First time we came to this restaurant and the food was fabulous and the the customer service was exceptional!

I have been a Korean cold noodles lover all my life. I have had cold noodles in countless restaurants in China and in the US and even had cold noodles once in PRK. Among all the cold noodles I have had, those made by Ginza Won are definitely in the top layer. My wife had tofu stew, and she loves it, too! We did not order BBQ but I can tell it's good from the smell from next table that ordered it. There is another thing about this restaurant that's worth mentioning, although my evaluation of this restaurant is not affected by it. On the night we visited the restaurant, my mother forgot her purse in the restaurant. It was already after 1am when we realized that the purse was missing, and we needed to catch a plane to CA early next morning. After we arrived in LA, I called the restaurant and the owner Mr. Kim helped us find the purse immediately. He then sent the purse back to us via UPS at his own cost, although we offered to compensate him the shipment fee. We are really grateful about what he did and will definitely go to his restaurant when we visit Honolulu again. read more

Have no idea what Christopher Z is talking about and with only a few reviews it's sad a place gets docked ratings on his comments. This person obviously hasn't had much experience with korean food furthermore korean restaurants. 1) food is great (have spent 6 months in Korea so I know my stuff) 2) menu isn't a work of art but I read it fine. And I don't read japanese or korean! 3) if you have eaten Korean on US mainland you will know Korean food is not fast food prices. This place is not expensive for Hawaii standards. I ate raw beef bi bim bap ,(highly recommended) one beer and unlimited good quality side dishes. Out the door for $30. 4) I was the only westerner in the place and it was packed. Says a lot for it being popular among the korean population. 5) it isn't white tablecloth. But guess what Chrisopher....no korean BBQ is. It's clean and staff are nice and attentive. Ginza Yen is like finding a diamond in the dust. Homey ambience and delicious grindz - it's a hard combination to find in the midst of the busy Waikiki setting. It's a fusion of Yakiniku and Korean BBQ. The meat portions are generous, a definite plus, the complementary salad ('Ono dressing) and the various banchan overflowed our table [the server literally brought another small table so we could fit all the dishes]. Get the pork belly and the sirloin! Also the soondubu was super authentic. A con was there was a couple cuts of meat that were really tough & hard to slice, but the waiter came to assist. Service is good: frequently refilled our water & checked in to see if we wanted to order anything else. Ambience: it's homey, a bit small but there's plenty of tables. There's like bamboo partitions between tables for a bit of privacy. It's a lot bigger on the inside than it looks from the outside. Location: hard to find so make sure to use google maps. Also bring cash for parking. We had a big group of people & everyone left extremely full. It's run by a hardworking Korean family. Support local! read more

This is the worst restaurant ever! Small, dirty, poor service, and bad food. We were tourists in Waikiki and were given a flyer. It was in back on an alley (should have walked away) in a small room. The menus were all in Japanese. We just ordered a BBQ set for two and the meat was super tough. They didn't bring 3 items in the set and were mad when we asked for them. We couldn't chew the meat so I asked for a small plate of Kimchi to eat my rice. Waited 20 minutes without any service. Owner then came and pointed to some sign on the wall in Japanese. Told me that it will cost me $4 for small plate of Kimchi. The unedible meal costed us over $50 for two people. It was like being robbed in a dirty crack shack. Crazy experience! read more

Came here when I was traveling in HI. The food was ok. But be aware they OVERCHARGED me on my credit card. Although the amount was very little ($0.94), this is still unacceptable! I gave enough tip (more than 15% after taxes) they're not going to be satisfied though.. TERRIBLE! read more

The place had all the makings of a good down home k BBQ place-- the out of the way location, smoky bar feel and J and k patrons. But it's hugely overpriced at $23 and $25 per person set menus. The problem was skimpiness on what was brought out and the begrudging attitude about supplying more sides. Maybe we're spoiled by K-town in LA but if they don't have it these guys could use some more competition. They're spoiled maybe by their overpaying Japanese tourist clientele. At 15 per person and at least two rounds of 95 cent kirins we would have been happy with the deal, but at our prices we felt ripped off. I've never felt dismissively treated by Japanese wait staff, who are usually extremely attentive. But this place was exceptional and not in a good sense in that respect as well. read more

