. We wanted fresh seafood but everything here was just ok we get better sushi back home.. For example the seaweed was stale, the sushi rolls were mediocre, there was not a lot of fish. Instead they used shrimp tempura in most of the rolls as a base (which had also been sitting). We did enjoy the sashimi (salmon, yellowtail, and tuna) the mackerel was not it chief. We ordered the Golden California roll to try, as it is the only deep fried roll on their auce menu and the tempura was not cooked all the way. We let it sit until the end of dinner but nobody said anything about it so i spoke up and all the man had to say to me was "this time we won't charge you but next time if you don't finish we will". If everything was fresh it would of been worth it but we wouldn't go back again. Perhaps ordering single items from the menu is a better option vs the all you can eat. I have literally tried every other sushi restaurant in Sarasota and I would just like to say this place tops all! I went last night for the first time since the remodeling and opening of Ginza and I was thoroughly impressed. Even though the restaurant was busy all of our orders; hibachi, sashimi, various sushi rolls, miso soup, tempura shrimp and veggies and crab Rangoon. Everything was perfect! I tried the bamboo roll, Hawaiian roll, Ginza roll, the green lantern and the soft shell crab roll. The mango and avocados were ripened to perfection and the salmon, tuna and yellow tail was fresh and delightful. You really can't beat all you can eat for 25$, especially when it's fresh and large portions. These rolls were larger than the ones Pacific Rim serves and substantially cheaper. The quality of ingredients and rolls were that of my previous favorite locations; Thai Spice and Sushi, Wild Ginger and Vizen. I usually got to Sarasota Sake house for good and reasonably priced sushi; you save 13% when you pay in cash but Ginza even takes the cake there! In all aspects Ginza was by far the best. Our waiter was friendly and humorous and the waitress that occasionally assisted him was just as pleasant. I always appreciate servers who go the extra mile to provide friendly service. Needless, to say I will definitely be returning. I have to try the Superman roll the table behind me ordered. read more

I ordered Uber Eats so I cannot comment on the service or the atmosphere. What I can comment on is the food, though. First, the good. The sushi tasted fresh and was prepared very well. We had 3 Mexican rolls and a special tuna roll. They were good, but nothing exceptionally good. The donuts were nice and fresh, too. 4/5 so far. The bad: my soup (Tom Kai) tasted burnt and bland, had what appeared to be boiled, tasteless, slimy chicken strips, and cubed vegetables that were pulverized. It didn't taste in the least bit authentic, much like the Pad Thai. Very bland, and also not spicy although requested, with the same boiled-in-appearance limp chicken. The noodles were MUSH!! I know it's easy to overcook rice noodles, but come on. Also, there was white onion chunks, which don't belong anywhere near Pad Thai. Call it what it is, Pad Crap. Thanks to Yelp I came here for lunch on Monday. For starters, it was pretty busy for a Monday at 1:30. That's always a good sign. And the all you can eat option for $12 is really a good deal. However, you are limited to what you can get, but thankfully they have some good options. I got two rolls, soup and a desert. Now drinks are not included in that price, which is standard for buffets. Service is mediocre at best. Food is also very lack luster. My rice wasn't fresh. It was kind of hard while I ate my sushi. That's not a good sign. I'm glad I didn't get sick, because it didn't seem very fresh. The rolls are also pretty sloppy. A few of mine were falling apart as I tried to pick them up. Eat at your own risk. read more
