Hangang is a great spot for Korean BBQ in town. It shares a lot with other restaurants in its plaza and is just across the street from the Ala Moana mall. They take reservations, though I have not had an issue getting seated immediately when I walked in. They have different meal sets or a la carte items, with the meal sets coming with a bunch of delicious banchan, my favorite being the sweet marinated potato. Random mention that their jowl almost tastes like chicken... Service is quick and they can help you cook your meats. I came here on a Saturday night and they were pretty busy. Luckily for us, we made a reservation so we were seated fairly quickly. We went with the Prix Fixe Menu of the 9 courses, for $70 per person. First we were given the banchans. They have A LOT and I love banchans so it was a great start to the meal. I wonder if you could get refills on the banchans like many other KBBQ spots... I didn't get the chance to find out as I was STUFFED by the end of my meal. The steamed egg also came fairly fast, they offered to serve it for us which we took up on that offer. Then we also received the kimchi pancake. Here is what I'd note, I am a bit confused on the portion sizes. As the prix fixe menu is per person, shouldn't the dishes and servings per person? Like why would the kimchi pancake be one and shared between two? As well as the egg? We then got all of the various cuts of the meats. Everything was good and quite enjoyable. We also had a choice between soup (soybean or tofu) and cold noodles (reg or spicy). We both chose the spicy cold noodles. It was very good and a refreshing side to pair with the KBBQ. We were honestly stuffed by the end of our meal and enjoyed it all. Despite my slight concern/confusion regarding the serving/pricing, I would possibly come back. In between each visit his elbow was in my wife's face while my daughter got to smell his armpit on the opposite side. Not a fan of the cold noodles, or their tofu seafood stew. Had three chunks of clams and the rest tofu. If someone recommended this to you, skip it. Not worth the wait or the trip for the expense. I've had better for less money and with better service. My friend took me there today saying this is his favorite restaurant for Naengmyeon, 냉면 or korean cold noodle. If you go during lunchtime (11a-3p), you can take advantage of their lunch specials. I had the cold noodle combo, non-spicy cold noodles with beef bulgogi. I loved both dishes, and I couldn't finish the bulgogi, so took that and leftover banchan enough to fill me up for another meal later this week. 10/10 would return again, and definitely love the lunch deals. read more

Prices are definitely a little more than some other Korean restaurants but I think it's worth it for the quality of the meat and food as well as the service and inside area. We were waited on by Justin and Tae and they were so friendly, attentive and helpful! We all ordered the $77/person prime beef 9 course meal and were barely able to finish all of it. Banchan was delicious and maybe we could've finished the meat and soups if we didn't indulge in the sides. An array of twelve banchan where pickled veggies were perfect! When my husband kindly requested for a second serving of kim chee and fishcake, male employee provided it without hesitation. Hot Stone Pot Rice remained steaming hot even with the lid off for over an hour. TteokGalbi served sizzling hot retained heat on the platter for a long time. This is one of my favorite places to eat Korean BBQ on Oahu. Its location in Niu Valley Center gives you plenty of free parking options which is always nice. The restaurant itself is also pretty big but I'd recommend making reservations since it was quite busy when we went. The prix fixe menu is what we went with and it came in at $70 a person but was well worth the price! I think this would be one of my top three Korean restaurants in Hawaii and that says a lot from someone who has lived in Korea for 3 years. I feel there is a lot of authenticity when I was eating here. The servers can speak Korean and English which is helpful. We tried twice to eat here, but the first time we made the mistake of not putting our name on the waitlist beforehand and just showing up. Glad we persisted because I loved my meal here. The beef was sooooo soft and perfectly cooked. Every bite of meat had me saying "wow". The second and third time, we got a specific server that would put beef on the grill, walk away, and forget it. So everything was overcooked/burnt. The fourth time, last night, we got the woman server that served me the first time, so I was like, yes!!! She's great. In the set b, the steak and skirt steak was so soft and just amazing. The brisket and the beef tongue was a bit overcooked and chewy, but not terrible. The soft tofu soup is a lot more tofu than soup. But it tastes good. It was very busy on a Saturday night, I joined the yelp waitlist at 7pm and we were seated around 9-9:10pm. We perused the lunch special menu offered daily from 11am-3pm. We both got the lunch special set $27.95 per person. It comes with stone pot rice, one main dish and one stew. I picked the Korean short ribs bbq with soybean paste stew. My husband chose the chicken bbq with kimchi stew. It also came with nine complimentary banchan dishes. Everything was delicious. I loved the short ribs, but they didn't give too many pieces. The soybean paste stew was fully flavored. The kimchi stew wasn't that spicy, which I liked. It came with 4 kinds of beef cuts, including premium sirloin, premium skirt steak, premium brisket and ox tongue. I really enjoyed the brisket. It was tender, juicy, so much flavor and melted in my mouth. The other steak cuts were incredibly delicious as well. Ox tongue, however, wasn't my thing. It was very chewy and was lacking flavor. The meats came witb a nice variety of banchan, but those didn't really stand out from many other banchan that I've tried in other Korean restaurants. Our combination also came with one kimchi stew and it was actually pretty tasty. I was still hungry and considered ordering a kimchi pancake, which I love so much, but the $28 price tag stopped me. The service was solid, as the waiters did their best to be there for us to help us cook the meats. The place itself is clean, with a contemporary design, with 20 some tables with grills for dining in. Good food, good place, but maybe slightly too authentic for me. Our server who was a nice lady ensured our party was comfortable and cooked the meat for us and started a genuine, pleasant conversation with us. The meat is high quality and delivered fresh daily, according to the restaurant. We could taste the freshness in the beef and various soups and banchans. Ordered our usual lunch combo, cold noodles and kalbi for me and spicy cold noodles and dakgalbi for hubby. The banchan looked good and tasted blah. All of them tasted exactly the same, not balanced, and too much vinegar. We only ate the soybean sprouts. The meats are good here, the noodles, banchan, and the broth for te cold nangmyeon are sorely lacking in flavor and the noodle portion for the nangmyeon was very small this time and I am a small eater. Also at Noon today there was hardly a crowd, unlike before, so I think with price inflation and poorly seasoned foods customers are going elsewhere. We won't be back for a spell as there are so many other good places to eat around town. The meats are high grade and fhe cuts were a little too thick, thats just my own personal preference. There were a ton of sides, and I would eat half of those. Their tofu soup and cold noodles were legit good. Not a fan of that kim chi pancake those. The pancake was salty and hard. Their steam egg taste kinda weird, theres like burnt pieces in them eggs.. anyhow genrally a good spread and but pricey.