Don't come here for Korean food ever! We have ordered one beef rib soup. The beef ribs soup did not have any beef ribs only come with a little bit beef cubes which they didn't cook well still very hard to eat. We couldn't get the beef down. Also the customer services is as poor as the beef!! I don't think they know how to treat customer in friendly way. They just yelling on customers and not helpful to solve the problems.:( read more

We stumbled on to this gem on our first night on Oahu. The sign on the corner directed us. After a couple of recommendations from our great server we ordered the Bibimbap - and Combo A - a nice assortment of beef and vegetables cooked right at the table, kindly assisted by our server! This is one of those places where you just see the place and you know it's not gonna be good. We went inside and at first, it felt like kinda like a Japanese yakiniku joint (I'm Japanese haha). But this place isn't owned by Japanese people. Service isn't great. Waiter hardly said a word, wasn't very polite. The quality of the food isn't great, and the quantity is terrible. We paid $23 for like, 8 pieces of thinly sliced meat. I won't be going back to this place ever again and I definitely wouldn't recommend it to anyone. It's a waste of money! I gave this a 1 star just 'cause I did leave the place with a full stomach (at a hefty price) and because I can't give it a lower rating haha. read more

Probably go for a 1.5 rating if I could. Menu was extremely dirty and unreadable unless you are Japanese. Plus the prices are not cheap. Would not recommend eating any of the meat seeing how it is not fresh at all. My friend got a really bad stomach ache for 2 days from eating the pork intestine. read more

I wish I could say our adventurous spirit proved successful. Had we listened to a certain previous Yelp review and believed them, we'd have saved ourselves a tripe and beef tongue horror story. Thankfully we checked out the bathroom before ordering more than drinks. How could a restroom be so filthy? We paid for the "chilled red wine" and left. Ha! This place was fun... scared my husband when i walked down a tiny alley and poked my head into their back door :) The menu is mostly in Japanese and the staff was a bit rusty in English but that never stops me and they seemed to really care and tried hard. So we were out for an adventure but decided to stick with what we know and ordered bulgogi (how do you spell that?) Food came out quick with all the fixins and then it was up to us to make it right - and we did. Prices were ok, food was ok, the place was clean and at the end I even got a compliment from my husband when he admitted that at first he was skeptical but then found it to be great :) Will come back! read more

Peter Kim does an excellent job in several aspects of his restaurant beginning with fresh ingredients, good service, quality meat for the BBQ, love his kimchi, kimchi jjigae, and most importantly and hard to get in Waikiki is his consistency to deliver this quality every night. Upon arrival to Waikiki, It was late and we happened across this little hole-in-the wall restaurant. This day (Saturay) they were having a special where everything was 50% off. This is a great deal. We tried the BBQ and did the grilling ourself. The food was prepared to perfection. We also tried the tofu soup which had a wonderful flavor. Not only is the environment extremely sketchy with a cold unwelcoming atmosphere, but the food made me kimjong ill! The BBQ was more under cooked than food served in hell's kitchen and the service was so slow that it should have cum with a free Domino's Pizza. They didn't play any music. I usually don't like to write a review about the restaurants,except there is really something make me don't feel comfortable with. First of all , the food test is just ok,I m not really picky person.we ordered a dish of rice cake,it's cost $14 plus tex about $15,and we can literally count how many pieces inside of that dish,6 pieces of rice cake and 4 pieces of fish cake and other just the veggies!!! I also ordered a cold noddle , an slice of apple ,a slice of beef,( by the way,the beef test horrible,not fresh,very hard texture)which I throw away .finally the payment is here , they automatically add the tip at the end,and it's not clearly say it for tip, it's just say 15% tax. As I know most restaurants automatically take tips from 6 or more groups of ppl.not for 3 of us!!! And the menus doesn't specify their tipping policy . When we ask why, they explain because most of the tourist no leave any tips ,so that why. May be I can understand that,but how if the tourist dose not understand the check,and they double pay for it? We are from America,we know how badly feeling is when ppl not tip your right. But the way your guys did I just don't agree with!!!
